(Opinion) Would You Like That on a Silver Platter?
Sly_Wizard replied to muggiwhplar's topic in General Discussion
Like I said on the last page, summoning needs to focus a lot less on charm gathering and pouch infusing and more on actually using your summons. As it stands, I've only summoned a familiar twice: Once against the KBD for the hell of it and once for the quest :P One of the many reasons I consider summoning to be a 'broken' skill. -
RS Players from US, Canada, Australia, Netherlands!
Sly_Wizard replied to spooferfish's topic in Questionnaires
Sly Wizard - Florida  Oh, and good luck finding someone from Mississippi, 'cuz as we all know most Mississippians have no teeth, low IQ (So they don't know what a computer, or electricity for that matter, is), live in a shack with an outhouse, wear overalls with no t-shirt and have a refrigerator on their front porch along with a few rocking chairs and a banjo. (I kid! I kid!) -
So, I'm wondering, out of the people who think this is a 'great skill', how many of you actually have the means to reach level 99? Maybe a few of you do, but I'd be willing to bet that the majority of you don't. Fundamentally flawed =/= Challenging.

You might as well carry a big, flashing neon sign which says "Kill me now!".
-
Complete letdown. I figured that we'd get experience equal to what damage our summons did to an NPC times a set amount (Hell, I would have even accepted "Damage x .5" to be acceptable), not this piece of garbage way Jagex has set up. ...And, yes, I'm a quitter. I'm leve 5 summoning and don't plan on gaining another level.
-
Wait... People are surprised that Jagex lied? Come now... Unless you've been comatose for the past five or six years, you should know better than to accept anything Jagex says to be/claims will be true to actually be true.
-
Meh... Doesn't look exciting (No point if you can't summon things to fight with you 1 vs 1. I mean, Nechs get to do it but we can't?). But I guess I'll have to try it at for at least an hour just to say I did.
-
How about you give up skilling for the next six months until Jagex's so called 1 vs. 1 'alternative' comes out? 100M says you can't do it. Yet you seemingly expect many of us PK'ers-- Who basically played solely to PK-- To do just that? Gimme' a break!

Ummm... I know. Apparently you didn't catch what I said. Cash has to come from somewhere. It doesn't just appear out of thin air (For arguments sake, we're going to assume that not everyone in Runescape generates cash through high alching). People typically generate cash through the use of a skill. That is, they produce a finished good and then sell those goods for cash. Using my example, if your way of generating cash is through herblore, then rares become more affordable under three circumstances: 1.) If the price of potions go up while the price of rares go down, don't change or rise at a rate which is less than the rate at which the price of potions rose. 2.) If the price of potions go down while the price of rares go down at a greater rate. 3.) If the price of potions remain unchanged while the price of rares go down. Qeltar's charts don't seem to account for this fact, which is why I'm confused as to where he got his numbers for affordability as, like I said earlier, they seem to be solely based on an item's day-to-day price increase/decrease while ignoring other factors. Let me illustrate what I mean: Let's say a house currently costs $400K and I make $60K per year. Now let's assume that next year the price of that house falls to $350K but my income falls to $50K a year. Realistically, while the price of the house has fallen, it's more expensive to purchase now than it was last year because my income has a greater percentage decrease than the house did. As it seems to me, currently Qeltar would say that the house is more affordable because he only looks at the $50K decrease while ignoring other factors. Hence why I don't really understand the affordability category :-k -
TWIRP Report and Economic Analysis: Week of January 14, 2008
Sly_Wizard replied to qeltar's topic in General Discussion
:wall: :wall: :wall: Going back to my post: 1.) It seems to me that income has been calculated by taking the per cent increase/decrease of every item in a specific category and then adding them together. If anything, that measures the change in profitability (Whilst ignoring things such as time constraints and/or cost of investment) in a group (As a whole) and not necessarily a change in income from those who engage in those activities. Take woodcutting for example. Chances are you can (And should be able to) generate a higher income in woodcutting today than you could have a month or so ago. 2.) Erm... What the hell is affordability? If I had to guess, I'd say that affordibility merely measures an item's day-to-day price. That is, the lower the price the more affordable the item whilst the higher the price the less affordable to item. To me, that's a rather simplistic way of measuring affordability because it ignores the price changes in other items in relation to the item in question. For example, let's say you make all your money from herblore. If the price of, say, rares go down while the price of potions go up, then rares would be more affordable. But if the price of rares go up while the price of potions go down, then rares would become more expensive to you. If both the price of potions and rares go down but the price of rares decrease at a higher percentage than that of potions, then rares become more affordable. Conversely, if the price of both potions and rares go down but the price of potions decrease at a higher rate than that of rares, then rares become more expensive as far as you're concerned. The same goes with a rise in the price in both potions and rares. Henceforth why I'm sorta' confused about the whole affordability thing. ...But I'm sure you knew that, as it's-- In your own words-- Pretty 'Duh!' >_> -

