The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
Did they claim they won't help as much or is that your conclusion? Summoning is pretty much confirmed, but the rest? Some of the ultimates do damage based on your opponent's health (40% max health damage etc.) so turmoil won't help there damage-wise but ss should, in principle, and perhaps accuracy will still matter. I imagine few attacks will be 100% accurate, so turmoil and potions should help a ton there with the increased defence. [qfc]296-297-805-63808234[/qfc] That post actually says "While Prayer does make a big difference to the outcome of a fight, [...] Prayer was dropped from the formula. In regards to Summoning and Constitution, while again they do make a difference, in the new system they don't make enough of a difference to warrant a place in the new formula." No reference to prayer actually being less useful, or changed at all really. Edit: Sinkhan ninja edit :(. The new og blog does however literally say it thought "While Prayer and Summoning will still be important, their contribution to the overall potential of your character will be reduced."

I think the 'average' user is more likely to be taken as barrows rather than Bandos. Sure Bandos etc. isn't as much as the very top end but it's still a level most have to work towards depending on money making skills. I mean I only managed to get bandos and armadyl recently myself and that is with lucky armadyl chestplate saving me like 10m(?)

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
This is a stupid thing to say. Yes it's valid for the CURRENT system but in the new system ALL armours give some degree of lifepoint boost so it's a pretty safe bet that monsters will be hitting harder and that, to an extent, lifepoint boosts will be somewhat neccessary for most creatures. They aren't going to let us get up to 15,000 lp but leave most monsters hitting like 150 region at best. The damage we face is obviously going to be scaled to match our new defensive power.

With the whole completing sets, using appropriate to your level etc. I wonder where DFS is going to land in the new system and also how DFS/dragonfire will be dealt with, after all dragonfire especially is super low level but kind of necessary kit for a lot of higher monsters (until you get herby for super antifires)

Why doesn't it make sense? If you do not have a shield on your off hand, it makes sense to punch with it. It does make sense to use both fists (maybe trade in some defence for that option) but in the BTS video, they showed unarmed combat where the character used only her right fist. I'm not sure if they want to bother implementing this, though it would make boxing a bit more interesting. I'd like to point out if you don't hack my post apart I already explain why I think it doesn't make sense for it to be implemented. "Especially seeing as unarmed is kind of the basic no frills, no gear attack so why would they let you some how toggle it to do 'dual wielded' to punch at double speed." I did not mean it does not make sense physically, I meant in the context of what unarmed combat is to the game.

Yeah I doubt they'd let you 'dual-wield' your fists, it just doesn't make sense. Especially seeing as unarmed is kind of the basic no frills, no gear attack so why would they let you some how toggle it to do 'dual wielded' to punch at double speed. One I did wonder though is whether we can do unarmed dual-wielding in the sense of no conventional weapon + off-hand d scimmy.

Nobody uses swh anymore, it's all goliaths now, swh was never really profitable anyway. I think goliaths are one of the items less likely to lose their ability, and since you have to build up adrenaline anyway, you can do 5-6 goliath hits, an ultimate w/ spear, then go back to goliaths :). A better question would be... Would it be possible to dual wield goliaths? You mean a nonsensical question, seeing as dual wielding is about having a weapon in both the weapon and shield slots, goliaths are gloves and don't go in either slot.

I don't have one either, so yea. Not beta. Doesn't prove anything seeing as a beta award would logically be given out when the beta actually starts.

Load Stones
Lunar and Bandits are tied to the ancient and lunar spell books and canafis and morytania in general really don't need more transport options imo. There is the ectophial as you mentioned, charter ships can also get you to the general area and direct to Mos Le Harmless as well. There is at least 3 fairy rings (One by mushroom patch, 1 in haunted wood and 1 in the swamp) + a fairy ring route onto mos le harmless. Direct tele to canafis via ancient mage. Doing temple trekking unlocks tele to Burgh De Rott on games necklace. Myreque quests leads to Drakan's medallion that more than covers all the southern areas of morytania. Slayer Rings can jump you to Tarn's Lair. After some Myreque quests blood altar via abyss or wicked hood also offers a route into the area.

Combat Beta Forum
I agree, a temp board for it seems wise since there's so many diverse topics to cover plus it'd give crewbie a place to look for data and/or put stickies for help with gathering new item stats, levels etc.

How to get Golden Katana
I doubt any such narrow release items will come again after the fuss about Golden Scythe and then the fuss about Trophy Vex that got that changed to be all t7 clans. I really think most likely answer is its for beta testers still seeing as it would be a limited but not uber narrow audience (all 12+ month members who applied + 50k other applicants, gotta be least 200k or so accounts)

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
This thread makes me sad how little many replies seem to understand: armour, weapons, food, potions and monsters are ALL changing, not to mention the fact they've said like a billion times def is gonna be more important. It's nowhere near as simple as well I only die now when food/prayer runs out so armour will never be an issue because the entire system is being altered and from the facts we do have armour and defence play a much much greater role in the new system. As for the weapon thing judging by hover boxes in videos it could be interesting. They have shown us around like all the interfaces and there has been nothing about choosing attack style (aside from picking xp type independent of weapon) and all the hover boxes for melee weapons have mentioned 1 style out of slash crush and stab and all the fighting they've shown each weapon seems to have 1 attack animation. All in all it therefore kind seems like each melee weapon is being locked down as either a crush wep a stab wep or a slash wep with no wiggle room at all.

