20-Aug-2013 - Divination
We never asked for an old school skill - Jagex just decided to give us one. Also there is a middle ground between xp rates many deem to high (eg warbands) and xp rates that are just too dam low eg 10xp an action for lvl 40-50

Looking through the skill guide it seems like the 5 or 6th Portent of Passage (30 bright energy) is enough for any dg door if you have 99 at +6. Given how common the energy seems portents of passage seem like they may be a worthwhile extra even to speed dging since you can make them on the fly faster than pots and they immediately open a door if they can boost u far enough.

The xp rates seem atrocious so far, they just aren't scaling nicely and it is an issue made worse by it being a flat rate for 10 whole levels. In like level 1-10 its pretty good, 10-20 its acceptable. 20-30 it's like really? this is a bit slow. 30-40 is like omg too slow.

11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports
True all the current adventurers are good at what they do, but nothing says they HAVE to be good at it since the reason they come to our ports is respect for our talents and heck little of what we do have even suggests they are that talented in the specific skill given for the most part. Also do we even know they are all that good at the skills at large? The Whaler is an awesome whaler but what about all the other forms of fishing? Have we ever been shown anything that says he's got any skill at all in that? The Missionary is sent to spread the faith, but are we ever truly shown its because of his devotion? If anything it seems like they simply wanted the battle mad lunatic out of the way. Plus is prayer level even necessary to be devout? The Assassin is good at being an assassin, but since when does slayer teach us that skill? The Biologist is off to make a name for herself with research but little of what she does seems to have any bearing on the potion mixing talents of herblore. The Occultist has magical prowess but have we ever seen or heard anything of her actually crafting runes? The only one where we have been given a direct correlation of the skill as a whole is the Convict and even then he's been caught and convicted and is running away to start again, so is he really that good?

Depends how fast they fix it; afterall updates are rarely before midday so you've got 3 1/2 hours minimum yet.

11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports
Also the port adventurer level requirements are not anything to do with the adventurers skill all dialogues in the bar outright say that they came because they recognise your skill in the field. A divination adventurer could easily be a utter noob chasing down new frontiers who came to us recognising our skills in divination.

22-Jul-2013 - RuneScape 3!
Why would he bring Jadinkos? We are only after magical wards. Magical protection doesn't necessarily mean wards. The Jadinkos are magical creatures. He very well could bring the non-mutated adult jadinkos for protection. Magical protection does imply spells and since when are Jadinko's magical? They are just living vine creatures, perfectly normal for Gielinor without magic.

Runescape Dying? [Discussion/Observation]
That would certainly be an interesting way to go, having it as a members feature but would it be worth it? The point of expanding to new markets is to get new users and a game built around freemium format relies on the demo to grab those customers. Not to mention the previously raised issue to do with graphics, updates etc.
-
Runescape Dying? [Discussion/Observation]
The trouble is whether you slap the new fangled 'freemium' term on it or not, a free portion of the whole game that has some form of limits in place, such as certain skills and areas excluded, is a demo of the full game experience. Freemium is just terminology for a popularised format of demo whereby the demo is much more expansive and complete in its own right than other games might offer. Just because it uses the freemium model and just because you can play free to play endless does not make it any less a demo at heart.

Do equipment stats not matter anymore?
They do still matter, the system has just changed. Player armour and players work on the 3 sided triangle: Melee armour is weak to mage and strong ranged and so on. When looking at the defence stat 100% is given to the style you are strong too (so in melees case ranged) ~66% to the same style (melee for melee) and ~33% to the style you are weak too (So Mage for melee) When it comes to weapons each one is bound to a set style (crush, stab, slash, thrown, bolt, arrow or magic [which is air, earth, fire or water]) If you are fighting a player only the class matters (mage melee or ranged) When fighting monsters the specific style matters you lose a small amount of power using right class wrong style (eg slash not crush) and you lose more using the wrong class entirely. However with monsters currently in-game and their stats T80 weapons you can ignore style as there is no notable difference within a class and with T90 you can use w/e you like. Other than boss monsters every single monster has a weakness.

Future Update Discussions
Odd indeed, I guess it was not the usual pre-skill down time then - perhaps some over eager youngster sorting out normal routine maintenance did not realise how important tomorrow is. That or update is delayed.
-
Future Update Discussions
Loyalty went down on the 16th plus there's always been maintenance the morning of a skill release.

I don't think they really do that they pre-skill maintenance normally exposes the new hiscore category and large swathes of the knowledge base that they don;t like to put up invisibly early cause we too good at url guessing and often found stuff early for prior skills. Plus I think part of it is also running through all the stored account data to add the new variable to store the new skill to avoid crashes.

Resize the chat window
Click and drag same as all the interfaces in the new system. Only limit is it cannot overlap other interfaces.

