  1. . wow, this is some interesting insight. looking at it this way, effigy collecting nearly replaces any form of money making (well, only if your goal is maxing out, and doesn't involve having surplus money). but i guess that was kind of obvious. but the glacor calculations surprised me nonetheless. yeah, i'm just sort of critical of the narrow sense in which value is often defined, because i don't think a lot of people see its narrowness.
  2. I had problems with this statement too. Good job on the solid (if impassioned) defense TTanT! I think what he more meant to say was most people have the same idea of fun, and that it's not like what's fun to people is totally random. Which i would agree with. ==== For the record, another task SoA is also worse on is mutated jadinko males. And on cannon-able tasks you sort of have to factor in the cannon's decreased accuracy.
  3. sorry for posting this in the wrong place. I just saw the glaring NOT FOR CORRECTIONS caption :P.
  4. I think you're right . but not just rs. rs forums too.
  5. has anyone ever deluded themselves into thinking that green is maybe just so meta (like whole meta levels above us all) that she concluded that doing whatever random things her heart desires is best, and not just for her, but for many people who just don't know it?? I think I just did . :ohnoes:. on topic: I just need to know how to piece back my shattered reality (like which time-value piece do I put in the 574 spot which is the slayer task of hellhounds with a zaryte bow and regular range potions??), but like i said, this is all pretty hypothetical (read: pointless).
  6. but it took him 3 HOURS for those 47 kills. (actually, he didn't specify how long it took him). I suggest using ahrims over those void..pieces. The mage attack increase amounts to a significant increase in accuracy. If you are worried about the loss of prayer you can use a combination of akrisae/ahirms or replace the cape with an ardy on, if you have that.
  7. ^ That statement sort of needs the qualifier that making back the money is just as fun, easy, whatever for you as cooking the fish is, and that making wines is too :). But yeah, that's a good way to think about it I find.
  8. I believe you said you only have a few mils to spend. If that's true my general feeling would be that swordfish are better :). (one thing fish have going for them is that they're more afkable, if you value that).
  9. ^, lol, something tells me part of that was my fault. But i bet this is not that uncommon around here, the op getting more than he asks for, and everything. ^^, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorrrrryyyyyy   . I wont do it again. I promise. I swear. It was a mistake. ==== discussion that might get this thread locked, commenced: all i said was I think you tend to _____. I'm happy for you to correct me. I don't think that was putting words in your mouth. maybe it wasn't exactly nice . So I'm sorry for that. But I was just saying how I infer you think about things. I'll do the same thing again, anyway - you strike me as being a bit too defensive due to having to fend off so many wayward criticisms. I would suggest that saying I was putting words in your mouth was one of those overly defensive reactions.
  10. thanks for the replies :). hmm my post was confusing. What i meant to say was that for two things that give the same gp/h in game, I might value the time of the first way A differently than the time of the second way B (like if one is more afkable, as happyseeker wisely said). Anyway, I think maybe the computational complexity gets either too complex or subjective to be worth figuring out, so I might better off just to forget it all and do whatever random things my heart desires. But I really don't play rs anymore, so this question is 90% hypothetical and 72% exaggerated.
  11. I just realized that I value my time spent doing different things very differently. Like 2 minutes at glacors might be equal to 4 minutes of slayer! And my whole rs world just collapsed into a million different scattered, discrete time values, and I'm so confused. How to do I rebuild from the chaos??? (has anyone else ever had to cope with this kind of revelation?)
  12. oh, I think you you tend to think about what's optimal for a robot, and then map that onto what's optimal for a human. But humans aren't really robots, and we're not all the same. What's theoretically optimal might not be in the achievable space for a particular human. So we have to be more relaxed with measures like if you value your time more than x do y - they are guides , not following them doesn't mean you are being less efficient than you can be. it just means you are not optimizing your theoretical efficiency.
  13. ^ it actually can have to do with your bank. if you just happen to have extra money, like me, more than enough to cover the buyables, etc., then you probably still want to do wines even if you value your time <400k (which i arguably do). You might say its hard to have a lot of money and value your money so low, but many things can decrease how much you value your time - you might, for example, just really not like to do the money generating things. You might not be able to afk them to the degree that you can making wines, which might significantly decrease their value to you.
  14. quyneax, SoA is actually worse than melee on them. I tried it. with max mage gear you hit maybe 60% of the time :(.
  15. hmm I don't feel that way. but I don't really fall into the trap of offering advice to someone based what I value, not on what they do. Because often when people want advice, what they are really asking for is for you to help them optimize X given their value system. but when their value system is really different from yours its awkward to help them optimize something you think is silly. In this case the answerer should probably just not offer advice (which is what i tend to do), but many times they simply can't help themselves, and try to rewrite the Op's value system, which doesn't usually end up helping anyone.
  16. and I promise you there is new content. not sure how much of an inconvenience this is for others (or if others are experiencing it, though i think they are) but for me its a pretty sad thing.
  17. um, brackish blade + ddef > korasi's + ddef when accuracy is below around 65% (that's just a guess, but basically you get +7 stab and sacrifice 4 str).
  18. I don't think statements like this are necessarily wrong. What is "superior" to him might not be "superior" to you. It could be that being the color BLUE makes something more superior to him.
  19. This thread needs to be saved for historical purposes. Why was happyseeker called happybunyip?? I think a brackish blade is even better than a whip for kbd. Though it is definitely not knightly. === The problem is people have different utility functions, but they think that their utility functions are the right ones. But they're not - people are free to value whatever they want, even knightlyness. If blaze told us how much weight knightlyness and efficiency had in his utility function, than I think happyseeker would have a fun time optimizing his gear for him (but we would have to give everything a efficiency and knightlyness rating).
  20. yeah, i think it would maybe be better if happyseeker refrained form posting things like that. but they are pretty straightforward to slay. You just want the highest melee dps you can get. And a uni ...presumably.
  21. reducing the grind by making *lower level* experience rates faster specifically seems like an interesting idea. It would minimally bother the players that have the most problems with jagex making things easier, the ones that have invested a lot of time in rs, and it would appease the players who have the most problems with the grind - the ones that aren't already 138 and semi addicted to rs. An example would be Like an exponentially decreasing multiplier that goes from 5-->1 as levels increase to 99, or something like that. you would maybe reach 99 30% faster than without the multiplier, or whatever amount sounded reasonable.
  22. I operate on the principle that it's okay to steal so long as the store still makes a profit from me. So I try to steal less than 15% worth of what I buy, just to be safe. I know its not perfectly morally okay, that there are potentially some small gaps, some bad that comes out of it, but I think its nearly fine, so I've adopted it for now. Also I always buy the vegetable that's on sale and things like that. It is seriously shocking how on sale things can be. And I have lots of olive oil with my vegetables because its 1$/1000calories, which is pretty great.
  23. Getting a profile picture is an easy thing you can do to make yourself more noticeable (so you don't have to write as many good posts). Also you have to be dominant. Or at least partake in all the subtle and unsubtle contests for dominance appropriately (i.e fiercely, but with your claws retracted so no one gets hurt, which would ruin the point of the contest).
  24. ^ I have a hard time comprehending that inv (that's just a data point for you so you can say most people have a hard time comprehending it with more confidence :)) would a torva plate and ddef be better than an ely for k'ril? do we know that ddef by itself isn't better than ely?
