  1. If SoA is 1.5x the speed of melee on the metals, which is what I assumed, then it comes out to 30mins saved per hour - in 2 hours using SoA you kill as many drags as you would in 3 hours using melee, so 30mins/h saved. You only need around 1300 casts/h to achieve the 1.5x speed, which the rate I think most people end up getting. At 2650/rune that's 6.9m/h. If the cheapest use of arma runes is to use them on metals, then I would have a hard time believing they would only make sense for people who value their time at 12m/h to use. It would just seem that the demand would be too low, and the price would have to fall. But if their use in pking is extensive and profitable, then you could maybe see it happening. === Wow, so boots are 23m/ea average atm. 350 kills is 7 hours, so 3m/h from the boots. It's at least 1m/h a piece for the effigies and shards. So around 5-6/h total. Soa is valued around there at glacors, and that's actually regardless of whether you use steel titan or not (I had assumed previously that you use the same number of arma runes/h if you use steel titan, but that's obviously untrue). So, like grimy said, it seems to not matter very much what you do, in terms of efficiency. More depends on what you would rather do probably (i.e do glacors more, or skill more), or something like that. SoA speeds up your glacor kills. If the money from the extra glacors you kill with SoA compared to melee is more than the value of the runes you use, then you should use SoA. that is how you decide. It's hard to say if it is at the moment because, for one, we don't exactly know how much soa speeds up your kills. And then rune/boot prices are unsteady, and the boot drop rate is uncertain. But I would say the data is probably available to figure it out if someone wanted to.
  2. At irons/steels/miths you need to value your time at around 6m/h to justify it. At glacors its somewhere between 5m-9m, depending on whether you use steel titan or not, etc. Of course, if you can do glacors than you already value your time high enough to make using soa make sense. There's also the fact that soa at glacors is more convenient, which you might value. I don't think you're going to find a rational application for it (besides possibly pking) if you value your time at 2-3m/h.
  3. I sympathize with those who feel rs is ruined because they can't bot anymore. Botting is like flipping items (lots of rewards with very little time investment), and personally if flipping was gone than rs would feel ruined for me in the same way that it does for them. Of course botting is against the rules and makes the game less pleasant for people while flipping doesn't.
  4. ^^^^, that was a nice analogy with the marathon runner :P.
  5. I just recorded spec occurrence. I am fairly certain that specials are applied after its decided whether the shot was a hit or miss, so you don't need to worry about that. Btw, I remember my conclusion was that it the specials probably went from 1/12 --> 1/8 (I also remember reading something later about the seers diary increasing the chance of specials by 50%). if missing negated a potential spec, then rubies wouldn't be nearly as effective as they are at arma/nex. Oh, I remember testing onyx bolt specs after seers diary, totally pointless because they're useless, i know, but I got 1/16. This agrees with another person's data for the rate of the dragon bolts after he had done the diary, so maybe they are the same. With the previous hypothesis then the rate would be 1/24 w/o the diary finished. anyway, I support this line of research. Knowing the ruby spec rate especially would be super nice - even a relatively small change in its rate can impact the dps of the bolts dramatically when the target has high hp and defense.
  6. ^ that's only if the attack/damage rolls are modified in the same way (just because the level is modified in one way during one calculation doesn't mean it couldn't be modified differently in another, i don't think - unless the formulas both call the modified range level first, and don't modify after). sinkhan seems likely to have it right - and we might be able to test which way it works because of the constants in the formulas, which get changed depending on how things are modified.
  7. I more wonder what will happen to THE WORLD in 50 years. Rs is just entertainment for humans, but it is very sophisticated entertainment relative to all the entertainment before it. I might care what happens to it (slightly), but if we're thinking about the future of anything (which is a hard thing to do), I would much rather think about humanity, and what's going to happen to us or not (if we're going to survive, not whether rs is going to survive). The first question seems way more important, and even relevant to the second one, because how can any entertainment (fun things in life) survive if humanity doesn't. It's okay though. I know we're all super addicted to rs. If would only be hard for maybe a week or so for most of us to get over its disappearance though. humans are surprisingly adaptable, more than we generally think we are. don't get me wrong though - that might be one tough week :P.
