ASP or PHP
Well, this semester of college (my fourth so far) we are learning the glory of .NET. I have two .NET classes, one for C# and the other one for ASP, both taught by huge Microsoft fanboys  I've never been a huge fan of gui builders and all that, so using visual studio has been annoying, and I keep thinking how things would be "easier" in php. I admit I don't use it a lot, and my knowledge is quite limited, but from what I've seen I like it better. So, I want to know which you prefer. Have you had bad experiences with one language/and or both? What do you prefer about each? Post away :)

North Korea Going Rogue?
Apparently NK actually fired a torpedo that sank that SK ship a few months back. http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/811193--south-korea-north-responsible-for-torpedo-attack-on-warship

"Everbody Draw Muhammad" Day
What is this [cabbage]. An expression meaning don't get mad...? Heh, yeah. Never you mind my thinly-veiled racist remarks; it's called expressions. So that means it's alright. This forum. Damn you and your stupid political correctness. If you were on the side being insulted, I'm sure you wouldn't be saying the same thing. It isn't even as much about "political correctness" as much as it is about being polite and treating people with respect.

Battery lasts no length
O.o what brand? My Asus is now 2 years old and the battery still lasts ~3 hours. Brand new it lasted ~3:30. As for OP: have you tried making it run completely out of battery? Sometimes it's all it needs. You don't usually need to keep it out of the laptop though. Same here, I've had this laptop for more than two years, still getting almost 3 hours. Toshiba Satellite Pro.

All posts.
The posts are saved in a database. Let me give you an overview of how it works. A database is a collection of tables that hold information. The table where posts are stored is called the "posts" table or something similar. We'll look at that. This "posts" table would have a few fields: Probably "poster name" "post date" and "post text". So this post I'm making right now would read something like "y_guy_4_life", "2010/05/20 13:51", "text I've posted". Ordinarily, it is easy enough to tell the database: "give me every entry in the posts table that has "hextriplet" as the "poster name". However, the posts table for this forum has over 4 million entries. It would take a huge amount of time for the server to check the database and return all of that, at the same time having to provide all types of other forum services. This is why the search feature has been limited, and probably doesn't even use a database statement of that type.

Am I the only one excited for Machete?
I remember first seeing the trailer when I watched grindhouse. It was hilarious, but I'm not so sure about how the movie's going to be.

Abortion in Canada
I have absolutely nothing against an "abortion" to remove an already dead fetus. It's if it's alive that I object.

Abortion in Canada
They don't call it a child or a baby because it isn't a child or a baby. Pro-lifers calling them children and babies are just fear mongering it up to discourage women from aborting because babies are cute and cuddly and fetuses are ugly little parasites.. Oh ok, since a fetus is ugly, it's ok to kill it off.

Need website feedback for ending project.
I'm not really a web design guy, but I like it. Seems pretty well laid out to me, not overly complicated, loads fast, etc. I'd wait for someone like Dsavi to come on :P

Your phone: is it your property?
Not a reason to kill ourselves faster!

All posts.
It's not that easy. The number 40 may well be defined so that the the function doesn't slow down the server; search features of all kinds tend to have a high memory footprint especially with a database as large as the one for this forum.

Abortion in Canada
Life isn't University. If you are never born, you don't know what you're missing. You can't feel bad or be at any disadvantage for not being alive because you're not conscious. The foetuses aren't alive, or even dead. They're just a mass of cells until they emerge from the womb as a human being. I think this is what the abortion debate boils down to - is a foetus a life? The scientific definition of life involves reproducing cells with genetic makeup. According the the scientific definition a fetus is alive.

Abortion in Canada
So because you've experienced something, it automatically gives you preferential treatment over others? I've been to college before, does this mean that when I re-apply I should be given precedent over those who have not?

Abortion in Canada
I couldn't be more disgusted hearing that a woman who has been a victim of a terrible crime commits one herself to make things better.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
It was the right thing to do. It's worse to continue being with her when you don't want to be. Then you're just lying to her about your feelings. Just the way he said it made him seem shallow, the whole "she's hotter thing". But yes, I agree that it is good to be honest at least.

What movie(s) did you last see?
Saw Babies last night which was ok. Iron Man 2 was ridiculous, it's like they took everything ridiculous from the first one and magnified it by 10.

Abortion in Canada
Although I'm a staunch pro-lifer, I think it's a bit unreasonable to claim that ALL women regret their abortions. Some do, some don't.

Abortion in Canada
I'm sure you can google it, and the overall trend should be fairly obvious. No, it's morally right that a women should have to give birth to an innocent child. If I had my way, it would be mandatory for a man, regardless of circumstance of conception, to pay child support to any woman who had his child. Hair isn't a person, and never will be. A fetus has that potential, and barring any vacuums ripping it apart, probably will be. I'm not a practicing member of any religion.
