Why no BOA?
Using another person to trade items from one of your accounts to the other would mean your now account sharing. But I agree multiple login & trading between your accounts isn't a big deal in my opinion. I wouldn't care if others did. I've asked a friend to give me full rune before on an account & traded him the rune bars on my main. Basically the same thing just with a middle man.

Well you've never really had anything positive to say about anything RS or Jagex related so it's not a huge shock. And I doubt they would want a dime, that's like 0.63 of a penny :P

But Jagex are a British company not the Chinese Government, Geo-IP blocking is a step I doubt they'd take, it's discriminatory in my opinion. To monitor for interactions between programs requires a low level driver and cannot be done in java. It also cannot be done without a user downloading and installing a piece of software that requires administrative access on the computer. You're forgetting that RS is a signed applet, which means that it can do everything that a native executable can do (including running native code). If Jagex wanted, they could make a drive-by installer for PunkBuster/equivalent (admin privileges are required for installing it, of course). Java itself cannot run native code, it can execute a separate, native, program which in return provides output to the java applet, but java itself cannot access any of the things required to emulate programs like punkbuster. The entire point of runescape as a java applet is to be able to play it on any system without having to install anything or have any special privileges. First of all you said it couldnt be done, now your saying it can be done but not with Java, which is what we was suggesting anyway. You seem to know a fair bit about Java & have proven useful, so I got a genuine question, the client itself isn't Java it just holds & runs the java much like a web browser? Presuming I'm thinking correctly there, can't they create a program that monitors any interaction with the client? Obviously that would require installation & administrator rights, if you can answer that it would finally answer the question I've been asking.

The actual RuneScape client is about 250MB and it's usually installed at C:\.jagex_cache_32\runescape. The initial download of the client from their website is 10.4MB, the other parts of the game are downloaded as you play through it which takes a little bit of moving about (game downloads in segments as you move through it) In response to the below post: inb4 someone posts something original <_<

Runefest - Insider Session Breaking Bots
OK, I understand that part, but there is already a client, what I'm saying is that that client could become the only way to access RuneScape that client is small in size and already created, couldn't they create a program that is built into the existing client designed to monitor interaction with it. I understand this worry of security, but how many of us have never installed any other on-line game, they all have this kind of software in one form or another, COD, Crysis, Battlefield, FlyFF, WoW. All of these on-line games have a form of protecting be it PunkBuster or something else, granted they don't work 100%. The security risk is a minimal worry imo, you've got more chance of a security breach from outdated programs & browsing new websites. If your worried about them collecting information, as a British based company I pretty sure there software would come with a disclaimer & be protected under UK law, this isn't some doggy company set up in China or Russia, if you trust your Internet service provider, your anti-virus protecting you, your Skype, MSN or Yahoo messenger, hell if you trust windows what makes trusting Jagex a professional company based in a reputable country any different. I hope it doesn't seem like I'm singling you out right now, this is the best way imo of testing each-others ideas is to pick faults in them in the hope we might discover something. I understand that going back to the limited trade would kill of a lot of the bots, but it my no means stops them. I feel there is a massive culture at the moment of people that will continue to bot even if all RWT is removed, the amount of people that will continue to bot just for the skill capes is bigger than ever, what we need is a way to to detect bots and remove them from the game, I don't think there will ever be a system that will just halt them but we need a system of detection, obviously it will need to be maintained and updated but hopefully it will be more manageable. We need in game fixes and Jagex need to set up something to detect and fight against them with, not one or the other both. We need limits in the game to make it less appealing and a constant updating detection system to make it less appealing to those that would bot for personal gain. It's sad I like free trade, but it's abused and used way to much I think it's better without it unless Jagex can create a system that stops all abuse of free trade something that in reality is impossible. -- Also Skeptic, if I am really misunderstanding what you we've been debating about with the client (I just see it as using the current client with an extra built in security feature) you're going to have to spoon feed it to me because I'm really not getting what you mean. My question is simple, the current client is small (10.4MB) and has the same requirements as RuneScape has now, why can't that be the future client but with a added inbuilt security feature that prevents/detects interaction with itself that would not require anything significant added to the requirements. The security feature itself would be what 6MB at most. (Based of off GameGuard being a 6.7MB program) yes it may require administrator privileges but how many games these days don't and after all this is a game, a game that seriously needs this kind of protective system in place. I'm not saying it wont affect RS users that I know it will some people don't want the game to be download only, but that doesn't stop my point that being a client only game could be a step towards combating the problems with bots. Edit: sorry I never meant to write that much, I probably repeating myself a bit too