Well, aside from the first part, yeah... I was wondering where the numbers came from 'cuz some of them seem to be plucked from thin air (Or lack any kind of explanation as to how they were calculated, such an income and affordability)? :-k -
Why didn't Jagex just remove skilling?
Sly_Wizard replied to Sly_Wizard's topic in General Discussion
*Shakes head in shame* Read the thread. Seriously. Neither of which are suitable replacements. Anyone who participated in PK'ing or staking could tell you that. But I digress, as it's really not pertinent to the discussion at hand. I already answered this. They wouldn't need to replace them. Just take the aforementioned skills out and adjust the quest requirements accordingly. I believe I said this on page one. -
Why didn't Jagex just remove skilling?
Sly_Wizard replied to Sly_Wizard's topic in General Discussion
Please. I haven't gained a single skill level (That means both combat and non-combat) since Jagex removed PK'ing from the wilderness and tried instead to give us BH as a replacement. The fact that I'm not ranked in anything dealing with BH is a testament to the fact that it's utter crap. I'm going to sit here and give you every reason why BH is a total failure, as I'm sure you can find one of the hundred threads stating why it's not worth it. In fact, this is what I think of BH: *Points above* There's no point in playing BH when you get jumped by no less than twenty people as soon as you enter. -
Why didn't Jagex just remove skilling?
Sly_Wizard replied to Sly_Wizard's topic in General Discussion
Wow... Welcome to the point of the thread. Better late than never, I suppose. ...What? I'm sorry, but that's-- Quite possibly-- One of the dumbest arguments I've heard in, like, well... Ever! How would removing woodcutting, fishing and mining be anything like telling auto'ers they win? Auto'ers don't want those skills gone, as they'd only hurt themselves. Removing those skills would, in essence, be saying "You abused your right to these skills, and now we're taking them away!" and would throw a serious wrench in RWT. Seriously. You take away the activities auto'ers directly engage in; Not the ones they don't. Common sense ftw? I'm tired of responding to this argument. Read the thread. -
Why didn't Jagex just remove skilling?
Sly_Wizard replied to Sly_Wizard's topic in General Discussion
I explained this before, but I can explain it again. Skills aren't vital to Runescape. In fact, the only things skills are good for are meeting arbitrary quest requirements. Skills feed into other skills, but they don't provide anything useful in the game in terms of powerful, unique items (Minus slayer and the upper escelons of hunter and fletching). The best weapons and equipment aren't player made, but either dropped by an NPC, found or bought. No one ever has to skill. You want to skill. Therefore skilling is expendable and can be taken out of the game. I'm sure you'd agree with that. -

I've had three 'permanent' bans from the RSOF  And, yes, I'm currently unbanned. -
How many Jagex Moderaters have you actually seen?
Sly_Wizard replied to ajk822's topic in Questionnaires
Let's see... I've seen quite a few, but don't know all of their names. Most notably I've seen Mod Craddock in Lumby and Paul on world 6 the day Jagex created castle wars. I also happened to meet the Mod responsible for the distiller part of Regicide. I've seen about three or so other J-Mods besides that but don't all remember their names. -
Forget comparative advantage. Ever heard of efficiency? Just imagine trying to get to 99 runecrafting by mining your own pure essence. That would be a collosal waste of time.

Expecting others to be completely self-sufficient is, plain and simply put, unfeasible. Using runecrafting as an example, for level 99 runecrafting via natures I'd have to mine 1,405,918 pure essence. I'm pretty sure there's one person out there who'd find the fun in that (Especially considering the paltry amount of mining experience you get for rune essence) but the vast majority of Runescape wouldn't. Anywho... It's like this. The removal of auto'ers negatively affected the supply of pure essence, yes, but Jagex removing the PK'ing aspect from the area around the abyss has led to a massive increase in people using that area to runecraft and a subsequent massive increase in the demand for rune essence (In order to runecraft natures) and a subsequent jump in the price of pure essence that would not have been seen otherwise. In Runescape, the demand for an item is much more influential than the supply of that same item. Knowing this, the only way you'll see a sharp drop off in the price of rune essence would be if fewer people were using the abyss to runecraft natures. Rather simple, really.

That's commonly known as the tyranny of the majority.

 I hate the old "Anyone who doesn't like this update is a scammer/cheater!" crap that some people like to spew. I've been playing this game-- Well, not always playing, but I created my character back in 01/02-- And *I* hate the updates because it prevents me from doing any of the things I previously enjoyed (PK'ing, staking and monster hunting, to be specific).

A Lack of Communication, A Lack of Respect
Sly_Wizard replied to qeltar's topic in General Discussion
It would be productive. I get tired of your blatant hypocrisy. I swear... You flip-flop your positions more than anyone I know. On one-hand you applaud an update even though it blatantly harms a group of people, often times hailing it as 'needed', but on the other hand, when you're in the group that's negatively affected by a specific update, then you'll 'conveniently' switch your argument to whatever stance suits you. Spare me the needless insults =; Why post an article if the only thing you're looking for is positive feedback/criticism?
