  1. You said you where using paint in your last topic so... Image > attributes write down the height and width of the image then press cancel Image > stretch/skew since there is no feature that allows you to resize it to a specific size then you can do this: let H1 = original height let W1 = original width let H2 = wanted height let W2 = wanted width Let H3 = percentage to enter of height Let W3 = percentage to enter of width H3 = (H2 / H1) * 100% W3 = (H2 / H1) * 100% for example: .......... .W . ........ H 1 | ..... 500 ..... 700 2 | ..... 500 ..... 400 3 | .....100% ..... 57.14%
  2. -goes to wikipedia.com, edits the article about the civil war- "the civil war was won by the south, who suddenly pulled out their plasma rifles and blasted away." Yeaahh.. wikipedia is great! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki#Vandalism The majority or its users are mature and will not write some random bull crap
  3. Agreed. As much as the staff will deny it (omg you're singling out users!!11!1), it's needed to stop stupid advice that could potentially destroy hardware (suggesting removing heat syncs to fix over heating problems come to mind...). Another one that I see all the time and no one corrects is telling someone to remove the case cover to theoretically lower the case temperature. That will do just the opposite though, it ruin the designed airflow on a computer case since the intake will blow air in creating slightly higher pressure and the exhaust will blow the how air out creating slightly lower pressure in the case. If you remove the case then it will not work like designed. On Topic: You shouldn't touch the red slider thing because it will cause it to expect a current of another country such as the US having 120 V and Europe having around 200V not to mention a different frequency. Good luck on getting the computer fixed and hope that the PSU was the problem with the original problem and it didn't fry your mother board.
  4. Wikipedia is your friend. wikipedia sucks... Saying "wikipedia sucks" is completely stupid and if you think it sucks then there is nothing stopping you from making it better considering just about anyone can contribute who wishes to. It provides information on just about anything you want so I would consider it one of the best websites.
  5. I would think one of the reasons of Mac's having just about no viruses would be that the average person who chooses to code a virus would be familiar with PC's since just about all programmers do not use a Mac. There is also an abundance of virus creating tools for PC but just about none for Mac's.
  6. perhaps you could find a spare HDD or a friends that already has Windows on it and the same interface and see if the problem still occurs. You could try Linux if you don't have that option but i would think it may react differently to the same problem but on a different OS. Then this may tell you if it is a hardware or a software problem.
  7. There is already a similar thread here, less than a half page down. I use windows since the software I use is for it witch i wouldn't have much point for a computer other wise.
  8. I would think it would be possible but unlikely mostly because many people get that unable to restore message but it does not cause this problem for them. Another thing that you could check is for leaking, corroded or bulging capacitors/anything out of the ordinary. http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=195 The Following is a text about ESD from http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial ... .asp&guid=
  9. I would think it would be ESP or incompatible hardware/drivers. For trying to get the system restore working I would guess it would be caused by: SR is not running a locked/system file corrupt restore file changes made from another OS improper shutdown SR is not running you can also try disabling SR then enabling it, but you will loose all your previous restore points. (control panel, system, system restore) Have you tried retracing your steps on the day before this happened to make sure you didn't do anything that might have complications?
  10. Test the current output on the power supply before you spend the money on the new one.
  11. Cool, looks good but it loose like you didn't put enough coats of glaze on it.
  12. If the others diagnosis was correct then you don't need to clear the files any more, just click yes/accept and it should work.
  13. A good movie editor could mean two different things, one that is easy and simple to use or one that has a bit of advanced settings. A good simple one would be windows movie maker 2. One with a bit more options but still fairly easy to use would be AVS but of course it costs $40. There is a free version similar to the hyper cam restrictions.
  14. I just tried runescape a while ago and it works fine for me. Here are a few things you could try in this order. logging on to a different world restarting computer check computer performance to make sure you are not lagging because of a slow computer along with increasing the browser cache size or clearing the browser cache reinstall java
  15. Possibly is might be caused by a magnetic field most likely by a DC current because it will cause a steady distortion but AC will usually just case the image to have a "wave distortion". In theory if the above suggestions are true about the graphics unit over heating then it wouldn't hurt to check if lowering the screen refresh rate will make a difference. It wouldn't hurt to lower it a bit permanently if this helps at all since programs usually will be the lower one in most cases. If you have another monitor it would help out a lot to check if that will work decently so you can either know you need a new monitor or rule it out.
  16. I'm not too sure but you could make sure that the driver was for vista since most of the time they need a completely different driver. Most of the time I think it will just act like your computer is infested with viruses when you install any software that is no compatible. If the driver is not vista compatible then try looking at the printer manufacturers website. If they don't have a driver on their website then you can uninstall the driver and that should solve your problems if is caused because of incompatibility.
  17. I have only tried the beta witch was decent considering it is a new OS but i have herd the RC1 version is much better. I have herd that its performance has been improved greatly so it runs just as fast as XP. It is not worth buying it unless you are actually out to buy a new OS not just "upgrade".
