Why female players are underepresented in RuneScape?
I love sausage festivals! :D This one time, I was in Vienna and...wait, I see what you did there. You were implying that RuneScape is nothing but guys, right? I would have thought that the number of female players on this board alone would be enough to prove that just isn't true.

wierd and wacky facts
-40 is the same temperature in both Celsius and Fahrenheit. It's the only point where the two cross. In most of Canada, all the retail gasoline safety guidelines that everyone follows (ie: turn off your car, don't smoke) are just that: guidelines. The only place that has actual legislation in place to govern retail gasoline safety is Ontario. The regulatory body that enforces gasoline safety in Ontario is not even a branch of the government. The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) is an independent, not for profit organization that has been given license by the province. Despite what was disproved on Mythbusters, a cell phone *does* generate enough spark to ignite gasoline vapor. I've seen it happen!

rune rocks
100 in 3 hours is not hard to get. At Light Temple mines with a War Tortoise, I can consistently get ~45 ores per hour. Oops, my bad. I keep forgetting that members have better places to mine Runite than the wilderness...

rune rocks
Runite is like every other high level ore. Sometimes it takes two hits, sometimes it takes two minutes. Most of the time is consumed jumping worlds looking for ores. If you're going to do it for any length of time, I'd recommend making a scout so that you can jump worlds twice as fast. 100 in 3 hours is possible, but you have to be pretty lucky on the spawns. I did nothing but mine Runite last weekend, and averaged about one load every hour.

The Queen - useful or useless?
Please explain the logic behind that statement because I can't think how removing the Queen and economic depression go together. Perceived governmental instability. Removal of the reigning monarch and dissolution of the current political structure would, despite what they would outwardly say, give the other nations, and more specifically the leading companies/investors in those nations, the impression that England was not a stable place to invest or do business. Reduction in trade with other countries, especially in a country as small as England who has no hope of producing everything it's industries need, could easily lead to a recession. A recession would lead to companies laying off employees or closing altogether. That, in turn, would lead to increased unemployment which would further increase the impression of instability and cause more countries/people to pull their investments out. It's a vicious downward spiral which can be very difficult to pull out of. I'm glad you cleared that up but I still don't agree. Its pretty well known by anyone who has any dealings with Britain that the Queen has little practical power and that the powers she does have are ceremonial in practice. I don't foresee any perception that the country will become unstable if the Monarchy goes. We've got a long established reputation for global trade that I can't see being obliterated overnight by getting rid of the Royals, if the British are known for anything it is for being 'civilised' there is little chance of any dissolution ending up in a constitutional crisis (not that we have a written one anyway but now we're splitting hairs).[/hide]In short, the dissolution of the Monarchy would have zero, or negligible, effect on our system of government in practice which is the cornerstone of your theory. If the British Monarchy was dissolved, I do hope that there would be no ill effects. Your argument certainly makes a lot of sense. Admittedly, I'm not an economist and have based my argument on what I've seen of business and government practices. Still, as you pointed out, it is just a theory. :

The Queen - useful or useless?
That same argument was made against independence in America in the 1700's. The English monarchy has been around a LOT longer than American independence. Granted, but it doesn't invalidate the comparison. If England were to remove the Queen from power, yes there would most likely be a period of discontent and even economic depression. However, I feel that if the British were, ultimately, able to move past the power structure they have clung to for 500 years they would reemerge with a stronger sense of self and begin building themselves back up into a world power that would once again rival the United States. That being said, I feel that if Queen Elizabeth can remain on the throne long enough for Prince Charles to decide that he is too old to assume it (except, perhaps, for a token period just so he can say he *was* King), then hope is on the horizon in the form of Prince William. Good looking, well liked and with no small amount of his mother's charm, he may be just what an ailing world power like England needs: a recognizable, intelligent, charismatic King who can begin to steer his country in a new direction while still being young enough to remain in power for years to come, and who may yet influence world events in ways no one can predict.

