New skill at the end of 2013
I don;t see high level stuff that gets people using the skill as a failure, could more be done? Certainly. But these updates did get people using the skill, so to an extent is has worked I mean all those flasks and what not people buy cause they can't be assed to make them are being produced by players so people are using that skill enmass compared to previously. And as I said smithing, crafting and fletching are all due more content from this combat update anyway, not to mention further stuff coming to them via player owned ports.

The Crucible 19-06-12
Knock at hatch > Do tutorial > song unlocks > job done. That only unlocked 1 song out of 7 for me? There's 6 new songs in Burthorpe randomly, tele to the home tele thing and they all unlock. They were the 7 I had missing (in addition to the 10ish dg ones, 1 dom tower and qbd one I've not bothered with yet)

Crucible stats
As mentioned the system is designed to match you based on levels and equipment so special builds aren't so important alos even trying to create a special build for the crucible anytime soon seems utterly pointless in light of the update overhaul due in Septemeber, which would like ruin any special build you'd made.

Doing the tutorials in the first one he specifically says you can get you're entry fee back from the bank before you leave as long as you are not someone's target.

The Crucible 19-06-12
serious? 500K? [bleep] that. That's a disgusting money sink for PvP. I can see this turning into dead content easily. From the article it doesn't look like a sink, it's a fee that you pay on entry, and on death part of it goes to your opponent in addition to anything you drop. And if you abandon the arena then you forfeit the fee, which your opponent receives in full. The Official RS wiki makes it sound like the fee component based on levels and gear is always given to your opponent if you die, and the flat fee is given to your opponent if you run away or lag out. What it doesn't specify: If you don't run, but still die, the 500k simply disappears from the game? Or is it returned to you? The thing to consider as well is: This is for brutal pking where targets drop EVERYTHING and then you have a safe-period to go bank loot. If you are even vaguely good at pking you *should* be able to make far more than 500k from one stint inside the crucible, so the entry cost is only a massive issue if you suck so hard you never win at all.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
Exactly. However simple it may be, if it isn't possible in the beta there is obviously multiple reasons beyond their programmers being sheite. The bit I find funny is, given that these developers and programmers are all uni graduates some with a good 15 odd years experience and they have managed to code an entire mmorpg with thousands of players (something a lot of these coding know-it-all 'oh it's easy' types probably couldn't manage) surely anyone with an ounce of common sense would realise that something like keybinding isn't being limited due to developers not being able to do it as they are 'rubbish' there is obviously some other reason based on the system it is being built in to. I mean even at a glance it's obvious other keybinds are used for set things in-game already, so whilst it may be easy to write a full rebindable bar it would immediately throw up conflict issues for the f keys, shift key, control key, tild key etc that all already have a bound unchangeable function. Not to mention the fact there must be some key/button bound for the purpose of allowing us to jump between chat and action bar and as other mentioned legacy of a decade of engine code being patched to do new things doesn't make for the simplest of compatibility.

The Crucible 19-06-12
They are just getting a marching band of Yelps minions ready who follow you around the game singing a hideous tune about how you can spin today for prizes that you cannot mute, even if you turn you speakers all the way down and will not go away until you use all your spins and if you try to ignore them more and more of them appear and produce enforced lag on everything other than clicking the sof, even disabling the log out button with a big picture of Yelps and making all chat you type turn into Yelps says spin today for prizes galore. Cause you know they gotta keep it subtle and not ram it down our throats with every update.

Forums go down everyday at set time?
That is the time when the 'view your posts' gets updated to include new thread from the past day, it's why it doesn't update more frequently. But it is nicely aimed so that it's in the quietest time of the day for the board (most America should be in bed at this hour whilst most of Europe and Asia should be at work/school). I remember this because the boards going down for like an hour whilst the update occurs is why the admins told us it could not be refreshed more often when there was a fairly large thread of people wanting it back after the forums migrated a year or two ago now.

