Well, I've changed my build quite a bit. And now I have an easier questions, since I know asking people to look at an entire build is asking a lot. I won't have a modem right next to me wherever I am living for the next two years. It's downstairs and my computer would be upstairs, and moving the modem is not an option, since I live with other guys and they need it for the TV/cable/other shit downstairs. So, I'll have to get Wireless on my desktop somehow, and I don't know how reliable that is. So I'm wondering how I should do this. Should I buy a wifi adapter (and if so, what are some good ones - i don't want some shitty $15 one that won't do any good), or try something like a bridge, or maybe bridge my old laptop's adapter with my desktop (did something like this when my xbox adapter wasn't compatible with the modem)? Any advice would be appreciated. I'm lost as to where to go from here. No internet on the computer would basically stop me from building one, lol. EDIT: Something like this? http://www.newegg.co...N82E16833704133 EDIT 2: Actually, considering 100ft ethernet cables are like, less than $15 apiece, I might just buy one and run it all the way downstairs along the walls to the modem.

So, I've decided to try and build my own PC. I'm almost finished with college, which means I'll have less use for a portable computer, which makes a PC appealing because PCs are better than laptops, especially for the stuff I do/want to do. I don't know squat when it comes to computer parts, but I have done a little bit of browsing and a small amount of research into the parts I need. My budget is... flexible? I don't really want to do anything over $1000 (the build below is just over $1000). I kinda want to get into PC gaming. I don't know if I'm looking into running Crysis 3 or Battlefield 3 on like, ultra settings. But I would like the graphics to look nice and it to be a quick PC for watching high quality videos, playing games on high settings, etc. My build so far is pretty random. I've been getting ideas on parts from other people's builds. I really hardly know anything about certain parts and what certain little acronyms means and what the smaller specific parts do. So I figured I might as well run it by you guys (whoever still lurks here) and for advice concerning a) the parts I've selected and whether they are compatible at least b) the components and whether I'm getting too high quality of stuff for my needs c) suggestions on where to make price cuts on cheaper stuff without sacrificing a whole lot of performance. So, here it goes, I guess: CPU: Intel Core i5-3570 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core ($215) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115233 Motherboard: ASUS P8B75-V LGA 1155 Intel B75 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard ($85) http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131835 GPU: ASUS GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5 GeForce GTW 760 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP ($259) http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814121775 RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2x4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) ($77) http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231455 HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s ($70 or $63) http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822236339 or http://www.amazon.co..._bxgy_pc_text_y PSU: Corsair CX750 Builder Series ATX 80 PLUS ($88) http://www.amazon.co...74460775&sr=1-6 SSD: Samsung 840 Sries 2.5" 120GB SATA III ($109) http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820147188 Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Cases, Black Pearl ($104) http://www.amazon.co...4462044&sr=1-14 Also, I didn't do much searching on other websits for components. Just mainly newegg and amazon. Anyways, this is worth a shot. Thanks guys. Oh, and also, more emphasis on maybe lowering the price when considering other components. I don't have a monitor, so I have a feeling investing in one of those will cost a good amount, too. EDIT: Also, if there's any component I'm missing, let me know. I'm not sure if I need a separate CPU cooler or other fans and whatnot.

Went to the movies with my older sister. Went to see RED 2. Very funny. Not something I would usually go see in theaters, but she wanted me to come with her, so I did. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE ENDER'S GAME MOVIE TO COME OUT. Favorite science fiction book (saga, I guess if you include the other three books in the series). I just hope they don't butcher it. The preview looks cool. I'll go see that with my older sister too, since it premiers on her birthday, and she loves the book, too.

Why, thank you. ZZZZZIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So yeah, going to try listening through the entire soundtrack soon, but I've heard this song before and have always liked it.

Deadline for my research paper for my internship is coming up. Guess I should start working on it. Goal is to have it done by next Friday, since I have to give a presentation on it the following Wednesday. Eeesh. Doesn't help that there's literally one other scientific paper on the instrument I'm working with because it's relatively brand new. Also doesn't help that the instrument hasn't even been put back together since it's last use. So, I doubt I'll have any data to show, which is really bad. Gotta talk to my mentor about this shit.

