I'm not entirely positive, but I think I broke my big toe as well, except I didn't go to the hospital. I tripped over my brother's shoe and landed on my toe, so that it was perpindicular to the floor. Hurt like a mo so badly, and now whenever I bend it it clicks and occasionally hurts if I step a certain way.

It still has to fetch the entire user row, so the speed increase would be negligible.

It's because kids lap up whatever they hear. For instance, my civics teacher told the class "Some people think that Bush is taking money away from social security and that there won't be any left in the future," and all my classmates have misconstrued that and parroted that phrase like mindless automatons whenever I ask them to give me a valid criticism of Bush. And before we start a political discussion, I don't care who is President because it, for the most part, doesn't affect me (unless something drastic happens) and because I am too lazy to follow the issues and have the balls to admit that, rather than choose to unconditionally hate a political leader on the basis of their beliefs, accent or region of origin. Similarly, children will take whatever you tell them even if it is grossly negative or unjust. For instance, the same civics teacher told our class that "a reason that many people do not like immigrants is because there is some evidence that immigrants are wasting our tax dollars and stealing our jobs." Now every white trash piece of... it's impossible to say without expletives... believes that all Mexicans are illegals and sucking our resources. The literally cheered when they heard that some Mexicans who work at the local Mexican restaurant got deported, and they moan and whine all day about them stealing our taxes when they don't even PAY TAXES OR HAVE JOBS. At the very least I have a job and have to pay something to the tune of 15% of my paycheck towards the government. Their spoiled selves don't even pay for anything in the first place or work, why should they have any right to complain? And with regards to immigrants stealing jobs - Maddox has a valid article regarding this. If I find an undereducated illegal who can do my job better than I than I'm Arnold Schwarzenegger. Back on topic, children are very impressionable. They say that rebellion hits during the teenage years, but unfortunately for our generation it hasn't hit in the right ways, as evidenced by my above observations. I'd say that I'm pretty anti-convention sometimes for the sake of being anti-convention, but still, at the very least I have the ability to take the majority of things I hear with a grain of salt and realize that not everything is objectifiably verifiable or true because it comes from an adult.

I've been told that if it weren't for my acne and my fat that I would be pretty damn good looking, but I don't think that either of those things are in a hurry to change so I'm shizzat outta luck. Actually, I take that back: I am working on the weight thing, but not much seems to help the acne, not even the almighty Proactiv.

This coming from the one who posted a relatively incoherent piece of babble. I wasn't even trying to be mean. When I said what I said I meant that since you are new we shouldn't be so incredibly punishing and expect you to know better, hence the fact that I said the bit about how it might be better in future to articulate better. I'm not going to lie, you in all likelihood do have more education than me, being that I am but a 14-year-old child, but the difference between you and me is that I choose to put effort into what I do rather than write incoherent forum posts. You just demonstrated to all of us that you can write reasonably well and make yourself understood (in your second post on this thread), and yet you chose to ignore basic grammatical conventions for saving two minutes' time, at the expense of the members of this community having to read utter gibberish. You are using the fact that we pointed you on your laziness as a crutch to help your weaksauce argument. Not once did either I or apinagez say "lol noob letz pick on em," we said that you should post properly and noted that since you are new you might not know what is expected of members of this forum. If it came across that way I apologize, but I still didn't explicitly state that the reason for your ultimately useless post was that you have a low post count. Have a nice day.

True that! I haven't seen such excellent articulation, delivery, and use of a period since I was in the third grade! Im4eversexy, people will enjoy you better if you at least make an effort to write reasonably well. Your post seems as though it could have been meaningful, but to many of us it appears to be garbled. Perhaps if you separated it into a few paragraphs and made use of multiple sentences instead of one or two run-ons, it may be more heartfelt and comprehensible. I would also like to point out that in an event such as this we see that a user in question is not a regular whom has never been told or learned to post properly but is in fact a new user, and therefore we should treat them as such. This is why we have post count!

