China Using Prisoners To Farm MMOs
[hide] Did you even read the article? Why yes, as a matter of fact I did -- didn't you? Shall I read it for you? Once upon a time in a land far far away, there was this place where bad people went and they banged rocks, fletched chopsticks, read books and played video games. It was all such hard work. The end. Satire does not become the situation at all. This is a major problem which the public has had at least an idea of in the past - where people who were either poor or enslaved had to do stuff like this. Truthfully I thought that China had "outlawed" the sale of virtual gold. If prisons are doing this, then it's a pandemic that can't be stopped by simply going to the Chinese government [again] and asking nicely. [/hide]^^^ You have no idea how insulting that sounds, "working in a coal mine, carving chopsticks, digging ditches, memorizing communist propaganda from dawn until dusk, and gold farming for 12 hours straight" is not the same as a freaking daycare. Also to Sonikku, "It's a big business in China, earning nearly $2 billion in 2008", so I doubt there are many more lucrative things for prisoners to do. Lastly to the ban of selling in-game gold, according to this article "The Chinese government, however, appears to be uninterested in regulating sales of in-game items for real cash. A report in the English-language China Daily says that in-game gear is not considered virtual currency, so selling virtual items can be expected to continue," (Probably to control inflation, since the Q coin has a HUGE impact in China's market); so I suppose they could still make the prisoners gather raw resources.

Fight Caves Melee
Wouldn't you have to be attacking for the set effect to activate?

What's causing the price of Ranarr going down? (Soceress garden bots)
So is prayer and a lot of buyables. Though money is harder to come by, so unless you have the cashpile already it's about the same for the average player. I would disagree. Even armor is cheaper. Boss hunting is still fantastic income. I know very little people who skill for their money, so bots shouldn't really affect their income at all. :P. You, and many of your friends, are maxed combat I presume? And when you say bosshunting, you probably mean nex, maybe solo bandos, dks, or corp, correct? That's a pretty small segment of the population, it's a vital part and the goal for many strives, but for most of rs money making caps out at green drags or frost drags. What this does is cut into the incomes of people in the middle and on the way to the higher-end bosses; I just spend 110mil on pray and considering that I hate/suck bossing I doubt I'll be getting it back anytime soon.

Fight Caves Melee
I assumed it was a good idea, and I figured a good prayer bonus would be good too. I figured prossy plate and legs would work pretty well for covering both of those areas (relatively low defense stats on it, and a good prayer boost). Worked quite well, though if you mess up a switch with low defense like that, expect to get hit HARD (what am I saying, this is Jad we're talking about, always expect to get hit hard if you mess up lol). Alright thanks, though I won't expect to get hit harder if (Read: when) I mess up, just more often since defense only heightens the chance you'll get hit, not reduce the damage.

Scammers
It might also depend on who he knows while he's leveling up: if all of his "pro" friends scam and cheat for their money that's what he'll know, and other possibilities might never have crossed his mind. But still, 100k per hour is nothing, you'd think they could figure something better out just through trial and error.

Fight Caves Melee
Sorry to hijack, but for the deflect method would it be a good idea to lower your defense (Or at least not raise it) so that the deflect damage happens more often?

Handcannon
Yes, if you only want to train fm for the handcannon it's 99 or nothing.
-
mage combat with little to no loss?
Memb's dung is usually very crowded with bots, you could try the Ogre Enclave (Though I wouldn't be surprised if that's crowded too).
-
Handcannon
Even at 98fm the explosion rate is still too high to be worthwhile, basically max fm or stick to other weapons.

19-Apr-2011 - Items Kept on Death Changes
Verac's and Dharok's helms are both now ~2-3mil, so I'd say so.

19-Apr-2011 - Items Kept on Death Changes
you did, it was the part that included easter in the event. looks like jagex missed it too. Equinox celebrations predate zombie jesus anyway, we got a small cameo from the easter bunny and personally I'm glad we didn't have to return to that **** factory again.

Meet one of Jagex's new owners
Perhaps, but there are 2 things that bother me: for all the whining we make about short-sighted profit making from investors at least we know the track record of Goldman-Sachs decision makers, and they MIGHT be able to make a good movie, but the fact that the article cites the recent Transformer movies to talk about the studio dashes any hopes I had for that.

Pure training spot
If you're training on thugs - I assume your combat is pretty low. Why not train at the monastery? It's the one near the dwarven mines/where you get the multicannon replaced. You can always ask them to heal you if you're low on health - although you should be level-ing at a decent speed and you probably wouldn't even need this function in an hour or two. I don't want to be insulting or anything, but you do understand 1 def pures yes? :s ? What does you being a 1 def pure have to do with training at monks? You can't train there if you have 1 def? I don't mean to be insulting but your comment made no sense at all. If he won't be leveling defense he'll still be taking damage at the same rate so he'll still probably need the heal function a lot, though since you'll be killing them faster they'll have less chances to damage you so your statement is still half-true.

