  1. The BBC didn't really have a huge say in the matter, Bernie priced them out of it. If he was that bothered about it remaining FTA as he's said before he would have lowered the price, but as it happens all he cares about is money. Most people seem to think that the BBC will cover the European races as well as Australia and Brazil. I wouldn't be surprised if Brundle ended up working for Sky, although he has openly criticised the decision along with many others involved in F1. Jake Humphrey did say that F1 fans should keep things in perspective given the attacks in Norway last week, not really sure why he thought that was relevant to anything but there we go. Interesting fact: The German GP last weekend peaked at 10m viewers which worked out at a 47% audience share. Sky has less than 10m subscribers and even less subscribe to Sky Sports. Oh and it works out at about £480 a year for Sky + Sky Sports apparently, that's £48 a race.
  2. For those living in the UK, only 50% of F1 races between 2012 and 2018 will be shown on the BBC, Sky Sports will have all race and qualifying coverage. Can't say I am delighted by this news given I don't have and never will have Sky. Hopefully the BBC wont drop any of the good races, only the ones where no overtaking happens. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9550930.stm Edit: Looks like this is news to the teams too and potentially a breach of the Concorde Agreement. Bernie is fuelling the flames for F1 breaking away from FOM. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/93455
  3. It's a free cape for aesthetic purposes, not everything needs stats :P Gives me something to mess around with today anyway!
  4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2: Personally I don't think it was the best HP film, it was quite cheesy in places and the fight scenes were very short and poorly done. The final battle with Voldemort had about 45 seconds of screen time. There were some pretty good bits though and some good lines from Maggie Smith. 6.5/10 The Mechanic: An ok film but when the film finished I realised that not a lot had actually happened in the film and pretty much everything was crammed into the last 30 minutes. 6/10 Falling Down: Good film about a man who notices flaws in today's society so decides to do something about it, violently, all while he's trying to get to his ex-wife's house to see his daughter on her birthday. Plot was a bit unbelievable but it was enjoyable! 7/10
  5. I'm still not overwhelmingly convinced on McLaren, yes they won but their car fares better in colder conditions whereas RBR and Ferrari have both said they struggle in the cold so we'll have to wait for Hungary to see if they're proper competition. Also I heard on the grapevine that both Ferraris were set up for a wet race yesterday as a high risk gamble because they didn't expect to be competitive anyway. If that is true then that Ferrari is scary quick.
  6. Double post but meh. Not sure how everyone else found the race but I was bored stupid after about 20 laps, there was so little overtaking and not even DRS helped. We did learn two things though: 1. Ferrari are a serious threat to RBR, Ferrari do not do well in cold conditions and they said themselves they weren't expecting much from the race so to finish 2nd here and 1st in Silverstone is pretty impressive. 2. Vettel has forgotten how to overtake. He was the only person in the top 10 to not make a competitive overtake as far as I noticed (yes he did pass a few people, but they were out of position and he usually just followed Massa through). With Webber, Ferrari and possibly McLaren getting their act together it might not be easy for Vettel for the rest of the season. Edit: None of the top 3 drivers will receive penalties even though they all broke the rules post-race and Alonso's car passed the FIA's tests. Nice to see the stewards using sense for a change
  7. I'd rather see Vettel on pole again than Hamilton in second but ah well. Ferrari have been seriously fast off the start line so I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least one Ferrari ahead of Vettel into the first corner. With any luck Webber will win this just to remind Christian Horner that there's someone other than his little prodigy driving for RBR.
  8. When I saw this on the news yesterday I couldn't believe my eyes, Norway is one of the last places I ever expected something like this to happen. Although I don't know much about Norway and its politics so that could be just my own ignorance. My thoughts go out to everyone effected by this.
  9. Just got back from seeing it, it was good but not the best. I felt the battle scenes were really poorly done, especially Harry vs Voldemort but then again the battle scenes in HP have never been brilliant. I agree with people about the deaths as well, it was kind of like "while you've been watching Harry, Ron and Hermione run around the following main characters are now dead". It was quite cheesy in places too. Some parts of the film were really well done though, Snape's memories and Harry in the Forbidden Forest (the most emotional part of the film for me personally). Alan Rickman and Maggie Smith were incredible in this film too, although neither said all that much. All in all a pretty good and enjoyable film, though I preferred the last one.
  10. Not planning to upgrade to Lion anytime soon, for one I heard they've dropped support for Rosetta? Plus I'm pretty content with Snow Leopard at the moment and I'm also too cheap to upgrade :P
  11. Those graphics look nice <3: Possibly another Myreque Quest on its way judging from the last picture?
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1aZcsY-O8Q I don't really see this bringing about the end of the Murdoch empire, chances are after a few years this will be forgotten and he will pick up where he left off. He already reportedly has plans in place to replace the News of the World with The Sun on Sunday.
