  1. Merchanting was hardly as harmful as it is now. Merchants pre-GE bought an item from someone selling it for a low price and sold it to another person at a higher price. Same basic principle today but with one huge difference. When a merchant did that in free trade it didn't actually effect the price of an item. The item's price was kind of an accepted value to what players thought it was worth. If I remember correctly whips were at one point generally accepted to be about 1.5m. Merchants would find people selling them for that and go back and resell them for 1.7m. People bought them if they really needed them but it in no way effected the generally accepted price of the item to be 1.5m. Prices would adjust the same for updates and things but they were never set prices. You could buy them for what you and others thought they were worth. Not based on what the GE thought they are worth. This would take manipulating clans out of the picture. You can't seriously expect a clan to buy say dragon bones to a point that the generally accepted street value is very high because they bought them all. It would be a massive undertaking to buy out an item without the GE.
  2. OK thanks. Can anyone tell me what it would display on the credit card bill if I paid through paypal by credit card(it's my credit card but my mom still checks it... I don't think she wants to buy membership either).
  3. Well that really makes my decision harder. Thanks.
  4. It's very possible that GE flipping will be made substantially easier with free trade. Imagine...no more volume limits or 4 hour buy/sell limit. You could leave a buy offer at the low end of an item's spread then a sell offer at the opposite end and watch them fill simultaneously. Or it might not work like that at all and make flipping harder, who knows. I think by free trade they meant the way it used to be. No trade limits between players. The GE didn't exist when free trade existed. Yeah, I think the GE will still have volume limits, just no more price windows. If you want to buy large bulk, you can still do player to player trades. You're probably right. I'm hoping they get rid of the GE to be completely honest. The convenience is nice the price manipulators are not. I guess it's just because I've played without the GE before that I think the annoyance of price manipulators outweighs the convenience.
  5. I have a couple questions: 1) If I buy membership for an account and decide I don't want to use it for that account can I change to another account? In other words transfer membership to another account. 2) If I buy a one year membership and cancel it in say the second month do I get some sort of money back? Just questions out of curiosity. If you're going to reply with some remark along the lines of "why pay for a year if you're not sure" go away. You're not helpful.

  7. Fix'd. Honestly this vote is perhaps the worst thing to happen. It has split the community directly in 2. Those PKers and old school people with rose tinted specs who think they want it back, and those that are crying out for fairness and a No vote. Tbh I love it how when I made a topic on RSOF the other day about the vote being pathetic that all the PKers tried to justify it by saying they never get updates and are basically JaGeX's [female dogs]. Maybe they are and the PVM community do get the better deal out of it all. But this is a completely game changing decision that only works backwards from where they are now. Personally I never played old wildy, I didn't even have the internet until 2 years ago as parents didn't want it, or need it. But from everything I hear from my friends who played with old wildy and free trade and from here I can only see it being bad and quite frankly as someone said in one of the very early pages - being the death knell for runescape showing that JaGeX have lost the war against bots and RWTers. I also find it funny that so far even though there's been perhaps every 7 out of 10 topics on the RSOF against it, no one and I repeat NO ONE has gone so far to say - We pay we say, unlike the PKers who continually tell us to shut up. Free trade yes, I'd be fine with, it'd be nice. Old Wildy? Get stuffed. I lose all shreds of respect for JaGeX if this vote goes through. Don't base your opinions on other people's opinions of things you've never done.
  8. The only reason I want free trade back is the possibility of getting rid of the GE. It's a nice convenience but I hate price manipulating clans that boost the price of an item to extraordinarily high prices. Before the GE real merchanting didn't involve price manipulating. You just bought something cheap and sold it high. Same principle that some merchants use today but price manipulating clans cannot use their method without the GE. Honestly runescape was better back with free trade and the old wilderness. No graves was fun too. It added a sense of real risk to the game. With graves today you don't need to worry about anything. I'll keep saying this, if someone is addicted enough to buy gold with real money let them waste their money away. I don't care it's only hurting them in the long run. Sooner or later they'll find out the real world requires money too and if you blow a bunch of it on buying items in a game you'll realize how stupid you really are. The only thing that bothered me in the old Runescape was bots and while bringing back free trade may increase the number of people trying to bot I'm pretty confident in how much jagex has evolved in bot prevention techniques. But I think jagex will find an excuse not to give us free trade or the old wilderness back. I really don't think they want to. I just have a feeling no real facts.
  9. Oh I completely missed that section when I was looking for what section to put this in.... Whoops.
  10. So I've been trying to get it working. Very unsuccessfully. I've figured out why it won't work but I can't fix the problem. I know it is because the java you download in the software center is version 20. You need to update to version 23 which I'm guessing is a new release(?).I went to the java website and found the download. It has instructions on how to install it. I've tried following those instructions multiple times. No matter how I do it the java website tells me I'm still running the old version. Has anyone figured out how to make it work? By the way if this is in the wrong place sorry.
  11. Wait dragon defender??? I thought a few months wasn't too long but apparently it is...

