I shall be playing, but since I have been testing the game with Paul it seems unfair to start at the same time as everyone else, so I will start a few days later.

Infrastructure Project: Project: The Feldburg Lightening Observation Platform and Metrological Office is established, with a remit to locate lightening strikes in the Blackforest. Results: Tourism increases, resulting in slightly (+5%) relations with Foreign Powers. Reason 1: Lightening Strikes are located when they first strike, allowing for fire trucks to be sent to fight forest fires, a major problem in the Black Forest. Meaning less people die...always a bonus. Reason 2: Storm fronts can be seen at a slightly greater distance, allowing more time to disseminate information, preventing deaths. Reasons 3: The Feldburg Lightening Observation Platform and Metrological Office (FLOPMO) holds 'Lightening Watches', which are big national events, filled with explosions and what not. Proposed cost: 500,000£ Proposed time to completion: 3 months.

Not like we can do anything until Spork responds to some actions. And though numerous deals are being pursued by Germany, these deals are kept off of the table while the planning takes place. In other, not-so-important news, Christmas.

Counter-Arguement: Issue: Use of Future Information for advantage Resolution: All resources discovered after 1920 are randomised in the local area preventing one man and a drill discovering an important resource cache. All events after 1920 are removed and may be replaced, disgressionarly, by the Moderator based on arguements as to why they should still happen, and other, invented, events could be proposed based on events going on in the world at the time. Reason 1: Nothing is ever innevitable, Britain surrendering to the Nazis after France fell was 'innevitable' but didn't happen, as an example. Reason 2: If this is an alternative history then it follows that things would not directly follow real history. Reason 3: If America was reduced to Alaska in the next 34(5 months) years, then a random event for the Manhatten Project, giving double speed on atomic research, would be ridiculous. Thus nothing should be taken for granted and everything should be asked for, or decreed by the moderator. Mather: Ekofisk on a map. Counter-Arguement: Issue: Scandinavian Oil Drilling in the North Sea, specifically Ekofisk, without proper preperation. Resolution: Scandinavian efforts fail. Reason 1: The presence of Oil is not a known, it is a prediction, based on the presence of Oil on the shore, which, as we can see on the map, is not near the shore. Reason 2: The technology to build Oil Platforms at sea, beyond the 'sight of land', did not exist in 1919.* Reason 3: The North Sea is a large area, an expedition to locate Oil might not actually yield the discovery of Oil. *You can, if you have excellent eyesight and it is a clear day, see France from Dover. The distance from Ekofisk is greater than the distance from France to Dover by an order of magnitudes. & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_platform#History

Counter-Arguement: Issue: Use of Future Information for advantage Resolution: All resources and events discovered/occured after 1920 are randomised, preventing foreknowladge. Reason 1: Claiming Uranium, Gold Reserves or Oil Fields which were not know about at the time gives unfair advantages. Reason 2: Small events make big differences, like chance meetings, seeing something that shouldn't have been seen, or being distracted at a key moment...Or kicking a briefcase accidently and moving it around a table leg Reason 3: Planning for major events can give massive and unfair advantages.

I far prefer 3 months per turn and 1 reset per year.

Ico, please present your counter-counter argument in the correct format.

Project: Action:Germany opens Bletchley Park in Potsdam. Result: A site known as Bletchley Park is opened. Reason 1: Monarch can do whatever they want. Reason 2: Classified. Reason 3: Classified. Time to completion: 1 Year. Cost: 500,000£ Research: Action: Germany announces joint research with the United States on Pill Boxes Result: Development of Pill Box Defensive Installations, which upgrade Trench Networks for 75,000£ per segment. They double defence against Infantry, don't effect tanks, and can be countered by six hours of sustained artiliary fire. Reason 1: Pill Boxes house permenant Machine guns on a raised platform, allowing the land to be surveyed and targets selected. Reason 2: Pill Boxes are built in an interlocking pattern, allowing for crossfire. Reason 3: Pill Boxes are built with telephone cabling, linked to each other and a central bunker placed out of artiliary range, allowing for co-ordinated attacks/defence. Proposed research time is one year and six months. Proposed reserch cost is 1,000,000£, split equally between the United States and Germany.

Counter Argument: Contention: Subsidies Issue: Industry needs markets to flourish, extended growth floods market, resulting in market collapse. Solution: Subsidy costs spiral relative to Industry Level. Reason 1: You can't pay yourselves more than you earn. Reason 2: Subsidised corporations have no incentive to cut costs or innovate. Reason 3: Eventually everyone has a car, fridge and whatever, so profit margins decrease.
-
Cost should probably be higher for that...But I am sure spork will balance when he has more time.
-
I am just thinking that if we are always vague then when 5 projects complete, four of them secret, it will appear as though one action generated a massive advantage, which, from experiance, annoys people no end.
-
Retech, perhaps you could include some indicators as to how much of an increase you are looking for with your projects and researches. For example: Action: Japan announces research on improved aircraft carriers Result: New Unit type- The Water-Plane, costs 60,000£ with upkeep of 6,000£, New Unit type- Early Aircraft Carrier, costs 4,000,000£, upkeep of 800,000£, carries 10 Water-Planes. Action: Japan announces research on improving industrial efficiency through scientific solutions Result: Industry increases by 0.08 Action: Japanese government subsidizes heavy industry conglomarates like Mitsubishi and works with those conglomarates and workers to create legendary Japanese efficiency Result: Industry increases by .1 That way other players would know what kind of effect you were looking at, and what they should be getting if they ask. Just a thought =P
-
One the one hand, yes, you are right. On the other hand...The game is already running, and it doesn't hurt.
-
I am, I don't think it is standard practice though. =P
