  1. The content coders base RuneScape content on history, folklore, etc. You can connect just about any of the RuneScape peoples to a race or location in real life history. AKA Fremmeniks = Vikings, Varrock = medieval London, Ardogne = Black Plague, etc.
  2. Willows have always been the F2P woodcutting staple, similar to iron and coal are to mining but with much less demand. Remember, armor is almost never considered junk, but anything you can make with willow logs is. And the only other thing you can do is burn them.
  3. Jagex changed the price floor/ceiling on many items, Willows were one of them. They've always had much higher supply then demand, so they fell to 8gp
  4. Perhaps Jagex should work on creating an uber-boss, something that would take literally hundreds of players working together to even hope of defeating. I think the reason they haven't done this yet is the fear that it could be "too hard" for people to bother.
  5. RuneScape is definitely harder to work with then other games because of lack of camera control, the Orb of Oculus is a bit unwieldy at best. It takes skill to create a decent video, but they can come out really well if you make good use of emotes, items, etc.
  6. This was die for a lon time. The current client is nothing but a compiled link to their webpage run through IE. Hopefully, they'll include extra features (maybe IRC links, Grand Exchange database integration, etc).
  7. Again, boss crowding is part of the reason these items are so rare. Making them available to anyone would devalue the items immensely, which is a bad thing,
  8. Bump, will be updating soon with new info :]
  9. I wish this was around when I joined, seems alot more fun for a newb then "sheep shearer" or "cook's assistant" tbh. The unique weapons are also pretty neat.
  10. Could have been worse. That;s why I NEVER switch windows while I'm anywhere remotely dangerous. It's a habit that's saved me many times.
  11. Isn't that why we have multiple worlds? Without competition for the bosses, drops would be seriously devalued.
  12. Interesting point. I agree, to some extent - it's a great thing, but like everything else in moderation.
  13. @BloodAngel, I understand your concern but you only see it here because I am the only person who has knowledge of this glitch who isn't hiding in some dark corner abusing it. I am not asking you to do anything, buy anything, or sell anything. I am simply alerting you that this is happening, and you will see proof of this soon enough. I believe Jagex will handle this in a similar way to the method they used to handle the Penguin incident:
  14. I will post the technical details of the glitch (how and why it works) once Jagex has patched it. Unfortunately, I know for a fact there are several hundred people who have duped up to half a billion coins in items up to this point. I just hope that Jagex bans most of these abusers to keep the duplicated wealth out of the economy. EDIT: Joe, this is not a decoy, this is real. The item in question is a faitly common item, and has actually started dropping in price because of the immense supply created by bug abusers over the last two days.
  15. As far as I know this glitch can only duplicate unlimited numbers of a certain high-value item, which people are exploiting to bring billions into the game. While there is a possibility other items may be affected by this particular glitch if done in different ways, I do not intend to look into it and I'm confident that Jagex will patch it before anyone finds anything that may lead to this.
  16. I guarantee you this will crash and be forgotten within a few weeks.
  17. As some of you may already know, there is an open duping glitch in RuneScape, close to the scale of the Purple Partyhat dupe (although it does not affect rares). I've reported this glitch to Jagex, as soon as I learned about it and it should be patched within hours. However, billions of GP will already have entered the game from the abusers who already know this glitch. Is this going to affect the economy in the long-term? Even if the biggest abusers are permabanned (which they almost certainly will be), so much cash has already come into the game because of this that it may have long-term effects on the inflation level in the game. Personally, I'm going to put alot of money into rares - these are the only safe investment if inflation really does take off because of this. Thoughts? 18. From what I read, there was a different wrecked ship in the wildy before this update, and this one is new. This one I know was there beforehand: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jqDJ_g56Pm4/Sy6IQ0A1nLI/AAAAAAAAAns/6-ftl-GCztY/s1600-h/rev.png Does anyone know for sure?
  19. Some guys on my forum found what looks like a ghost ship in the wilderness awhile ago, on the same day as the "dark force" event.. anybody know what this is, and is it sill there? Does this have anything to do with the new skill release, or something else? [Original thread here]
  20. I posted a xopy of my investing guide in this forum, it's somewhere near the bottom of this page (or on the next one).
  21. Yup, here are the only ways you can get a mintcake besides trading: A mint cake can be obtained as a rare reward from the Gnome Restaurant minigame by doing hard orders for the gnomic explorers Brambickle, Penwie and Wingstone. There is one other way to obtain a mint cake: During or after The Path of Glouphrie quest, Longramble will exchange a mint cake in return for delivering a Tangled Toad Legs. This can only be done once.
