20-Oct-2009 - Ardougne Achievement Diary
I understand your point, but I encourage you to just give it a second look from another point of view. Runescape, for awhile, has been a game where most stuff has no point to level past ~85. This game the feel of "you can play this game for a little each day, and youll eventually get your favorite skills to the point where you can do the things you want". After all, there is very little USE to having skills over 92, yet 92 is only halfway to 99. Now I understand your point. Perviously, RS has been this game where anyone who goes over 92 in a level is just TRYING to "achieve" something, and not really unlock some USEFULL content. However, take a look at the most recent skill addition: Summoning. This skill is slow and painful to raise, but there are STILL usefull things at levels 96 and even 99. I think that this was Jagex's first step toward making the game have these usefull things at very high levels. All I can say is that Runescape is finally becoming a harder game. It might have seemed hard enough to you already, but some people have been around longer and need harder things. One thing I do not quite understand is: what is the problem with rewarding these people in some way? The elite rewards really do not unlock anything that is hugely better than the "hard" tasks. Is it just because you don't want to always see that red/yellow "Elite" text under this diary? I think that really is the only problem here...it is not like there is an achievement diary cape, and you do not need to finish this diary to unlock any huge features in this game. I think the only problem you have with this is just because you THOUGHT the diaries were supposed to be something like quests, but really they are a little bit different. Let me ask you this: how is seeing an incomplete diary any different than seeing 80/99 summoning? Both things are "incomplete" and both things would unlock game features if you worked on them. Whats the difference?

Cash is Junk
You live in one right now, most likely. When was the last time you paid with cash, when you had the option to pay with your debit card? It's a similar situation, where the concept of cash is still the backbone of the economy, but the demand is for the item, not the wealth. And like you've touched on, it's because they made cash so easy to obtain. Though I do have to chuckle when so many people say, "It's 76king oh no!" Yes, it's that. But there are also many, many other methods that pump cash into our wallets with absolutely no effort. What about Fruit Falling at the duel arena? Flipping items via the grand exchange? Merching clans as a whole? And all the various other little get-rich quick schemes that, bit by bit, aren't too devastating, but when you add them all together...76k'ing is only a slice of the troubling pie that is the failing short term economy. I don't want to sound rude, but you are missing the point. The methods you listed are making people wealthy, but they are not bringing tons and tons of COINS into the game. It is just a transfer of coins from one player to the other. The reason he is mentioning 76king is because all it takes is an investment of 76k in junky items, and you can spawn over a million GP into the game by trading in the statues. The biggest coin spawner used to be Coinshare, when the price of AGS was 120m+ and nobody was buying it. However, now PvP is definitely the largest source of excess GP in the game. Again, just wanted to clarify this for you.

Worst Game You've Ever Played?
Aside from RPGs, the only genre of game I really play is survival horror. And I have to say that, by far, the worst one I have ever played is the new Alone in the Dark. The visuals are stunning. But, the gameplay is so boring and clumsy that I couldn't even finish it. I ALWAYS finish games, just for the experience...it says a lot when I don't. Plus, it played like an action game, and had no suspense or "scary" elements. A huge disappointment from the rest of the series.

Farmville: a gateway drug?
I am sure that if any of you are on Facebook, you've played or at least SEEN Farmville. Basically, it is Facebook's version of an MMORPG. It is crude, and in my opinion, very boring to play. However, it seems to have a huge popularity, even among people who are not very "nerdy"; even the kind of people who would probably laugh at you for playing RS are starting to play Farmville. My question is this: do you guys think that Farmville could introduce a wider population of people to the world of MMORPG games? Will people ever admit to themselves that it is extremely fun to "level up" a character in a virtual environment with all your friends? What leads to Farmville's "sucess"? Is it the fact that people know RL friends who are also playing the game? Would the same people be willing to try Runescape if they knew a lot of friends were playing? I find the concept very interesting.

Unjustified censorship!
As a bisexual male who has been struggling his whole life to determine his sexual preference, I must say this thread is ridiculous. In this thread: a bunch of people who don't know what its like to be a homosexual stating "facts" about how people think. I know you guys like to put everything in black and white, but this is something that you can't really do it with. People are really complicated and you can't simplify it to right or wrong. Some people have a choice, others don't. A bisexual obviously has the ability to choose what sex they would like their partner to be. "On topic": Nothing is obscene about these words, but they deserve to be censcored due to their sexual nature. A lot of words conscening heterosexuality are censcored also...If you want the freedom to talk about your sexual preference, you can. You can say things like "Actually, I like men" You dont have to say "I'm a homo".

