Dead input... again... oh and prevent autoattacks
Ok, so it's kind of an extension of my previous topic about dead clicks. This time, it's the action bar. If I rapidly switch the action bar, equip say two weapons and a piece of armor, and activate the 95 prayer for the relevant combat style, sometimes one or more of these actions will not go through--but only if I'm in combat and using just the action bar (I think?). It can't be the interface refreshing, AFAIK, because I can stand at a bank and every command goes through no matter how fast I am. It only happens in combat. edit: It may only happen in combat while at the TD cave. I just spammed abilities and switching on the dummies and it didn't happen once??? Is this Runescape's dumb action-per-tick mechanic? Because there's no way in hell I can use void or otherwise optimize my kills at Tormented Demons with these bullshit input issues. Someone claimed they achieved 210+ KPH but as it stands I can't even begin to manage following his advice because the input on RuneScape is so asinine. Also, is there a way to prevent autoattacks when switching weaposn via the action bar? Autoattacks almost upset me as much as the dead key input stuff during combat. There's a reason I'm using abilities!!!

Dead inventory clicks solution?
I found a decent solution if there's enough ability bar space. Have all but the main-hand switch on the ability bar... In my case, I have two ability bars for mage and range, and put mage void helm and virtus book on the mage bar, while on the range bar I put the range void helm and off-hand ascension crossbow on that one. What I do next is simple: 1. Switch to the appropriate bar. 2. Equip main-hand weapon from inventory... 3. ...and then press the keybinds to equip the off-hand and helm. Voila, no dead ticks and no weak autoattacks or unwanted ammo usage. Quasar's advice worked until I needed three item switches, if that helps.

Rune Labs Discussion
I want to suggest more special attacks because it'd make items spike in price if it went through and I love chaos... E.g., dragon hasta, dragon 2h crossbow, dragon staff. From a thematic standpoint, why are like half the dragon weapons missing special attacks? It's lame, I think.

I'm not sure how one is supposed to switch to revolution in P4 :| I tried right clicking the gear, and just got the stupid "you can't do this in combat." I think after the first kill (or first few), the game won't go into cutscene mode when Araxxi crushes her mate/boyfriend/husband/I-don't-feel-like-typing-Araxxor-oops (only when Araxxor climbs up to get squished will it play the cutscene). Therefore, you'll be able to switch to Revolution right when you get out of combat and before Araxxi attacks you. Alternatively, you can drink a potion or something from the inventory right after Araxxor finishes the climb to end the cutscene IIRC. People don't use revolution for everything? I personally think full manual is garbage. Makes it too hard/effort to keep your dps constantly up for "potentially" higher dps/utility if you'll even get that. I prefer full manual for some things. Araxxor and TDs are these 'some things'. Araxxor is easy with or without revolution, but TDs cannot be done with revolution efficiently no matter what, ever.