  22. The Junk System, Mints and "Virtual Wealth" How to understand and use the "virtual wealth" merchanting system Hi Tip.It, This is another guide in my merchanting/investing series, specifically aimed to help explain the purpose of "virtual wealth" (AKA junk and items such as Mintcakes) to players who may not understand it, as well as offer some tips on how to get started merchanting and profiting using the "virtual wealth" system. This guide was written by me for the Grand Exchange section of Rune-Tips.net, the original version can be found here. If you've spend any time trading in worlds one and two, you've probably already seen people using the "virtual wealth" system to barter, trade, and make deals - the most high-profile item at the moment being Mint Cakes. Ever since unbalanced trade was removed from the game, players have been using a variety of methods to continue to trade their valuable items and commodities outside of the Grand Exchange, and the current "virtual wealth" system has now become almost universal. What is "virtual wealth"? When considering any tradeable item in RuneScape, it is important to understand that it has two "values" - Trade Price, and True Value. Of these, the first is fairly straightforward - the Trade Price of an item is simply the medium Grand Exchange price, which you can find in the Grand Exchange Database. The second "value" of an item is the True Value. True value is the price people are willing to pay for an item. When the "true value" of an item is OUTSIDE of the Grand Exchange price range (above or below), this item is almost exclusively traded on the Virtual Wealth market. If an item's True Value is UNDER the Trade Price (like crashing items and useless items) is is classified as JUNK. If the True Value of an item is ABOVE the Trade Price (like mintcakes and rares), the item is classified as a COMMODITY. How can I sell an item for it's "True Value"? Let's assume you have an Easter Egg, a rare with a Trade Value of 50M in the Grand Exchange. Anyone with any knowledge of the rares market will know that nobody will sell their egg for 50M, however - the true value of the egg is MUCH higher, let's say it's 150M. How can you sell your egg for it's true value since the trade limit prevents unbalanced trades? The answer is that you can get the "true value" for your item by using the Virtual Wealth system. There are two ways to do this - if you possess junk, you can make the buyer buy an amount of your junk as well as the item - if the trade price of your egg is 50M, and the true value of your egg is 100M, you could trade someone your egg as well as 50M worth of "junk" in order to receive the "true value" of your egg. If, however, you do not possess junk, you can still trade with "virtual wealth" - in addition to cash, the buyer of your commodity item must give you an acceptable amount of other commodity items to balance the "true value" of the trade. For example, you might accept 50 mintcakes as well as cash for your easter egg to "balance" the trade. How can I aquire items with a high "true value"? If you possess no items with a high "true value" like mintcakes, it's very hard to acquire your first one - since nobody will sell one for trade price! You can use several methods to aquire your first stock of commodity items: Buy one with junk If you are willing to lock up some cash in junk, you may find someone willing to sell you a commodity item as long as you buy an amount of their junk along with it. Buy one with rising items If you are lucky enough (or smart enough) to have a large amount of items that are rising fast in the Grand Exchange, you can almost always find someone who will give you commodity items to sell them for trade price. This works especially well if the item is rising because of an update. Learn more about finding good rising items in my Investing Guide. Acquire them yourself While not recommended, some non-discontinued "commodity" items can be obtained ingame (although they are always hard to get). Mintcakes, for example, can (very rarely) be obtained from the Gnome Restaurant minigame. Rising items can also be obtained at their source if you have the right levels and equipment, although you won't be able to acquire as many as you would have if you knew to buy them before they started rising. Commodity Merchanting If you are lucky (and skilled) enough to acquire a large stock of commodity items, you will find them invaluable in helping you earn lots of money, fast. Commodity items can be traded for rising items that you missed out on, used to sell an investment RIGHT at the top of its rise (that you would otherwise have had to hold until it dropped in price), or bartered for rares that will earn you millions as they rise in the long run. Some high leveled players also enjoy the thrill of staking by offering commodities with a low Trade Value (such as Mintcakes) as the spoils during staking matches in Al Kharid. Finally, you will find that the "true value" of commodity items may change over time - use this to your advantage, and a skilled merchant can easily turn a stack of ten mintcakes into a stack of 20, 30, or more through the tried and true skill of classic merchanting. Good Luck, and Happy Merchanting!
  23. Jagex's game developers seem to know a lot of history and popular culture, and they like spicing up the game by adding it in. The whole Fremmenik culture is based on the vikings, including their belief system, dress, weapons, and buildings. Similarly the desert culture is based on ancient Egypt, including many of the storylines of quests that take place in the area. Ardougne also reminds of London during the plague. I think it adds a whole bunch of interesting storylines and little tidbits of knowledge to the game. In addition, they have fun references too - use a herring on a tree, and you get a Monty Python reference.
  24. Buying a partyhat doesn't help solve inflation - that would be the true value of having this.
  25. Personally, I think Jagex could kill two birds with one stone by releasing a GP skillcape, only available to players with over a certain amount of overall wealth. This could be considered a "merchanting skillcape", since 9/10 rich players got there through merchanting of some kind. This would recognize players for their achievement as well as give Jagex a great money-sink to help push back inflation - the GP Cape should cost at least 99M nonrefundable GP. Imagine how great it would be for the economy to actually have a legitimate way for money to leave circulation, bringing prices back to their pre-inflation levels - having a mil would actually mean something again. Thoughts?
