  1. I don't exactly agree with the article, but the generalizations stated by the editor are at least generalizations. The editor saying "Many romans were unhappy" makes more sense then someone saying "the editor is wrong, Romans didn't think like that". No one, Editor or tip.iter, knows the exact thoughts of cultures past, thats why there are generalizations. Also, Ginger, two points. First off the Potato Famine was in 1849 and the editor was talking about what, the late 1700s? I'm sure there were a few British immigrating regardless of the year anyways, it's not like only the Irish immigrated to the United States. Also, sure Alexander may have listened to Aristotle but how come Aristotle was so different than Plato? How come Plato was so different from Socrates? Do you think Plato was pleased that Aristotle didn't follow in Plato's footsteps and instead worked with a separate branch of Philosophy? If anything the lineage of Socrates - > Alexander tells us that the young don't like to follow in their elder's footsteps. On an offensive note, it does seems that the articles have been more hastily done as of late. There is also less and less talk about Runescape in its actuality, strange for a newspaper named after a Runescape website
  2. I find it amusing that if you commit a felony you loose the right to vote for life. Makes sense I suppose but it still seems kind of weird :-s
  3. That was pretty cool, thanks for sharing. Funny how some of us talk to each other on forums for years and never even think of meeting in RL but a few of us take that step. Glad it worked out for you guys :
  4. Yea Jagex is pretty stringy on any customer service help that isn't by the book. Ha, check out the corperate page. Apparently enough people pestered them there that they actaully put up disclaimer in bolded red text
  5. I wouldn't worry about it too much anyway, I mean heck your a senior at Berkley! Do you have any idea how many people wish they were in your shoes?
  6. Ixfd64, I really don't think we ever actaully exchanged words in the past six years but I feel like we known each other all this time. You are truly one of the the most vetran players I can think of and I am shocked by your story. I am equally surprised that you played as long as you did, more than seven years. Wow, thats a lot of time. While it will be nice to be forced out of the addiction so to speak, I do find it sad that all the time you put into the game was just suddenly taken away from you. Oh well, at least you will have fond memories of your time playing and I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m sure you have the emails of several friends you met online. Danny, thanks for playing Runescape, you made it more enjoyable for many of us.

So the authorities caught you having chair races in the hallway of an abandoned hospital and you had to go to Court over it? You obviously would of pleaded guilty since you got caught "red-handed" right? So if the Judge let you off, what was the point of the Court Case? Sorry I'm confused. :? This is neither here nor there but whatever. We didn't get caught inside the building, they just knew someone was in the building and earlier that night someone reported an abandoned car in a parking lot 1 mile away. They put two and two together, correctly, but that was all the evidence they had. We had a pretty solid story (lie) that we told the cops when they questioned us and we were released with an apology. Scares the crap out of you though, I never want to be that close to something like that again. Anyway on a simular note does this thread remind anyone of SW_Raichu?
  9. There is the Three Man Rule. Five people carry missile codes and it takes three of them to launch a missile. I think the five people are the President, VP, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. The President does play a big role though, it's not like the other four can get together and launch a missile without him knowing. He can veto the actions whenever he wants but in case he's incapacitated or something the others can act.
