  1. Its called emergent gameplay. I doubt jagex intended the yak to be used as a tool to make overloads faster (especially convenient when boosting the level). Or for conquest/MA to be boosted. Or any other instance in which the player thinks of a way to, within the rules, use something "outside the box". Simple as that. And the point is more that Jagex seems to know SO little about how their players play the game, then anything else. I have NO doubt that, even with the same gear, I could outkill any J-mod at TD's, or DKS. An example of a real bug that needs fixing is continuing to get the 10 second countdown after you die in PvP, and having it closeout your bank, or the numerous cores @ corp in FFA, or not being able to type into your note section when in combat. Can't J-Mod carry infinite food or something? I seem to remember a vid of a J-Mod fighting the Corporeal Beast in bronze armor. If the J-Mod is on a normal account, sure, but I don't think you can out kill someone with infinite healing. :D They may be able to heal more, but that doesn't matter. @ TDs unicorn is all I need. @ DKS I have a yak. I run out of overloads first. Yea. But eventually you'll run out of unicorns. You can only carry so many unicorns, infinite is infinite. Also, seeing as we know J Mods can also set their own stats, I don't think it's at all impossible for a J Mod to give himself 255 all skills. So you're up against infinite food and Stone of Jas stats with whatever gear he wants. I don't think you can win that no matter how much better you are at it. J Mods are pretty much in debug mode so they can do whatever is possible for us players with a command and more.

  3. It was an illustration. No illustration will fit any situation perfectly. That is all. You, once again, read into things, and missed the point. I would also like to point out several things: 1.) I'd expect more from a member of the staff then from any other user, especially in refraining from the same conduct which they are accusing others of. 2.) The ONLY VOLUNTEERS excuse is just an excuse. Ask others if you need articles, or don't publish a poor article. As someone who has done volunteer work numerous times, that excuse doesn't normally hold much water. But the point is accepted, although I disagree with it. Quoted for emphasis. Sure, these are written by volunteers, but that doesn't mean they're suitable. The Tip.It times are articles for community members to read and think about. Publishing poorly written articles that don't sit well with many community members doesn't reflect well on the community, either. The article could have presented the same opinion in a much more constructive fashion had the author taken a few moments to choose his words more carefully, and include relevant information. A well-written article should convey a basic understanding of the situation in question, and allow for discussion of different perspectives.
  4. I'm not saying quests are unpopular. What I'm saying is that the reasoning he uses isn't necessarily accurate. Yes, there is a lot of feedback on the official forums about quests. From my experience, most of this information pertains to either help with the quest itself, or the rewards. This doesn't point to quests being popular for being the core story, this points towards people wanting to get the damn things done for the rewards. Or, not doing them, because the reward isn't satisfactory. My point is that statements like the one which I quoted shows the author hasn't really put much time and effort into it. I don't care how many quest capes there are, but the author shouldn't make the assumption that everyone hates mini-games. I know people who still go down to the Burthrope Games Room. I know people who genuinely enjoy the chaos and pointlessness of Soul Wars. I'm not saying that I'm in the majority, but I think it's a little arrogant for the author to automatically assume he is. It's not about one assumption. It's a string of them - a presumptuous and slightly arrogant writing style that makes the article itself come off as being antagonistic and unreasonable. I'm not even targeting the opinion presented here, because I personally have had thoughts that Jagex recently has been forcing people to play in certain ways. I just feel that the writing itself is poor - wide sweeping assumptions like "no one likes pest control" create the impression that the author is an indignant and ignorant player who believes he's right and everyone agrees.
