  1. Yeah, I'd want to see what it has to say to that. :P Also, may as well put it to the test, will radioactive decay calculations come up in my physics exam tomorrow?
  2. Time is relative, time flows slower nearer bodies of greater gravitational strength, i.e. time flows slower the closer you get to the surface of the earth. At the event horizon of a black hole, time stops. The fact that there is no absolute time was a key consequence of relativity. Although, i've just bought a book of Amazon called The End Of Time, written by a physicist who says that time is an illusion. But I haven't read any of it yet, I might write up a summary when I have done.
  3. I think Reb was referring to karate(?). In Shotokan Karate it's possible to become a black belt in 2 or 3 years, but takes serious dedication.
  4. Einstein, is that you? Points go to assassin. Minus points if you used google to search. I can't recall where I remembered it from, possibly a Hawking essay or a wikipedia search long ago.
  5. Three changes of clothes today, school uniform for my exam, tracksuit trousers and t-shirt for the gym and now jeans and a red t-shirt. Thrilling, I know, but it's too wet to wear anything interesting.
  6. So how do doctors work then? Or soldiers? Or paramedics? Or policemen? Or firemen? But anyway, to the author, well written, and you've hit upon the key factor which is confidence. As you rightly said, if you look confident and determined you're less likely to be singled out. I still regard the best defence to not be there though, but when you do, this kind of mental preparation definitely helps.
  7. Einstein, is that you?
  8. Sure, chimpanzees (who actually show signs of depression when they lose a loved one), in fact most of the higher apes, prairie voles, certain species of penguins (off the top of my head, emperor penguins), elephant herds form lifelong family bonds (actually mourning their dead for several days) etc... It's not limited to our species. Indeed, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution_of_Monogamy
  9. Grim, I think you're overlooking those animals that form lifelong relationships. Scientifically (which I hate to reduce something like love down to) love could be seen as a misfiring of the brain to produce an overly strong attraction towards another female in order to form a stable relationship to propogate our genes. Sounds awful doesn't it? But of course, love is so much more than that, the wave of emotions it can produce is unparalleled. It is definitely something that we should strive for, in ourselves and others.
  10. Is communism therefore self destructive? I.e. does the lack of any official or establishment for basis of rights lead to its downfall?
  11. War Pigs - Black Sabbath Meh, love this album.
  12. Communism fails because of human weaknesses. It would be impossible for everyone to share in an exact common ideal with no manipulation or corruption with our current morals. In the future? Maybe...
  13. And I thought a star was egotistical... :P
  14. God I can relate to so many of these stories. I have to admit, my last girlfriend was a good friend for a very long time, it's just she was already going out with someone. Although that all kind of ended messily, which might have been why. I suppose you're right though, once a guy befriends your average girl she's less likely to want to go out with him. Another great read though, love's definitely a driving force in nearly all humans. I suppose if it was simple it wouldn't be as fun and rewarding when you find it.
  15. (my old dog) And baby penguins
  16. Sorry, when I say true communism, I mean the complete disestablishment of any organised system of ruling with all people working together equally for an equal share of the wealth and resources. That's what every 'communist' state has tried to do but never gets beyond the establishment of the vanguard government ruled by dictator (Stalin, Mao etc.) by the proletariat. Cuba came close. Inevitably, it fails because of human weaknesses.
  17. Who is your favorite person to discuss things with? Hmm, Nadri, Bubsa, warri0r, Satenza, MPC...etc. Who do you think would label themselves as your enemy, or beter yet, who do you strongly dislike on this board? Carlin If you could sit down with one person, and have a deep, philisophical conversation with them, who would it be? Locke, insane or Astraline If TIF was "real-life", who would you consider to be your group of friends? Anyone really, i'm not cliquey, but I suppose all the awesome guys that hang around here. Do you miss seeing anyone around? Rizla, Parabola If one person on this board were to become famous for doing something awesome for the world, or for maybe becoming a world leader, who do you think it would be? Bubsa, I mean, he's already on iTunes, the BBC, he's taking over the media! Hopefully trapical though, simply because it would probably be for a very good cause. Or maybe warri0r for a scientific revelation.
  18. Right... Keira Knightley, everytime.
  19. I can't really see any good reason for playing games other than they are insanely (well, the ones worth playing anyway) fun. And I don't think they need any more justification either. Life's short, and games are fun, so they should be played for that reason.
  20. Okay, on the theme of political ideologies... No true communist state has ever been established, anywhere. It has never gone beyond the establishment of the temporary government which just ends up being ruled by a single dictator.

Best band ever? Nah. But they certainly brought thrash metal to the mainstream and redefined a genre that was leaning more towards hair metal. There's no pretence with Metallica, they're straight up.
  22. The Ripper - Judas Priest
  23. Me neither, the topic title just reminded me of that kind of thing though
  24. Yikes, hopefully not to you. Haha, nah, well...not all of it :P
