Botany Bay BTS Vid.
I'd say it's both seeing as they NEED the underlying mechanism to detect and ban bots to be working for this to have any impact at all. The graphics and bay area are just nice cosmetic add-ons to add visibility to the fight. After all now people say oh jagex never ban them, I see the same bots here all day blah blah; it's much more posititve (and off-putting to potential botters) if they can actively see bots being removed. They even said in interviews and stuff the big bot thing IS this new system that detects and auto-bans. ...but do you really need a giant dragon's hand coming down from the heavens to serve as a visual indicator that Jagex is doing something to fight bots? A simple arrow over the player's head and text in the chat box would be sufficient enough notice IMO. Now you are just trying to find fault with Jagex just for the sake of finding a problem. If it was a simple arrow you probably would have said it isn't extreme or obvious enough. I still think the whole idea is just to appease players, but if you can actually see bots getting banned instantly that's pretty cool. I'm not finding fault for the sake of finding fault. I mean, I don't mind that they're doing this - I've long pined for the return of the Black Hole - but it's more showy than functional IMO. Yes, Jagex probably has dramatically improved their bot detection system, and it probably blows their current one out of the water. So then that implies that the showiness of it all will only be useful for a little while - if the system is truly capable of detecting bots 100%. Honestly though, for that to fall through, it only takes one false positive... Furthermore, if the previous bot nuke was any indication, no system is capable of detecting bots 100% accurately. But hey - if Jagex feels that their development time is spent well by creating these visual cues for the player base, then so be it. But the previous bot nuke is not any indication because it was designed to break injection and reflection bots (which it did for many months) not to detect them. The only indication the previous bot nuke shows is that Jagex can do it, they can wipe out most bots; it's just a case of getting these things don e a bit quicker to avoid resurgence. Also what on earth do you have to base the opinion its more showy than functional on? We haven't seen anything of how well it functions to make any conclusions.

True. But that would require a fairly good detection system that they just don't have now. I'm not saying it can't be done, but they've said very little about the back-end parts of this update, and have focused telling us about the visual. I hope you're right, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high. They have said in this video and in prior interviews however that they have been working on a new really good detection system, which is kind of the core backend to this update. So it ought to be pretty decent, though obviously we have to wait a see; the only reason they haven't said much about it (other than that they have it and it's coming) is because they can't. What more is there to say other than that they have it and it's coming out that doesn't give away hints or outright info on how it works? Both of which is info they must not give out as it just gives bot devs help in finding work arounds.

It hinges on how good the detection is really. If it literally picks you up in a matter of seconds or under 5mins or so I don't see an issue with the 3 strike system (especially since first 2 entail temp bans anyway) as it's not gonna let RWTers etc. do anything productive before they get grabbed.

In lore the Moonclan Tribe 100% did not make the pocket realms. They made the altars at points strong with power for the various elements around the world, just like their Astral altar. The altars then some how (its not made clear how) "collapsed" into their own pocket realms as a form of self preservation (leaving the original altar structure entirely useless to RC with but functional as a gateway to these realms) when the anti-magic Barbarians came and destroyed the altars. Which is why all the altars (other than astral on lunar isle) are totally destroyed but radiate a power and have pristine altar hidden away in a pocket realm that takes on characteristics of the rune energy. In the lore we do not know exactly how the pocket realms came to be but we do know they formed around the altars opposed to existing before the altars.

No the lore is fine (on that part), you've jumped to wrong conclusion. It draws from a 'magical rift' that turns out to be connected to another world and it mentions it's inhabitants. Water altar is not a world, it is a pocket realm. Water altar does not have inhabitants. Altars did not even HAVE pocket realms until after the barbarians attacked destroying them and they created the realms themselves. Altars aren't 'rifts' Conversely: Fairy rings run off a magical rift, the entrance to Zanaris uses a fairy ring (inside at least) Zanaris is (in lore) a different world. Zanaris has inhabitants. The rift is quite clearly the Zanaris entrance.

Personally I decided to read that as referring to the bridge itself opposed to the town, on the basis that a bridge was probably already there and would've been the Lum Bridge or Lumbridge; but you are right it shouldn't really be there.