  5. It's not the standard of thesis writers. It's just disturbing that Tip.It is willing to publish so incredibly biased and unsupported claims. Did you read the article in question yourself? This itself was incredibly disturbing to me. Quests were at the forefront of popularity? What population is this based on? I have long since hated quests for the incredibly poor storytelling and role-playing aspects. Personality? Your character's personality changes every quest. Your character's actions are depressingly uncharacteristic of the character you actually play. One of the biggest examples of this is the Blood Runs Deep quest. This quest was literally ridiculous in how bad the storytelling was. Let's start with the rescue. Wait a moment, why are we escorting him through the caves again? There's these handy little spells that let me teleport other people. Not only that, but in the quest that's required for Blood Runs Deep, we saw these spells being applied in this way - to rescue someone in danger. Why can't we do this now? Because Jagex wants to force an encounter with Asgard at the end. Obviously the area is not teleport proofed, because I can teleport just fine. It's not a teleport block, else we could just wait it out. Fastforward a bit in the quest. Now we're about to take on a bunch of Dagannoths... and there are volunteers to help me with the Dagannoth Kings. The same Dagannoth Kings which should be dead, as I've lost count of how many times I've killed them. The same Dagannoth Kings that I can take on, all at once, without breaking a sweat. Seriously, I have a 5-0 record with the king of the Fight Caves. I've taken down the Nomad with a third of my supplies left, without using a beast of burden to carry more. And what's more? I'm invincible. I forgot all my equipment during one of the earlier quests in the spirit realm with Baba Yaga. I died, and came back moments later. No big deal. Why do I need help, again? This is the poor story-telling you experience in a game where Jagex's options are limited. They CAN'T create dozens of scenarios for every situation. Remember While Guthix Sleeps? "Hey, I'm sorry I killed your guys before, I'm on your side now, so trust me!" There's no option to work with Lucien. There's no option to leave it all alone and see how things turn out. And again, a bunch of characters throw their lives away to save someone who's invincible. I'm not blaming Jagex for this. Most other MMOs experience similar failings, because you can't really tell a story that's suitable to how your varied player base plays this game. But at the same time, many players regard quests as gimmicky click sequences. You click on the right thing, at the right time, with the right items in your inventory. Splash a little combat in for good measure. Add a reward of experience points and exclusive items. I'm not holding this to the standard of a thesis writer. I just feel that when an author makes such huge presumptions with no source, and little evidence, he deserves any criticism leveled his way because of it.
  6. Were they back to back? Shorty's gotten them back to back off Zil and Rex, I believe. He gets sapphires everywhere.
  7. Dragon Arrows can only be fired by the Dark Bow. ;) Guthix / Saradomin / Zamorak arrows have the same ranged strength as Dragon arrows once you reach a specific level (not a particularly high one either) and they should be usable with a Magic Longbow. They aren't that expensive either. At ~550 each and falling, it's barely more than dragon arrows on a per shot basis...

High templar with Storms > Archons. No doubt, the dps output is pretty damn amazing (One storm to kill marines if you get a good storm off). Then of course when you have no energy left over you can get archons for the extra DPS and small splash againts bio ^^ I havent really used DT's so I can't comment there ^^ I would take 2 High Templar or 2 Dark Templar over a single Archon anyday. 1 Archon > 2 Dark Templars in many situations. For example, against Terran, where he's carefully positioning Missile Turrets at every expansion and around his main, and he has Ravens mixed in his force (which any good Terran player should do, as Ravens provide incredible support against Stalkers). At this point, your Dark Templars will never actually get to do any damage to anything, and don't have enough hitpoints to really draw fire. 2 High Templars are usually better than an Archon though, as between Feed back and Psionic storm you can deal with most units in the game effectively.
  9. I don't understand why you would ever tank rex for a long time... at worst he's only supposed to hit you 1-2 times if you lure. I don't think there's a good reason not to lure (the time spent is easily worth the HP saved) I imagine a steel titan method would involve speccing out supreme and prime, and instead of doing a 2.5 method a full-on tribrid method would be possible. Also note that titan specs almost totally miss rex. During the first few days after the release of Blood Runs Deep, when you could use the short-cut, I was playing around with a Black Salamander at DKs. Thanks to the respawn times, it's actually not significantly slower than Claws of Guthix / Fire Surge in terms of kills per trip, if you're only killing Rex. The ammunition is much, much cheaper, even when you factor in the cost of prayer potions.