New skill at the end of 2013
They already have been and still are doing that though, I mean past 2 years we've seen more tweaks and additions to most skills than we saw in the 8 years before that (ignoring staggered launch additions) and still are doing that. Sure there's still stuff to do but there always will be, that's the nature of a continually growing mmo in a world where the technically possibilites are always shifting. I mean one of the biggest updates due this year is doing some major game changing 'sprucing up' to like 13 skills. Attack, strength, def, mage, ranged, constitution, prayer, summoning, slayer, dungeoneering, fletching, smithing and crafting (and to an extent herblore) are all gonna be changed by the combat overhaul. Herblore due to spec recover being repurposed and overloads etc. being allowed into the wildy Fletching, crafting and smithing (possibly farming too) due to new armours and weapons (the 2h crossbows, shield bows, 'completing melee sets', more variety of mage armour etc.) Slayer and Dungeoneering due to monster weaknesses and strengths becoming more prominent and worth focussing on, alongside more specific weaknesses for mage and such. Summoning no doubt some familiars will be tweaked and tactic updates will possible change how it is used in combat a fair bit. Prayer we already know we are getting some new prayers and it is being 'overhauled' so it could be changing a lot more than we've been told. All the other combat stats are being spruced quite obviously through the new combat formulas and system and abilities. And this is BEFORE we even learn about the big classified feature of the combat update they are revealing in the next video which could easily drag more skills into the mixture of being refreshed a bit by this change. Edit: And of course I forgot one, runecrafting is going to be further changed (at least in use) due to mage spell costs dropping.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
Splicing my post from another thread since it's on-topic here on ability colour categories: Blue is Magic Yellow is Attack Green is Ranged Red is constitution Black is Defence Leaving brown as strength. This is all from the newest video. When flicking through you see a panel with 2 red abilites including regenerate which must be constitution and near the start show a bunch of green abilites showing bow icons (plus as they hover over the green plus sign it shows ranged icon), they say they are going to show attack and drag out yellow stuff, then say they add a couple of def and add some from a very neutral black tab. Then at end when showing magic they are all blue icons. Links for reference (need to pause them for most as its very brief views) 39 seconds Green showing ranged icon: 40 seconds Green tab with bow stuff: 41 seconds Red tab with constitution icon, also later in same second black with defence hover: 42 seconds Grey tab with shield/defence stuff, also a very very very brief hover over brown tht shows what seems like str icon and just before 43 seconds yellow shows attack hover: 43 seconds Yellow tab with attack stuff: 6min 8 seconds blue mage stuff: Thought tbh you can easily suss the colours from the skill icons anyway, even more so if you think of certain sort of iconic items. Mage hat is blue. Defence shield is blue and grey. Blue is gone, so it's grey/black. Attack sword is grey with yellow hilt. grey is gone, so yellow. Constitution heart is red, so red. No items really tied to it but hitsplats are red too. Strength fist is flesh tone which links to red and brown tones but certainly not green, red is gone so brown. Iconic items you'd probably think Bandos which has a lot of brown going on which helps match this up too. Ranged bow has brown and green, brown is gone so green. Also in terms of iconic items robin hat and rangers boots both green.

New skill at the end of 2013
Not happening it would seem you can see in the recent video the abilities tab has 6 categories (Yellow, brown, black, red, green, blue) we also know that Att, str, def, range, mage and constitution have abilities tied to them.

New skill at the end of 2013
I don't even see how it could be a skill, assigning a target player? That's hardly a separate talent or skill to master, perhaps the same could be said of Slayer but that at least makes more sense as it is different targets, not all humans and it will make even more sense post-combat change where strengths and weaknesses of monsters will play a far more noticeable role. Besides the Bounty Hunter mechanic is coming back like tomorrow in the Crucible update anyway.

Backwards Tradition
I never really had a 99 party, a few clan mates have come by to cheer in person as I level up, the rest say congratz through clan chat etc. then I just grab the cape and get on with the game. I got my 99 fm when no-one was online to even say gratz. Tbh your insistence that there SHOULD be a party and you SHOULD get gifts for accomplishing it just pangs of greedy and wanting hand outs, afterall 99 isn't *that* much of a big deal these days. Maxed players are numerous, let alone the vast swathes of 99 in every skill and with all the metagame knowledge you can get most stats to 99 in under 2 months a pop if you just focus and do it.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
seeing as it is a beta and subject to change, does not seem worth the effort yet. Things may be tweaked here and there if an issue arises but it's safe to say this is more of a PR stunt and a test of how systems hold up with thousands of players than something genuinely aimed at making any major overhauls; I mean they have the graphics and the sound in, they are like the final details and are slating for a september release. So it's definitely worth the effort, even if things do get tweaked findings from this will at least put us in the ballpark of the correct formulas needing only minor tweaks once we observe what tweak Jagex made. Same would apply for tip.it staff gathering the new stats on armours and weapons, a few may be slightly tweaked and need revising but this beta basically gives them a window of several months to get that data ready to go live as soon as the update does confident that it is mostly correct.