What, not really. Why can't it be like the current client, why does it have to be a full game download client & not more like the current client? What's with all the WoW comparisons, who's saying it has to be anything like their client. Please don't take my replys as a personal attack, it wasn't my intention. It certainly wasn't an allegation just an opinion based on your replies against the idea. To monitor for interactions between programs requires a low level driver and cannot be done in java. It also cannot be done without a user downloading and installing a piece of software that requires administrative access on the computer. That's not correct the client doesn't use or require Java as it is... It can be done. And as you said it would monitor interaction between programs, the client is a program it could monitor other programs interacting with it.

Why would making it client only mean more bandwidth consumption or higher hardware cost? You're just making up mindless presumption based on your dislike for the idea. Yes if they used a program that protected you like GG it would use slightly more memory, we are talking about the kind of memory that isn't noticeable anyway, as for the security risks who said it would be anything like the stuff Blizzard uses, and please everyone has software that scans your active processes. , there is one clear reason why it is a bad idea if you really feel so determined to shot down the idea and that is that it IS a blow to how the game is marketed and could possibly impact on the game and/or it's current players. But more bandwidth consumption & needing a more powerful rig over a piece of software that runs alongside the client, total crap. And that's presuming that it would be a stand alone program, what if it was just their client as it is now with just a few MB extra and a built-in program that monitors any interaction with itself. The client as it stands is the best way to play the game, most secure & most stable platform.

I would too, are you referring to something like nProtect GameGuard or PunkBuster?

Forum Restructuring - Completed
I'm happy with easing up on that in some of the less active forums. But to be fair, I don't think that has happened in the Tech & Computers forum in months :P I think it's nice having the sticky there in case people want to use it, because some people just won't post their own thread for that kind of thing. But if someone were to post outside the sticky like right now, I wouldn't mind. If there are any other forums where you feel this is an issue feel free to let me know :) If I wanted to post pics of a small thing I'd done to my build, like install a SSD, I don't think that would warrant an entire thread, even on a not-so-active forum, so that sticky is good. It is a nice idea trip, for people that want to post a picture or two of stuff, only reason I got into a tantrum  over it was because my whole thread was moved there because it contained pictures, even though it had a bit more to it than just pictures. (And maybe because I didn't get enough sleep, but who knows.) @Guydabest I agree, only reason I bring it up is I had a bit of a write up & pictures in spoiler tags & it was moved into the sticky, yet some guy posts a thread called "my first PC build" links a video and it goes untouched yet my thread that contained a lot more content was hidden away. I know I certainly didn't want to go back to that section of the forums again. Obviously it's down to the Mod/Admin at the time & there opinion on what needs to be moved and that differs with different personality's. I'm not sure why I brought it up, just guess I didn't see the point in the strictness in a part of forum that isn't exactly overwhelmed right now. Anyway, forum changes look good, nice work

What's a DVD drive got to do with anything? Almost all games are downloadable now anyway, most things are trying to move away from hard copy. That's a pretty bad example, but you are right it still has huge advantages.

When was the last time Jagex actually gave a flat-out straight answer? Their Q&As are [bleep]ing jokes now because it's entirely, "Can't comment, sorry." Class dismissed. Basically true for the most part, but I like to think they'll be more open at RuneFest, even if they don't in the Q&A's it's not unknown for personal views to slip out, or staff to slip up like last year, MMG might have slipped up about an update if I remember correctly, depends if he's on the whiskey or not. It's easy to shot it down before it's happened, but we will all have to see wont we.