  10. Most people don't do dog slayer tasks. A good Jad-Slayer never has to fear dying to him anyways as with the proper equipment, it's mathematically impossible for him to kill you in two hits. Factor in the fact you're protecting from one attack (50% of the time his attack will fail) and the fact that he very likely won't hit his maximum twice consecutively, there's really nothing to fear here. Slayer points from assignments might be worthwhile but Kuradel's dungeon significantly boosts the rate of slayer experience and you can't use it with Lapalok tasks. Also, a lot of people would have to redo their block lists, costing 200-400 points, if they were using Kuradel and switched to Lapalok. 8,000 Tokkul is the equivalent of killing about 10 TzHaar. Considering you have to wander all the way to the TzHaar city for it, it's really nothing much.
  11. Without any context, they'll see: "Give me your password and I'll scam you!" I have actually seen worse scam attempts done seriously, sad as that may be. If this is all they see in the report it's enough for them to action. If I was a Jagex employee I'd probably have done the same thing, just to be safe. Not actioning it means that I may have just let a password scammer go, and that isn't worth the risk. If we were to fear scammers like that, then Jagex should never have incorporated a talking head that tells you to take all your items to the Abyss. We should remove that too, just to be safe.
  12. Did you actually try that? Taking it out of context, I mean? Because it's an obvious joke, in or out of context, which is the silliest part. True, it's not wise to joke about things like this, but like I said before, anyone with half a brain can tell it's a joke, in or out of context. What the mounted Abyssal Demon says is more easily misconstrued as an actual scam than this is.
  13. I don't think anyone with at least half a brain can possibly interpret "give me your password and I'll scam you" as anything but a joke. I can't imagine any context in which that remark can be taken seriously.
  14. Yes. No, you don't. You have to boost your stats again before you check health, else everyone could use magic trees for insane experience through assist. You can't assist with trees. Are you sure about that? I know you can't assist with untradable seeds but I could've sworn a while ago I used assist for a fruit tree. EDIT: Huh, sounds like I was thinking of something else. Guess you learn something new every day.

  16. Hunter kit gives more experience per cast than stun or high level alchemy, meaning if it casts at least as fast as the other two spells, it gives a higher experience rate. Why don't you test it? See how many of each you can cast in 60 seconds, and if Hunter casts at least as fast as the others, use that first, otherwise use the alchs / stun first.
  17. Oh, please no. Getting one fire cape was bad enough. I dont want to do it again. ;_; "Do X while wearing a fire cape." "Kill Jad while wearing a Fire Cape." :P
  18. In chess if your opponent is well ahead (Eg, you are a queen+bishop+a few pawns down) it is good manors to resign. But if he can keep you from winning, well then its a draw. However, I still think that its rather rude to keep on simply avoiding the champions, since the other person was clearly out played. If I have a Bishop and a King facing your King, you were clearly outplayed because I managed to save more pieces than you. The reason it's a draw is that, despite the fact I may have played better, I still played poorly enough that you left me in a position where I could not achieve my win condition. Same goes in Conquest and any other strategy based game. Even if you play better, so long as you allow me to leave you in a position where you can not win, you should not be allowed to win... that's why win conditions exist after all. The goal isn't to play better than your opponent, the goal is to leave your opponent with no pieces left, and if you are incapable of taking your opponent's last piece, then you don't deserve a win. Yet a player who deliberatly doesn't end turns, makes fun of your playing skills, and admits that what they are doing shouldn't be allowed to happen, but they are doing it anyway to annoy you. Should still not deserve to win. I disagree that it shouldn't be allowed to happen, because honestly, there's lots of ways you can avoid situations and I think it's a mark of playing poorly to let these situations occur. On the other hand, I think taunting and making crude remarks is rude no matter in what context...

  20. I really hate it when people can't seem to get their heads around the concept of a win condition. It's like a game of chess where you have a Bishop and a King left, and he has a King. It's a tie. If you are put into a position from which you can not fulfill your win condition, then you do not deserve to win, and your opponent has every right to continue to avoid allowing you to fulfill your win condition until you accept it's a draw. Because that's what it is - a draw.
  21. halberds  battle cry takes care of most of there health and champs can't counter. use vigilance and the champs dead if they attack you. and they don't have enough movement to escape the range of halberd. Regeneration says hi, and recharges faster than your battle cry.

