~Farming with Profit and Vinesweeper Guide!~
Thanks for that. * I usually take an average of 10 minutes, but people do it faster, even better :) * The whole point of the Pack Yak is that you don't need to bank, so thats where you use skills necklace and explorer's ring (run recharges). * I would have used a skills necklace, but you see, I always need to bank. (unless my herbs had died). So I prefer banking and running from there. I also plant limps which take extra 3 spaces. Thanks.. Lord Shalaj If you're taking ten minutes, you need to shave some time off. ;) I can get my herb runs done within 5 minutes easily. You should never need to make a detour on foot to hit a bank during your runs, which is probably what's making yours take so much longer. Use a wielded ring of duelling for all of your banking needs, and you should save a lot of time. This is especially important since you plant limpwurt roots, which is probably the other big factor slowing you down. Aside: it also makes the order of the patches largely irrelevant; however, I do Trollheim first because using up my fire runes frees an inventory space, it takes the most run energy to get there, and the Tool Leprechaun is placed conveniently on the shortest path to the patch (unlike the Falador, Ardougne, Catherby, or Phasmatys patches where he's off to the side). Oh, and if I were to get an unusually large harvest and run out of inventory space, it would really suck there most of all, so it's good to go with an empty pack. Oh, and Kent is right to suggest a skills necklace; it's definitely faster than Ardy teleport. Also, save your images as .png, not as .jpg. Jpegs are blurrier. Finally, take exactly 5 herb seeds (and 4 limp seeds I guess) for your runs. Just hit Withdraw-5 in your bank instead of whatever you were hitting before. This helps if you blank out on how many patches you have left to visit, so you don't accidentally hit the same patch twice. It also gives you an extra inventory space or two for that last patch when you use up the final seed. But most important is the ring of duelling. Use it.

Look, maybe it sounds different in your head, but slayer tasks are just killing monsters. And a significant portion of the time, they're not special monsters, and your only contact with the slayer master is when they say, "'Ello, what are you after then? Okay, your next assignment is to kill 145 black demons." In Soul Wars, you presumably will be slaying special kinds of monsters. It's likely that as a reward, you will get to learn more about slayer. I don't see the big problem with that.

The way you train slayer normally? :o -.- Void knights send you into battle in Pest Control. Slayer master sends you into battle in SW. Somebody needs to look after the minigame; in this case it can be a slayer master. A slayer task = killing a bunch of monsters. Is that not slayer?

The Balance Elemental
I thought that the Balance Elemental was being arrogant and assumed it already knew it was going to win, so it was mourning your death in advance to save time later.

Okay, so the game is run by a slayer master. Just like PC is run by Void Knights and BA is run by Barbarians and FoG is run by Fiara and some druid dudes. *shrug* Again, people made the same arguments regarding Vinesweeper. "It's not real farming," they said. How is it not real farming? You're working in a field to raise crops...it's more like "real" farming than regular farming is! In this case, you're still slaying slayer monsters, aren't you? So what's so wrong with it?

Exactly. The essence of the skill is retained, which is why ZMI and Smoking Kills were great updates. You are still taking tasks from Slayer Masters, you are still crafting runes in a dangerous (well, more ANNOYING than dangerous) environment. If a safe minigame was released that allowed players to gain equal or faster experience than actually training the skill itself, it would destroy the purpose of the skill, would it not? Anyway, like a player above mentioned, I wouldn't mind rewards that helped Slayers. http://news.runescape.com/c=wZvh57*pwIc/newsitem.ws?id=352 The purpose of the slayer skill is to kill monsters that require special methods or equipment, not to get tasks from slayer masters. From the description of Soul Wars: Killing slayer monsters. Sounds fine to me.

No-one trying to decipher Chaos Elemental message this time?
Yes. Good catch there.

