The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
If only those combat mini-games were played often outside their themed worlds. I'm actually imagining myself getting into PvP minigames or monster hunting again for this update, but the fact I've seen CWars near-dead on every world that isn't themed for it is annoying. They really need to finish rolling out instanced worlds for mini-games like that, it'd be so much busier if every single world threw everyone together.

I don't know about controlled but it was confirmed that all weapons will be able to train all stats associated with them. So magic/ranged will be given the option to train pure defence as well, whips will be able to train strength etc. On the vid where they flicked through the xp/attack options menus melee had all 4 (att, str, def, controlled)

Are Fish Masks Gonna Raise In Price?
They are far to common to go sky high like other discontinued but as they will be discontinued they should definitely creepy up in value slowly, though it will be a good few years before they reach their full potential as time is required for quitting, dropping, banning etc. to make them a bit rarer and for new players to come through to make a better ratio of supply vs demand.

What book are you currently reading?
I've made a start on Game of Thrones, after reading a few Grimm's fairytales. Not quite hit the point where you get into the action yet, only just starting to hit the 2nd visits to narrators so I've been going a bit slow.

Because dragons and giants are realistic, right? Dual crossbows isn't due to lack of realism like dragons and giants, but simply being impossible to wind a crossbow while holding another unless you use your mouth or something, or grow a third hand lol Again, what about a one-handed crossbow while your other hand holds a gigantic shield. Lol. It's not that unrealistic there are examples of 'automatic' crossbows from history, of course much later than normal ones and rarer but using some sort of spring type mechanism and a bolt rack (think karils) they could self-reset and load a bolt. And of course one must always factor in willing suspension of disbelief because it is a fictional fantasy game, I mean hello??? we have a giant 360 degree rotating automated canon, them there Dwarves can do a lot of awesome shizzle.

Deffo excited for dual-wiedling, I wonder if this means defenders are gonna be replaced afterall what is the point in an offensive shield item when we can dual wield. Interesting that mage dual wielding comes from books and orbs n stuff rather than 2 weapons. And new range n mage shields sound sweeet And hybrid wielding seems epic Also I doubt you can dual wield shields to those mentioning that, after all you would not be able to attack which defeats the entire purpose of combat plus the video specifically says you can dual wield but it costs you your shield spot the direct inference being weapons can go to shield slot but not the reverse.

What book are you currently reading?
Tbh I think Kindle + collecting is good. Kindle size and cheaper books (mostly) means you can try more out and get more reading done like breaks n stuff. And you still have the option to grab hardcopies of books you really loved. To me Kindle is good as it means books don;t pose such a large issue when moving house pre-25 (when you can rent a van assuming you had a few years of driving under ur belt)

Microsoft Surface Tablets
I don't see the tablet hype particularly for the consumer market. In terms of portably doing work a netbook or laptop can do it all better due to physical keyboard etc. In terms of bits like web browsing on the go, messagin, email etc. smart phones more than cover it. Sure perhaps the games are a bit nicer, but it's a rather niche use when they games run perfectly fine on a good smartphone. Only place I've seen them excel is like events co-ordinators, guest lists, questionnaires etc. as they become a sort of hi-tech clipboard and can sync changes to all parties as needed and allows them to carry all the rules and guidelines to access on the fly if anything comes up. So I don't really think much at all about these, more interested in chromebooks

I turn sound on for quests, never for 'normal' stuff though other than occasionally to aid in penguin hunting; far too repetitive during normal training.

That still assumes a lot though. We have no idea if fighting things with low def is going to be the best route now. It could easily be the case, as other mentioned, that xp is a set amount independent of the monsters lp (aside from measuring % of kill done) and that kind of system is likely to give substantially better xp for fighting harder monsters, which could mean that aiming for low def slayer tasks is not the way to go.

This is pretty important and I hope I'm reading it right. The system is looking at the skill you're leveling versus the primary skill the monster will counter it (either it's offensive or defensive stat). You don't want to train defense on a monster with its offensive stat too low and you don't train atk/mag/rng against an enemy with low defensive stat. However, this is beneficial to players with divergent range, mage and melee stats. Reason being, even if you're a high combat level thanks to 90 atk, you can still train on low level NPCs if you happen to have and use a low level range skill. Also, if I'm reading this right, monsters will have weapons and armor of a level that fits their base stat. An NPC with 40 atk and 40 def will also be using something like rune armor and weapons. If that's the case, a monster's combat level and a player's combat level (that's fully equipped) will be comparable in power. That's unlike now where a level 138 NPC would be no competition to a fairly equipped level 80 player. Now I'm wondering how XP will be handled in all this? I don't think it's going to be HP based anymore. I can see it where a monster will have a set XP and you get a portion of that XP proportional to how much you damage it. What I'm thinking...this basically means that it's probably pretty bad to train defence during slayer, since the "good" slayer monsters have low defence. Either you sacrifice slayer speed to get more defence xp, or you'll have to train defence seperately. This is based on the at least partly false assumption that all slayer monsters relatively low def will remain. Considering the new damage outputs players have and the fact monsters are getting REAL cmb levels based on same formula as players I'd think many higher level slayer monsters defence is going to be raised which would bypass this issue.