    Jagex Blows

I am fully aware that this is my fault. I was venting. Mainly because Jagex has made it so hard to recover your password even when you know 90% of the questions they ask. You should read things instead of automatically assuming that it is a stupid topic. Or just don't post at all. I actually wonder why you found it necessary to post here if you said that you only read the title and nothing else. If you think you don't like something you should just move along instead of spewing your nonsense without thought. If anyone is wondering how it's going(I'm sure almost nobody is but I'm bored) I just discovered that I can still use my old name before I changed the display name(Robert r1) and it asks for different things. It now asks for payment descriptions and a few other things. I've submitted an appeal under that name and I am currently waiting on the result. I have a good feeling about this one but I'm not getting my hopes up after 5 failed attempts before. EDIT: It worked!!! Hell yeah, I'm back.
  13. Agreed. In the amount of time you spend trying to collect talon beast charms(which he even said it was all about luck) and the crimson charms required chances are it isn't worth the effort.
  14. Did you take into account the time it takes to collect the crimson charms too.
  15. People hate when you train firemaking past 99 even more. I wear the cape because I find it amusing to see annoying people make fun of me completely disregarding that they don't even have a skill past 85. Ignore list is your friend by the way.

    Jagex Blows

Oddly enough the only thing I have written down are the recovery questions. It seems that they keep denying it for creation details.... Kind of hard to remember that when you created your account 6 years ago. I don't know where I would do that.
  17. I voted yes. I enjoyed the game much more when it didn't have dedicated pk worlds with some obnoxious system to figure out what you get from a kill. I also enjoyed being able to trade as much as I want to anyone I want. Also if someone is addicted enough to spend real money on runescape items let them be that stupid. It never effected me(selfish? yes but I don't care). Personally I think Jagex is just fooling us. They said they don't know what number will convince them. My guess is no matter what number we reach they won't be satisfied...
  18. When you're like 16-17 you try to deny playing it when friends ask you. Eventually there's a point when you just say f it and don't care who knows.... They'll just have to get over it.

    Jagex Blows

So here's my short story. I quit a few months ago because I had better things to do. Now I'm bored so I figured I'd play this a little bit. Not to my surprise I have forgotten my password. I probably just changed it and didn't write it down to prevent myself from playing again too because I even used software to find files deleted in my recycling bin and restore them but I didn't find any files that have the right password(awesome run on sentence?). Anyway this is why I'm mad: I thought I could just go to password recovery and enter my recovery questions(at least I know all of them), previous passwords, and other info. Well it turns out if you don't answer every single damn box correctly they will not give you your password. I am 100% sure I got all of the recovery questions right. I know at least 2 of my previous passwords(it asks for 3), and most of the other details. I appealed and I got an email saying the reason it was denied was the previous passwords. Ok I'll try again. Next appeal denied for: Creation details. Ok appeal again, denied: Previous passwords... Well jagex you officially blow. Apparently I can fill in every single box but one and not get my damn password. Oh and I appealed again with more likely to be accurate details like 6 hours ago without a response. The first three appeals only took 2 hours to receive an email.
  20. Well I'm back, kind of.......... I was going to start playing a little bit again after I quit back around April. But I can't remember my password and jagex is being annoying with the password recovery system. Kind of blows but it might be good for me I don't know. So now I'm trying to decide if I want to start a new account or try to figure out my password some more. I have like 3 other decent accounts too but I forgot the password for them too(they all have the same one I know that for sure).... So there you have it, I may or may not be back. By the way the thing making me even try to keep figuring out my password is the possibility of the old wilderness and free trade return!!!!!!!!!! I want it so bad. Don't care if people buy things with real money. If they're that addicted that's their problem. Also I made an account name "Robert Beans" if any of my old friends want to contact me(Sorry it's been so long I don't remember any names!).
  21. Do what someone earlier said. Buy items that make sets in your POH. They fill up a lot of bank space and are easy to get out of your bank when you need the space. Things like h.a.m., graahk, kyatt, desert camo, wood camo, etc.
  22. Your story about how you started is very scary how similar it is to how I started. I started in 6th grade I'm 17 almost 18 now. I was addicted to some extent how you were but not nearly as bad. Luckily your story stops becoming similar to mine when you started thinking about runescape in class and making excuses to not hang out with friends. Good luck with life now it's much more fun then runescape and never too late to start.
  23. Just gonna add that the +140 range bonus is only after you add the longbow sight(a reward from dungeoneering) to the magic longbow. The longbow itself has not been updated. I'm not even sure if anyone has the longbow sight yet either.
  24. Planting 5 maple trees a day saves you 5 herb runs. Assuming no herb ever gets diseased that's an extra 375 minutes, more realistically about 400-410. he has to wait for whatever level he's getting. If he really wants the level I'd say saving 375 minutes a day would be worth the 160k. But still 2 herb runs a day would make that money back and still profit. That isn't time wasted btw that's time saved.