[WIP] [150+ KPH] Tormented Demons...
So I updated this guide with my new findings, near gear, and the Combat Beta changes (wow, that was a long time ago). Old guide, for reference: [hide] WIP This guide is very much a draft. I don't have it as nicely formatted as it should be, but I'm gonna work on that after I finish the relevant parts. Tormented Demon Killing Guide In this guide, I'm not going to elaborate on the super basics. We know what Tormented Demons drop and how dangerous they are. Instead, my guide is to make it more accessible to reach high KPH without much trouble. You are expected to know the layout of the dungeon. If not, feel free to run down there and pray mage while getting a good idea of the nooks and crannies. How To Kill Them Gear is important. The hands-down best gear is Elite Void. Tormented Demons are resistant to melee and switch between a weakness of magic (fire spells) and range (bolts), so we need to deal as much damage to their weaknesses as possible. Here's an image of gear: Armour: If you don't have [Elite] void, the next best option is Dragon rider. It lets you have more free inventory spots (reduce the prayer potion usage), which is nice if you get a good drop early on. Otherwise, warpriest. Akrisae's armour is worthless nowadays with Dragon rider being so cheap. Weapons: Dual wielding is best, DPS-wise [and mostly because of the tier 90 equipment], but two-handed weapons mean less error when switching. I use the best 2h weapons available at this time: royal crossbow and chaotic staff. Tier 75 gear works, but it will impact your speed considerably. Etc: Aura is vampyrism and it's rarely necessary. I bring it so I can anti-crash better, if the need arises (it's rare, but it still happens). Boots are superior dragon rider (note they are a bit costly for the primary bit and become untradeable; warpriest boots are next best). Amulet is dragon rider, again, for prayer bonus and critical chance provisions to both styles. Cape is the best cape you can use. Pocket item is charming imp, but you can use a scrimshaw instead for a slight DPS boost. Darklight or holy water? Holy water is necessary for max DPS. It never misses and will immediately weaken the Tormented Demon. Refer to the Legend's Quest guide on your favorite quest help site for more information on how to make it. I'd suggest creating 27 golden bowls first... Inventory I bring two of each overloads, prayer renewals, weapon poisons+, and adrenaline potions. The rest are prayer potions. Of course, bring runes and a sapphire lantern. KEEP A SPARE SAPPHIRE LANTERN. It will save you in the event YOU DIED. Overloads and prayer renewals are self-explanatory. However, the others may not be. Weapon poison+ is extremely cheap, but can be hard to buy at times. Tormented Demons can be poisoned, and they take upwards of 5 hits of it at 300 damage each during one kill, making poison extremely effective. There is no difference between poisons at the moment other than their duration. Adrenaline potions help ensure you can use thresholds whenever they are off cooldown. If you use the proper rotation, there is no need to sip more than one per overload dose. For familiars, the steel titan is useless when you mage/range because it uses range as well. If you must bring a combat familiar, bring an iron titan. If you have high APM you may be able to add an extra 1500-2000 damage per kill with proper scroll usage, but timing is tricky... In my case, I bring a bunyip. It means I don't have to use sacrifice as often, and just about covers most mistakes over time. Don't use a unicorn, it sucks. Instead, bring a beast of burden with food if necessary. Abilities You'll need two ability bars for maximum DPS: Notice the similarities and differences. It's best to have all three prayer styles on the bar, followed by your basics, followed by your thresholds. I add sacrifice last so I don't accidentally use it (misclick, whatever). Last item is the offensive prayer for the relevant combat style. Note: don't use revolution. It's horrible for killing Tormented Demons. Full manual, full time. Ability usage/killing a Tormented Demon Here's a video of what I do (first five minutes of a trip, first two are most relevant): Don't worry, there's no music or fancy crap. And here's it in text: 1. Always equip holy water before you attack the demon. 2. Queue piercing shot and then attack the demon. 3. Quickly switch to the relevant combat style and attack with certain rotations. After a full set of rotations, if the demon is still alive, kill it off with basics. The rotation idea is simple: deal as much damage in one time period as possible (AKA one tick). Tormented Demons switch prayers after 3100 or more damage; hence, you want to do the "or more" so you can switch styles less often. Abilities like bombardment take a few moments do deal damage, so stacking another powerful attack immediately is best. Wild magic and asphyxiate are similar. Here's the rotations that work best for range: 1. Launch piercing shot, queue bombardment, and then queue binding shot [or piercing shot again, if binding shot is on cooldown] once bombardment is fired. 2. Piercing shot, queue snapshot. 3. Piercing shot, queue snipe. Here's the rotations that work best for mage: 1. Wild magic, and then immediately queue wrack. 2. Asphyxiate, wait until the first hit lands, and then queue impact (or wrack, if impact is on cooldown). The order you use the rotations is not necessary, but the above is the order of importance. If you can't do rotation 1 for range, then the next best is 2, then 3. Same for magic. Hints & Tips Ability bar usage: I have Ability Bar 1 bound to the "A" key and Ability Bar 2 bound to the "S" key. This allows me to switch between them immediately. Once I switch to a different bar, I immediately press "X" which will activate the correct prayer. Luring: Lure only if two or more demons are attacking you. If you kill them in a constant order and do it quickly enough, this will rarely be a problem. You can use niches in the east and west side to hide. It's hard to explain how to lure them, because it changes depending on their position and other factors. You must learn through trial-and-error. Also, prioritize mage/range prayers over melee. Their melee attack seems to be less accurate and hits lower. Keep adrenaline full! If no demon is nearby after you kill one, keep an eye on your combat timer. The moment you're out of combat, use freedom or anticipate. You want to be able to use thresholds 90% of the time. Statistics For those interested, here are some statistics in regards to gp/hr rates, etc. At 5800 kills logged over 57 hours, I average 100 KPH. This, however, includes me not learning the optimal strategy outlined below. Once you get up to speed, it's realistically 110 or more KPH. Both dragon limbs and dragon claws drop at the same rate. Their drop rate is unknown, of course, and within 95% confidence is anywhere between 200 and 500. However, from personal experience, expect it to be closer to 1:250. Armour pieces are rarer, and although they aren't worth much in comparison, are still worth picking up. I don't pick up any other drops. That's just too much APM to alchemize them or bank them with a yak. Stackables aren't good either because of the initial inventory space limitation. And, the most fun bit, at just one trip shy of 6000 kills, I've gotten 22 limbs and 22 claws, as well as 17 armour pieces. This means, at the time of writing, I've profited upwards of 426 million to 463 million in 57 hours, making Tormented Demons around an awesome 7.4 million to 8 million gp/hr. And it's pretty consistent compared to other bosses because of how common the limbs and claws actually are. Longest dry streak was 1100 kills (no limbs, only three claw drops and various armour pieces), but it averages out in the end.[/hide]

Dead inventory clicks solution?
I would have used that but my character likes to autoattack if I switch weapons through the action bar unlike through the inventory, thereby wasting ammo and screwing with the prayers of the TDs more often than I care to recall.