  18. I doubt he will switch because the friends that he chats with may be on aim. Anyway you should try waiting a while, it is most likely that their server is screwing up. Usually a big company will have pretty reliable services. I have seen people having trouble with things such as importing information and it will give a technical error but then a day later it will work fine so i guess it is not impossible.
  19. If it is overheating removing the heatsink will not help it cool since that is what the heatsink is there for. Also, overheating just doesn't occur in the cpu chip but it also occurs at the gpu and the motherboards chipset and some people are so obsessed with cooling they will get a heatsink for their ram and and fan for their north bridge along with a bunch of auxiliary fans. Just make sure all your fans are working and there is no bunch or cables over your intake or exhaust, expecially ATA. However people usually jump to overheating whenever they have a problem with a computer shutting down, even with those symptoms so here are some more solutions: reset your computer to default BIOS settings check if this happens if sake mode Also a common mishap is the power supply failing but the person will actually think it is overheating since the computer will shutdown once the power supply has too much strain on it. You should not just replace your powersupply because you "think" that is the problem, even if you are sure. You should always have a reason backed by a result so your should test it with a volt meter. One more think that is common for this prolblem is the motherboard failing. I had once had this prolblem and it was fixed by replacing the motherboard but that is one case and all cases are different. If you know this is a cpu overheating prolblem then you could try purchasing some arctic silver 5(silver conductor paste stuff) witch I find to work a lot better then thermal pad and silicone grease but it is hard to remove it once you apply it so don't use this if will are planning on upgrading the cpu. Even if you have not ruined the previous seal it may still need reapplying of a thermal paste. This is because the pressure over time will thin out this later of thermal paste. Also it will not hurt to add a fan or two. Also don't forget to make sure the powersupply fan is working because it is often missed by people who don't know it is there and in my opinion it is the most important because all the hot air in the case will float up witch should be where the power supply fan intake is(sometimes). Some computers that over heat will either freeze up or give a general protection failure. Also make sure the monitor doesn't give a yellow light when it shutsdown.
  20. I don't get why no one understands this when i stated it previously: I am NOT talking about the majority of games, I am saying that games do not have to be static electrical impulses but rather can be anything that you want them to be within reason and the only things restricting them is the programming language and input and output "matter" along with the OS and the API but of course using OOP will restrict you some but that is implying that the person that creates the game is trying to be keep efficacy but create a product that people will buy. I am not talking about a program that people will buy but what is possible. Note that I know this has just about nothing to do with a black screen and i was being sarcastic about the 10 year old monitor thing. It would be best if you just pm me if you want to say anything to me.
  21. Even though everything rendered is on your computer it does rely on the connection to render it because it has to receive input on the decisions made on the host to determine what to render. I never said one thing about the game crashing if it was designed to timeout. What says you have to make a loss of connection throw an error you just have your mind set on what all games do not what they can do. I said that i agreed so i don't know why you posted all the disagreements to my post when the only difference is mine is looking at the issues abstractly but you are looking at it like all games have to have this concrete design. Please read some of these articles because they might just open your eyes a little so see that everything doesn't have to be a set way. http://www.gamedev.net/reference/list.a ... id=23#300v
  22. Have you tried it with a different, I think you need to change it for the game not the computer witch there should be a setting for. Also are you sure your graphics card is a card, I would think it would be integrated, sorry if i am wrong. Anyway make sure your video card driver is up to date and you could also try disabling hardware acceleration right-click on desktop and click properties click settings tab click advanced button click troubleshoot tab slide the hardware acceleration to none Well if that didn't help then just try updating the driver as i said before. Also guild wars has the ability to handle lag so it won't just screw up if it doesn't know where any of the other players or monsters are at so i guess I agree with the majority of Parabola's facts but the rendering does have to do with the packets packets receiving because they affect what the game renders. Also nothing says that a game has to timeout if the client is not receiving the information required, it just makes sense for the person to not be waiting at the computer for hours waiting for something to be happening and not knowing one but about what the problem is. Also you don't have to know anything to post on this board since this is just a runescape board where not many people really know much about prolblems with unrelated topics of runescape witch is one of the reasons i post here once in a while. It doesn't make them a idiot in fact I thought it was pretty smart of him ruling out the monitor because his was 10 years old and it worked.
  23. I don't understand what you mean when you say you don't have any money but you need a better computer. You don't really have any other choice other then not play runescape. If you really want a new computer then you should get a job and not try to get something for nothing. Another thing you could do is just save money and buy a cheap one, here are a few http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... ategory=10
  24. The render doesn't fit with the background color too well and the background should flow in the same direction as the render. Other then that is is ok. It looks like you used too wide of a brush on the blending because the gun handle thing is wavy.
  25. It doesn't help one bit to tell us its a blue screen. The next time it happens you should write down what it says and post it. After that you should google it and see what you can find about it. If this is just a one time occurring thing then you shouldn't be too concerned about it unless it is a reoccurring problem or you read something that you should be concerned about. If you just assume that a hardware/software update is needed because of a blue screen that you didn't read/ don't understand then you shouldn't be going around downloading random things but installing the windows updates would get good. You could also download XP SP2 since I assume you don't have it since I have herd the Windows updates are forced after it, witch they should be.
