On April 12th, 2061, Zephram Cochrane launched an ICBM from a decomissioned World War 3 missile base in Montana. Upon reaching orbit, a craft emerged from the nose of the missile, which fell harmlessly to earth. The craft moved two nacelles into position, then jumped to 1.04 times the speed of light... ...Or so says the Star Trek Universe. Gene Roddenberry's point when setting this date was to remind us how far back we are falling on space exploration. The day we explore the stars, I hope that world hunger has been solved, peace is everywhere, and Earth is truly a paradise. Until that day happens, I don't really care about space travel. We need to deal with our terrestrial problems before dealing with the extraterrestrial ones. The launch scene is frickin' hilarious. "Wait, I forgot something!" "What?" "We can't launch without it!" "We have to abort, Geordi!" "No wait, here it is!" [beholds a translucent plastic green octagon, then slides it in a device and hits a button marked play] [steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride" plays loudly as the Phoenix lifts off with everybody watching] ^^^ One of my favorite Star Trek moments, that and pretty much anything from Star Trek IV. And I have the same birthday as Gene Roddenberry: August 19. I think it's pretty funny how Star Trek is one of my all time favorite franchises too :D.

Some peoples' parents have more money than sense. Either that or they're trying to buy love :D That's what I say. All my friends are getting Easter presents, and I get an easter basket. That's all I want. I really wonder what will happen when such people journey out into the world after they graduate high school, how they'll get on.

apt-get upgrade And whereas you need two reboots to install a game that requires a new version of directX, and possibly another to get a better driver for your graphics card, most package managers on Linux do all of that for you, automatically, without a restart. True. Macs are easier to use for your average Grandma too, so they'd probably get to the market before someone has finally managed to create a usable version of Linux. Like, newb-usable. I always yum'd for updates. But see, that's just an example of how things vary from distro to distro - some are RPM, some aren't. And the other thing that's annoying about Linux is that when you get a single RPM, it has dependencies on like three other packages that are missing or out of date. So when you try to get those packages the packages that are required by that one are out of date or missing, and so on and so forth. I'm sure there's some kind of way of making it work, but half the time it's really too much trouble. I'm pro-Linux, but the sad fact is right now that nobody can agree on the most popular Linux distribution that should be supported the most, or any APIs, or anything for that matter, and as such no two Linux installations are alike, making it difficult to develop and install programs and drivers on (Especially drivers, ugh). Windows installations all share a basic common ground in terms of directory structure, folders, etc. If the vast majority used Fedora or Ubuntu and we got some real decent hardware support in the form of some kind of halfway-decent device/driver management package, then I'd be on board. But until then, hells no - Linux is just a fun thing to screw aroudn with. I will agree though that Linux for servers is vastly preferable to a Windows server.

If you call it lunux and call an x86 a "windows processor" then I'm willing to bet that you don't know too much about linux :/ But either way Linux is so impossibly varying and nonstandard that it's very hard to keep it up to date and compatible. The thing about Windows is that it's less flexible then Linux but on the upshot is more standardized. This is why people can more easily develop games for it, whereas no two distros (or even installations I'd say) of Linux are alike. Such problems with compatibilty would be a nightmare for tech support. As such I'd have to say that Mac would port their OS to run on x86-compatible computers rather than just Macs, and everyone would keep their hardware. This would make the most sense economically.

I don't think wrestling is stupid, but it's not my kind of thing. Human nature is innately prone to violence, and wrestling is just a fulfillment as such. It's entirely understandable.

Alright, as a disclaimer: I AM asking for dating advice on a forum from people I do not know. I DO have friends to ask, but they will probably tell somebody. I DO have parents to ask, but they fail to realize how things have changed. I am NOT an idiot. **EDIT: Read my recent post because that's what I'm concerned about at the moment. Sadly I think Death by Pod was right. Anyway, I was speaking with one of my friends-of-a-friend on AIM, and they casually introduced into conversation that their current partner is a bad boyfriend. I then said that I was probably worse, and she said that she would consider going out with me if... Now, three days later... I really wouldn't mind going out with this person at all :D. But I need to know a few things first: What is the grace period that I have to wait so that her ex doesn't get mad at me for asking her out? I don't really know her now-ex too well, and we haven't spoken for around... 6 years now. It will probably even be a while before he finds out that I go out with her, if I do. Is it alright to date an acquaintance? As in, a friend of a friend. We've spoken a few times and get along pretty well together but we're not real close or anything. Thanks :). Please don't needlessly flame me. As of yet I haven't flamed anybody who's asked for advice on this kind of thing (yes, I checked), and I would appreciate it if the favor was returned. But if you have some kind of valid constructive criticism then by all means post it, no matter how harsh.

