  1. Your entirely missing the point. I'm not saying that when we protest against obscene cruelty to animals that therefore means that: a) we value the animals life over a humans. B) it means you can't also protest against the injustices towards humans They're not mutually exclusive.
  2. You didn't answer my question, what's your basis for it? I'll admit that I value a human's life over an animal's but why does that mean we shouldn't work towards better conditions and the removal of injustice for both?
  3. Out of interest, what's your ethical basis for valueing a human's life over an animal's? Speciesism? Are you saying you wouldn't protest over cruelty to animals?
  4. Borat Any of the Monty Python movies.
  5. This kind of cruelty to children makes me sick, absolutely physically sick. I applaud you for raising this issue because it is definitely one that needs to be raised, discussed, challenged and something needs to be done. The extent of the problem is now very serious and there is no obvious solution. But as you said raising awareness is definitely the first step, and as much as it offends me as a human being to even think about children being treated that way, it must be done. You said that after 20 years of prostitution the girls/women can be barely called human. I would go so far as to offer their captors the next step of the description, 'unhuman'.
  6. Aye, this is true, but the question is, was I really in love? Love is a two way street and I I believe the feeling of love in a relationship is much different than the feeling of 'love' in a a relationship that never really solidified. I can't pretend to know you you feel/felt, but I would say that with absolute conviction you can be in love on your own. It's unrequited love, it's painful, it can be uplifting and it's ultimately desperate and full of sadness. That doesn't make the love any less strong though, of that I can assure you, and if anything it can lead to some of the rawest expressions of love that you will ever see/hear/feel. Just to listen to Layla by Clapton for example.
  7. I was talking about after that step :) Oh sorry, in that case a black dwarf :P
  8. High five! Another Division Bell fan!
  9. Haha! What an awesome guy!
  10. But ultimately less interesting :P
  11. It's not going to be a black hole either. Just a giant, cooling rock probably not much bigger than earth. I believe it will turn into a white dwarf star? I don't remember exactly, but our sun is average. According to the P-L scale, or whatever it's called. Yeah it'll be a white dwarf star.
  12. Wow, imagine a giant pistol shrimp  I'd say a pack of angry killer whales. Don't let their smiles fool you...
  13. Wow, i'm curious now as to what happens next in that 'tangent' more than anything :P Emotions are definitely a fascinating subject, because they seem so unique to us ('You don't know how I feel!') yet the thing is millions if not billions of people have probably felt similar emotions before in their lives. That's evident from the fact that there is nearly always a song to describe how I feel even though i've been through so many seemingly unique emotions in my life. I can certainly relate to how you felt in the mall that day, of course my situation was slightly different but the basic emotional reaction was probably the same. I couldn't describe it unless it happened to me again, it was a memorable emotion yet mysterious. I can't say I enjoyed it either but it certainly made me feel wiser, more experienced yet somehow sad afterwards. Emotions are a strange thing, you can never predict how you will feel or what they will be like but we still yearn for higher levels of emotion, perfect love etc. Instead of being frightened by the mystery we charge forth in our lives looking for new emotional highs and inevitably hitting some lows as well. Great read though, can't wait for the next.
  14. Why do we need two? Keep it simple with one. Locked.
  15. True enough, i'm just (too) pedantic about misinformation when it comes to stuff like that.
  16. Not so sure about continuous, stars tend to swell when they run out of hydrogen after an initial collapse. If anything it's gonna get smaller before it gets bigger. No chance of supernova or black hole, the Sun is far too small.
  17. Word. Innit bled. Wait...

they have always been like this not just because of the current movement and all the rage. You've missed the point entirely. They're pandering to the current xenophobic feelings within the UK by presenting an on-the-surface watered down BNP message, thereby drawing in disgruntled middle-class voters who wouldn't normally consider an extremist party. They just sound radically conservative at the moment, but that's not what they're really about.

My problem with the BNP is that they are pandering to the current movement in the UK against immigration and youth crime with tough policies towards these problems. Yet, people are not realising that similar policies are being offered by other conservative parties but without the extreme policy baggage that comes with the BNP. The Nazi party used a similar trick to get into power, they glossed over the majority of their policies and instead focused on the feelings of hate people feel towards certain aspects of society. People thought 'well, if they share our dislikes they can't be all that bad'. In reality, they were. Of course, apart from that they are far too bigoted, racist, prejudiced and right wing for me.
  20. Over The Rainbow - Eva Cassidy My God, what a voice.

Yeah not too bad at all. I'm not particularly looking forward to history, but the rest should be okay. The end is in sight! Hurrah!
  23. Wahoo! Just what OT needs right now, a good shot in the arm of intelligent threads. I'll be looking forward to these :)
  24. Cmon like noone has ever done that before... The difference being though, he was a good musician (controversial?). Fair point though.