Ok i'm intrigued now. So Bandos never actually had a pressence in the gw? his followers were basically just following the highest bidder and couldnt commune with bandos. So quick question is why didn't bandos comunicate with his followers during the god wars? We know he made that avatar pendant and put most of his power into it but i dont recall it ever saying when it was made. So did bandos know something the other gods didn't? Maby something about guthix and made the pendant during the god wars because he knew that eventually the gods would be barred from interfering in the world? Nothing in that lore says when it happened. Judging by what is described it is all very much pre-godwars (or atleast before Graador went to the GWD area) I mean raids imply raiding neighbouring settlements not a prolonged warfare in a cave. Buying and selling armies to highest bidder doesn't sound like Graador is actually going to war himself etc. Plus even more so as it fails to mention the things Armadyl touches upon namely Kree called for aid from allies, no-one came, Kree told them about Godsword they (Zil and Graador) came to help THEN Graador swapped to ally with Kril. Plus it leaves it open for Bandos to of sent Graador "Perhaps He would call of Graardor's power once again, when the time was right." considering Kree's call to allies would've been to Sara and Bandos direct opposed to specific fighters (one would assume) it kinda implies Bandos must of then decided to send Graador with his big army etc.

I think you are thinking the Knight's notes, the one you get from the dying knight when you first reach GWD and are asked to deliver to Sir Tiffy. No because I specifically remember reading that lore about the dwarf ages ago. Maybe jagex when releasing the god wars dungeon the first time hinted at people finding information from reldo... Im not sure. That explorer's notes, as said on the page I linked too, is found in Keldagrim Library. It was definitely a bit of a pre-release hint though as it appeared July 2007 whilst GWD came August 2007. You probably have read it before it you care about lore, but it's not something you get directly from GWD and you can never come across it, where as the Knight's notes is the one you get when you discover GWD.

Still possible though, I think several notes can be dropped by each boss, so we'll have to wait and see. Going from the jagex wiki there is only 1 for each god. Plus some 'explorer's notes' by some Dwarf that seems to be new. Odd, when I click on Zilyana's notes it tells me it's missing many pages and incomplete. It's a book from thousands and thousands of years ago the fact it is missing pages and incomplete doesn't mean we CAN complete it. There's many books in RS with missing pages that are just that. Certainly not impossible there are pages to be had for them, but judging purely by the jagex wiki the 5 books are each listed as a single item with no sign of pages or w/e to be added to em.

wa? Rs wiki has full transcripts of every dg journal =S I could never find them before. Irrelevant to me now as I am 116 and read everything from other sources. But at one point jagex was very adamant on the issue. I literally have no idea wtf you on about. I been using rs wiki to read dg journals since like day 1 of dg launch never had any issue finding them (obviously within reason of some of the higher level rarer ones taking a few weeks to emerge or w/e) Edit also it seems a jagwiki balls up the 'explorers notes' shown as a gwd drop is this item: http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Explorer%27s_notes Though I guess there is potential for there to be another note set and they have just ballsed linking up, I mean it is jagex wiki they still haven't fixed the fact they miss arma boots and bandos helm off the drop lists or the fact they called the mage stuff 'subjection' rather than 'subjugation'

I think Nex journal is the most intriguing so far with hints of a new fortress a more solid telling of the Zaros wipe out than we had before etc. My only slightly disappointment is that in talking about her strongest allies they failed to address Umbra, Glacies, Fumus and Cruor.

My only gripe with new graphics: Just North of the hole we climb down you can clearly see a small building which would've been the surface area of the Temple and thus have stairs down to the dungeon/basement area. Fair enough the place is a ruin so these are broken. But why is there no sign of the broken stairs in the dungeon, just to the north of rope.