  10. Work as a research operative for the C.D.C (Center for Disease Control) You work in a lab wearing one of those white spacesuits handing diseases that can kill you in less than 24 hours. If there is an outbreak of a some bad disease somewhere you get on a private government jet with the rest of your co-workers and you fly out there immediately. You arrive in some dangerous part of the third world and with a military escort arrive at the local village, form a quarantine and try to save the lives of those infected. It's a pretty sweet deal, I mean imagine going to work knowing that you might be eating lunch in Kenya that day. A friend of my microbiology professor had the job and he said he would be in his office and a co-worker pops his head in the door and says "Wanna go to Egypt? There is a TB outbreak... the helicopter in the parking lot leaves in 5 minites." The next day people would be saying in the breakroom "Yea, we got shot at again, had to call in an Apache to secure the ridge before we went in. Made it back in time for the game though, can't believe the Yankee's won" The job has it all, danger, excitement, travel, and you get to save people's lives. Beat that :
  11. Hitler couldn't reach the US, and if her used them (no way they would have more than a few) then the US would just get even more pissed off. Germany as a country was in shambles a few years the US entered. Near the end of the war, everyday there were daily thousands of bombers obliterating every major city in Germany. Near D-Day (when Hitler was closest to having a bomb) Germany was in shambles, barly 5% of its info structure was alive. Meanwhile the US homeland (the size of the entire European continent, with vast natural resources) was untouched and pumping out planes, bombs, and guns 24/7. Germany could have only pissed off the US a little bit more, but no way would they have "won". As for Nagasaki and Hiroshima? Firebombing other towns killed just as many people. The only real difference was firebombing used 500 planes and thousands of gallons of napalm, a nuke uses 1 plane and 1 bomb. So why use the Nuke? Well, intimidation. The US could have firebombed 10 cities and Japan wouldn't care, but after seeing how powerful 1 bomb is? They knew they couldn't win. Should countries have Nukes? Well if there were none than large scale, WW2 type wars would be more likely (China or Russia vs the US would have been inevitable) So as arrogant as it sounds, I think only counties like the US, UK/France, Russia, and China should have nukes. If the US, Russia, and China have nukes, no large scale war will ever break out between them. You can never take out every nuke a country owns and it only takes one to kill your citizens, thus China and the US can't have a large scale war since in the end the looser will just use their nukes and both sides know this is the case. It's also good for UK/France/Germany to have a few nukes to prevent counties like Russia from getting to aggressive. If only superpowers had nukes they might get a little cocky and push the other counties around. But counties like the UK and France are big enough to be responsible with the nukes, but small enough to be respected and allied with dozens of other mid sized counties, thus providing security for all of them. Then there are countries like Pakistan and Iran, counties that have/want nukes and are quite unstable. Not to be racist but the fact that these counties are Islamic is a problem. An unstable non Islamic county (let's say Mexico) could have nukes and it wouldn't be that bad since they aren't stupid enough to use them knowing their citizens would be killed in the counterstrike. However Islamic counties are a problem, you see there are radicals that believe God will protect them and their mission is to kill as many non believes as possible. Yes these people exist in other religions as well but in Islam these people often become leaders. If one of these people come to power in a nuclear capable country... it will only take a minor spark of global affairs to set off a nuclear exchange.

Yup, that sucks. I have a clean record but know how your feeling. I do a lot of lock picking and twice have been called in the next day as a suspect, so like I said, I know what your feeling. I got off for free both times for one reason though, NEVER STEAL/BREAK ANYTHING. Sure picking your way into an abandoned hospital and having chair races down the hallways is one thing... but stealing laptops and a plasma TVs? *whistle* That's just dumb. Thats serious cash and the owners are going to be pissed. Both times with me there was no real evidence (since we left everything the way it was) and there was no need to bring anything to court since nothing was missing and no one really cared. Oh and by the way, the first time I got caught it scared me strait for a good 3 years. Eventually I started doing it again and got almost caught again, this time I'm taking the sign. I no longer do stupid stuff like that, yes it's fun and it's a thrill but it's too risky. One felony and your future is pretty messed up. You can't get a government job, you can't go to college... heck, you can't even work at Target with a felony
  13. Personal favorite, but you need a marble/ball bearing. cross your middle finger over your index finger. Now put a marble on a table and roll it inbetween those two fingers. You will feel two distinct marbles. Sounds lame but it feels pretty cool since you know there is one marble but your body is screaming that there is two. Basic concept behind it is, let's say your using your right hand, and you are then feeling the marble with the right side of your middle finger and the left side of your index finger. Your nervous system doesn't understand that your fingers are crossed, thus it tells you there are 2 marbles. :

Read the entire thread or look at the website. She does Advertising/Sales.
  15. Good article, a few typos but it got the point across. I see where you're going with this, some things (i.e Iraq) were planned badly. However I think i am going to have to agree with the Editor on this one, a lot of the things the government does are probably a lot harder than it looks like. All my friends keep saying that if so-and-so is elected president then the country will be fixed, but I think the editor has a point, if it was so easy to fix then how come no one has done it yet?