So now you want them to lock the thread because not enough people agreed with your complaining and felt you were getting upset over nothing? :-s

The Queen - useful or useless?
Not to mention the Royal Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force, Since we swear an alegienace (sp?) to HRM 'Liz II. Which is something i've always wondered, If we (Australia) were to become republic, what would happen to the our Air Force, let alone the Officers in it that swear an Oath of Sentence to HRM. Would they lose their jobs? Shipped off to England? Something thats puzzled me for 2 years now. Canada has a similar governmental set up. We have the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as a national police force for crying out loud. We also, like Australia, are essentially a constitutional monarchy. We have our own government and constitution, but still have a Governor-General wielding supreme veto power over anything the government tries to implement (although, if memory serves, that is a power that was only ever used once in Canada's history). Like the Queen in England, the Governor-General in Canada has become simply a figurehead; a reminder of how our political system originally ran. Our GG also, like the Queen, seems to do nothing but eat up public funds holding functions for political figures from other countries and traveling the world. Heck, very few people in Canada, or anywhere else in the world for that matter, realize that the GG is technically our head of state and so is not seen as such (admit it, how many of you knew that Canada even had an official representative of the Queen here?). The Queen is seen as the head of state in England, and so if the monarchy was to be removed it would be seen by the rest of the world as a major change to England's political structure which would bring forth doubt about the country's stability and, ultimately, further lower an already dwindling voice in world events. Not to mention lower the value of the British Pound and, most likely, force them to adopt the Euro they fought so hard to keep out.

Rune mining- worth it or not?
I found using a scout made jumping worlds a lot easier. Yes, it's annoying to have to walk all the way back when it dies (and it will) but with the 30 second login delay, it lets you check 4 worlds in one minute instead of only 2. I also usually brought 10-12 swordfish for food. I didn't always need it, but when I did it meant that I could still get a full load without having to go back for more food. One Runite ore will pay for two inventories of swordies, so you won't even notice the cost. :D

Anti-Hack Measures
That's a bit harsh. No server is entirely hack-proof. There are plenty of things you can do to minimize the danger of being hacked, but the only way it's "100% your fault" is if you went around in-game yelling out "my password is "". Hack me"

Rune mining- worth it or not?
Personally, I powermined iron. I went from 81 to 85 in about 10 days. As for profit, in F2P it's definitely the most profitable skill I've ever seen. In a weekend of Runite mining, I was averaging about one load every hour and made almost 8 million. There were times when I got two loads in under an hour and a half and times when it took almost two hours to get one load. For F2P I'd say it's definitely worth it. For members, I'm pretty sure there are a lot of other ways that might not bring quite as much profit, but do it with more predictability.
-
True quests
Perhaps they're simply trying to add some more "quests" for the F2P'ers without upsetting the members. F2P gets to add to their quest points, and the members don't get upset because it was just a holiday event.

Kaida23's Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero!
I tried to post this last night, but I couldn't get on the forums... I made just over 85k Xp yesterday, but the big news is that I finally got my final random event reward! \ [hide=...for no mere mortal can resist the evil of the Thriller!][/hide]That's right, Zombie Dance was the last emote I needed! I now have all the F2P emotes, except for Give Thanks...I can't believe I missed that one... #-o. Oh, well. Hopefully they're doing another Thanksgiving event this year and I'll be able to get it then. I'd never seen Zombie Dance before, and I couldn't believe it; it was right out of the big dance sequence in "Thriller"! Awesome! Yes, that's right. I'm old enough to remember not only "Thriller", but also a time when Micheal Jackson still mattered. From here on out, all the random event rewards will be strictly Xp items. After all, every little bit helps, eh?

Oh Jagex, Why do you hate my Rubber Chicken? [Lock Please]
If Jagex truly wanted to nerf the rubber chicken, they would have given it away again this year. Very few people, at least in F2P, use the majority of holiday drops anyway. By summertime you'll be hard pressed to find the carrot anywhere. Feel secure in the sense of superiority that being in possession of the original rubber chicken brings you, and lord over all of us little people who suffer from haven't-played-as-long-as-you-itis. Yes, the carrot is a pale imitation. Get over it. The rubber chicken will always be the first and the best.

Holiday Events fun? or used advertisment purposes??
From what I've been seeing on these very forums, 90% of everyone has been whining and moaning about how pathetic and easy this event was anyway. Kind of makes you wonder why Jagex bothers to do the events at all. It does seem suspicious that Jagex would keep using members skills in the holiday events. Perhaps their intention is not to "advertise" to the F2P community, but rather to allow us to experience something that most will never get to. I myself am not a member, and I can assure you that I'm not about to become one just because they put a taste of a member's skill in a holiday event. Frankly, imp catching wasn't that much fun.