  13. Kimi always gets linked to one team or another at this time of year so I'd take these rumours with a pinch of salt. Also as Ginger said, Webber is supposed to be close to extending his contract.
  14. Bridesmaids: Dire film, not particularly funny and fairly predictable. 3/10. Bad Teacher: Better than I expected but it wasn't anything special. Had it's funny moments and it made me wish Cameron Diaz was my teacher at school, or at least I wish I had someone like her :P 5/10
  15. I wouldn't mind going but I really can't afford it right now having just finish University. I could be persuaded to go if a few TIFers I actually know are going though.
  16. I want to believe Alonso, Button or Webber could do it, but he's 92 points behind Vettel compared to 47 this time last year plus last year there were 5 drivers scoring consistently and taking points off each other so really unless Red Bull have a disastrous second half of the season I think it's over. I am really happy to see Webber standing up for himself though, despite being asked 5 times to stop trying to overtake Vettel he ignored his team. Credit to him for actually trying to race. I think the problem RBR have is that Horner loves Vettel, so no matter how well Webber does Vettel will always get preferential treatment.
  17. Team orders were disappointing but did anyone really expect Horner to put his cars at risk on the last lap? Webber should have got Vettel but it doesn't really change anything, Vettel has won the Driver's championship and Red Bull have won the Constructor's. Disaster for McLaren, Hamilton once again manages to hit someone and his race ruined by under-fueling and just bad luck due to an over eager lollypop man for Button. Brilliant drive from Alonso, Ferrari seem to have re-found their form although some of it could be due to the blown diffuser changes for this race so it will be interesting to see if they keep it up in Germany. Vettel is on Top Gear tonight for those in the UK, should be interesting :P
  18. Well, at least it's not Vettel on pole I guess? Expecting a Ferrari win tomorrow, if it didn't rain I think we would have seen Alonso or Massa on pole. Nice to see Christian Horner throwing his toys out of his pram over this whole blown diffuser business.
  19. This. I wish I could speak proper French, I can hold a basic conversation with a French person but I end up out of my depth very quickly because I struggled with it at school. Other than that, and having more confidence I'm pretty happy with the way I turned out so far.
  20. Added myself, or at least the general area of where I live. About 45 minutes to the nearest Tip.Iter! Also looks like I used to live about 15/20 minutes from Tripsis until I moved back to the UK

  22. Mixed feelings about the race, on the one hand it was nice to see DRS was all but useless but on the other it was another uneventful Valencia GP. There isn't another circuit even similar to this so I doubt this was any way indicative of Ferrari and McLaren's pace. Despite everyone saying Silverstone will be a restart for the championship I think it is pretty safe to say Vettel has won it. The interesting thing will be to see who out of McLaren and Ferrari gets their act together quickest to take the constructor's fight to RBR since Webber has had a dismal season for the most part. Oh also Hispania need to be shown the door I think, they're slow, not improving and on more than one occasion their drivers have ignored blue flags costing the front runners valuable seconds and costing Massa a race finish in Canada. At the very least they should be fined and told to improve or leave.
  23. X-Men: First Class - Never really been a massive fan of the X-Men films, I always found them to be lacking something and I never found them particularly memorable. I really was surprised at how good this film was though, it was good to get a background to how it all started and Charles and Erik's friendship. Casting was pretty good too, most of the actors are relatively unknown but they freshened up X Men. 8/10 Pirates 4 - Loved the first one, not so much the second and the third was rubbish so I was hoping they got it right with this film, although it didn't look that great from the trailers. A lot better than the 2nd and 3rd films, although not as good as the 1st. Can't really fault this film, it has everything the 1st Pirates film had although the Spanish seemed a somewhat pointless addition. 7/10

  25. Yep, sitting around for 2 hours waiting for the race to restart was well worth it. Unbelievable drive from Button, hopefully he wont get penalties for his involvement with Hamilton and Alonso retiring although the former was Hamilton's fault and the latter just a racing incident. Would have loved to have seen Schumacher get on the podium and this was proof that DRS has taken away the skill of overtaking. I'll admit it does have it's uses such as helping the likes of RBR, McLaren and Ferrari clearing the mid-field but when you have 3 cars fighting for 2 places on the podium I'd prefer to actually see them race for it rather than press a button (not the Jensen variety) and sail past. Nevertheless, an incredible race and the photo finish at the end between Massa and Kobyashi was brilliant.
