Nice cartoony style :) Shading and shadows all look about right :) Scale it down in something so its only 300pixels wide though. ....and the TM doesnt look right, I think it should go.

I have a suspicion his legs are made of brown jelly by the way they seem to twist and bend in odd ways. Straighten the legs :)

Or for something considerably easier, a background of grass with the edge of an area of trees. Pixel looks ok so far, try a little shading perhaps. ...and define the hat a bit more clearly, there should be a line showing where the brim meets the raised part.

Hmm.... Colours. The new text design means it now has a darker range of colours than the background that its on, try getting some darker green into the background. The apple, although its now in more realistic colours it doesnt look quite as good, give it a more obvious green skin and give the core a different shade, perhaps a darker white. Or remove the core :wink: and put it back as the previous colour scheme. I'm vaguely wondering if the bottom left would look better with something more in it.... not sure but it does seem quite empty compared to the rest. Feel free to ignore anything I say if it doesn't sound right :)

I really don't think the poor fairy looks very happy. I think its a lot to do with the overall flatness of the face, if you removed the nose the face could almost be used as a ruler. Theres not enough contours to the profile and the jaw looks too heavy and sharp. The lips also seem to be turned down at the edges because of the rounded rather than slightly pointed ends to them, this enhances the depressed appearance. Have a look at this picture I rustled up out of google for an idea of a better profile: http://www.portrait-artist.org/pics-bal ... rofile.jpg I also think the upper edge of the thigh where it meets the arm is a little too high, lowering that would give a slimmer appearance as it then makes the visible leg look thinner. For a last thing before I get turfed out of the library I would say that blue is not the ideal colour for wings unless it matches the skin colour of what its attached to, and even then only for creatures for whom membranous wings are suitable e.g. lizards and bats. For a fairy, slightly transparent, skin-tinted wings would look nicer and more elegant than blue. ....now being forced out of the library :o

....and yet another novice artist goes off on the quest for the holy grail of shedloads of gps for not a lot of work.... Do as MeXe says and see if anyone likes designs you can make FOR FREE. Then if they are popular enough you could then ask for people to pay for any others you make, now with a reputation on the boards for making quality artwork.

Try having the 'aid' in a different colour to separate it from the SPL part :)

Put the words "5 MILL WALLPAPER COMPETITION" in the title and that'll get attention.

Lighting, yes I'd go with that. The shadows are really extreme, its hard to see where the items end and the shadow begins, a bit more contrast or lighter shadows would help. They also have an almost plastic-like shine on the bottom half of the mace and the sides of the helm which lowerers its realistic feel. The mace handle appears to be too short for someone to comfortably hold, it shouldnt be just long enough for a hand to grasp it. It should have some length so you have a good amount of leverage to swing the cannon ball on the chain about. Even at the angle its at it should still be longer. I dont think theres much of a problem between the chain and the handle but it does seem a little too light where it joins. Last niggle is the very visible join line between the dome of the helm and the sides, blending this out and smoothing the sharp edge at the side could improve it. Hope this helps :)

Try experimenting with cutomised gradients. My sig is 100% custom gradient + text which got hit by special effects in the GIMP :)

I like the idea. An art board as accessible as all the other public boards but for non-sig work only. And a mod to remove the sig posts that will get in somehow.... :wink:

Arrgh! Put the eyes where they ought to be! The picture doesn't look appealing with the bold areas of colour, a decent mouth and then as if as an afterthough, two crosses, way off the real position of the eyes and unbalanced. They dont even give the feeling of eyes because they clash so much with the style of the rest of it and they're slightly hidden. Put in some vectorised eyes slightly lower than the left cross and both at the same height. I would also advise losing the white areas where the ears were. Colour them the same as the hair. The text is not comfortable and easy for a viewer to read, not because of the font but because it's vertical and reading downwards. Vertical and reading upwards is acceptable but not downwards. In fact horizontal or slightly tilted from horizontal is best. Something to fill the large black area would also be a good idea, or maybe arrange your name to fill more of it. Try doing a border to frame the whole thing.

Well the design as a whole hits you in the face with the contrasting gentle swirls in the background and the harsh explosion but I dont think it really works very well. The explosion should have a focal point from which everything is coming from but you can see its still an abstract design which has been stretched out in points. It also has an uncomfortable stuck-on look in the way it neither blends or interacts with the background. The overall darkness of eveything doesnt help the explosive design whcih I think ought to be bright and almost glowing rather than dull, as if seen through a sheet of smoked glass. I like the florescent, semi-transparent green ribbon design in the background though, makes me think of those patterns you can make in the air with glow-sticks.

How to explain photoshop in a single post.... Well, how long is a length of string? Look up photoshop tutorials on google. You can find some very detailed ones often on art boards. And dont be afraid to poke about in any of the options in it to see what they do.