Kaida23's Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero!
LEVEL 86!!! :twss: [hide=Mining with a carrot!][/hide]I can hardly believe it! Even with doing the Easter event I still managed to get 100k Xp today! I completely spaced on how close I was to leveling, and agreed to loan my mask to someone who offered me 10k for an hour so I wasn't wearing it for the pic. #-o I don't understand why there's so much complaining about the holiday events. I like doing them. I've always found them to be a nice break from the repetitiveness of training. I really like that we got a new novelty weapon as I missed the rubber chicken when it came out. The emote is really good as well; speeding off in a cloud of smoke is always going to be funny. I was really surprised at how many people were just standing around in the event just saying "what do I do?". The quest wasn't difficult to figure out. Are people really that lazy that they don't even try to figure out what to do? The new event really worked to my advantage today as there was almost no one in the Rimmington mine, even on a nearly full world! I spent most of my time tonight at the NW end of the mine with the four iron rocks. I was there for about an hour when someone else came in and started working on one of the outer two rocks. He took a lot of swings to get it and I figured he would stick to the outer two. Instead he kept trying to get the ones I was working on. :-s He just kept trying, randomly getting one of the others and then coming back. I even asked him why he didn't just keep to the outer two instead of fighting me for the two I was working on, but he didn't reply. He just kept trying in vain to mine the rocks I was working on. He was there for nearly half an hour in total. More than enough time for me to figure him out...he was botting! :o That's right. By changing the speed I mined at I was able to experiment with him. If I got both of them so that they hadn't had a chance to respawn when he stopped swinging his pick, then he moved to one of the others, but if I spaced them out (like I usually do) so that one respawns shortly after mining the other then he would just keep going back and forth between them as the bot kept trying to get the closest one. :wall: I figure the whole time he was there, he only got about four ores. I was able to mine Runite faster than that! Eventually he walked away saying "OMG". It was pretty funny. I'm hoping to make level 87 by the end of the weekend, but Easter tends to get pretty busy so I don't know how much mining I'll be able to get in. I'm off to bed now. Good-night everyone!

Some 'blogger' parent thinks RS makes kids fat
Personally, I've always wondered why it's okay for bloggers to spend hours and hours on their computers but it's not okay for children to do it... :-s This is, obviously, a person that neither plays the game (despite what they claim in the blog) nor has any children. It's been my experience that the people most concerned for "the safety of children" in regards to video/online games either have no children themselves or are the kind of parent that lets the television and the internet raise their kids for them. It's very simple people, (and yes, I've done this with my own kids) you tell them it's time to stop playing and turn the damn thing off! You see, not so hard. Send them out to play or whatever. The kids who are allowed to play video/online games until they gain 100lbs. are being neglected by their parents. Plain and simple. True, but you can sit around doing no exercise reading books as well. How come no one worries about it when kids do that? Because it's seen as being "educational"? The resulting obesity is the same.

April 8th 2009 - Easter 2009
Exactly, constructive criticism. Unfortunately, all most people seem able to spew forth is the same tired "fail", "rubber chicken rip-off", "boring quest" that is coming from everyone else. It's neither criticism nor constructive. It's plain old bellyaching. It wasn't as good as I thought it should be so I'm going to complain to anyone who'll listen without actually saying anything useful! ... :-s Please. No one (not even me) has said "don't" complain, but a lot of people in here seem to think they're entitled to a lot more than their membership fees pay for.

A Nostalgic Look at Holidays Past
While the quest itself was a bit weak this time, I still enjoyed it. Besides, I got a giant carrot I can hit people with! I agree with Punitive_D that last year's Halloween quest/event was the coolest one that I've done so far (although thawing out Santa's sleigh was pretty slick), but I think my favorite reward has to be the Santa outfit we got last Christmas.

I was merely using your post as an example. I apologize for implying that you were the only one complaining. That doesn't change the fact that the holiday events are for everyone, F2P and P2P alike. Also, I didn't mean "free" like you didn't have to pay real money for it, but rather an item that required no in-game currency or even any real effort to obtain. I didn't say you were a kid, merely that all of the complaining going on was making everyone sound like a bunch of children.