Interesting situation Ash is in. The new girl put all the cards on the table and if the choice of becoming a pseudo-lesbian isn't hard enough there'e the whole Emily factor floating around. I mean, even is Ash wants to "go all the way" he still might feel conflicted interest with the new girl since he likes Em. I honestly wouldn't have the slightest clue what I would do in that extremely hypothetical situation. :|
  17. How do i kill a thread with so much potential that quickly?
  18. Nice to know people still remember my little night :) Oh and thanks Darkrick for the for the copy paste job. I saw the thread title and I was opening up a new window when I saw your post  Hire Trapical ;) Well, I charge $27 an hour, and that includes three associates of mine, all quite experienced and fully equipped and adept with lock picks, radios, and full black jumpsuits. If you're interested, I recommend the "Tech Package" which, for a flat rate of $100, gets you a command van with two techies and GPS units on all teams. You can also purchase up to seven outdoor sentries in camouflage for $60/each. Night vision goggles may also be given to the sentries for an extra $20 per pair of goggles. Note, if you want the night goggles you will need to notify me of your purchase at least 15 business days in advance to allow me proper time to obtain them. In all seriousness though, if anyone needs advice on how to do a certain part of a prank, how to pick locks, or what equipment to buy and where to buy it... just send me a pm, seriously. It saddens me that while I love doing things like senior pranks or picking my way into abandoned buildings and exploring them at night, I need to stop doing it. The only real use of that skill is robbery, something I'm not interested it. Maybe if my MCAT score was low, but (fortunately?) it was not. So, since I can longer longer do these things, I will have to settle with just giving advice and hearing the stories of others :
  19. Crysis > Halo There was an article in Popular Science about this, it was talking about how when the graphics get "too" realistic, to the point where they are almost human, people tend to look for minor imperfections and mistakes, or something like that. I've never seen (or heard of) Crysis. And it makes sense that they would do that. I mean, in runescape you're not going to say "That grass is too grainy!" when the grass is just a huge patch of green. You never heard of Crysis? It's coming out to PC soon and even the biggest fans of other FPS games admit Crysis is far superior graphically. I can't really even explain how awesome the graphics are, and screenshots don't do the game justice, you need to see a full motion HD video. Anyway, let me put it this way. -The game is sponsored by nVida (since you need about $2000 of their graphics cards to play the game) -The game is sponsored by Windows (since it is the first real game to use Direct X 10, which means XP users have to buy Vista to play it) -Essentially no PC in the world today can play the game at max quality. The makers predict that it will take two to three years until a store bought PC can play the game in it's highest quality. Oh, and good article, never thought about Runescape like that before. :)
  20. Wait, what? Of course the school should have anti-plagiarism software, how is it unfair that the teachers actaully require you to do your own work? And don't tell me you couldn't talk it over with the teacher if your real work was considered plagiarism. If that really is the case, where your original work was deducted points since the teacher simply said it was plagiarism, and that same teacher didn't let you talk it over with her... give me her address and I will personally write and send her a letter of complaint, gladly.
  21. Can't really blame them I guess. It's not like you can play a N64 in a side room of the library during classes, why should you be able to do it on a computer the school purchased for doing work? *runs away from the bricks people are about to throw*
  22. Dude I am totally trying this thing at 4am in my college. Last week I downloaded a 640mb patch in like 50 seconds at 4:10am.
  23. : Ha, yea... except for the personal life. -.- The girl that I hoped to impress with my score grew really distant from me over summer. I guess I should thank her though, I honestly think me wanting to impress her really hardened my determination to work harder and it helped me study those long hours. But alas, it was for naught *sigh*
  24. Who do you take me for? I will split my donations, half to totally random people I see in RS, and half to tip.it since I feel like I owe the site something after six years. The first 250 million gp (wow that sounds like a lot) would be given to the readers of the tip.it general. I think I might ask a crew member if I can get a link to from the front page of tip.it. Not sure exactly how I will do it then, maybe require people to a post on a thread with their RS name and idea on who they are donation to. Maybe I'll make a deal that I will give you three quarters of a million if you pm me with a screen shot of a receipt that you just donated, not sure if thats legal in terns of RS though. I'll have to ask a RS mod beforehand. While I'm waiting around in RS for people on tip.it to find me and get their 500k, I will be walking around f2p. I will try to strike up a conversation with random people and if they talk to me, and seem friendly I will bring up if they plan to donate in the future. If I hear a yes or "probably" I'll give them the 500k and encourage them to do so.
  25. Lol, fantastic job Merc and Suzi. Bubs, I always said you were the heart of soul of tip.it, the personification of these very forums. Glad to see that is now recorded in lyrical history :