Here's what he means. There are three votes: Keep it the way it is, remove it from posts, or remove it from posts and keep it in profile. Notice how the latter two choices share a common condition: REMOVE FROM POSTS. That means that if more people vote for the latter two combined than for keeping it the way it is, then MORE PEOPLE WANT IT REMOVED FROM POSTS THAN KEPT THE SAME, AND THE ONLY DEBATE IS WHETHER WE WILL PUT POST COUNTS IN PROFILES. You say that the keep options should be grouped, but the primary decision that is being made here is whether or not the post count will stay next to posts, not whether the count will be in a profile. It isn't "biased" to group two together. All viable outcomes have been accounted for, why would there be any need to create a second poll? You've already raised your own post count by at least 10 by posting all of the nonsense that you already have on here. I have no idea why I'm even posting here again. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. I don't see babies dying, kittens being raped or Nazis marching as a result of there being post count. We can just leave it the way it is and save the admins the trouble of wading through the phpBB template files (ugh...thank God for easymod!).

THe karma system would be abused I think because of the fact that people would try to hurt others' karma based on subjective things, like if two people were debating one might try to report the others' post on the basis of "it's not right!!111oneone" I think we should keep the post count; I don't judge others by it, but if I see a person who is particularly stupid, clueless, needlessly mean or a combination thereof, I glance at their post count - if it is low then I can safely assume that it is a newbie acting up, if it is high then it's somebody with a problem.

Well, I would say everything I've always wanted to say and confess to my crimes, then do some stuff. Not saying what, but all red-blooded men who haven't done what I'm talking about will want to do it before they die. Consensually, of course.

Exactly, I said it before - it's pocket change considering how much is put it other areas :-? Why exactly should we change? -

It isn't that hard. Just use both systems for a couple of years everywhere and people will slowly get used to it. But you're missing the point. Such an infrastructure change would cost MILLIONS, if not BILLIONS of dollars, for using the same systems. Kittens aren't being killed as a result of us not using the metric system, and as for the conroversy regarding the orbiter and non-conversion, guess whose fault that is? Whoever neglected to convert and/or specify the units. You know, the metric system could be better, but it'd be so good that it would cost millions of hardworking taxpayers even more money to convert to a system for the sake of being like the rest of the world. When there becomes a legitimate need for conversion or a feasible way to change it, then the US will start listening. Of course, they could simply emphasize the metric system in schools more so than they do now and pass a law requiring all citizens born after a certain year to make use of the metric system (since they would have adequate education), but that would still likely cost a sizeable sum of money, and many teachers are ill-equipped to teach such a "strange" system. Case in point - it works, and until there becomes a pressing need or an easy way to convert it won't change. -
Wow. I used to think that Frontpage was uber1337, but quite honestly unless you're a business it's useless. For instance, my dad is computer savvy but knows no HTML. He bought Frontpage because he has a website that he updates at least once a day for his business. He doesn't want to screw around with portal software, includes, headers, etc., he just wants it to work. And work it does. And when he has to design a site for somebody else, which happens quite often, it takes him half an hour instead of a week. Case in point - for small businesses that need fast solutions, FrontPage works. For a hobby site however you should write the code yourself instead of doing some lame WYSIWYG crap. I use EditPlus for all my codewriting and it serves me well. In order, learn HTML, CSS and then PHP. You'll be glad you did that instead of relying on WYSIWYG editors. They're designed for quick, dirty editing work for businesses that cannot afford to hire somebody to code a custom site, not for one-man hobby operations who should learn HTML.

It's pretty much those ignorant foreigners who stereotype US citizens without even using apostrophes. As somebody mentioned earlier, it's an infrastructure kind of thing. I don't see anybody having a heart attack or killing babies over the fact that we don't use the metric system, so there is little reason to spend billions upon billions of dollars to change it. Yemen is in the Middle East, not Africa. -
do you enjoy reading? why? if u dont then also why?
Kwisatz replied to devilgirl921's topic in Off-Topic
I read fiction, but what I like to read most often is Wikipedia. When I'm bored I just sit on Wikipedia and follow the see also links. In this way I've learned a lot of useful and not-so-useful stuff, and my Jeopardy watching is henceforth more enjoyable :D. -
You could do that through the header() function and that's what I usually do anyway, but if you have a page that's displayed for 10 seconds that tells users to update their bookmarks and such then it provides information and doesn't "break" the back button, since you can just hit back then hit back within another ten seconds; not especially difficult if you ask me. I think that article was aimed at people who use the meta refresh and set it to a low time so that you have to hit back really really fast - which is unwarranted.