New Skill: Merchanting
I think this would be decent but ONLY off the buying NPCs had a clever shifting logic to them. Eg - Resources hold more value in locations they aren't readily available, prices and demands shift independently for each player based on what you have and have not sold to people. Eg if you sell a heap of sharks in fally it suddenly becomes awful to see sharks there. Could add more depth to the skill by, for example, having competion stalls to scope out, area knowledge to know what types of things sell well, and even could have some NPCs that you can talk to and get dialogues to help garner hints of what residents want. Also add like workshops where you leave resources to be produced into stuff. Eg maybe a workshop in Seers will take flax and thread and needles and then after a production period will give you shirts or trousers or skirts or hats (you order what you want) that's only use is selling on your stalls BUT these produced items obviously are better xp due to more time usage. But overall I think its kind of a weak an idea for an actual skill, since it's just interacting with interfaces essentially. Seems more like a mini-game or diversion that could tie in with things like kingdom and player ports.

360 vs ps3
The same can be said of xbox controllers. Grab the rechargeable battery packs, job done. I even have a 'power tree' that docks 2 ps3 controllers and 2 xbox controllers to maintain permanent charge. Ps3 controllers cost more in the long run because when the battery eventually comes to the end of it's life cycle and can't hold charge you need a whole new controller, xbox360 you just grab a new battery pack for much less.

I bought about 3,000 sheets of printer paper for my house [i live with my family, my brother's in middle school, my sister's in highschool] and we ran out completely about 3/4ths of the way into my second semester this year. You will need a printer. Well it depends what your major is tbh. My first two years of college I used <100 sheets of paper (over the whole two years). Maybe even <50. This past year I used about... 5 or 10, but it was all for printing non-uni related things. So yeah, definitely depends on your major. In some cases, it's hardly necessary. If you're doing like an actual English course or any other writing-intensive course, then it's definitely better to buy your own printer. Yeah it is very course dependant. I needed one for definite I did English Literature with Creative Writing, even putting essays etc. aside that meant I had to print several copies of my creative work each week for workshopping which was like 20 or so sheets a week alone.

What book are you currently reading?
I read The Hunger Games and Catching Fire over the past two days. Starting Mockingjay now. By far the best trilogy I've read in ages, even with Catching Fire sort of duplicating much of The Hunger Games it is captivating and some how greater than the first and the twists, emotions and action seem so well balanced and intertwined you truly get caught up in it and find your heart racing through the fights and the emotions and often kicking yourself you missed the obvious plan (Thought I must admit I spotted the final twist of Catching Fire early on).

360 vs ps3
I own both and I enjoy both I find what games I get on what comes partly of habit, partly from online services and partly from controls. Games primarily to be played online multiplayer are easier on PS3 because you get to play free opposed to needing gold membership on xbox. Then other games com from pure preference, I fair better on adventure type games (assassin's creed, batman etc.) with xbox controller whilst my prowess at racing and aiming guns that don;t auto-lock on is better with the PS3. I have to say unless you are a Halo nerd ps3 probably offers the better overall choice since it has the blu-ray and the free online etc. Though to my eyes kinect wins hands down for motion gaming which can be a lot of fun especially now games made for it are getting better at utilising it. BUT having said that I doubt buying a console in the near future is wise both microsoft and sony have slated having their next gen consoles out sometime next year (Most places say Q3); next gen meaning the 'xbox 720' and the ps4 opposed to more psvita or add-ons like kinect.

