How can you guys handle this?
You seem to have skimmed right over the major point of this thread. The reason I pay a membership to any game is so that I have a game environment that WONT run out of content. For the past two years, my combat skills have been maxed out and I have had many skills up to their "maximum usefullness" for quite some time now. Thing have been easy/pointless for quite some time now, but I was more than content with how the game was operated. There weren't massive updates that catered to my level range very frequently...hell, if level 100+ players got an update once every two months, I would be happy. But even when I didn't get the updates I wanted, the updates still interested me. Even when I didn't have a new monster to train on every month, I still felt that I understood WHAT they were going for...why they made the lower level update. I appreciated what it added to the game, and there usually was something that I felt would be GREATLY usefull for SOMEBODY that was added every month, even a couple times a month. But I honestly do not understand the direction of this year's updates. They seem to all be marginally useful at best, and have done nothing to considerably alter the face of the game at any level.

This is absolute nonsense. Sure I have never been in software development...how does this mean I can't expect them to do their job well? Since you have never been a pilot, you have no reason to expect your flight not to crash. Since you haven't been a chef you have no reason to get mad if you get crappy food. Since you have never built a house you have no reason to be mad if you hire a person to build your house and it never gets finished. Your argument is terrible. Just pure crap. Completely illogical. Jagex wanted to release something nice for 150, and they weren't able to. If your company is gonna put out subpar content that is fine but I would at least like them to achieve their own goals and expectations. Not constantly miss the mark by months at a time.

Bumped for discussion about how the first update in two weeks is a quest that somebody could meet the requirements for on their first day of play. If you don't count Easter (which I wouldn't, since that update is now gone...) then this is the first permanent content update in 3 weeks and it is absolutely pathetic.

I didn't even know there was a bug with them for attacking people outside the clouds from the inside. Must not have been a largely used bug. cat666: I'm pretty sure they were referring to some other bug, from the sounds of it when you did Withdraw-X it did something weird. If they actually removed it thats really stupid. If someone was standing right next to the cloud, you could attack them and pickpocket them without coming out of the cloud. Anybody who played SC more than 5 times knew about this.

LOL This game is a joke, I'm glad I stopped wasting my 5 dollars on it two months ago. They JUST fixed the Stealing Creation clouds... :?:

But, from my understanding, they have several teams of developers, and I'm a little confused as to why it has to be content OR game engine. There are people who have been in charge of JUST doing 3d models for things...where have they been? There has not been a ton of new content this year, and I just don't understand what is going on. Have they put the content dev's on the task of helping to upgrade the "behind the scenes" updates? I understand that interface updates take a long time to come out with (if I am not mistaken, we wear bracelets on our hands because it would have taken many months extra to code a bracelet slot...) however I was also under the impression that most dev's in the company are not going to be working on that kind of thing.

I feel pretty stupid. I just realized that 4 months = 33% of the year, not a quarter like I had said in the OP. A quarter of the year is already GONE...(3 months) I get my 4s and 3s (and multiplying them to get 12) confused sometimes....? Lol It is good to hear such things as "holy cabbage! you read my freakin mind!" because this leads me to believe that tons of players are actually feeling similar things, but have been afraid to come out and say it for fear of being deemed a "complainer". :D All this being said...do you guys have faith in Jagex? Do you think that things are going to go back to normal soon? Do you think we are going to get rushed with tons of giant updates all at one time? I have watched this game evolve from its earliest stages into a hugely successful game that has begun to be recognized among "real" mmorpg's. It is both disappointing and saddening to feel that this game isn't receiving as much love and attention that it once was (from the dev's).

Sorry but I like to play my games, not work on them. If you consider a game work you shouldn't be playing it. Move on or stop complaining, this isn't rants. I consider your version of the game to be work. My objective is not to max out 99 skills for no reason, and train things for huge amounts of time when I'm not enjoying it. My objective in this game has always been to do what I see fit at any given time, and to constantly look forward to a new and exciting gaming experience. They have provided this at a fairly steady rate over the past few years, and over the past year especially. CB, summoning, Stealing Creation tools...just to name a few. Each bringing new useful and exciting content to the game. The entire reason I play an MMO is to have a game that will never get old.

