  1. Woot! Woot Woot Woot!!! Level 92 Mining and 50 Runecrafting!!!! :twss: [hide=Check it out!][/hide] I'm now officially half-way to completing my goal and achieving Mining immortality. Thanks to everyone for all the support so far. It's been a long journey but I now have more behind me than in front of me. \ Now as a reward to myself, I'm going to play GOP for a bit and get some Runecrafter's robes. Some nice blue ones to go with my mask! Anyone have suggestions on the best way to start out? Should I find people to play with? Should I go solo, and how do I solo? Doesn't the game need at least two people? French toast or pancakes for breakfast? Decisions, decisions... Also, my blog has now had over 1000 views. I'm really glad everyone has been enjoying reading about my progress. After all, this is as much for you as it is for me. I hope everyone keeps enjoying the climb and will be there to celebrate my ultimate success when I reach 99!
  2. Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging! Good luck with Woodcutting. I look forward to reading about your progress.
  3. Hello again everyone! I promised an update and here it is. As I said in my last post, it's been a busy couple of months. The main reason for this is that I've taken my boys for the summer. Their mother has a history of emotional problems, and we both felt that a couple of months without having to deal with the kids 24/7 would be best for everyone. Right now, the plan is that they will go back with her at the end of August so they don't have to change schools, but that will depend on her condition at the time. They have been eating up a lot of my time. Not that I'm complaining of course. They're awesome and it's always good to come home to people who are happy to see you. The other reason things have been busy is that I've started seeing someone! \ Yes, that's right, a real woman! She's awesome and has been a big help with the boys. She's actually moved in with me so I didn't have to try and find a sitter on two week's notice. You know how it is when you start a relationship; you want to spend every moment together and it leaves no time for anything else like hobbies or time-wasting online games. I will try to be on more frequently from now on. Obviously not to the extent I once was (would anyone stay with someone who spent 3-4 hours a night playing RuneScape?), but I'll try to keep it consistent. I've gotten about 120k Mining Xp since my last post, leaving 40k Mining and 2k Runecrafting to go until I go GOP for a bit. I'm hoping to make it by tonight or tomorrow.
  4. I think this is a great idea and I support it fully. I really like the idea of the Draconic Helm as well, and I have a further suggestion: Maybe Oziach could make a whole set of Draconic armor if we brought him enough pieces of Elvarg hide? After you've gotten the Draconic Helm, Elvarg drops a piece of Necromatic Dragonhide. You take it, a piece of Rune armor (other than the helm, of course) and 100k to Oziach and he crafts it into a piece of Draconic Rune armor. The Draconic Rune armor would have stats about half way between Rune and Dragon and require level 60 defense to wear. One piece of Necromatic Dragonhide per trip. Necromatic Dragonhide and Draconic Rune armor pieces are not tradable. I think this would allow F2P'ers to show off their combat abilities while giving them a bit of a defense boot without upsetting the P2P'ers by making regular Dragon armor obsolete. Making the pieces untradable would prevent high level players from flooding the market with them and allow them to remain a symbol of achievement, like the Fire Cape.
  5. Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging. Good luck with your goals, and congrats on 30 Smithing! =D>
  6. You're off to a great start. I look forward to reading about your progress.
  7. Wow. I can't believe it's been 2 months since my last post. Not to worry Dutch, I haven't been carried off by rock golems. It's been a very busy couple of months and I've had family issues to attend to. Thanks for the concern though. Here's a quick update: [hide=49 RuneCrafting][/hide] I've got about 2k Xp to go until 50 RC, and about 260k 'till 92 Mining. I don't have quite as much free time to play anymore so my Mining progress will not be at the same rapid pace as it once was. I'll explain more in my next post.
  8. Congrats! Welcome to the top 10000. :
  9. Other humans.
  10. Why? Why do you feel you're so much better than the person who got there first that you "gotta go steal other peoples"? Do you have that little respect for your fellow players? How do you feel when it happens to you? Why not simply jump worlds until you find a free spot? There's always a free spot somewhere.
  11. This has been, and unless there's a major revamp always will be, the biggest problem with Mining. It's a gathering skill where only one person can get one item from each spawn (unlike Fishing or Woodcutting). Combine this with a wide-spread lack of respect for other players (especially in F2P :wall:) and you have one of the hardest skills to train to a high level. Once you hit level 45 Mining, the only determining factor when using iron for powermining is your connection speed to the servers. Even if you could one-hit the higher level ores, none of them respawn fast enough to be worth power training on.

  13. Some good and some bad news today, fellow readers of my bloggy goodness. First, the good news: this chronicle of my (only sometimes) tall tales and deeds has moved one step closer to becoming a legendary epic. Loosely translated: my blog is now officially popular! :D As I'm sure you've all noticed, my blog's box in the topic listings now has a flashing square. Thanks to everyone who's posted so far, and a big thanks to Joke33 for reply #75 which has put us over the top! =D> Joke, your trophy will arrive in 6 to 10 business days. Seriously though, thanks everyone for reading and laughing and sharing my journey with me so far. I hope you'll stay with me, and maybe we'll find some more travelers like ourselves along the way to share stories around the campfire with. Second, my illness progresses unabated. Not only unabated, but getting progressively worse. I brought my kids home early yesterday and this morning my fever hit 102F (39.9C). One quick ( yeah, right...more like 3 hours) trip to the hospital emergency room later and it's official: I have a sinus infection! Whee! For the record, I'm not one of those people who runs off to the doctor every time they have the sniffles (hence the wait until the high fever), and I hate people who clog up emergency rooms. Unfortunately, the nearest walk-in clinic is a 45-minute drive away and the hospital is, well, frankly I could throw a baseball and hit it from my backyard. Hardly a tough choice when you can barely see straight. It won't be so bad. I've had sinus infections plenty of times before. A couple of days of antibiotics and I'll be back to work, and in about a week I won't need painkillers anymore. Fortunately, I have a great boss who knows I don't need to, and wouldn't anyway, fake being sick just to get some time off. If I wanted or needed it, I'd just ask. I always feel bad about having to call in sick the day after a long weekend though. Downside is, the pain in my head limits the length of time I can spent looking at a computer screen. Which means this is all I've managed to accomplish since Sunday...[hide=45 RuneCrafting! Woot!][/hide]...and I'm not about to push it any further than I need to. I'm currently writing this within the sweet embrace of the numbing sleepy-time effects of NyQuil before I go to bed. "NyQuil we love you, you giant f'ing Q! So with 500k Mining Xp left until the halfway point, and 40k RuneCrafting Xp until I can get my Runecrafter's Robes I'm essentially sidelined for the next couple of days. Hopefully I can get back up to speed by the end of the week.