I think you're just bad at Zerg. Or maybe I just get bad Terran opponents. When I play random, I typically have no trouble dealing with Terran as Zerg. Sometimes I just get flat-out outplayed, but that happens with every race for me. The game is really more balanced than most people want to admit. Maybe right now it looks like Terran has the edge, but throughout the beta I noticed a similar pattern. At the beginning, it was Mutalisks that were widely regarded as "unstoppable." The Stalker really hasn't changed much. Photon Cannons and Missile Turrets barely changed at all. What it took was people realizing that Missile Turrets costing 100 instead of 75 is OK, because they do better now, and Photon Cannons still do their job, and Stalkers were better than everyone gave them credit for. Then there was proxy reapers - the mathematically impossible to stop build. Which of course isn't true anymore since people realized it's perfectly okay to skip the first Zealot and rush to Cybernetics Core, then chrono-boost out a Stalker seconds after the Reaper arrives. There was a Planetary Fortress Rush phase too. And a phase where Psionic Storm was useless. And a phase where Thors were too big to do their job (in fact, Blizzard shrank them, but, ironically enough, I've frequently seen Thors being used to block up choke points such as an opposing ramp during an attack, a purpose for which a larger Thor would actually be better). A phase where Hellions were useless. The way people play the game changes - people discover new strategies, which in turn, shift the balance of the metagame. [/hide] Try playing as protoss against a bioball :< Damn that stuff is tough to beat, by the time i've teched to collossi, they're all up in my base, killing my guys :( Still trying to find an effective tactic against the bioball. Protoss a fairly easy time against the bio-ball. Zealots do very well against both Marines and Marauders until the period where Marauders have concussive shell, but Zealots don't have charge. Nevertheless, you should be able to hold on until you tech up to Colossi. It sounds like you're teching fairly slowly if you aren't actually reaching Colossi - how are you using your chrono boosts? Do you time your resources so you can start an observer once the Robotics Facility is up, and start your Colossus once the Robotics Facility is done? Bio-ball is actually not a major threat to Protoss past the early game, and not a major threat in the early game either if you play well at the beginning, managing your resources and limited production time well, and making the most of the units you have. Also, remember that sentries can delay an approaching MM force, can significantly reduce damage from marines, and can split an army giving your Stalkers an easier time. The key to beating Terran bio is the right combination of Sentries/Zealots/Stalkers until you can build Colossus. I am actually liking immortal and high templar+zealots which works the best for me, merge the templars after they finish storming and they can destroy marines. Immortals eat marauders with their 50 damage per shot and zealots with charge is good fodder. Immortals are extremely, extremely vulnerable to Ghosts, because their shields are half their life expectancy against Marauders. 100 Shields absorbs 10 hits, 200 HP = 11 hits, 10 hits if the Marauders have a weapons upgrade (you'd need two armor upgrades to counteract it). High Templars are good, but they're a little bit harder to get onto the field than Colossi due to the two very crucial upgrades. Finally, they share the same weakness as Immortals - a few well placed EMP rounds will pretty much eliminate your High Templars from the battle (note also that after EMP, High Templars die to a single Sniper Round). In other words, if your Immortal/High Templar/Zealot force encounters a Marine/Ghost force, assuming you both manage your units equally well, the Terran player comes out on top. The Archons are no good, because the rest of your army will be destroyed way too quickly. However, High Templars are a great lategame unit if your opponent persists with bio and doesn't bring out Ghosts. Immortals are probably best brought out instead of Colossi as a faster alternative, depending on what you know about your opponent's army composition.

  24. And this is why Tip.It did not allow topics like this, and this is also why there are people surprised this topic has remained open.
  25. why are you such a baby? get a life and stop trying to be a mod. congrats to telemon btw.. great achievement. He has a point though. Topics like this were locked because even if the original poster never meant it to be read in a negative light, some posters would read it that way and respond negatively. There's already been one such post on this topic, and Tip.It admins made a strict policy of locking such threads. Why the sudden change in policy? Obviously, it's not the maturing of posters, as insulting comments towards a variety of parties have been posted already...