Trillian is insuperior in every way. Make sure you grab the 2.0 beta line, much better. Inferior is the proper word for insuperior, for reference. Anyway I agree. Gaim has more options, takes less resources, is more customizable and doesn't cost money, as opposed to Trillian, which you either have to live with the free version of or buy (or resort to illegal activity, which is never cool). Gaim is also portable, so you can stick it on a USB stick and have your IM with you at all times. I do this so that I can IM at work without installing any programs. It also keeps all your logs in one place so that you can call people on stuff (very helpful, especially when dealing with companies that do business through IM and you receive support that way).

That is totally false. Certain "types" of Windows, namely the 32-bit ones, will run on virtually any x86 machine that is fast enough. And motherboards and hard disks usually play nice, it is very rare that a chipset is incompatible with a hard disk, and even then a firmware fix is usually released. Now, x86_64 WinXP Pro will only run on a motherboard with a 64-bit chip, but even then that's more processor-dependent, since sockets like LGA775 are both 32 and 64-bit processor-capable.

You could also implement an HTML redirect using the meta tag: The 10 is the number of seconds to display the page with the redirect before redirecting to blah.com, which should be a proper URL but isn't due to my laziness :D. Of course this would have to be done manually, or with PHP: Redirect your stupid self! <?php // Get GET variable $reqpage = stripslashes($_GET['page']); $arr_reqpage = explode(".", $reqpage); $newpage = "//" . $arr_reqpage[0] . "//"; if(!isset($_GET['page'])) { $newpage = "//"; } if($reqpage == "forms.xhtml") { $newpage = "//"; } echo(''); ?> Please ignore any errors since it's 2:30 in the morning and I can't sleep.

This saddens me. The end of the AMD era is over - but at least now their chips are even better for the money!

In my opinion you should have gotten a single-core processor and a 7800gtx for better performance and longevity. I have a Pentium D 805 O/Ced to 3.4Ghz and my Athlon 64 3500+ is still faster day-to-day, probably because of the FSB but that's beside the point. The point is that dual-core processors are not yet useful for many applications and it isn't necessarily wise to invest in them for gaming, since a video card has more effect on game performance than the processor does.

um what im not 9-10 lol im 14 k what im not a freshman and what did that have to do with the post? Now now children, let's read for comprehension. After being on these forums I now see why such a skill is being stressed in public schools. Did I ever say anything in my post to the effect of "Moose585 is a crying freshman?" NO I DID NOT. THE RELEVANCE IS THAT YOU LEFT SCHOOL FOR THE SUMMER AND THAT I DID TOO, AND I AM TALKING ABOUT HOW PEOPLE CRY, SINCE THE TITLE OF THE POST SAYS "WHEN THE TEARS DON'T COME." I apologize if I seem upset but it seems as though you are trying to discount my post without any reasonable grounds for doing so.

I never understand when freshman who are going to the same school next year cry to their friends on the last day of school. We have telephones, social networking sites, AIM, MSN, Skype... and they'll see each other in two months. Woop-de-doo. But I can understand if somebody's moving. I don't want to move until I finish senior year, and then I'm moving far, far away from this small, narrow-minded place :D .

That looks like a really expensive coat hanger. I'd feel important hanging my coat on it. :P I have an iPod. Black 30gig. I don't boast the iPod's superiorty or anything - but I will say that I personally like the controls and interface better than the other ones I've tried. I also like that it syncs with both my iBook and my Mac Mini. You, sir, make sense. I commend you for your valid and justified ownership. *Hands GhostRanger a cookie*

Omg, I could have written this. Amen brother! I dont know anybody who takes the time to write a long paragraph explaining why ipod sucks on a forum besides you... We need to read for comprehension. Anyway, some of us like to post our opinions, cite statistics, give information, etc. in order to contribute to and bolster intelligent conversation, rather than post ultimately useless one-line pieces of spam that do nothing but complain.

To protect your devices and MP3 players: http://www.shieldzone.com/ Works wonders. There was a video review I saw where a guy took a key to his Motorola Q with the above protector on it - not a single scratch. Now that it's protecting my Vision:M I can verify this - it's nigh unscratchable, like a thin layer of jelly almost, soft yet protective. Very good if you don't want to tote around a large case.