Reading any course prep info and lecture plans for the semester/year/term generally gives a good idea of how to deal with books/textbooks etc. For example I did English Lit and module handbooks we could access early on you could see the order books come up in and when and where we were being directed to essays/textbook we are supposed to have so it is quite easy to sit down and make a list of dates of when the various books are needed by (factoring in reading time and such), but generally in the first year there is more leeway because as people mentioned last minute switches and often first year they can't/don't get booklists and such too you as early on. In my first year we only got the book lists in the first lecture of each module, compared to 2nd and third year where reading lists and rough module handbooks are put online around exam season so we have all summer to prepare/buy stuff. 2nd hand book advice is good if you can bear books with notes in, some people (like myself) cannot STAND books that have been written in and thus 2nd hand is often not the best choice (unless literally from an actual shop so you can leaf through it). In terms of getting yourself established socially any skills/belongings you can use to garner social connections are handy. Like if you have a games console and some multiplayer games thats an easy way to lure in people and establish early friendships, with cooking skills when people start to get hungry you can help them sort out a decent meal, taking a good supply of medicine is wise too (not only for yourself) but it's the kind of thing many forget and can be helpful to garner early social connections if people need an aspirin or a plaster or the like and you can be like oh I have them. It does get easier later on of course, especially as you meet course mates as you have an instant connection there (eg on my course everyone likes books so we all had that straight away compared to room mates etc.) and in the later years you are more established of course. I think a key thing to hold on to is that everyone is in the same boat early on. Having your own printer is a god send! Even if the printing charges seem low when you do some math they would cost you a small fortune over the years if you have a lot to print.

New skill at the end of 2013
They did not say they WANT to do a production skill and finishing skill pair, they said that it COULD end up being that. It all depends what ideas they have to pitch and what they think adds most to the game. I mean we could easily get a gatherer skill or finishing skill that links in with one we already have. Eg engineering would be a finishing skill that would follow on from smithing most probably. They could do something assasin-esque that leads on from agility and thieving. Archeology could be taken as a gatherer skill through which we acquire rare ancient materials to use in smithing and crafting. There could be some sort of taxidermy/butchery type skill that is acts as a finishing skill to new hunter methods that leave behind a carcass to be harvested

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
It is obviously rebindable 1) you can reassign keys. 2) you can reassign slots. That's not what I meant. Rebindable as in bindable to mouse scroll wheel, alt/shift keys, etc. ^ 1) you can reassign keys. We don't know if you can bind them to combo (ctrl+a) keys, or the mouse wheel yet. Hence my original post. Derp. Yes we do know They said in the latest BTS video quite clearly you can reassigned action bar items to almost any SINGLE KEYBOARD key, including a-z 1-0 and some of the symbols. He wants them as combination keys like ctrl-q or alt-w, or assignable to the mouse scroll wheel (though that is already the camera). Shift for different bars is pretty okay for me at least. I am aware of what he wanted, my point was in the video they explained what we could do. And that was assign a SINGLE keyboard key of choice to each hotbar action, which directly rules out things like ctrl+q or w/e, not a single stroke and seeing how much depth they went into with and it and menu cleared said 'assign key' it also occludes mouse inputs. I mean for actual actions not switching the bars. Again I am aware of what you were saying, the point was shift+number already has a set action, so even if they did implement dual keys to hotbar actions it is unlikely the shift combos would become usable. [/hide] None of that made any sense, nor did it answer the question. If they don't allow fully rebindable keys, I'll go WTF. You aren't making sense. Some key combinations can't be bound because the java applet has to catch them. And it would suck if you bound say Ctrl-Q and lost focus on the java app and closed your browser. Being able to bind modifier keys is a lot more difficult to program. If that isn't what you wanted, could you please attempt more detail of your idea? :) Full renbindablity includes all keys on keyboard pretty much, alt keys, and shift keys. Also numbers. As I said in the video about the actionbar they clearly stated the action bar can be rebound to any single key from the keyboard including all the letters numbers and 'some' symbols. So you are not getting it 'fully' rebindable as you term it as it is clearly some keys are not included, nor is the mouse and there is no combination support, only single keys. I don't see how this can be confusing or fail to answer you question about rebinding of keys, it's pretty straight forward and is direct from the mouths of jmods and shown on video.

Or Uni as basically every country in the world other than USA call it. But yeah just enjoy it it flys by and is an amazing experience, can take a while to settle in etc but it'll pass if you just get on with it.