Removal of new high level potions in PvP
What about wealth? D claws are inacessible to me because I spend all of my money on skills. So when I want to PvP, it is less acessible to me because I cannot afford high quality weapons and armor!!!!! Not being able to afford herblore training is the same thing as not being able to afford weaponry. Ban all weapons from PvP now!!!

Removal of new high level potions in PvP
I have to wonder, how exactly do these decisions get made at Jagex HQ? Dummy A: Oh, looks like players are complaining that these are overpowered for PvP Dummy B: Hmm, seems R&D looked over that part of the game entirely, guess they shouldn't be used there. Or...maybe: Dummy A: The players are complaining that these potions are overpowered for PvP. Did we test them in that area of the game? Dummy B: Yes, as it is our job, we tested these potions and balanced them according to every aspect of the game, including PvP. Dummy A: Well its been TWO days. Before seeing how this actually affects the game, do you think we should undo all the balancing that the development team put into these potions? Dummy B: Yeah sure, lets let the players make this game, it'll be easier for the complaint department and those guys look like they need a nap. The sad part is, the actual conversation had to be somewhat like this.....They either didnt consider PvP at all, or they put a lot of work into creating what they thought would be a nice balance. I think it likely is the second option, which makes it pretty sad that so much developmental work became obsolete due to complaints that ran wild before anyone even bothered to see if PvP was even messed up in the long run.

Removal of new high level potions in PvP
I am all for our skills having a non-tradeable usefullness in PvP, but I have to say that I agree with this decision right now. As it stands, herblore is the only non-combat skill that has these types of effects. I like the concept of the exclusive aid to people with high levels in the skill, BUT we really need there to be a few more other skills like this first. Honestly it would be bad game design for there to be attack, str, def, magic, range, hp, pray, summ, and JUST HERBLORE as the skills that you need for combat improvement. I feel that if there were 4-5 other skills that added PvP advantages, this herblore update would make more sense to stay. People wouldn't like it still, because theyd have to train SOME skill, but it would make more sense to force players to train one of their favorite skills instead of forcing everyone to have high herblore if they want to wipe up in PvP. EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention that I completely disagree with the decision to remove this from castle wars and other safe mini games. CW has absolutely no combat level restrictions...why does it matter if someone is just that much more insanely powerful than you? If a level 100 without herb comes across a level 100 with herb, why does it matter if the one guy gets blown out of the water? Just pretend he was a 138. Plus there are no rankings or anything like that for Castle Wars...I dunno...

07-Oct-2009 - High-level Herblore Potions
He wasnt saying that there are other non combat skills that you NEED for PvP combat, he was just saying that RS has been merging the idea of being good at both combat AND non combat skills. This is just the first step of needing non combat skills for PvP. You have to start somewhere. Eventually, I bet that each skill will effect combat in a non tradeable way. They first went along the idea of merging skills and combat when they released the wilderness...Some nice places to train, especially agility, but lots of risk of death so to get the best Agility experience you would need nice combat levels. The next skill-combat merge was with brawling gloves. These glove rewards encourage you to do both PvP and skill. Further, they encourage you to use them in a dangerous place where your combat might be put to the test, in order to gain skill exp. Another feature of the game where skills and combat merge is in Stealing Creation. Unless you want to rely on other people for your combat sucess, you really need to have some skills trained to a good level to suceed in that mini game. You can choose to do nothing but collect/convert clay, or you can PK for your clay. Then you get points that you can spend either on combat rewards or skilling rewards, regardless of how you chose to play the game. This is encouraging people who usually perfer combat to play the mini game so they can easily train their skills in less time and get back to combat. Also, just recently the rock caverns came out. You KILL monsters, you get the bait, you fish. Combat and fishing, merged right there. What other proof do you need? Did you forget all these instances where you are encouraged to have both combat and non combat skills? What about summoning? Summoning is a combat skill but there are many familiars which are very usefull for skilling. Similarly, herblore is a non combat skill and now there are useful features for combat. This is not the first merge of skilling and combat, as you can see. Not to mention the simple fact that every skill leads to a product that is combat related...

07-Oct-2009 - High-level Herblore Potions
I basically agree with this. No update to any skill makes it "too expensive" because "expensive" is all relative to the means you have of making money. Everything you use in this game is either "worth it" to buy or "worth it" to gather yourself. So the higher prices take away the buyability of the skill for many people, but at the same time now herbs have more value so it makes more sense if you want to self gather them.

