2007 - Old School RuneScape... You Vote! - [It's Here!]
Yeah people trying to tell people to vote even if they do not want it because it won't "harm our game" need to stop it. The whole purpose of the vote is to gauge how many ACTUALLY SERIOUSLY WANT to play 07scape servers - if you have no intention or desire to play it you should NOT vote for it just to inflate numbers to allow those who do want it to get it cheaper and placate them.

product placement as an alternative to microtransactions?
Full out product placement would be MUCH worse than microtransactions imo. Yes what we have went against an ethos they once had, but at least it fits into the game world, product placements would stick out like a sore thumb; besides product placements are only a proven revenue method (on a large scale) in TV/Video content not gaming and they are kinda dated now. Microtransaction is how the modern gaming world works, it just is. I mean WoW expansions, sims expansions, DLC for console games, avatar outfits, item stores etc. they are the staple of all the big games these days.

Considering back then RS did not require email addresses and even now they only use it for loyalty points and recovery even if they did send an email out odds are 99.9% of those long gone quitters would not get it.

Mmm this unfounded 'we are a majority' insistance don't half remind me of wildy removal where pkers insisted they were the majority and the core of the game yet RS main site polls about playstyle showed that pkers were one of the smaller minorities even back then compared to skillers, pvmers and 'do a bit of everything' players.

They didn't say that! They said they changed backup system in October 2007 so Aug 2007 was the last functional backup they had from then. One would assume with disc space and such in mind the 'new back-up' system combined a couple of things that meant there was no Oct 07 ones: 1) Predominantly partial back-ups eg only backing up the code segments removed/altered for most updates 2) Not keeping ancient back-ups eg only store back-ups for the last 1-3 years to conserve storage space on the basis that in a forward moving game industry there is no real purpose to keeping old code once the update has been in place long enough to be 100% certain it does not need to be rolled back.

Rests on the assumption that every vote received will translate into a subscription. [hide][/hide] Well every vote received SHOULD (in a perfect world where people don't vote without really thinking their feelings through) result in a subscription since the whole point of the vote is to register interest.

I think they are probably thinking if we do this and it fails at least we have shut the idiots up as they had their dream and saw that it failed. If it's a success it'll be more money in our pocket seeing as it is all but inevitable that it won't hit higher enough votes to be a free extra given member numbers vs votes needed.

The way I read it was, if you get <249,999 that membership fee will stand. So you better hope your 300k is pretty solid. Trust me there is enough. Don't forget plenty of people will purchase membership once again just to vote. (Like myself) This relies upon the assumption that many who quit still lurk around as they have not been able to move on, opposed to them being long gone and oblivious to rs developments. It also relies on the assumption that they are willing to spend $5 just to vote on the off chance it *might* get them back a game they quit playing. Both these premises to me seem flimsy at best, downright ludicrous at worst.

This relies on the assumption that enough of the community comes back for merching and staking to be what it was and in that is the crucial flaw of many peoples nostalgia. It hinges on not just the game being back but the community too and unfortunately the later is highly unlikely to be restored (other than perhaps for a short initial burst or checking it out) which will make it a very different game from what people think they are getting back.

No, they most likely just hire more people just for the 07 servers, so it doesn't take any resources from the main game. True but hiring more staff = more expenditure. More expense = less profit to reinvest into the main game. Therefore it is taking resources away indirectly.

By my estimation this is roughly where spambots end and real players begin: http://services.runescape.com/m=hiscore/a=569/overall.ws?table=0&category_type=0&page=35790 Meaning there's about 787,000 accounts (ignoring obvious spam bots) that can possibly vote, so it'd be a close run thing for sure. Knock off a few thousand more for inactives and other bots and we prob looking at like 760-780k actual possible voters; then considering want it vs do not care/do not want I'd imagine anything over 600k votes (to be generous) is unlikely, realistically I'd be quite surprised if it got past the 300k region.

People are just going to sell the 2007 items for current game gp. Oh well it'll be nice (if this happens) to see 07 scape implode in a shitstorm of RWT, botting, dead servers and whining about how it's not what people wanted (even though they asked for it) and we can just sit back and say "Told you so"

The only thing I know of to do with Meg being 'missing' is: If you just unlocked port she's over in the corner near the Shipwright not near the portal.

I see one floor with this: Despite being members only unlike the free trade vote it's a setup of 'vote if you want ignore if you don't' which quite obviously will give very biased statistics. I mean so what if 750,000 people vote for it if there's 1,250,000 who abstained because their view was 'no'

Skillers Aura
What he said. I'm not much of a PvP'er these days - but the risk element is there for a reason. The trouble is in the old days people who WANTED risk would go to the wildy, people who did not would steer clear; even when a few odd skill bits were dumped in the majority had a sense of honour which meant un-armed skillers were left alone whilst the fighting was focussed on other pkers. Now pking is all but dead and those there are take pleasure in attacking un-armed skillers who pose no challenge or threat to them simply to annoy them. I agree wildy should be dangerous, but it should not be an artificial danger created by forcing unarmed skillers in there for honourless trolls to slaughter; it should be by finding ways to actually get pking going again.

I kinda thought tht about the combat stance too; why can't the 'combat stance' only occur when 'in combat' (aka in a tick where u r hitting or being hit) cause atm u just get this weird post-combat lag where u move like a weirdo.