It's not just about what's stored in your cookie cutter profile. It's about the things you've posted *somewhere* at *some point* on your Facebook wall. Somewhere, at some point, maybe your mom commented on a photo saying, "Oh wow, that reminds me of the time I met my husband in Prague!" Or if someone can find you, they can probably find your family quite easily. They can scan through them, figure out who your cousins are, and then note down the ages until they find the oldest. This isn't the case with all people, obviously. But for many, it is. There are a lot of people who don't have "Private" Facebook accounts. There are a lot of people who blindly accept every friend request. There are a lot of people who don't think about what they're saying online, or what their family is saying. There are a lot of people who have their recovery answers out there for the world to see, and dont' even realize it. Which is why my IRL Facebook account and my Runescape FB account don't mix. Not that I'd post "real" answers anyways. If you want to use Facebook with your Runescape account, why not simply set up a dummy Facebook account for your Runescape character? I'm not talking about people who use Facebook for RuneScape things. I just mean people wanting to hack your RuneScape account but they need answers to your recovery questions. So they do a lot of research to find your REAL Facebook account. This 'research' can include googling, figuring out your e-mail address, finding out what school you went to, finding that school's Facebook page and then finding people in connection with that school and picking you out of it. And then stalking your Facebook page to farm it for information. People get DOXed all the time. That's one of the biggest ways people steal RuneScape accounts. A large part of that process is just doing online research to farm personal information, and part of that often leads back to Facebook, other social media sites, other online profiles, or any articles that may have included you that can now be found online. It doesn't matter if you 'officially' link those accounts to RuneScape or not. People are still capable of finding them. Of course it helps a lot if you use the same username, e-mail address, avatar, etc. But a lot of people do. I mean, I personally don't use real answers for my recoveries, but I think it's safe to assume that most people in the RuneScape population do. And that leaves them vulnerable. [/hide] Yes, but they need your password first, AND THEN access your e-mail account before they can even get to those questions Either way I'm just stating that this implementation is a very smart move by Jagex and several other companies (e.g Steam owner, Valve) and definitely will cut down the hacking cases of a lot of active accounts. Of course, while it isn't foolproof (as you've proved me) it's still an excellent preventive measure in the case big forums get hacked into again. Yeah good recoveries involve answers like: Where did your parents meet? Salty69verizon101elephant4frogs23 How do you know what question goes to what answer without leaving it down somewhere? You can note them down somewhere with a simple note eg Meet. Then run that text through a cipher, then store the cipher and the output in two separate password protected files, preferably on usb pens or w/e hidden away. Would take a good few minutes to go through and get your answers back if needed but pwnage protection as someone would need ur rs pass, ur email pass, plus the 2 usb pens, plus the cipher software to decode plus the 2 passwords for the files to even have a chance of getting into ur account.

So sara only actually got 1 new drop, thats a bit weird. I mean Bandos now has 8, Armadyl has 8, Zamorak has 8, Saradomin has 3(?) Would been better if Sara had all the ammys so it was 7,7,7,6. I got numbers from unique drops (eg exclude shards) so 8 = 6 armour items + hilt + amulet. 3 = crossbow, hilt and ss Saradomin drops all amulets though, some guys before us had whisper, we got murmur and hiss (and a rune spear -.-). Didn't pay attention to the examine option, though it is a bit weird to imagine Growler or any of the horsies using a crossbow (I know, I know, they're just drops...). Aahhhh so Murmur = arma OR sara Hiss = zammy OR sara Whisper = bandos OR sara I wonder if that means Arma x-bow will be dropped by arma as well as sara

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
I like the idea of skilling outfits to cause unaggressive but certainly it'd need to be limited so as to not entirely annihilate danger. Eg perhaps make a 'miner's hats' that works within specific mining sites but nowhere else but make it so that gold mining suit pieces serve same purpose.

It's still kinda a long shot. I mean I'm fairly certain none of my friends could answer most of the questions. Sure some friends from when I was like 5 might know frist best friend and my brothers would know mother's middle name and where parents met; but beyond that no-one would have the answers and even if people did try to get answers out of them it's not things you can ask without looking very weird and I'm confident anyone they did ask would be like wtf why would you need to know that?

My guess: They revamped steam staff has a particle-based steam effect. In making this they have managed to fudge up the staff orbs and the particles in general.

I still say the questions are obscure enough to not be easily found online. I mean mother's middle name? Middle names don't exactly come up all over fb for most. Eldest cousins name? Gonna take a fair bit of a leg work to piece together that relation from fb alone due to marriages and such like and that's even assuming you are friends on fb with such relatives. First best friend and first holiday? Again probably not exactly easy to find on fb and possibly a bit fishy to ask about conversationally. City where parents first met? Again not really fb plastered data. Unless you reallllllly are sharing tmi only it's quite easy for such answers to not be discoverable.