Yeah, there's a great idea, let's take the whole basis of the skill (taking tasks from masters) and make it completely redundant because a minigame is giving double the xp per hour. Thankfully Jagex seem to be smarter than you. Look at Smoking Kills. The new rewards revolutionized the way people train slayer. I don't think anyone would reasonably be able to argue that the skill was ruined as a result. Look at the ZMI altar. It made runecrafting significantly faster to train, but the essence of the skill (no pun intended) is the same.

no more ents = no more broken axes?
if they make them all fixed then he will make money free repairs plox if they dont fix em (but make em untradable) then i rofl at him if they do become rare then "free pick plox!" ok, but why wont they turn into rares? i mean like half wine jug Do a GE search for axe handles and you should see why. ;)

My point is that players shouldn't need to choose between favorite methods and most efficient methods. I saw the J-Mod post saying that the xp will not be faster than regular training, but I disagree with it, in that Jagex should not be afraid to obsolete older methods if the older methods are less interesting. New content should add things to the game. There is little to be lost from adding worthwhile rewards to minigames, especially if Jagex continues the trend set by TGOP, FoG, and SC of requiring recharging by playing the minigame more.

no more ents = no more broken axes?
The same thing happened to axe heads when that random was deleted. Broken axes will suffer the same fate as axe heads, whatever that was...I can't remember. In any case, no, they will not become rare, discontinued items.

ApeAtoll Teaks
They're only worth chopping there if you have a greegree. Otherwise, you'll get piled by the snakes and spiders that will try their very best to kill you. If you haven't gained the ability to transform into a monkey, you're better off at Tai Bwo Wannai.
-
Lobsters or Tuna/Swordfish
Ideally neither, since they're both pretty slow experience and pretty slow cash. You'd be much better off with monkfish, which are faster experience and faster profit than either one. The time you save from the faster experience would easily outweigh any time you'd save by not doing the quest, especially since it's likely that any player who plays the game for long enough will eventually do quests at some point in their career...might as well get it over with now.

Which is more rare
This Giant Earth can't be lvl 3 combat and 70-79 Summoning... if no one else has said this already then i will say it... owned! and slayer all the way since u can buy summoning (somewhat) and pc hp and alot of people saying u can range/mage untimmed hp but u can for slayer too so no reason to bring that up 3 + 12, whatever...same thing really. Still counts as 3. This is not a debate. These are facts we're discussing. You can't argue about whether there are more untrimmed slayer capes than there are untrimmed hp capes, because all you need to do is count them.

Slippery slope Making a new minigame that gives slightly more xp/hr than ordinary slaying =/= 99 slayer instantly. As I said: "slayer is slow enough already--probably the slowest skill in the game--that making it a little faster, as Jagex did with the ZMI altar for runecrafting, would hardly detract from it as an achievement." If the new minigame gave 50k slayer xp/hr, slayer would still be a slower skill to level than agility, a cape commonly cited as well-respected. It's even probable that slayers would still eschew the new method even if it was faster, since it would be less profitable and/or slower xp in combat. The alternative to a minigame right now is to go and grind. Look at thieving: what are the best methods I could use to train at my level? I could knock out and pickpocket Menaphite thugs, or I could play Pyramid Plunder. Blackjacking would, in all likelihood, be faster, but it's far more tedious and repetitive. Luckily, Pyramid Plunder has a much more engrossing gameplay, and I don't need to sacrifice much of my training speed for a more full and varied gaming experience. The ordinary method is not obsoleted, but an alternative, different method is provided. However, it's only a true alternative because the experience rates are greater than or comparable to the regular method of training. We can see a fine example of this in the gnome cooking minigame. Why is it so rarely played? Because you don't get anything good out of it. It's not that it isn't fun. On the contrary, I find it to be a great diversion. It's that you have to give up your training in order to play it. If we got 7k cooking experience for every hard order we completed, all of a sudden it looks much more attractive, and it still doesn't even come close to obsoleting regular cooking. Like it or not, good rewards are an integral part of a good minigame. (Well, for the most part anyway...PvP minigames seem to be the exception.) You shouldn't have to be giving anything up to use a good training method. Wouldn't you prefer it if gnome cooking was a viable training option instead of being slower experience than cooking shrimp? It's not lack of resourcefulness. If you're such a good player, how are you making a profit from training herblore then? Cleaning herbs? Making Guthix Balance (unf) pots? Those are some of the most click-intensive, carpal-tunnel-inducing activities in the game. The most effective way to provide an alternative way to train is to make it on par with the other training methods. I would never go to FoG with the intent of training my magic any more than I would go to the Duel Arena and take on challengers to train my melee.