Assassins Creed overrated?
Oh god I forgot AC1 difficulty curve, yeah it is kinda piss-easy for 90% of the game but the finale region of the game the curve just goes off the charts. I still NEVER beat that mission where you end up with like 5 paladin guys + a whole heap of other guards and archers after you whilst you try to kill that guy who is just stupid. He seems simple enough, dodge/stun so he is like weakened for a sec then strike. The issue arises in that doing the stun thing puts you so frigging far away from him you can barely reach him before he gets back up + he can basically 1 hit kill you. AC2 I think was better, but not perfect, because it got the controls better and the difficulty curve better but it certainly more about the story really. Brotherhood and Revelations are the really stars in the crown though as they really did add in a lot more diversity to the techniques you can use and the equipment available. I mean ACR You got like 100 or so possible different bombs once you factor in the 4 different casings, 3(?) blast radiuses, and 3/4 effects per bomb type.

Something I'm intrigued to see is what happens to tome of forst (and the prayerbooks for that matter) since they said books will be off-hand mage items for dual wield. The prayerbooks could kinda of become magebooks for other elements I mean sara, zam, guth lend themselves colour wise to air fire and earth. Bandos brown could go to mud, Armadyl grey could go to steam and then Zaros purple would be left with lava.

If the monster weaknesses were done like that so say monsters weak to fire are weak to blood how is that any different to what they are doing? Aside from the fact they are making slight tweaks to a couple of names to make them more obviously tie in. Aside from that I was watching back the videos and thinking how they definitely seem to be pushing into a sort of 3 'form' battle system. Firstly they mention msot def and lp boost being from shield, kinda implies shields is the new main armour piece opposed to body so then you get you're kind of default can weather it all form of shield and 1h wep. Then 2h weps do 150% damage so they seem like a form for fighting tank-type monsters which high def and weaker attacks where you want that power to pound through the def. Then dual wielding is essentially 2x attack speed so it seems to be a form for taking on low def monsters that you can take down fast without being hindered much by lose of def.

Assassins Creed overrated?
AC1 is the worst by a long shot thanks to the whole wilderness issue meaning you spend 90% of the time just traversing dead space. AC2 is much better thanks to it's removal, then brotherhood gets even slicker as you can finally swim (or was tht in 2?) and gets some nice new mechanics and revelations hones things further. I see people criticising it for being repetitive once you learn the techniques as it's just more of the same, I find this a poor critique. For one thing you have to mix it up a lot to adapt to the surroundings of your target is in and meet secondary objectives (if you want to 100%) and for another how is it different to any other game? Sure some games abilities get handed out a bit slower so you have some near the end that you never really master, but a good 50% of games out there it's repeating the same thing in essence after the learning curve. I mean racers, shooters the lot once you've learnt the controls what is there that's actually new beyond missions that use story elements to reapply your skills in slightly different circumstances.

There is actually Book 4 - Air for TLA, it's the series of comics called The Promise that fill in much of the time between TLA and LOK

I don't think it'll be a huge disconnect. All Gale needs to be is a green-ish or purple-ish toxic wind and it makes perfect sense. Also presumably Rock will look much more like solid grey, well, rocks than the brown lumps of earth and I think it does kinda of make sense your accuracy would be lowered if a large lump of rock smacks you in the face. Also I don't see it breaking the lore too much. Bloodfire and Ice still sit perfectly in the lore since ice doesn't change is and bloodfire is like a sinister vampyric twist on fire mage. The Smoke Dungeon can remain cause Fareed is a fire spirit of sorts so would chug out smoke, as do the dust devils and the Gale magic would be used to alter air currents to stop the smoke dispersing. Shadow dungeon is probably the largest departure, but Damis can still retain some shadow qualities after all his lair is carved into the rock and is shadow and dark thanks to the lack of lights etc.

I still kind of hope metamorphing using ancients has its own skins, but I don;t hold much hope. I mean the air and earth ones look fitting for gale and rock but the fire and water ones don't seem right for bloodfire and ice.

How to get Golden Katana
Congratulations on being the first to be confused by here-say and pondering. I wouldn't say he's confused just making his own guess at what it might be and considering ALL we have is here-say and pondering it's hardly confusing or misdirecting to consider any possible option.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Golden Katana is a reward given to those participating in the beta or something.

What book are you currently reading?
I hope you like it. I personally feel like the only person in the world who doesn't love the books :/ I read A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, and got halfway through A Storm of Swords before giving up. I LOVE the overall story of a kingdom at war, people wanting the throne, dragons, etc., but I felt like the whole story moved way too slowly for me and there were too many characters I didn't care about whose chapters I had to read. :( Then when I'd finally get to a character I love, I'd feel like nothing happened in their chapter. I hope you like it more than I do. It helped me that I read the Inheritance cycle of books before going into this series. Inheritance cycle has writing not comparable to this and uses the same format. Personally though my favorite part was trying to work with the chapters and see how Arya's was going to affect Sansa or some such. I like it so far, and I should be ok I've read and written things in similar styles before and the ones I've read have usually been from my degree so they are much more tedious than anything I read by choice. In other news I am an officially qualified literary snob as of today with my 2.1 Ba hons English Literature and Creative Writing being awarded. WOOP.
