11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports
Yeah, I would have liked something more creative than just dumping more guys into one slot. If I had to redo the Pincers crew I would have gone with: Morale crew - Heritage Geisha Combat crew - Ashihama Cannoneer Seafaring crew - Yamada Shipguide You can try to imagine the Travelling Band as Queen, though. Lol. Totally agree it seems stupid to reuse like 3 different images all the way through (with a few extras in the Arc) then just totally poop all over that structure and system of colour hats with the last crew - which are kinda wtf? anyway because none of them ACTUALLY sound like useful crew in the names. I mean sure some others like 'farcrier' are made-up but they sound sort of ship-esque.

Best Possible Non-Degrading Magic Gear?
This not entirely true. While it's true that you can't Void everything as you once could(largely due to them nerfing Void), Defense has diminishing returns, For instance, if you are hunting fairly high level bosses, you can't run around in Void as effectively as you could, since it has the defensive statistics of Mithril armour or something. However, with level 70 Gear(Barrows/Gwars) you can defend yourself almost as well as level 80/85 armour. Level 80/85 armour obviously has much more defense because of the exponential curve, but you really don't need that much defense for most things (including bosses), it's very much overkill. Erm Did I say anything about wanting uber max defence? I just said that in EoC you generally do want defence, opposed to the rubbish defence offered by Void. Plus given the qualification of 'non-degrading' diminishing returns is hardly an issue since it traps him at level 70 tier max ruling out Ganodermic, Virtux and Seasinger.

RuneScape: Old and New
Because the mass of people after this (who have been at it for years) and the petitions and such about it (which no doubt prompted the news post) are predominantly not just aiming for a pre-eoc server they are aiming for 2006 style server because in all the nostalgic haze they all mark that as the 'golden age' before everything went wrong.

RuneScape: Old and New
The thing is about the arguement of dirrecting people onto the project is, we dont know Jagex' game plan. Nor do we know what they can spare. There could be developers working on small projects that dont NEED to be in the game for a few months. These things can easily be worked around. Whilst Yes I understand its not so simple. But its no so hard either. They're not going to pull people off their cash cows (sof and solomon) to try to revive a dead one. They've already stated that both of them allow them to expand the game far faster than had they not been there, much more than could be said about rs2006. Very true they said in several QAs etc thanks to extra profit/reinvesting profits they doubled the Runescape team size in the past year - and that doesn't even take in account the new hires in the California fb game office, Transformers MMO or Ace of Spades.

01-Feb-2013 Squeal of Fortune: Cash Bags
Actually, coinshare is more of a cash sink. It gives you instant money at 95% GE price, but then puts the item up on the GE at 100% price. When the person buys the item, it takes out the money he bought the item for, therefore taking out more money than it brought in. Only a very slight money sink seeing as the net difference is only 5% of the value. Sure on 200m items that's like 10m, but relative to the 190m 10m is a pitance.

RuneScape: Old and New
The point people seem to be unable to take on with nostalgia and 2006scape: Yes you might replay Spyro or w/e other old game because you are nostalgic for it and love it and you enjoy it because as a one player self-contained game it is identical to what you played before. Sure some bits are a bit worse than nostalgia made them but other than that it is the same. With an mmorpg like RS what makes the game is about 50:50 split between the actual game content and the products of the community (which is defined by their attitudes and play styles). NOTHING can bring back what the community was, it has changed since then and this is why that nostalgic bubble will burst and a good 90% of people who say they want it will lose interest. No matter what way you spin it a huge part of our feelings towards the game and memories and experience of the game are formed based on interaction with other players and the community has evolved vastly overtime so even with a rolled back RS code you can never really get back to the game you have nostalgically stored away. Also "It doesn't effect the EoC/Jagex lovers" is a downright lie. Servers cost money to rent and upkeep, it costs bandwidth to manage them, it costs man hours to run them; all these costs take away from time/money Jagex could be investing into other things.

RuneScape: Old and New
People like this I estimate would last 1-3 months before the lack of a GE and dwindling player numbers made them lose interest. Purely because they will come to see Nostalgia-scape and Reality-scape are nothing alike due to a mixture of rose-tinted factor of nostalgia, lack of the original community that played a big part in making the game what it was, the lack of modern conveniences we are all used to (eg the GE) and the ever-dwindling player-base.

Repair Kits for Port Armor and Scrimshaws using Trade Goods and Resources
Dislike. All it would do is undermine the value of the tradable armour in the first place by removing the penalty of it being 1 use then it's gone, a mechanic which is designed purposefully to make it expensive to use and thus offer a big boon to those who can make their own.

I didn't see anything about shipwright mentioned. I mean sure its a tier lower but stats-wise it is the same. I knew he'd mentioned about the ship score imbalance thought where SF loses out 200 on hulls and 800 on bow items.

RuneScape: Old and New
Keeping pre-eoc code and having a 2006 version of rs are to very different things, especially consider we have no idea how much of an archive they keep when it comes to updates. Also 'it's common sense to see their problems' is an opinion, not a fact, seeing as people clearly do not agree on the problem. Equally there is NOTHING to prove 'cutting out the crap' (again an opinion not a fact) would bring in older players who quit or increase the member base. It is an assumption made by you because you like the idea, it is by no means a full gone conclusion or even a statistical probability.