07-Oct-2009 - High-level Herblore Potions
You are just SAYING that it is a good thing, you haven't given any reason for it. WHY would it be a good thing to make new herbs/stories/ingredients/locations? The point of this year is not to flood the game with hundreds of new items that make old items useless. The point of the "upgrade year" is to upgrade skills and breathe new life into them. Before this update, the only herbs that were used in huge demand were ranarr, toadflax, snap, and kwuarm. The others were used for sure, dont get me wrong, but not nearly on the scale of these ones. Now they have taken some of the less popular stuff and made them usefull again. After the energy update, people used wayyyy less run energy potions. Now its an ingrediant for the spec restore. Also, less super energies also meant less demand for Avantoe, so now that is used for the extreme attack. The ONLY USE for Dwarf weed was ranging potions, now you need them for extreme strength. Lants were used for anti-fires, but magic potions were hardly ever used. Now you need lants for ultimate defence...Not only do these things create more demand for herbs, but also the herbs that were previously used in magic/range potions are now also useful for melee potions. Not to mention, the ONLY USE for tortsol herbs was zammy brew. Now you need it to bring the overdose together. Why should we flood the game with items when we have plenty of items that already exist which have quite low demand? Why should we let these old items be useless, when they can once again be useful? Also I am not convinced with all the people who say this update just makes a money sink more expensive. When training herb before you had two choices: make useful potions that would sell, but you need to invest a lot of money. OR you could make something like super attack potions for way less initial investment, BUT you would basically never sell off all your old super attacks....NOW, people might actually buy your super attacks with the intention of just making extreme attacks for herb exp. Also you could just hold on to those super attacks that you make, and now have a great source of exp once you got 88 herb to make them into extremes. Its all relative. At first, the price of Irits and stuff is going to rise high. But, thats because irits are not really grown by anyone, and a lot of people dont bother picking up Irits on slayer tasks, etc....If the price gets high enough, people are gonna start farming them and picking them up off the floor, and the supply will increase and the price will drop. It is all going to balance out anyway, but the total cost might rise a little bit due to increased interest in the skill. (BUT AGAIN, so what? it costs you more but it will also be WORTH more to you because of the benefits, so IT SHOULD cost more now)

07-Oct-2009 - High-level Herblore Potions
Cause what we need more of in this game is stupid little quests to unlock every update? I thought I was the master of complaining about bad updates, but you seem to have found a way to whine about even this amazing update. If they had made a quest you would have complained it wasn't long enough. Not every update covers every aspect of the game.

07-Oct-2009 - High-level Herblore Potions
Thank you very much! Only problem is that all of these ingredients are going to skyrocket right now...so people probably don't really appreciate what you did for its full value because those numbers will be way off within days. Anyone else really excited about the second ingredients for these potions? Things like wyvern bones, grenwall spykes, less demanded herbs...all are going to be more popular items now.

07-Oct-2009 - High-level Herblore Potions
We are not talking about hybriding. We are talking about the viability of a pure magic user vs. a pure melee user. What you are talking about is using the freeze EFFECT of magic, and then using the incredibly over powered melee damage to pwn someone. Hybriding just got more powerful, and with it, each new pure tree got more powerful also.... Have you seen the effects yet? Have you PKed enough since this update to know what people are doing? No. You haven't. Plus the update is only out for a few hours so far and is subject to change. We get new defense potions also...does this matter at all to you? All you are accounting for is hybriding in its current state, plus adding 15 damage to its current spells. But you are completely ignoring the fact that this hybrid is not the only person in the world, walking around with 99 herblore while the rest of us have 60. There are other people who are going to have other new potions also. The only people who get the shaft here is the nubs who never train skills and can't keep up with an evolving PvP atmosphere. However, I find it amusing that it seems like having 94 herblore gives about as much offensive ability as 99 summoning...minus the combat levels. :-D

Retro Revival - 15-Sep-2009
I think people knew eachother due to the ammount of interaction needed between players. Plus the smaller size of map and fewer things to do in the game. Plus people stuck to the same servers more.

The Current Poll and the pking IS rs Myth
The RS polls are useless. The only people who bother to vote are the people who do things such as raise all their skills, appreciate the content, etc... All the 13 yr old PKers who make up a ton of the population do not waste their time doing anything but PKing, which means they also don't vote. Similar to the US election. John McCain could have won if most of his supporters would have actually voted. Conversely, sissy Democrats/Liberals are hugely supportive of the voting process etc...and thus Obama wins.