Dead inventory clicks solution?
Much Jagex. That makes a lot of sense. Thanks! This really upsets me because if I didn't have to fiddle with the dumb interface I could achieve 170+ KPH. Grr. Gonna have to figure something out, because I really want to be the best like no one ever was.

Dead inventory clicks solution?
I don't use Revolution at TDs... What do you mean click between global ability cooldown cycles?

Dead inventory clicks solution?
I tried with something I whipped up but dead clicks still happen. It's not anything on my end. It's just Jagex's client being derp.

Dead inventory clicks solution?
Is there a solution to dead inventory clicks? I assume it's because the mouse moves just so slightly, maybe 2-3 pixels, and the game thinks we're trying to move the item instead of use it / equip it. For example, at TDs, I try and equip two weapons (off-hand and main-hand), but often (every two or three prayer switches) one or both of the weapons don't equip. This results in me wasting like 4+ seconds a kill at times trying to figure out which didn't equip or dealing so much less damage than I should have. If the problem is the game thinking I'm dragging something, I think I can fix that myself (by writing a program that intercepts the global input and ignores small dragging amounts while the left mouse button is held down... would just have to remember to close the program when I'm done with RS haha). But if that isn't the problem behind dead clicks then I don't know what to do. :(

First 3 claw drops. Had to drop all my Saradomin brews and was like 'nooo what if my aura doesn't heal enough.' Then two limb drops. And finally a dragon armour lump. After one hour, I made 29m at TDS. Extrapolate that!

Since whenever I started tracking TD kills (sometime in July... or maybe June I think), I've killed over 20,000. Average KPH is 113, but fine-tuning my most recent method has (last trip) earned me 155 kills in an hour with tier 80 gear. Not bad, I think. I wish limbs were still 20m each though, that would be 12m+ GP/HR at these rates... haha I can dream :(.

Speaking of Araxxor pet rolls... Technically, I know this is the same chance as any other roll (e.g., 107 or 299 or w/e), but I found it funny :).

Vampyrism aura (it's not necessary to survive, just makes it comfier), Elite Enhanced Excalibur (only once and a while), Blood Fury Necklace (awesome at TDs), Ring of Death, Sacrifice. I sometimes sipped super Saradomin brews since I'm still getting the hang of this new routine, will switch to regular brews once I'm more comfortable.

Here's a video (sped up from 1 hour to 2.5 minutes) of 140+ KPH: It's hard to tell the KC because it's only there for like one frame, but you can count if you want or just believe me when I say I start at 4861 and end at 5005, thus 144 kills in an hour. Also: 11.5 hours of TDs.

Bla bla bla. "Legacy is better for Tormented Demons." Bla bla bla. Nope. Managed to break my record of 138 KPH. New record: 145 KPH. With tier 80 gear. The previous record I made was with tier 90 gear. Oh and two limb drops, nice.

Boss Pets: a Ninja Update
0/10 update. Since Tormented Demons are no longer considered a boss monster, they don't get a pet. Sad day. How much I would have loved a little cutie Tormented Demon following me...

Go try picking up one of those programming languages maybe? Learning something new could be fun *shrugs*. That's actually a really good idea. I have a little more than codecademy-level python knowledge (mostly pygame). What are some nifty projects I can work on with that? I mean, "Games" is the obvious answer, but... actually, yeah, I guess I'll do that. Thanks for the idea. If you want to learn JavaScript, I have a project for you. Reminds me of this game I made... https://www.allegro.cc/forums/thread/596246 Wow. That was six years ago...

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
"Death of the Author." In no field of science do we consider our own biased, personal interpretation of a work to be the truth. I find most schools of criticism to be absolute crap and riddled with pseudo-science and 'interdisciplinary research' (in other words, formal bullshit). When I read 'As You Like It' by none other than Shakespeare I do not believe it's right to take this feminist or Marxist or formal 'lense' (yet another sign of this crap) and apply it to his work because it's about as relevant as a 10 year olds thoughts on why the moon isn't made of cheese. When reading Shakespeare's work, I do draw my own conclusions from it, but again, there is no basis on which we can support my conclusions--that is, my conclusions are different from your's which is different from his over there which is probably different from Shakespeare's intent, but whatever. And to say the author has no role other than writing a work is pure idiocy, as well. Tolkien built an entire world and to dismiss his intent is to dismiss the entire work. Authors don't create text to analyze, they create much more; characters we relate to, places we would love to visit, etc, etc. As well, you can't just analyze the text as some forms of criticism will have you think. There's so much more to a work than just text. To paraphrase C.S. Lewis essay on 'reader-response criticism,' if criticism was simply the analysis of text, we (non-French speaking people) could analyze French poetry in a similar manner to how we analyze texts in our native tongue. Reader-response criticism is perhaps the only sensible one, and that's that.
