What does the critical bonus on amulets and cloaks do for melee and range? I know it increases your chance of hitting your max hit with mage, but I have no idea what it does for range and melee.

Yep. Wearing a full set, an ASN and a chaotic staff will display as a 43% boost on your character screen. Multiply your base spell damage with this, and then multiply that with your potion boost. So if you're using Fire Surge: 280 * 1.43 = 400 * 1.21 = 484.

+1% Magic damage? Ehh... I'll stick to my arcane, I think. Anyway, the new subjection armor has a 75 Magic and 75 Defence requirement, there's six pieces in total (including the shield somebody else already posted), and they all give a very small Magic damage bonus. Saradomin's whisper (the new melee amulet) gives 12 Strength and 8 to all three melee styles.

Does anyone know how melee and range damage scales?

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
Here's the base spell damage of all offensive spells in the normal spell book. This has been done by using a wand (100% spell damage), no potion and no prayer. Wind Strike (level 1): 52 Water Strike (level 5): 74 Earth Strike (level 9): 96 Fire Strike (level 13): 138 Wind Bolt (level 17): 180 Water Bolt (level 23): 244 Earth Bolt (level 29): 306 Fire Bolt (level 35): 370 Wind Blast (level 41): 434 Water Blast (level 47): 498 Slayer Dart (level 50): 528 Earth Blast (level 53): 560 Fire Blast (level 59): 624 Divine Storm (level 60): 640 Wind Wave (level 62): 656 Water Wave (level 65): 688 Earth Wave (level 70): 738 Fire Wave (level 75): 792 Storm of Armadyl (level 77): 796 wind Surge (level 81): 846 Water Surge (level 85): 852 Earth Surge (level 89): 862 Fire Surge (level 95): 870 All spells, except for Divine Storm and all Surge spells, scale by 12 damage for odd levels, and 14 for even levels. Divine Storm scales by 14 for every level. Surge spells scale by 2 damage per level. Also, if you're using Wind Strike, and you unlock Wind Bolt, Wind Strike's damage will only scale by 2 damage per level and onwards. So from level 1 until level 17, it will scale by 12/14 damage and by 2 damage from level 17 and onwards. The same applies for all other spells, except for Slayer Dart, Divine Storm and Storm of Armadyl. And finally, if you're using a staff, all spell damage (And spell damage scaling!) is multiplied by 225%, rounded down. To give you an example of how bad spell damage is scaling, take a look at this: At level 13, where you unlock Fire Strike, Wind Strike does 208 damage, Water Stike does 178 damage, Earth Strike does 148 damage and Fire Strike does 138 damage.

Spell damage is increased by 12 for odd levels, and 14 for even levels. When you reach the next tier of an elemental spell (say Wind Bolt), Wind Strike will only increase damage by 2 per level and onwards. So from level 1 to level 16, it's damage is increased by 12 - 14 and from level 17 and onwards, the damage is only increased by 2. With Water Strike, it's damage is increased by 12 - 14 until you unlock Water Bolt. Then it's damage is increased by 2. Same thing for Earth and Fire Strike. What's also weird, is that once you unlock Wind Bolt, Wind Strike still does more damage! At level 16, where you unlock Wind Bolt, it does 180 damage, but Wind Strike does 248 damage. The same counts for Water, Earth and Fire. It's completely messed up. Oh, also, Augury gives a bigger damage boost than Torment. I get a whopping 4 damage bonus from Torment(!!) and 11(!!!) from Augury. Who on Earth is responsible for this mess? This really needs a full rework...

They were weak to fire, but that doesn't really matter. You don't get a damage increase if you attack monsters with the right attack style or element. Anyway, I'm still testing and I've discovered a couple more things, which I'll post later on when I'm done.

Spell damage scaling needs to be completely reworked. It doesn't make any sense right now. Here's the damage of all four strike spells from level 1 to 10. I didn't use a weapon, potion or prayer. Wind Strike: 52, 64, 78, 90, 104, 116, 130, 142, 156, 168 Water Strike: 22, 34, 48, 60, 74, 86, 100, 112, 126, 138 Earth Strike: 0, 4, 18, 30, 44, 56, 70, 82, 96, 108 Fire Strike: 0, 0, 8, 20, 34, 46, 60, 72, 86, 98 Wind Strike does almost twice as much damage as Fire Strike at 10 Magic...

I like how they lowered the damage of Barrage spells significantly. Now Barrage spells will only be used in AoE fights and Blitz spells will only be used in single target fights. I like that change. They still need to take a look at the damage of spells, though. Lower level spells deal a lot more damage than higher level spells, which I'm pretty sure isn't supposed to happen. For example, Fire Wave does less damage than Air Wave. SoA with an ABS does the most single target damage, followed by Divine Storm.

They need to buff dual wield casting. It's so bad in comparision to staves. Are 2-handed weapons the way to go for Melee and Ranged as well? Abilities deal the most damage with 2-handed weapons, which is where most of your total damage will come from.

What's the attack speed for weapons now? Is average 3.6 now, with fast being 2.4 and fastest being 1.8?

The ABS gives a 10% damage boost to SoA by the way, making it more powerful than Divine Storm. I did a hellhound task, using SoA, Torment, overloads and Momentum. I was getting 330k Magic xp/h and 64k Slayer xp/h.

I wish they put a dummy in game with infinite health that would tell you your DPS. Just like a dummy on WoW with the Recount/Skada add on.

I agree. The last patch notes were on July 20, and the last time there have been any changes to classes has been 29 days ago. And combat is still very unbalanced. What the Hell are you doing, Jagex? Take a look at the WoW Mists of Pandaria beta. Lots of changes every week to tweak classes, quests and instances to make the game as balanced as possible.

It's weird. We haven't really gotten any new, solid content in a while. Which is understandable, because you'd think everyone's busy working on the EoC. But when there have been no changes in three weeks, it's making me wonder what they're doing all day at Jagex HQ. All we get nowadays is more crap about SoF & Solomon. Sigh...

Wow. So three weeks without any patch notes, and they're aiming for a september release? The combat beta is in such a derpy state right now... no way will it be ready by september.

All staves are 2h, that's why they brought in wand equivalents of most major staves I know, but I hear rumors that the doomcore staff is 1 handed. It's a rare drop from nechryael, so it could be true. And there aren't wands in Dungeoneering, are there? I got a doomcore staff in my first beta dungeon. It was 2 handed... Okay, thanks. It's still a useless staff, then.