I read their comments on this less as more creatures getting secondary attacks more as many being moved away from the default melee seeing as the automatic default monster has a basic melee attack atm and changing it's style is an addition hence why like 90% of rs monsters melee.

Dragonkin Journal
They are moderately rare drops so I wouldn't think much of it, you must bare in mind alos that the first journal is a 100% drop from the first kill, so getting it has nothing to do with luck or otherwise.

Yes but there are supposedly negative penalties for the wrong type of armor equipped as well. Yeah things jagex have said imply: Mage armour will do nothing offense wise for mage but it will give massive negatives to offence for ranged and melee. Range armour will do nothing offense wise for range but it will give massive negatives to offence for mage and melee. Melee armour will do nothing offense wise for melee but it will give massive negatives to offence for ranged and mage. Which is essentially the same thing as all armors giving bonuses to the type they support with zero negatives.. (assuming the weapons were lowered to compensate) Not really. If mage armour boosted mage offense but left range and melee at 0 you'd be quite easily able to use off-class weapons as the offensive boosts from your range and melee weapons would mean you still have a fair bit of power. Since they say you won't be able to effectively use off-class weapons and that offensive boosts are being moved to weapons logically speaking mage armour HAS to have negatives to range and melee attack so that even with a range or melee weapon you barely reach 0 overall. The key difference is the way you said it is still doable and by the sounds of jagex system (all offence on weapons) wou would not be hindered at all by going off-class. The way I said it does actually penalise/limit you for going off-class, which is what jmods have claimed to be the case.

Well ... it kinda does :P But yeah they should have just scaled back low-levelled monster Xp instead of axing it completely ... EDIT : This just in, probably only applies to Slayer targets though [qfc]296-297-574-63808127[/qfc] Translation: Don't worry when you get given something like velds (assuming mutated aren't unlocked for you) and they are too low for you to get proper xp you can still do your task for slayer xp! Just pretend a major part of training slayer isn't gaining combat xp whilst exploring a variety of creatures. Imo this limit could be a good thing to an extent, but i agree should be reduced xp not 0 xp BUT slayer tasks should be exempt. So if you get assigned wild dogs burthorping a task you should get ur cmb xp til task is completed.

I am curious how far they gone with the str & weakness thing, one would hope they went as far to making it fit for attacks (since they wan us using more diverse stuff) so like say fire giants might be using crush attacks whilst a ice giant might use slash etc. Part of me wonders if armours will have more type specific stats. Eg melee just has general bad mage def but mage and maybe range has element specific defence.

I saw this too so gave it a quick google, Return of Lucien is a music track that accompanies the quest, but that patch doesn't phrase anything well at all :c Could be referencing the cutscene-only areas used for Lucien's appearance in rotm. But yes it certainly does read rather funky.

I like how people rant about paying to die to x, y or z. That's not called a bad update, that's called you sucking at pking, dying cause of being ill-prepared then rage quitting before you can earn you're entry fees back.

I like the fact he says 'Op probably never once gave a gift to a friend FOR REACHING 99' Your 'comeback' is This kid in my clan gambled their bank away so I gave em 100k and not seen em since. Yeah that doesn't really refute his point at all and just suggests you're a bit of a mug who can be scammed outta cash with a good sob story.

Strange, no idea how I overlooked them. I suppose it is easier to spot songs you need when you actually have all the others green.

Knock at hatch > Do tutorial > song unlocks > job done. That only unlocked 1 song out of 7 for me? There's 6 new songs in Burthorpe randomly, tele to the home tele thing and they all unlock. They were the 7 I had missing (in addition to the 10ish dg ones, 1 dom tower and qbd one I've not bothered with yet) 5 new tracks were added during last week's "no update week". This update added 7 new songs, and you only unlock one of them, "Bounty", when doing the tutorial. Waiting for the track to end does not trigger a new unlock. Hmm I did not spot any new ones other than Bounty and the Burthorpe ones, any chance they are old BH songs restored but with unlocks preserved (as that would explain why I didn't spot them)