  8. You can use the sneekerpeeper as a shield! it's intimidating and otherworldly!
  9. ^ hmm interesting point. Yeah, it seems very likely that it could be 1.1x each to the level and and damage. It would explain why jagex says it gives 10% to each.
  10. I used some ruby bolts before and after the seers diary - got about 8.5% before and 12.5% after IIRC. My sample size was pretty small, like 500 shots each time.
  11. virtus gives the same negative range attack as torva, which is what you should already be using :P.
  12. the damage multiplier is 1.1^2 people from the max hit thread on the rs forums figured it out I think.
  13. I guess the stunner has a small additional incentive to use zerker(i) over onyx(i) then :P . And I guess to use a fighter hat over a neit too.
  14. strength bonus is normally just as valuable as accuracy bonus for bgs specs actually, since how much def you reduce is proportional to what you hit. But corp halves the damage of non-spears, which is the reason why the warrior(i) is better than the zerker (i) for the specs :).
  15. Why is it a mith crossbow you have to use? (b/c missing still stuns core?).
  16. watching some pvp live commentaries helped me understand it. They get so happy when they win, like huge neurotransmitter firings you couldn't even imagine and everything. The magnitude of their response was shocking to me. Some delirious repetition of oh my god, thank you god, and an accidental mention of their mom often slipped out following the pk, or whatever it was. I never really saw why people were addicted to it so much until I saw how it could effect them. Many of those pvp'ers are probably in states of mind very different than yours..
  17. Why would there be multiple "instances" of the cave per world? If true, I hope its a glitch. It would make no sense to relieve crowding in that way.
  18. happyseeker, if that's true, than fire cape is probably better than ardy, and neit (possibly) better than fighter hat on a dps basis.
  19. hmm well when using bgs the str afforded by the zerker (i) is effectively 4 (maybe?). So it would seem onyx(i) would be better for specs, which do have some value, and so give the onyx(i) some added value. On the other hand bgs specs might devalue accuracy bonus, making the onyx(i) worse. probably what would be *best* would be to use a warrior(i) with bgs and zerker(i) otherwise, if you're okay with switching rings. :P .
  20. For dark beasts it's useful to have done within the light so you can tele to the light temple with an elf crystal. You cannon them in the northeast room, where you are able to step into a narrow tunnel to allow the cannon to multi-target. Black demons you do in the tav dungeon and hide behind some rocks. In both cases higher population worlda are best.
  21. Seems to me like this is well worth it. On black demon tasks I was getting at least 200 kills per hour along with 330k fletch, and on dark beasts it was 185 with, again, 330k fletch. You just fletch 10 sets of broads, refill cannon, and repeat. You do miss the melee xp though, which you might care about. I was doing it with 256 range attack, and getting 25xp per cannon ball on the black demons, and 20.5 on the dark beasts. (you wouldn't have to be on a slayer task to make use of this, of course, because the effigies might make it worth it by themselves, but I personally wouldn't bother with it if you're not).
  22. I had 4 boots drops in 1450 kills. Used row for 2/3 of the kills maybe. seems that they're around 1/1k ea..
  23. well, I think melee is very likely better with claws and torva and things. I was using virtus, arcane ss, staff of armadyl, arcane stream, etc.
  24. I got a greater task so I tried some solo k'rill kills with soa. I did 16 in 28mins, but then ran out of brews :P. I think I could at least do 30 next time. I was in a full world btw. but if banking and kc takes 10mins that's not too bad. I think it could probably be at least 30/h with soa. Someone else will have to try melee. it was 400 arma runes, so 800k. drops would probably cover that.