First of all, thanks to all of the nice replies. I expected to get a lot of "stop whining!!!! omg just quit noob!" but I am delighted to see some actual conversation going. After all, that was my full intent of this post. I do not want to be a whiner, and I am really trying not to be over critical of Jagex. The point of this post was to see how many people are feeling the same way I am: concerned. Through the years, Runescape has always captured my interest. Even through upgrading my video card to play the various versions of Unreal Tournament, even every christmas when I would recieve a top of the line game system, even the month that HALO 3 came out...there was always my RS character. Sure, there were some months that I ended up playing no more than 5-10 hours through the course of the month, and there were times when I played 8 hours a day for a week or two. Even if I wasn't really planning on playing RS, I was still a loyal subscriber because I loved being first in line to check out the new updates, and I just thought that the 5 dollars a month was worth it to know that I had a members account to log in on whenever I wanted. Now as I am getting older and making more money, the 5 dollars a month somehow seems unjustifiable. The updates so far have just been absolutely lacking in excitement. I also want to make it perfectly clear that when I am speaking of a lack of updates, I mean it exclusivley about the CONTENT of the game (swords, armor, monsters) and not things such as the route finding update. They have made tons of awesome bugfixes and engine updates, but none of that is really anything great as far as gameplay is concerned. Obviously, I played and enjoyed the game for a long time before they fixed route finding, and it was not a reason that drove me away from the game, so them updating it is not something to draw me IN to the game either. Also, last time I checked there is a giant team of developers at Jagex, and they are all delegated to do their own things. To me, it seems like them releasing a strain of "user friendly" updates should not interfere with the quality of game content updates. Everyone on the quests teams should still be working on quests, and a different team working on bug fixes should not really impact the performance of the quest designers. When they said they were doing an upgrade year, they also said they'd be taking a good look at all the areas and skills that are rarely used and breathing new life into them. Has one update of this caliber come out so far? One could argue that the new distraction/diversion was a nice add to Woodcutting, but these days woodcutting is so popular that I would hardly consider that something that needs life breathed into it. We almost ALMOST had a new agility course to use on the road to 99, but then they said they didn't want to make Ape Atoll obsolete. Is there a reason that a course that came out years ago needs to remain the #1 way to train agility? If they had left the bandos course the way it was...people would have had a new competitive OPTION for training agility quickly. The course was marginally better than ape atoll, and you had to deal with the possibility of failing. This is "upgrade year", and for the 150th quest (which they made such a deal over that they designed a graphical overhaul of the main page to match it) we get an addition to the Agility skill (which I would say most people overlook) but the addition is only for a short level range till a few-year-old course becomes strictly better. What kind of upgrade is this?

A lot of people are reading my post and making it say what you want it to say. I'm not saying that there aren't things TO DO but there is little that I haven't done. Sure I could get more skills to 99 (even though most of them would be pointless, as far as gameplay is concerned). Sure, I could go spend more countless hours at castle wars. But I have already done all that enough that it just isn't a reason for me to keep playing this game. If you own a game like Legend of Zelda, you CAN go around killing stuff after you've beaten all the dungeons...but you probably won't want to because there isn't really a reason. And to all who are saying "update junkie" etc...This is a game I pay a monthly membership fee for. The whole point of a subscription to a game is to keep players paying for the constant work that dev's are doing. It is the entire point of having MMO communities, to live in a game world that is constantly changing in innovative and exciting ways. And, to one poster, my definition of innovative would be something along the lines of...if you are coming out with new mini game rewards, don't use a simple system of points in the mini game = turned in for direct exp. It has been done a few times and it really just gets old. New armor, new tools, anything along those lines would be creative.

How can you guys handle this?
Hi, I am a long time player of RS and have loved the game for years. There have been ups and downs as far as the management has been concerned...but for the most part it has remained fairly consistent, and there was always something interesting going on. However, as of late, I have completely lost interest in this game for the first time in years, due simply to the completely confusing and inconsistent nature of updates. About a month ago, I decided to let my membership expire for the first time in 4 years, and I haven't had any inspiration to get it back. To all who have not yet lost their drive to play this game...I want to know...how? What keeps you interested when you get 2 hours worth of quests over the past 2 months? What is worth the 5 dollars a month when, in the first 4 months of the year, the developers have failed to bring a single content update that has a long-term place in the game? The biggest update so far has been the release of Soul Wars. Though I think that the game is poorly designed, and it seems that the majority do not enjoy playing it, I can understand that there are a fair bit of you who might enjoy this mini game. However, you cannot deny that the rewards are dull, predictable, and lack the innovative creativity that has been keeping me with this game since middle school. The exp rewards make Soul Wars feel like a different version of Pest Control, and the pet rewards, while they do serve a slight novelty purpose, are such a tiny reward. How many people do you honestly see with pets out at most times? In every major location, you might see a few non-familiar followers, but it would seem that the majority of the community isn't too thrilled with gaining access to new pets. Also, compare such a reward to the armor rewards from Pest Control....PC gave us an innovative new armor concept, and till this day there are still crowds of people flooding the PC docks. Years from now, if there is anyone at all playing Soul Wars, I am going to bet it will just be thanks to its proximity to Edgeville... I understand that this is upgrade year, but this is getting ridiculous. You can't just stop releasing NEW game content in favor of "upgrades". Also, they said from the start that it was not their intention to neglect exciting, new content. I just don't see anything to back that up though...The company then tries to tell us that we are replacing BTS with a more regular flow of the dev diaries, as a more "open" form of communicating progress on upcoming updates. What have the diaries been so far? We have gotten information about....drumroll....DUNGEON MAPS. OKAY now maybe I am off my rocker here, but this whole dungeon map thing....it really is not a big deal. It is a convenience. Nobody wants to hear diary progress about this garbage. We have all made our way to fansites and all of them have great mapped out dungeon areas. In game dungeon maps will be great and all...but to give us a sneak peak at THIS out of all things? Wow. What other diaries have we had the privilege of reading? New dwarf quest! Lets take a look. http://www.runescape.com/kbase/view.ws? ... ry_dwarf02 Now, here I have linked to you the SECOND installment of this exciting diary. When I saw this news update, I was expecting to open this baby up, see some pencil drawings of some short drunk guys, maybe some type of concept art for new monsters. What to I get to know instead? 1.) He says that he came up with a concept. 2.) He says the requirements are going to possibly be an inch above the other dwarf quests. 3.) This quest is not going to be a big finale of the series, in fact he is pretty sure there will be at least another quest after this one before the series could end. 4.) Months away from this update even having a chance of being seen. 5.) Basically, no work has been done so far. Overall quite the exciting read.........right? This isn't what the players want. We want to know that somebody, right now, is modeling the dragon pickaxe. We want to hear stories of game testers viciously battling eachother in new mini games. We want to hear about new monsters being tested and evaluated, additions and balancing issues with new skills/items/etc. We don't want to read about nerds pushing papers that are related to content that is multiple MONTHS away from release. Maybe this kind of crap would fly if these diaries were coming out every day...but so far I have gotten the impression that there is nothing promising going on at Jagex Ltd. What else do we know? They recently "missed" the 150th quest and were forced to release the chosen commander instead. Friday marks ONE MONTH since the release of Chosen Commander...how many complications did their 150th quest have? It is now a month off schedule and we have not yet heard anything about it. Where are the development diaries on this? THIS is the kind of crap we want to hear about... A THIRD of the year is going to be gone soon, and I feel that the progress that has been made this year is abysmal. Typically Jagex likes to start the year off strong, what with the kids being inside for the winter. You decide. Working hard? Or hardly working?