Sadly Jagex has never been able to make any sort of long term plans, best example of this is the Biohazard quest line; been over a decade since it was started and only one new quest in the last 7 years, with absolutely zero signs of ever intending to be be finished. The Elemental Workshop series was supposed to be concluded in the first half of 2012 and have reached Elemental Workshop 7/8/9, and has obviously been forgotten. I don't recall any promises of EW being finished in early 2012 and the link you cited doesn't back that up either (it only confirms 3-5 more parts)

That's still simple, round down answer at each stage. 1) X*1.01=x 2) Repeat 1 1-3 more times subject to number of totems using x instead of X 3) x*1.Y 4) x*1.1 X is base resource. x is the previous answer. Y is the merchant percentage so .3 for Jade So, for example, a 3 plate mission with 4 totems, merchant and FOTS: 3*1.01= 3.03= 3 3*1.01= 3.03= 3 3*1.01= 3.03= 3 3*1.01= 3.03= 3 3*1.3= 3.9= 3 3*1.1= 3.3= 3 You can pretty much ignore totems on everything other than 100+ missions tbf as 1% of <100 is always <1 therefore rounds down. But to give another example say 600 Jade mission (assuming cherry tree) 600*1.01=606 606*1.01=612 612*1.01=618 618*1.01=624 624*1.3=811 811*1.1=892

"x*1.1=" There is your calculator for FOTS type it into google or a calculator replacing x with the resource number.

Well, if you consider that the full armor lasts 12 hours in real time combat and takes 2.1m to repair, that's still less than 200k an hour in repairs. Realistically, the only places you'd need the defense are going to make you atleast 3m an hour, thus the repair cost is quite negligible. Also, in terms of efficiency, the armor will cost you very little hours/gp to obtain. The only thing i can see people having a problem with is that it's a t85 armor that's worse than t80 armor, but that's only a problem of perception- higher tired things don't always need to be universally better than the lower tier equivalents- and we have quite a few examples(hex, sigil shields, chaotic maul). If you also consider, as with all degradations, combat time is counted per monster and most highly profitable places involve being attacked by several things at once then that 12 hours vanishes very very quickly. Eg in a GWD boss room you are looking at about 3 hours real time use because 4 attackers means 4 minutes of degrade per 1 minute of real time. And that is 3 actual hours, not the same as Nex or Barrows gear where it's 3 hours of time spent directly in combat it's soaking up several minutes of down-time where ur locked in combat stance after everything is dead. I mean sure when you math it out the 10 hours of a Nex set vs 4 enemies boils down to 2.5 hours real-time use; but then when you factor in it not degrading when everything is dead realistically you are probably looking at 3-4 hours of actual time before it hits 0. As for your examples of lower tier being better, they are all rather flawed comparisons imo. Hex is a dg item. Dg purposefully does not fully conform to the over-world rules. As seen in the fact you can use any of the three styles and still pretty much own everything. Not to mention it is a 98 Ranged bow with a special effect vs Sagitarian being 99 Ranged so they are supposed to be pretty darn close and the Hex effect just tipes the scales. 'Sigil Shields' - Yes they do break tier slightly in terms of pure defence req. But it's only really because of the special effect they hold. Plus one must consider they are a 75 def & 75 pray shield vs 80 def only shields in the dg ones. So in many ways the double req allows them to be more than just a tier 75 item. Chaotic Maul - I dunno what you're one about with this one. I was under the impression Drygore was holding value as it entirely destroys things atm making it better than the cmaul; but even if I'm wrong there it's not really a fair comparison since 2h and 1h/dual are know to currently be different ballparks and seeing as there is no higher 2h crush wep it's fine if cmaul pwns it. Besides can you really blame anyone for having the perception that higher tier should be better when Jagex have repeatedly specifically said a selling point of EoC is everything is tiered and those tiers get progressively better.

Wow that degrade thing sucks so bad. Serious if you wanna keep your precious nex gear so brilliant Jagex stop titting around: Make pop armours into normal degrading perfectly acceptable tier 85 gear; throw in some other easier to get than nex t80 gear (maybe drag sub/arma/bandos up?) and turn nex gear into t90.

No, you absolutely shouldn't. Assuming you have enough time, the 3rd ship will be useless until the scythe(4th island) , and by then you'll easily get the needed bamboo(you still get 1-2 ac missions a day and can always use merchants on them). I don't think you ever really have to turn back for resources when you do things right. Anyway, i read somewhere that story missions give no distance. Can anyone confirm that and can anyone tell if the story missions have tiers or they will always pop up for the region you are focusing on? Planning on skipping all the story missions until pincers, but i'd need to know if that would make those missions harder to do later on. Story missions have tiers--they aren't affected by the focused region. Only affect on story regions have is each adventurer gets 1 instalment unlocked per region unlocked.

Burning Vyre Corpse's..
Yes it still makes a big impact on the accuracy and damage output of the weapons, definitely worth doing.

Did they not say, however, before that "If you have a slayer task in the tower and get a contract before hand..." Ergo the slayer xp throughout is coming from being on a normal slayer task, not from the contract.
-
Future Update Discussions
I'm gonna guess No. When Jagex says 'combat xp' it usually means: att, str, def, hp, ranged, mage with summ and pray sometimes tagged on. Also I doubt these contracts offer slayer xp for the kills either.