Runescape Dying? [Discussion/Observation]
I haven't U-turned at all; nor was I trying to argue about how it would work. My only point, if you go back a few posts, was I disagreed with your case for f2p being unworkable on consoles as they charge for everything because demos and free games do exist. Prior debate already covered the fact the whole reason the market was interesting was because it lacked games of that model and some points of whether that could work. Again my only point was your case that F2P can't exist was flawed as there is free content out there on the consoles. Whether the game as a whole, due to format, works is a separate point.
-
Runescape Dying? [Discussion/Observation]
I'm not saying there are no demos with limits or that free games top the charts. I am merely saying that free games exist and that there are demos without limits other than you cannot play the whole thing, which is what F2P rs is. Your argument still does not hold up as the fact is the sort of demo that Runescape model would fit does exist; the fact others have limits and free stuff doesn't top the charts does not alter this. Yes Runecape F2P is larger than the average demo in terms of content, but guess what? Runescape P2P is larger than the average game offering demos in terms of content too.
-
Runescape Dying? [Discussion/Observation]
Not all demos are time limited, DS is the only one where I have actively come across time limits. Xbox and Ps have all just been smaller portions of the game as a whole to play as much as you like kinda exactly like f2p is to p2p. And not all free games come from paying money elsewhere, they have done summer promos and tie-in events that give out free stuff just for plain free. Xbox arcade has plenty of free titles and playstation like a year ago had a whole fb thing where u could get a code a week for free games for nothing. Your argument is fundamentally flawed in that most of the consoles have demos/games that are entirely free and entirely unlimited in use but are just smaller versions of paid for counterparts which is EXACTLY what runescape f2p is.

Runescape Dying? [Discussion/Observation]
^Cool story bro. Now I'll just Brb whilst I go and play any number of the hundreds of free demos offered on ps xbox wii and ds or maybe even some of the free games they gave out in promos and such.

Mod Jane and various other sources have all been saying they 20th for several weeks; so it seems to be tomorrow for sure unless any last minute delays hit. As for divine shards and divination - no more than any other skill gives outside of BoL. Divination is about collecting energy.

Avatar: The Legend of Korra
But the other groups weren't technological savages, the guys at the air temple were making the gliders and airships etc. The earth kingdom city had gates and automated delivery shoot things. The northern water tribe had some advanced things in their icy city too. Plus we don't even know what is out there beyond Republic City at the moment so we cannot judge. Given the technological era one would expect rural life to still be quite primitive in contrast to a handful of cities that are leading progress. Also is not the big city and huge technological leaps a Japanese/Chinese theme? It is what they are known for even historically. Is not martial arts style fighting contests an oriental theme? Is not the idea of the monks at the air temple another one? Is not the stealthy ninja-like police force a japanese theme? Personally I find the whole thing very well done. To of 'gone in a different direction' just for the sake of upholding some tribal primitive style in a world that has not moved forward at all would've been boring - we've been there, done that.

Also bonus ones currently don't count to your 3k - this includes champions and all yellow node tears. If you use that fc for yellows you can get like 6000+ a day AND you'll stay at x5 meaning 15 tears per grab.

Avatar: The Legend of Korra
They were making huge technological leaps in TLA. Hot air balloons, giant drills, submarines, and other things that I'm probably forgetting. I don't think it'd be very good or believable if technology stayed at a standstill for over 80 years. I didn't particularly like submarines, but hot air balloons are pretty basic. The other stuff like drills, tanks, submarines and everything were strictly military technology and were only in experimental use by the fire nation. I mean, I understand that it makes sense for technology to advance, I won't argue that. But I feel like it detracts a lot from the fantasy feel and the setting of the story. How long until Korra has a cell phone o_O I don't see your argument most primitive (medieval, tribal etc) fantasy worlds operate under the assumption that they are going to progress technologically in a similar fashion to the real world eventually with some twist drawn from their particular fantasy. The Avatar world has progressed into an industrial revolution type-era with a steampunk vibe drawing on bending powers and steampower to do things. To me it'd feel wrong if they world hadn't advanced like this - the seeds of it were there in all 3 major tribes/cities in TLA and they've had like 80-90 years of peace to develop this further. If they hadn't come so far it'd feel wrong I mean just look how far real life has come. We only got steam-power in like the late 1700s-1800s and mains electricity like late 1800s-1900s; TV only appeared in the 1900s, computers and gaming we are talking like 1960s-1970s, the internet and mobile phones is like 1990s. The technology ball starts rolling and just gets faster, for near a century of development from a world where these steam powered devices and bending power systems existed it just HAD to quite advanced or it would make no sense. If we take TLA as sort of mid-1700s tech then it makes sense for Korra to have mid 1800s tech I wouldn't expect her to see any truly modern tech that'd need to be mid 1900s aka a generation later so whoever follows on from her.

"Yellow resource thing?". Is that the Guthix's life energy stuff? No it's when the 'unstable nodes' go yellow instead of orange and opposed to damage you get triple rate of tears.