Yeah we get the idea, you're not the first pessimistic person to post like this, maybe read the post & come up with something original that contributes because it's getting kind of old now. It actually states that they will tell us there future plans on how they are going to deal with bots & then opens up for questions. Not that we will ask questions & they will answer, so it would seem they have a plan, and as it's not going to be implemented before RuneFest that would suggest that it's one that requires time to develop or initiate this future plan. (To add some speculation of my own, they have possible devised an idea/plan & this has caused them to decide to announce it at RuneFest & get our feedback, responses, & possibly answer some of the long-standing questions of why it's taken so long). As I say, no offence but the pessimistic responses to everything & everything Jagex are all over the forums, I'm really looking for the more positive opinion, rather than the pessimistic opinion which is probably in every single post on the forum lately.

Runefest - Insider Session Breaking Bots
I agree with that, re-removing wilderness & free trade is an obvious part-fix, but I highly doubt they will go back on it. But desperate times, desperate measures & things are pretty desperate at the moment. As for something revolutionary, it's quite possible, something along lines of having a cheat detection program a requirement to play? That has the massive effect of having a download requirement though, and if that was to happen they might as well change the game to client based only, which could be potentially as destructive as re-removing wilderness & free trade. As I have said many times, I have thought about it a lot, it's mind baffeling trying to find a fix that wont damage player numbers, but is it worth the risk in what has to be a declining legitimate player-base anyway?* *personal opinion & not fact like some may state. They are still selling the single day ticket, but the VIP sold out pretty fast, I think the tickets they have left are because the venue is massive and the event is more walkabout this time around, I can imagine that gives them a lot of leeway with how many tickets they can sell, I don't think it's because no one wants to go just that they have a massive amount of tickets.

You have to realise they can tell us what they are going to do without telling us how, they don't have to give us the damn code. Edit: That still makes sense to me..

When I first read that myself I thought they said schedule release for a skill, then I read the update part, I also noticed you used the words current methods? I struggle to see any method that has been demonstrated since the release of the wilderness & free trade that wasn't there before. They did something like that last year, they gave ideas and each mod talked about the idea they liked/had and we voted on it. Can't remember for the life of me what it was now.. I never signed anything last year before or during the event to agree to that, as far as I am aware everything they say is free for us to talk about outside of the event. Although this in the faq, might suggest some of the info is off limits.

I think the first question will be answered with something along the likes on how it would be to destructive to game-play, but I see what your getting at. Your 2nd question is the one on everyone's mind, and one that will hopefully be addressed. I honestly think they've kept in the shadows because they have not made any gains in the war against the bots, but with this latest update to RuneFest and what appears to be a turnaround on what they originally said, have they got something in the works? This has got me intrigued. Thanks. Edit, Thanks DarkDude, I was going to address them myself but probably not a good idea as the OP if I want to be taken seriously. You've posted exactly what needed to be said, shame nobody will learn from it.

Yes, a group of us were told the same thing in the RuneFest Friends chat, maybe something has caused them to change their minds, or they just realised it would be almost impossible to ignore. I planned to bring something up no matter what, I wasn't quite sure what I was going to say but I was planing to ask something in one of the larger sessions.

Forum Restructuring - Completed
The ideas seem good, one suggestion I might add is that in some of the less busy forums like tech forum when someone posts a detailed thread about a new build they've done & it's moved into some lame picture thread sticky because they used pictures of the build, needs to ease up a bit. The forum itself isn't the most busy & moving posts into stickys hides them from view creating more of a chance it will be missed resulting in less discussion. I'm not saying moderators are doing a bad job, in fact they are great, but I feel the strictness they have developed from when this forum was sometimes frantic can ease off now that it's not as lively. Basically review some of the stickys, & what's forced into them as I feel it's suffocating some posts that could spark debate as well as life into some forums. Yes this is written out of personal bitter experience, but also because I feel I have a valid point.

fyi all chaos monsters on the map drop axe Which is what I said.. fyi.. I just listed them because you asked if all the monsters in there dropped the pickaxe, and the black guard don't.