Slayer..
You will never, ever get faster ranged experience training slayer with ranged than you will training ranged normally. NEVER. It's impossible. It will never be better for money either. Slayer is NOT an efficient way to train ranged. Likewise, meleeing slayer is ALWAYS faster than traditional ranging (i.e. without chinchompas and cannons). And that's the answer to this topic right there.

Dragonkin: After the Rise of Lucien
I suppose. Anyway, I noticed this bit. Probably, Reldo was just going through his other books in that bit, passing by a different text about the first age and another one about popular lore before he found the one about Robert the Strong. And as a side note, it would be nice if we could get a lot of this information (and some of the images as well) onto the RS Wiki page for Dragonkin. It is supposed to be the ultimate repository of all Runescape knowledge, after all. ;)

Helpful summoning familiars.
Combat familiars are useful too. Last time I used even a spirit cobra at dust devils, I got nearly 7k attack xp before the pouch ran out. And they don't even last a full hour. That's pretty significant, considering this is a relatively low-level familiar. I mean this is a spirit cobra we're talking about. Not a titan, not a wolpertinger...just a plain ol' summoning familiar. Doesn't even need level 65. It gets even better as you level. Level 79 titans can hit 15s. Geyser titans have a max hit of 21 just with their regular attack, and even more with Boil. Summoning familiars can have an even greater effect on your damage output than super strength potions, regularly adding additional damage splats on your enemies for 10 or greater. In short, combat familiars are for the most part vastly underrated. Foragers are useful for profit as well. A simple fruit bat can usually add about 15k gp/hr profit to whatever you're doing. For so little effort, it really adds up. A granite lobster is even more incredible if you're fishing. Not to mention healers like the bunyip, which are incredibly useful for fighting, especially in single-combat zones when a combat familiar can't be used. The virtues of bunyips are already pretty well-known: it can eliminate the need for food completely against a great deal of foes. The macaw has been mentioned already; it's indispensable when fighting herb droppers. And the spirit graahk is the fastest way in the game to craft nature runes. The spirit kyatt is the fastest way to train summoning, as well as the fastest way to mine & bank iron (although granite is generally better). And I don't think it would take much to sell you on the pack yaks and steel titans. ;)

Bandos Vs Dragon
Bandos is better because of the small strength and prayer bonuses. Dragon has better defence, sure, but it pales in comparison to barrows if you're after defence, so there's really not a good reason to train in dragon.

SC Pts?
Actually, the hatchet is faster than normal woodcutting if your woodcutting level is too low to use a dragon axe, and the armour is worthwhile at fairly low levels where it's hard to achieve the rates you need to get for it to be less efficient. But the hammer is probably still the best. Hatchet = 18k XP = 27k XP\hour needed to be made to make it break even, woodcutting = over 70k XP\h obtainable. Using SC tools when woodcutting will HALVE your XP rates. Armor is a similar situation, in both of them SC tools will slow down your XP. You can average three tools per hour, no? So if one hatchet is 18k xp, you need to be able to get 3x that with your regular method in order for SC to be less efficient. That's easy to do at high levels, but at lower levels, especially pre-dragon axe, it's not so easy. Similar things can be said for combat, again only at lower levels. But as I said, hammers are still probably the best use of SC points.

Actually, the database would be even easier. But remember, this only works for single items. Not so much lazy idiots. Remember that trading with someone was the only way to check the prices of a group of items, outside of tedious calculator work that nobody should have to do for such a simple task. (It still is the only way, as a matter of fact, until this update is released.) It's really that hard to put the item up in the GE and add numbers? I was at the bank and this kid was sitting there for at least 5 minutes asking for a price check. He could have done it himself within that whole 5 minutes of wasting his time. Like I said, that's tedious, and nobody should have to do all that for such a simple price check.

Can any help with Herblore?
Ah, but that's farming advice, not herblore. Good advice nonetheless, but it's not necessarily worth it to plant the same herb you're using in potions, such as with irit or avantoe, which for the most part are inferior choices for planting. It doesn't technically cut costs on herblore either--it just adds a new source of income, not much different from regularly checking Miscellania or buying out Zaff's stock of battlestaves daily. (This is because the herbs you grow can easily be sold for their GE value, so if you use them up you're still using up that full gp amount one way or another, whether you buy or grow them.)
