Summoning Theories Alright, we all know a new great skill, summoning, is going to be released on January 08! What we dont know is how it will work and what effects it will have on the game. Lets use this thread to post and discuss our theories! The best or more popular theories will be edited in the first post! Theories so far: [hide=Aoe325] Alright we have to consider some FACTS here : - The summoning skill will be useful for plenty of things, one of these is combat. - If summoning works in the way we could imagine it at first, a level 3 with lvl 99 summoning could unbalance the combat system Here are somepossible solutions : - Have the sumonning skill raise your combat level, which means being able to level over the 126th level. (Very unlikely in my opinion) - The summons you can use will be limited by your levels, example : you can only summon a level 80 mommy if you're at least level 100 combat level or something - The effectiveness of your summons is directly affected by your stats : Summons would herit 75% of your stats levels. so if you have 40 hitpoint your summon will have 30. - You cannot control your character and directly take control of the summon! (would be really nice! But again unlikely) Random stuff : They said how it could be to hunter what smithing is to mining which means hunter will be massively updated with alot of new methods of catching, and even areas. All of that put together is definitely not something one should ignore. It could change Runescape so much it would be known as Runescape After Summoning, and everything before has Runescape Before Summoning. [/hide] [hide=Dragonlordjl]I hope this is how Summoning operates: 1) You cannot be targeted by anything other than multi-target magic spells (which will hit both you and your Familiar, regardless if you are in single or multi-way combat) while you have a Familiar summoned. In turn, you cannot directly attack the opponent, but while a Familiar is summoned, you gain a new set of abilities when you right-click on somebody. Left clicking an opponent will cause the familiar to physically attack them, while you would be able to choose from other attacks on the right-click menu, which would vary depending on the Familiar. Trade/follow options would be disabled while you have a Familiar present. 2) It requires a several second animation to summon a Familiar, which if you perform any action, stops the Summoning Ritual. This includes moving, eating, or teleporting. Stronger Familiars would require a longer ritual to call forth. In addition, you can fail the Summoning Ritual. 3) Your Familiar has a limited amount of damage it can sustain; naturally, higher level Familiars have higher HP, hopefully up to 255 for a level 99 Summoning Familiar. 4) Your Familiar vanishes after a certain period of time elapses, provided it is not slain. The amount of time your Familiar stays by your side would depend on your Summoning level. There might also be a "cool-down" period after summoning a creature, during which you could not summon that creature. This would mainly apply to the higher level, more powerful Familiars. Also, there might be a "special bar" for Familiars, which gradually decreases until it reaches zero (after which the Familiar vanishes) as you perform special activities such as maybe having a Familiar super-heat ore for you. 5) Experience would be awarded for a variety of different tasks, such as having a Familiar super-heat ore for you (which would give Smithing experience AND Summoning experience) or the Familiar dealing damage to a target (it would give controlled experience, to whatever type of combat you had it perform, as well as to Summoning.) Ideally, you would also receive experience for performing a successful Summoning Ritual.[/hide] [hide=Monkeyboo2]Well my idea on how it will work is there will be combat and non-combat monsters. (hopefully using existing monsters). After lvl 70 you may be able to use 2 non-combat summons at a time. Combat (not allowed for pvp) e.g, lvl 1- imp. lvl 5-Goblin lvl 10 Spider lvl 15 Thief (BONUS- increase theif lvl by 4) .... lvl 80 lesser demon. lvl 90 Greater demon lvl 99 Baby Dragon You must put your summon away after a while or there is a chance it may turn against you for overworking it! ( to stop ppl always using the best stuff). Only usable against monsters and only in multicombat. Cannot be used against other summons. Non-combat There will be afew types. For example: Skill Animals Pets (they just follow you around) Collecters. Pets lvl 25-Dog (eats meat, chews bones)(activity-fetch) lvl 40-Monkey (eats bananas)(activity-climb) lvl 55-Snake (eats rats)(activity-snake charm) ... lvl 99 baby dragon etc. These just follow you round ad perhaps do a cool emote. You may have to feed them with special food and ndo sepcial activities with each one to keep it happy. Collecter animals lvl 10 Squirrel- collects seeds at a slow rate. 1 per hr? lvl 20 Magpie- collects gold/silver objects at a slow rate. lvl 30 Magic sheep- Spawns wool at a medium rate. 3 per hr? lvl 40 Monkey (also pet)-collects fruit at a medium rate. lvl 50 Kestrel- collects meat at a medium rate. lvl 60 Pelican- collects fish at medium rate. lvl 70 Squirrel (2)- Collects seed at medium rate. lvl 80 Monkey (2)- collects fruit at fast rate. lvl 90 Pelican (2)- collects fish at a fast rate. 6 per hr? Skill related animals. lvl 25 Dog (also pet)- increase hunting lvl by 2, collects hunted animal for you. lvl 30 Lion-increases slayer lvl by 2, increases slayer item drop chances. lvl 40 Monkey (also pet)- increases agility and theif by two ... high lvl things become much more advanced: lvl 99- Baby dragon. May Smith 20 items per hr. May cook 40 items per hr. May smelt 40 items per hr. May craft 20 jewellries per hr. May light 40 fires per hr. Skill animals may give xp multiplyers to the given skill. Maybe over time your animals become more effective because you nurture them with food and play, so a monkey may increase agil and theif by 4. etc you get xp for being helped by the animals, for example if a squirrel collects a seed for you, you get 50 xp. If a baby dragon helps you cook a tuna you get 1.2x cooking xp (120xp) and 200 summoning xp. Overall i think that summoning will give new ways to do existing skills.[/hide] [hide=fakeitormakeit]I was thinking summoning would be a supporting skill and have the least bit to do with combat. Perhaps when they say beasts of burden, you might, say, summon a donkey to help carry your ores back to the bank from mining but in order to summon it conditions x must be met and material(s) y must be exhausted in the processes, I'd be sure said animal could be used on also fishing and woodcrafting to carry extra supplies back to the bank and as you would advance in summoning you'd unlock new animals to summon which have more holding capacity. In hunter you would maybe have a hunting dog, which could open up a whole new world of hunter or might just ease the already existing huntable animals and the dog also might be able to carry one extra dead animal carcass. The higher your hunter the more chance you have of successfully catching something OR the more there is to be caught. I can't really think of many more ways summoning might be applied other then small creatures which would assist you in pvm battles only and some sly animal, maybe a monkey would assist you in thieving from stalls by distraction or helps pickpocket. Of course there would be a limitation on how many beasts you summon at once and for when using the best to complete what ever task, the amount of xp you'd normally recieve would be [slightly] reduced because your being assisted and you'd gain summoning xp everytime you summoned something and after z period of time the beast(s) would vanish). Also, up until recently I was assosicating summoning way too much with necromancy to the extent that there would be no other form of summoning other then necromancy, and I thought (which could possiblely be a branch of summoning) you could slay/hunt/find carcass of said animal and resurrect it. O I also just remembered, maybe you could summon a fox and they could be used as a telegrab sort of item. And I might just be guessing now, trying to stick an explanation to items but maybe eggs are to coax a snake to appear, or make a bird appear.(snake=combat partner, bird=good thief).[/hide] Some basic rules to respect : - Please do not post if you have no interest in the summoning skill or dislike it, we're not here to discuss if it's a good update or not. - If you take an idea from someone else's theory, please give them short credit. - Do not post theorys that go against what has been revealed by Jagex. - If I put your theory on the first post and you want to update it please send me a private message, do not ask here.