Started Ender's Game again. One of my favorite books of all time. EDIT: Finished it. Even though I knew the big surprise, still enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time.

Blue Sky Black Death is a pretty sweet band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlYwzRCtziI Beginning might not sound interesting, but by 1:45 it gets real good.

Black Ops 2 was the first game I bought brand new. Probably won't buy any more games for the xbox 360. I've been thinking about investing in a PC to play games that way instead. Plus, i doubt more call of duty will be good for me psychologically. But, while I'm still semi-interested in it, working towards diamond assault rifles. Got the SWAT, M8, and SMR left. Swat sucks ass without select fire, and even then it still sucks. Doing the no perks and no attachments at the same time is going to be a drag.

I know way to much Emma is posted on here, but she looks so different (in a good way) in this magazine cover.

The National plays at NPR. Was very stoked to see this on my Facebook feed. http://www.npr.org/event/music/190382702/the-national-tiny-desk-concert?sc=fb&cc=fmp

One of my parents' older friends was talking to me last weekend, and they going on and on about getting a Facebook and how useful it would be. I was like, "You're a little late to that train, dude." My niece's birthday is today. She just graduated from middle school. Pretty nuts how fast they're growing up. And also, my oldest brother just had his first child. So that was exciting.

Buying clothing and then within a few months realizing you'll never wear it. I did that with a pair of jeans. Perfectly good pair. I just don't like the style.

The word salty used as follows: "I'm about to get real salty if that shit actually happens." Basically used in place of pissed, angry, etc.
-
It seems like that always happens. I found myself getting so many bloodthirsty medals while going for one shot one kills with the sniper rifles, but once I actually needed them for a camo, I could never get them. I got to master prestige this morning. I have a feeling I'll play a lot less now, even though I'm not really sure why. Prestige means nothing, so I don't know why I feel like I've "completed" the game after getting to master prestige. Last game before master prestige my team was down by thirty tags on hijacked (joined an ongoing game). Pulled out a class with a kap40 secondary (long barrel, extended mags) and ended up winning the game for my team by two tags. That weapon easily outclasses so many primaries, it's nuts.

Murman - Richard Devine Very ambient and calming. Check it out!

Which of Autechre's albums are your favorite? [anyone] I'm looking to download some of their music.

Just realized that you can just go into hardcore and use the SVU-AS as get one shot one kills easy. I'm just sacrificing my k/d because it's hard to get the jump on people with a sniper.
-
I'm not good with snipers at all. Can't quickscope worth shit, even though you'd think after using the sniper quite a bit I would get a handle on it. Last night I was just getting frustrated using any other gun, so I decided to snipe for fun. Turned out to be pretty fun. I didn't do too bad. But that's probably because I started getting into scrub lobbies. And I realized that with ballistics cpu on, you don't really have to hold your breath much to steady your aim.

Whaaaaaat?!? I don't know how I've missed such a good thread as this one. I'm starting on page 1 for sure.

Ballista definitely has a quicker ADS. I like the feel of it much more than the DSR, but the amount of hit markers I get is so frustrating. Using the iron sights on it and getting hit markers is the most depressing thing ever. Using the SVU-AS now since I've done all the camo unlocks for the DSR and I just prestiged again, so I can't use the Ballista for a while. I feel like such a scumbag using semi-automatic sniper rifles. It's still gonna be annoying to get one shot one kills with them, though.

By the gods... And Blake is so cute.

I've run into some dude a few times playing Kill Confirmed, and he always seems to kick everyone's ass. Almost every single gunfight against him I would lose, and I had no idea why, cause I'm a pretty decent player myself. Has a 2.5 k/d and a pretty good score per minute. Decided to pay attention to the kill cams and noticed he had six perks. Thought that looked suspicious, since six perks takes up 9 of the pick ten. Went back to theater, and sure enough, he spawns in with six perks, a bouncing betty, and a scorpion with two attachments. Obviously exploiting the wildcard glitch. Surprised, yet not really surprised that Treyarch hasn't gotten that fixed. And now I can blame my gunfight losses to him on his glitching. Which makes me feel a bit better.