Bored of our armor
Yeah this is clearly the priority cause we all know how many threads pop up about trying to populate the cities and make them look realistic....... Whats the logic here? People whine about the armor all the time, so that means its less important than something I have never seen a thread about? We do need new armor. Why not just extend the "family crest" thing to be painted on rune plate and legs? That alone would give us tons of new options...

Why female players are underepresented in RuneScape?
I think the real question is: Why ARE female players underrepresented in Runescape? Seriously...why do people have so much trouble forming proper questions? Or maybe I should say, "why people don't form questions right???" "How to get 99 firemaking????" "Why prayer is unfair???????" Speak English, please. It gets annoying as hell.

Some 'blogger' parent thinks RS makes kids fat
When will people realize that the "addicting" nature of MMORPG's is part of a more serious problem. Frankly, real life sucks. If you don't agree with me, then you aren't old enough yet. Every profession/line of work that you could possibly dream of being a part of is completely corrupt with stupid people. Aside from establishing your own business...there is really nothing you are going to be able to do in life where you aren't held down by the corruption of the mediocrity in society. MMORPGs let us live in a world that is actually fun to exist in. Own your own guild...advertise your own specialized professions, interact givingly with strangers without the danger of them kidnapping you and holding you for ransom...and you get to fight dragons.

So is this a quest or not? :-k Correct me if I am wrong but I thought all of the holiday updates were going to have small quests.

Should I come back to Runescape?
If you think WoW is beating a dead horse then don't play runescape. RS seems more varied at first, but once you get to be high level the variety completely drops off and there is very little content that is appropriate for your level.

This is what I did  A red and a yellow have been sitting in my bank for about a month and I haven't really played WOW at all. I've been keeping up with the community still and watching for some great updates...and it is an absolute thrill to see my two little "long term" investments start to show some promise already. Every day when I wake up and see that they have risen AGAIN....the feeling is indescribable. I am an old old school WOW player...and I am absolutely delighted that I managed to nab two pieces of WOW history while the prices were so low. I am aware that there is the possibility that they will start to fall again, or that this is all part of a manipulation scheme, but either way it is worth knowing that I was able to attain these two hats before the inevitable rise in price would make them unattainable to me. I only wish I could have afforded more of them :( Whatever happens, I am in it for the long haul, and will never be parting with my beloved antiques of WOW history. I am sure nobody is going to read my post and think much of it...but it truly does make me feel warm and fuzzy inside to know that I secured ownership of TWO hats that will someday be the most elusive item in the game. I read the whole thing and agree with you completely. I have nothing else to add; you described it perfectly. Thanks, its good to know I'm not the only one out there. PS...my original post contained the acronym with an R and an S, not a W, O, W....Seems to be a crafty little word substitution prank on behalf on the administration. :D- 3rd Age/Spirit shields/Phats Discussion

Quoted for untruth. Way to attempt to use internet lingo to look cool, EXPLAIN in long words after attempting to use an "acronym", and then get the "meaning" of the "acronym" wrong. Ever notice that Quit Complaining would be QC? Did that ever clue you in? Besides the fact that you got the meaning completely wrong, PWUAAOTATEIA (people who use an acronym one time and then explain it anyway) have something missing in their head. Why use an acronym once and then write it out in words? Do you think it makes you part of the cool crowd? If so then you definitely fit in by getting the meaning completely wrong. QQ is not an acronym or a word, it is an emote.- How do you "complete" RuneScape?