Frost Dragon Bones
They couldn't use that to train prayer, so unless you're talking about cash drained away from prayer into other skills or greater money making abilities the BXPW would have little impact on the prayer market. Also if the supply changes then the Quantity demanded changes, but not demand itself.

Prepare the floodgates; this'll be the first time they return lost items, and while I do believe it's the right thing to do community backlash could be incredible (Why didn't you do this for MA, or other lost binds, etc.).

You shouldn't post this when 400+ tif no lifers are reading this topic. Rs is srs bsns. The Triforce of no-life has spoken. *ahem* -nods wisely- ▲ ▲ ▲

NEED PRAYER ADVICE
2 words: Opportunity Cost. At your stats you should be able to unlock and kill frosties pretty well, so just do that to get the money you need.
-
Doing Slayer, need advice on supplies (15m)
The hell are you doing with 99 str and attack wearing dragon gloves? Idc if you hate questing, that's just depressing. Also try and do some tears and pengs to level up dung to ~50 to work towards a rapier; and work on getting farm up to do herb runs for extra cash.
-
Which juju's are worth it?
+1, the fact that you have 99 herb doesn't mean you shouldn't farm herbs, herb farming is for profit not for herb exp.

Jagex - Bot Busting
Let's look at the root of the problem. There are 2 "things" that make a game botteable & probable to bot: -First of all the action which have to happen have to be "easy" and repetitive. -Secondly a person has to be willing to bot: so the achievements are worth more than the path. Now to battle botting you actually have to adress these two points. The second point is hardly adresseable by jagex, it requires a mentality change not only in the game but in real life too. The first point is hence the only option we (jagex) has direct influence over. The problem with a single player game such as runescape is that it will always be terribly easy & repetitive. The game follows very easily predicteable patterns and there's hardly any adaption/generation in the different actors. So to prevent people from botting on mass scale the best methods have to require user interaction; it's simply as far as I can see the only test where a bot can't do something a human can. Ok, I get all that, but you still didn't provide an example of interaction that didn't fit into the two categories. Why I wouldn't want to have the interaction be in either of those is with direct cooperation you usually have to deal with idiots and elitism, and with direct antagonizng comes the whole skillers vs. pkers or crashing mentality; and all those add up to is just more segregating and conflict in our community.

Jagex - Bot Busting
Erm... Whether there were pkers or not, if a bot works through the abbys, it would work anyway... Yet bots DID NOT work through the abbys.. Because if you couldn't evade pkers efficiently (which wasn't hard, however it required some skill nonetheles) it wasn't efficient. There is no 1 way to evade a pker, pking styles evolved over time and you had to constantly adapt. Ok, so you want most of gameplay to be either directly cooperative or antagonistic, cool. Because the game actually allows for solo gameplay, and older players like that to avoid a certain type of (let's call them) "younger" player? Question remains: why do you play an MMO over a single player game with online highscore tables & lots of DLCs? Because I enjoy this world, its storyline and its mechanics, I have what I'd call some emotional attachment to my character, and I have developed some social bonds through this game that I'd prefer not to lose. That does not mean I want to DO EVERYTHING with someone else. I prefer a gamestyle where I pay little attention and watch videos or I grind while chatting; not a big fan of coordinating strategies with other people. To me user interaction in this game is largely just communication, anything beyond that I tend to avoid. Wrong. First, granite is among the best, but not "the" best method of training minine. Second, just because there are new methods available does not mean people are forced to use them. Of course not: however if new methods are generally better, it means that either bots have to adapt a lot of times (which is difficult for the bot writer, and buys jagex time to ban accounts) or it means bots stick to the easy-to-bot-low-level-methods. In both cases the effects of bots get lowered a lot! I'm ok with this suggestion, but the development time this would take in between everything else they're trying to do will be years. You're not just talking about a simple updated way to train: for each new training method you want different mechanics to trip up the bots, not to mention you'd be wanting ~20 different and efficient ways to train pretty much every skill. You're suggesting everything any player does hás to be done with someone else, like dungeoneering? That's about as ridiculous as the claims you make in your signature (in my humble opinion). Good job bringing an ad hominem fallacy to the discussion (besides my claim is based on the simple fact that for both studies I follow, aerospace engineering & technical mathematics, the average time a student takes over his study is 7.5 years). But anyways: user interaction does not imply having to work together.. It just means that the style of the game is different from a single player game. Once again I'd like to hear a suggestion from you that isn't either directly cooperative, a la Dungeoneering, or directly antagonistic, a la abyss rcing/pking.