RuneScape: Old and New
I love reading comments on how easy something is by armchair developers who clearly have no experience programming a game, let alone one as complicated as RuneScape, or running a business. You really need to get through the idea that it is nowhere near as simple as you think. So true, I think they same thing whenever people moan about Jagex not quickly patching a 'simple' bug quickly - what appears simple externally can be far from it internally. In among the thousands upon thousands of lines of code it could be a tiny line in Imp Catcher that checks for white beads that for no obvious reason is clashing with a piece of code in the Kalphite King that makes him do his 1 hit ko attack that is causing a gate in Ardougne to not open. To anyone in game the gate not opening is a very simple problem, the reality of tracking down what is causing that within the code and then finding how to fix it is a much greater matter.

01-Feb-2013 Squeal of Fortune: Cash Bags
Would make sense seeing as the 'f2p total' is an entirely player-invented concept with the game (and historically the highscores) making no distinction between your f2p stats and your members stats.

MTK?
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AldEhLOK6ejJdHlwRC1VRVJiUkFNM2JVQ3otNS0xUGc#gid=1 Always up-to-date from GE data on percentage return on investment at MTK and this data does include secondary producsts and works out average value from average spread of said secondaries (aka it accounts for gems, nests, seeds etc.) Bookmark it and check it prior to collection everytime to swap out for best returns. Farming has no data but given all the rubbish seeds it gives its a given it is never good, also the note about herb data being obsolete due to fellstalk can kinda be ignored because it seems mtk doesn't actually give fellstalk so the data is still valid. As of posting this rankings are Herbs - 287% return Mining - 258% Maples - 230% Mahogany - 228% Then into sub-200% ones, so best profit is 10 herb, 5 mining

Behind the Scenes: February 2013
Though I have the gloves unlocked, I find the fact they no longer have specials and require replacement every 4 hours to be majorly distracting. With the addition of these new gloves, which *may* be as affordable as Glacor boots are in addition to also being non-degradeable, I think they will safely replace Dom Gloves assuming those conditions are met. That is true, new highest always makes the next step down a bit less desirable; I was not denying that. I was more commenting on the fact you called the 2nd best gloves in-game 'obsolete' already - even though they are 2nd best in-game, entirely free and stats wise only very very very marginally in 2nd place. Their current status is anything but obsolete and even after these new gloves arrive they will still hold a key place as the 3rd best gloves (by a tiny margin) but free compared to the prices on nex ones.
-
Behind the Scenes: February 2013
Dom tower gloves are hardly obsolete; they are free Nex gloves aside from the +2 prayer. For those of use who can't afford 6om odd for a pair of gloves they are very very useful.

Tbh the way they worded it makes it sound exactly like RFD. RFD was billed as you need this to do the quest but this to fully access all the rewards. I could imagine it being like 4 or 5 factions searching for the place, you sort of play them off and find it - there ends the basic quest. Then each faction got in a different way and are looking at different things and you help/hinder each in the extra reward parts.
-
Behind the Scenes: February 2013
It requires Rotm and Firemakers Curse that kinda suggests Zaros stuff even if not his return; not to mention teasers mention we might see Nex. I noticed too in the requirements it kinda covers all the gods Rotm - Zammy, Zaros, Arma and Sara kind feature in various capacities Choosen Commander - Bandos Fire makers curse - more zaros/zammy Branches of Darkmeyer - more zammy and sort of sara

That's not what schizophrenia is. It is a possibility that he could shape-shift into Zaros, but I wouldn't count on it. Timelines exclude the possibility of Guthix being Zaros when you think about it. Guthix is asleep. Zaros is about. - This could work. Zamorak 'kills' Zaros causing him to fade out - Things could still work. Gwd start. Guthix wakes up slams the stone of jas down to end fighting a banishes all the gods - This is where it breaks. Zaros has already been 'killed' as is gone so it would be impossible for Guthix to be around now if they were the same guy.

Behind the Scenes: February 2013
70 Defence and 70 of the highest combat skill, yes. What further requirements do you want, exactly? No. 140 combat = 138+2 So in balance it'd be 69 def and 69 in another stat. Also as far as reqs go they are quite high all told: 74 Firemaking 80 Prayer 70 Slayer 76 Craft 77 Agile 76 Mining 80 Magic 65 Farming 66 Thief 55 Summon 55 Hunt 65 Defence 65 Herb 50 RC 67 Slay 70 Smithing 76 Wc 70 Cook 64 Ranged 70 Fletch 78 Strength 62 Fishing 70 Construction 78 Attack 76 Constitution This list traces all req quests back to the very beginning so is the cumulative requirements to beat the entirety of the quest. This list also does not account for any extra stats necessary to gain the QP req on things like WGS or the Kudos req for Missing my Mummy

I just started reading Dinosaurs and Prime Nubmers by Tom Moran Friend of mine and newly published, but nicely written and very funny, if the humour suits you. Only out on Kindle and seemingly only on uk amazon thus far.
