  1. I believe with the government coupon my family paid 10 bucks for a converter box I really dont see the need for this, as has been said if you couldnt spare the 10 bucks for it over the course of an entire year I think you have bigger problems then watching television. I dont want this to sound like a political potshot, but it really is bad when the government thinks it needs to baby people like this.
  2. Great example. The problem is that a lot of these arguments have people that seem to ignore the possibility that anything beyond empiric study exists. agreed, its a shame really as good religious discussion is always very interesting.
  3. If I understand the meaning of it, its an explanation for things such as wave equations for electrons and such. The main point is that there can be two different correct answers based off of your viewing point. An electron obviously has a given location and motion, but it cannot be measured without altering one of them. So for us humans the electrons position is described by a probability of location where as its real position could be given by a coordinate. as a more practical example, you and a friend are on different sides of a room staring at a rubix cube(not knowing it is a rubix cube). You may think it is a blue cube your friend may think its red, but in reality its both and neither of those.
  4. well I have my doubts about the availability of any standard silencer for weapons post apocalypse. Assuming we get one good mechanical person, basic silencers are pretty easy to construct, its just using a sound absorbing material, and a barrel extension to reduce the gas decompression speed. Also, isnt a silencer for a close quarters weapons a little counter productive, if you want something for close combat then making it have a longer barrel isnt a good idea.
  5. I know, I mean it does sound like a great idea but even ignoring that, to say try to only have sex on interval y of the week seems like it would be rather infeasible.
  6. [hide=] [/hide] attempting to match fertility cycles doesnt work, there is some logic behind it but its not nearly as effective as much better methods. If we want to get technical there is surgery to make someone 100% steril but thats a fairly extreme measure.
  7. I mean 22 pistol for close combat 22 rifle for long range Im sure there is a magnum calibur that is used by both a handgun and a rifle, that would be ideal if you could handle the kick
  8. well if a 22 pistol exists then you could use the same ammo for both of your weapons.
  9. Well, its likely the world will assume a largely socialist state, after all as everything becomes machinized there will likely not be enough jobs available to actually keep our current model. If the only work we need is people to manage production of goods and maybe someone to repair the machines(we may make machines to repair machines) then clearly you cant employ enough people to prevent poverty without a socialist/communist system. This is of course assuming we dont have a massive was that destroys industry and have to rebuild.
  10. -1 does not equal 1, thats what you are arguing. Ill show the proof if you really need to see it
  11. assuming bravery and cowardice actually worked like this 1. brave people may be more likely to win a war, its logical to think bravery would make for better soldiers, and if someone is better at fighting with any weapon they are more likely to survive the fighting. starting with WW1, I think only WW1 and WW2 were large enough to actually make a dent in populations worldwide. Those wars involved drafts of most if not all of the involved countries so its fair to say that even with draft dodging it would have been a fair representation of male genetic patterns. Since its just as likely bravery encourages survival theres no reason to believe more brave then non brave people would die. I mean, do you favor a coward or brave person in a knife fight in the trenches? I doubt it boils down into genes this easily, just thought I would disprove the basis of that. As a closing note, one key thing about natural selection is it doesnt necessarily breed "better" creatures in the universal sense. If all the food on the earth became apples, just because some birds would do better then humanity doesnt birds are more advanced.
  12. I like to think everything should be approached from an empirical point of view with the acceptance there are limits. It goes back to the teapot in space thing, the belief in something like god at its very base requires non empiric faith but that doesnt make it less logical then something that is empirically defined.
  13. yes, because they are opposites and a negative sign can also be read as the opposite of. Schrodinger's cat is an interesting paradox about how reality can exist in multiple states(outside box has a cat that is both alive and dead inside box has only of those)
  14. The main benefit of a revolver is reliability, so I wouldnt plan much modification since it would be simpler to just go with a semi automatic. Side arms would be used to clear houses anyway, so if you emptied the revolver you could just step to the back of your squad while you reload.
  15. This is a misrepresentation of pro-lifer's arguments. Very few argue against abortion on the sole grounds that you are "killing life." Rather, pro-lifers tend to see abortion as the unjustified killing of a legal person. The debate here stems from one's interpretation of "personhood." agreed, thats probably the best way of framing this also for the sake of uniformity regarding stuff like genetic research
  16. well since Im working toward 99 range Id earn money for aviansie gear then camp there till I felt rich enough.
  17. I dont think it matters whether or not you capitalize god/God. Most religious people choose to capitalize God I choose not to capitalize god generally because I dont believe in any religions model.
  18. raven, theres a very big difference between being reckless stupidity and things actually going wrong. Anyone using good protection is being responsible, if they are reasonably quick and getting the abortion I feel they are still doing the responsible thing. If they wait 7 months then they are being irresponsible. What I think you are misunderstanding is that noone wants there to be abortions, but we cant force children on everyone and not allow exception.
  19. Because for the 9 months of the pregnancy it would be a constant reminder, Im not saying people should abort the baby just because it resulted from a rape but they do deserve sympathy and it would be wrong to force them to carry the child. (this coming from a pro life person)

[hide=] [/hide] fatalism isnt saying that you can calculate everything, its saying that everything will happen in a given manner for what the calculations which are impossible to gain would tell. Since the Heisenburg uncertainty principal says we cant know the movement and place of an electron we could never say how everything would turn out, but it holds that logically if everything in the universe is doing a specific thing what will happen next is also entirely specific. Though this may be true, its not like you dont have free will, it just means your free will was created and has already been basically chosen. Its hard to analogize this properly, but its like saying just because we evolved from monkeys doesnt make us less human. edit--cartoon hadnt loaded, that was really awesome.
  21. wow, half a page of posts and I have nothing to say. I have a better one for parcedon, what is your opinion on the morality of aborting a fetus conceived from rape that is diagnosed with a severe illness that will lead it to be in constant pain its entire life?
  22. average slay rate for an hour of experience mean an about figure. If you train one hour your rate me be a good chunk off based on task if you do 10 hours your rate will be closer to the actual average because you will have a mix of fast and slow tasks if you do 100 hours you will be closer etc. flip a coin twice, its quite likely you wont get 1 head and 1 tail.
  23. Im assuming that was a reference to the interesting paradoxes thread answer I gave you?
  24. theres a difference between having a strong opinion and making yourself look very foolish.
  25. Purepayer, no question. I call first bite I hope someone got joke before reading this line