It's always nice to know that even after you leave you will be remembered. You should feel very priveleged and proud of yourself for being such a good poster, your contributions have been invaluable. Have a nice time on your non-Scapeboard ventures. Best of luck :D

Cmon peoples, I'm smarter than that! :D I wonder as well. I'm not intelligent, but I'd say that I try to research things before making an answer and stand by and appropriately and logically justify my opinion.

Paris Hilton is disgusting. She is famous because she is rich. She is not attractive, she cakes on her makeup because she lacks personality. She is also setting a bad role model for all of today's gullible teenage girls, and consequently half of the girls I know act like total ditzes and tools because they think they're being cute or that a guy will like them that way. No, screw that, I'll take somebody who has character and some semblance of wit about them, not a trained stereotypical marketing object who is made by their clothes, gadgets and body.

noob lolz!1joifjwnoeinfoieawnf OM GF I R PYMP111oneone You should do us all a favor and remove yourself from the gene pool so you don't create more morons like yourself. On topic, I believe that regular reggae is indeed better. I don't like reggae all that much, but reggaeton is worse than regular reggae, hands down.

I don't think I've ever seen such a vast generalization.

See, what makes me mad is that I didn't like American Idiot ever, even when it came out. I told everyone that Green Day was being stupid and dissing Bush for no apparent reason except for the fact that it sells records to kids who value "lyrical poetry" over instrumentation but don't like poetry when we read it in school, even if the latter is better. I also said that their older material was decent but even then not good, and everyone called me a [bleep]. Now everyone hates Green Day, but only because they're "poseurs," not because their songs suck and they are trying to be cutting edge political analysts and protesters, despite the fact that all the band members barely finished high school because they sat around smoking Mary Jane all day. And what's even more ironic is that the people who call(ed) me "gay" don't even know that Billy Joe has admitted to being bi. Such a sad world we live in.

One of my new favorite bands is Savatage, and I'm quite surprised that nobody has heard of them before that I talk to. They are an excellent prog metal band, and I find it hard to believe that they don't rank up there in fame with Iron Maiden and the like. I just got their album "Hall of the Mountain King," and virtually every track on it is listenable, and usually quite enjoyable. Anyone else heard of them or like them?

I'm sorta anti-iPod, but iPods actually do have the highest service rates according to PC Magazine. As for all that crap, I'm sorry it broke, but you can't hang yourself over possessions. They're just possessions. You can get everything taken away from you except for your spirit, and just keep that in mind.

Yes, I'm a Richard because I am skeptical. I don't know about you, but hearing on an internet forum from somebody whom I do not know who lives in New York where there are few trees (yes, I've been to Manahattan a number of times) that some kid stuck his head out the window to spit on cars and then got mangled by a tree branch. Post a news article or take a picture of the memorial. That aside, if you're going to do something like stick what is arguably your most important body part out the window of a moving vehicle then you can't expect excessive sympathy. Nobody deserves to die, but somebody who does that obviously has no common sense.

lol i almost forgot about him. i mean if you are gonna bs about your life on a forum at least make it realistic... ie. dont post pics from the second page of aol images and pretend its "your" lion cub :D He couldn't figure out how to work the digital camera, or find the model number. It was so disappointing :D.

I just dl'ed the runeweb.net hiscore lookup tool, and it came up as negative on Norton and Kaspersky. That's not to say that the guy didn't go to the trouble to create his own trojan, but still, I think you're safe.

Removed the other quotes, was getting too big! I know that AMD is better, I agree and I want to buy one aswell :P But I was just trying to say that they overheat, and they dont stop, P4 stop. But the fact is get a good cooling system! ~komodo P4 and AMD don't stop. If by stop you mean stop working, then I imagine that both processors would stop working once they both reached similarly-high temperatures, but the shutdown is motherboard-controlled. The magic number for most motherboards seems to be 60C though, so they both "stop" at the same temp for the most part. Sorry if I seem overbearing, but that's what it is :D.
-
Yup, and as you using AMD, you need some big cool system, AMD has the highst rates of "melting down" ~komodo That's pure bull, if you don't mind my saying. If anything, Intel's P4 Prescotts have a reputation for running hot. The highest my Athlon 64 3500+ has EVER gotten with the stock heatsink is 35 C, and many P4s are up in the 40s and even 50s. Yup :P But AMD keeps running when they overheat, P4 dont, so the chance of losing your processor by not having fans is bigger with AMD! ~komodo That's controlled by the motherboard, not the processor. I have no idea where you heard such a thing, but it's no way true. Almost all motherboards today shut the system down once the processor reaches a certain temperature, and a processor overheating is not a common occurance by any means. The bottom line is that AMD runs cooler on the whole and most if not all motherboards shut down the system when the processor gets hot enough.

I doubt he died from getting scratched on the face, but it's just a wild guess.

You should. Bumping posts is rather annoying. Just use Firefox if you're so concerned about freezing. The sounds are terrible anyway. If you really wanted a solution then I'm sure formatting your computer would work, but it'd be a lot of work.

I'm sorry, but I didn't find it too funny.
