  1. are you asking for the total number of points that can exhibit this or the most points in a single trip? I believe there are an infinite amount of points that could have this occur, the hiker could remain at the top of the mountain till one minute before the time of a point then run down to it since we arent putting a limit on his speed. So any point on the trail excluding the beginning and end point could be a point of occurence and since there are an infinite amount of points between any two different points the answer is infinity As for how many such points in a single run... hmm, I would have to say a single point, since the return distance is decreasing while the going up line is increasing they could meet anywhere but once they connect they will have gone past each other.
  2. No, thats why they need to maintain or create medical exeptions for severe medical problems.
  3. well something can be unlucky, its just that there is no empirical thing called luck if your playing a game with dice and keep getting terrible roles it is unlucky in the the sense you are getting results that are unfavorable. You arent cursed by bad luck though, its just a coincidence if a bunch of unlikely (bad) things happen.
  4. wtf is a helium atom quark? I mean you could make an argument two helium atoms being forced to fuse could set off a chain reaction, but since it requires a set up or star to cause that fusion Id say something else would be the cause of death.
  5. I think throwing up would remove a piece of hair from your uvula I think we have accepted that anti matter on anything of macroscopic mass can be fatal. I doubt one helium atom can be fatal.
  6. [hide=] [/hide] infinity has properties like a number and properties unlike a number my favorite example is f(x)=1/x^2 if x=1 then f(x)=1; if x=2 then f(x)=.5; if x=10 then f(x)=.01; if x=1000 then f(x)=.000001 since this pattern continues the limit as x approaches infinity f(x)=0 therefore f(infinity)=1/(infinity)^2=0 we cant reach the number infinity, but if you were to graph 1/x^2 at increasingly large numbers you would eventually get so close to 0 you would be there. The same principle that if you get half way to a wall, you will eventually be immeasurably close to the wall and we have to say you have reached it.
  7. Found it, its called a dagger axe also found out it doesnt have a stabbing blade my bad :(
  8. well it was similair to a halbert but much less bulky, the blade was based on impaling through lunge or vertical drop as opposed to a halberts spear or smash method. The main advantage is that the weapon is much lighter and not as unwieldy as a halberts heavy business end.
  9. [hide=] I thought .999999~... = 1? 1/3 = .333~ 2/3 = .666~ 1/3 + 2/3 = 3/3 BUT .333~ + .666~ = .999~ -------------------------------------------- Also 1/9 = .111~ 1/9 * 9 = 9/9 .111~ * 9 = .999~ oh and That's just rounding. 1/3 ? .333~ technically. 1/3 = .3333~..... all the way to infinity. But because it's infinite and all, the difference between the two is so small, that it's considered negligible and therefor considered the same. for example the equation: lim (8x³-9x²+17)/( 2x³-5x+12) ?? technically ='s nothing as ?/? is undefined. But that is obviously not the answer. You see, if you plug in very very large number close to infinity, such as 100000000 for x, you would get a number like 3.878787878 or something similar. and if you plug in a number such as 10000000000000000000000 you would get something like 3.999999999888. So if you were to keep going, the number you would get would start to get closer and closer to 4, which is the answer, because although the number was not exact, it's so close that it is indistinguishable. [/hide] this is why I love calculus
  10. I would love to see an rpg hit a swarm of live zombies (if only) I cant think of the formal name of the weapon, but their was a chinese spear that had a tip that was functioned as both a pike and an axe. Blade was "L" shaped wondering if that could be put to use.
  11. *Brings out super cannon + vacuum* a cell on the outer wall of my stomache then
  12. just watched that video, I get it now I was thinking along the lines of you making a whole new choice of door at each oppurtunity instead of swap or non swap, thats pretty interesting. I guess my error was not considering this was a very specific situation, not a standard probability problem.
  13. that is 50/50 odds 3 goats 3 cars as the final outcome
  14. a single cell on the tip of the little toe of your right foot could not kill you
  15. consider the door thing like this I have a 3 sided(magic) coin and ask you to predict which one of the sides will show up, lets call them a, b, and c you choose side a, I then alter the coin so that only sides a and b are left initially you had a 1/3 chance of being correct, after I remove a side you have a 1/2 chance regardless of which of the remaining sides you choose.
  16. Yes. You have a 1/3 chance of getting it in the 1st place, and a 1/2 after the 1st door. However, once he asks, that changes everything (aka variable oods). If you say yes, ill change, you'll have a 66% chance of winnning. Cookies to who figure outs what thats from :XD: you arent improving your odds by changing doors at first pick each choice has 33% chance of being "correct" if one door is revealed then each of the remaining two doors has 50% chance of being correct. The door you selected is equal to the door you could change to so it isnt an improvement.
  17. But if your grandfather died you would of never been born to time travel. Here is the thing. If time travel was possible then going back in time would remove you from the reality you had been in, killing your grandfather would not make you cease to exist because there is nothing to cause your disappearence. Anything you do in the past alters what would exist in the future, but as soon as you time traveled you altered your existence to the world.
  18. I wonder what kind of potential large explosives would have for zombie fighting, meaning anything with enough force that might actually destroy brains ex. setting c4 charges around your base.
  19. I think the quality/type of sword is important for its effectiveness rapier/foil like weapons--useless, likely to break if you try to ram through a skull katana--if it is a well made model, I think a katana could hold up over time, though a machete is probably better if you dont have experience in useage claymore--too heavy to be worthwhile. my main concern with a crowbar is the reach, especially if its more then one zombie.
  20. reasoning skills for instance, if you had to pick between a hatchet and a can of cheese wiz as a weapon youd take the hatchet reasoning you can do more damage with it. The hatchet isnt labeled as a better weapon but it is.
  21. you could go back in time and kill your own grandfather; if you returned however, you would have no parents and no history. To be alive you dont have to have parents, you just have to have been born from them at one point, time travel makes you exist in a different way basically.
  22. does anyone else realize a drop of water would break apart at that speed, I agree if a drop was able to hit you at near light speed it would be fatal but most objects would break apart to nothing if you accelerated it that much. a drop of water is held together by intermolecular forces between the H2O molecules, these forces could not hold it together at a high speed.
  23. agreed, but it is the duty of science to find out everythign eventually so Im sure they will figure it out, and then it will be banned for being immoral
  24. well a pistol is ok as a backup weapon for house clearing possibly, but the lack of accuracy creates a problem Im not that familiar with military weapons, what would be the best semi auto rifle for a mix of range and power?
  25. Yes, but I thought science was all about seeking patterns to find out the universal truths. So far science has yet to discover a method that mimics the creation of life from something completely inorganic. Im not well versed in everything we have proven about cells but the main one is scientists have proven that fats in water can form primitive structures that resemble cell membranes. These could have formed(with luck) around the other materials needed for life and formed a cell. Clearly, a lot more pieces of this have been worked out that I have not heard of, but the main thing is they are working on creating life from non life.