Apoplectic. It means to exhibit symptoms similar to a stroke, or to be greatly exited or angered. I use it when describing how upset someone has gotten.
  15. I've run Adblock since I began using Firefox and I've always seen the ads when playing. It's the same ads I see when I run the RuneScape Windows client. Maybe it's because I've never told Adblock to block the ads from RuneScape/Jagex.
  16. Thanks, I'm glad you've been enjoying it. I was mining rune ess so that I would have it to work on my RuneCrafting. Certainly not because it was fast or good Xp . And speaking of RC... [hide=Level 40!
  17. Yes, they do. The problem is how they have been going about staging their protests. The Tamil people in Canada enjoy many freedoms that they did not have in Shi Lanka. Unfortunately, they have been abusing those freedoms and that is the problem. They are drawing attention to their cause, yes, but I feel that they are inadvertently hurting that cause by going about it in this fashion. Any person in this country has the right to protest anything they like. You apply for a permit, you hold your protest in the established area, and you can protest that Hitler wasn't awarded the Order of Canada if you want. The problem with the recent Tamil protests (and yes, I know there is a difference between the Tamil people and the Tamil Tigers (which is a recognized terrorist organization in Canada)) is that they have not been holding their protests properly. A few weeks ago they blocked off several blocks of Wellington St. in downtown Ottawa, right in front of Parliament Hill (ironically enough, Parliament Hill is where protests are supposed to be held). Last week they blocked off the Gardiner Expressway in Toronto, holding hundreds, if not thousands, of people hostage for several hours. That's right, I said "hostage". The people stuck on the Gardiner Expressway were held there against their will by people who had no right to do so and could not leave. It may not have been at gunpoint, but it sure seemed like hostage-taking to me. Regardless of what they are protesting for or about, the Tamils are going about it in entirely the wrong way and are only stirring up public dissent. If they are looking for support for their cause, this is not the way to do it.
  18. I'd first heard about this about three weeks ago when she started the petition. To be honest, I was shocked that that this kind of thing was allowed to happen. If I had cheated, plagiarized (which is just another form of cheating) or not handed in my assignments I would have gotten a 0. Heck, If I had cheated, depending on the teacher, I would have been dismissed from the course entirely. I'm glad that people are still talking about this. Maybe now Premier McGuinty (who's wife is a teacher, by the way) will remove this ridiculous policy. Currently in the province of Ontario, it is practically impossible to fail a student at any level up to the end of high school. The provincial mandate is that, regardless of the offense, students are not to be given failing grades for incomplete assignments and are to be given every opportunity to redo it. This is what happens when nearly half the population of a province lives in one centralized area (Ontario's population is aprox. 11.4 million, with 5.5 million living in the GTA). The politicians focus more on making that one area happy than doing what is best for the province as a whole.
  19. They've raised you as their child, with love. They are your goddamn parents. Amen, brother! =D> "Any fool with a [bleep] can make a baby, but only a real man can raise his children." ~ Boyz N Tha Hood
  20. Good luck on getting 99 Hunter! You're already half-way there! =D> I look forward to reading your progress reports.
  21. WOOT! I made it! :twss: Level 91![hide=91 Mining][/hide]...and all I had to do was grind for like 7 hours today. :? Okay, I didn't have to but I wanted to get at least one Mining level this week. Besides, after the week I just had I needed a nice, relaxing day sitting on the couch. I also did a bit of RuneCrafting[hide=37 RuneCrafting][/hide]I've moved over to the water altar for a bit, just for a change of scenery. I'd like to make it to 92 Mining by the end of next weekend, hopefully with at least 45 RuneCrafting.
  22. Thanks for the kind words everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates, but I've gotten very little done again this week. Well, RuneScape-wise anyway. Remember the 14-hour job I mentioned last time? I had to go back to it twice more this week! At least the problems weren't my fault, and the owner sent a very nice letter to their corporate office about all our hard work. Yesterday was my son's 5th birthday party, which I helped my ex setup for, throw and clean up from. She throws excellent parties but there's always a huge mess. Oh well, at least everyone had a good time. This week wasn't a complete loss though. I did get this:[hide=Level 35 Runecrafting][/hide] I was hoping to be most of the way to level 92 by today, but alas it was not to be. Since I don't have the kids this weekend, I should be able to grind out the last 195k Xp and reach 91 Mining today. Here's hoping today will be a nice, productive one! :D
  23. Congrats on 86 Fishing! Keep up the good work! I've heard monkfish are the best fishing Xp. I'll be watching and cheering for you.
  24. yea yea...but remember, i am constrained to a 6/1/2010 quit date I thought the world was supposed to end on December 12, 2012. What's with the time limit?
  25. Harsh. I only ever took part in one tournament and that happened to me as well. If only my pension fund brought in that kind of return.
