  1. Perhaps +10 strength is a bit too much, but if the Book of War had +8 Strength and +5 Prayer (no attack or defense stats), it would still be the most valuable book... So I thought, what the hell :) Maybe it will lower some zammy prices Prayer books not being the best in their class is also a bit of bull... Unholy Book (Zamorak) was for years the best to use for maging, and still is the best option for rangers...
  2. See http://forum.tip.it/topic/273320-how-it-should-have-ended/ for my opinion/analysis
  3. I'm for hire to give them a set of stats for all items ;)
  4. As we all can see from the Knowledge Base, a lot of new items came out with a lot of new stats for us to compare... I like the idea of Zaros, Bandos and Armadyl obviously coming more into play as Jagex has thusfar censored every appearance of Zaros to Ancient... Not anymore, apparently... And while some of these items are awesome (I like the Zaros Platebody for example) they certainly failed with a bunch of stats... Lets start with the Prayer books... The Books of Law (Armadyl), War (Bandos) and the Ancient Book (Zaros): Guthix prayer book has always fallen short, and was nothing more then a cheap alternative to either the fully offensive (Zamorak) or the fully defensive (Saradomin)... The perfect opportunity exists now for Jagex to quickly adapt the stats of the new books, because lets face it; none of the new ones come close in usefulness when comparing them with Zamorak or Saradomin's book, and noone is buying them to show some awesome-ish recitement of standardized texts... So how should they have done the stats? (if no other stats shown, they are 0) Book of Law: +10 Range attack / +10 Range defense / +5 Prayer Book of War: +10 Strength / +5 Prayer Ancient Book: +5 Magic attack / +5 Magic defense / +5 Prayer / +5% magic damage bonus With these stats they fall into their proper categories, fit with the storyline and general culture of said God, and have actually a use to them. Do not worry about rarity, the price adjustments over time will help some of that :) Next up, the Third Age Druid set... While it will look awesome when trying to blend in at Taverly, the stats are quite rubbish... Proselyte looks a lot better for the actual purpose of having a REALLY long prayer time... And who knows what Acolyte and Partisan armors bring us in the future... The only useful piece here is the wreath (headgear), everything else has its superior already... Unfortunately, I can think of no places where you'd be fine with JUST high Prayer bonus, and no other offensive or defensive stats, so there is no way for me to improve on this... Then finally the Saradomin/Zamorak/Guthix bow and arrows... What? Elemental Damage on arrows? The ONLY useful elemental damage so far has been fire damage on Ice Strykewyrms and Frost Dragons... On top of that, I would have expected Guthix to be related more to the element of Air (see rune cost of Claws of Guthix) rather then Earth... Now I do not know how much extra damage that will be, but it looks to be very costly per shot taken if it was any effective... One thing is good about these arows; their ranged strength bonus increases as you increase your Ranged level, up to a maximum of +60 at level 70... But, on to the stats of the bows. +80 range bonus and +4 prayer. Nice, finally a prayer bonus for an actual 2 handed bow. If only I could add some prayer bonus to my one handed Rune Xbow... Oh wait  <_< ... Sadly, the God Bows (while having very nice Special attacks), do not compare to a Rune Xbow comboed with Zamorak's book of prayers (or Armadyl's if I had my way)... I am yet unfamiliar with their attack speed or range, but these cannot make up for what could have been a revolutionary ranged weapon... For a level 4 clue, they could have upped the requirements to then increase the Ranged attack bonus? There you have it folks, my complete review of how the items would have worked out better if they had a few tweaks... PS: Since a bunch of Zaros Ancient items now have positive prayer bonus... Can the -1 prayer now be removed from the Ancient Staff? Credits to my clan for inspiring me to write this...
  5. It does... Thanks :) And yeah, you're right... As said, I too had a few misfires, but I'd like to think that other articles I wrote make up for that, and that the same goes for the other writers... If not, then if it concerns me, I'd like to know about it :) Any further than it already has? Impossible :P Btw, get your ass into the channel sometime soon? :) Also somethign I'd like to clarify: The editorial panel is not gagged by anyone or anything. I can submit whatever I like to be published, and if I dont directly insult people in some way shape or form, it gets published for you to read... Last article I wrote on botting, and I added a disclaimer "just in case"... But its not needed...
  6. They moved on I'm still here, thank you very much (I think I'm actually the longest serving author)... And I'd like to believe my articles are getting better on average since the day I started 2 and a half years ago... But yea, I had a few misfires (I can think of only one), its only natural and to be expected when you've been writing this long... Your point?
  7. I'm goign to (mostly) avoid the discussion about the first article... It's been written, and while in my opinion it could have driven the point home just as harshly without the insults, I still agree with the overall point of the article... Some of the responses here actually prove it... not what I wanted to talk about... What irks me are the numerous claims that the Tip.it Times has decended on a whole in quality... I've written an article not too long ago on how I experienced first writing for the times, and how it is these days, 2 and a half years later... The one thing that is the hardest to do is to keep finding new new things to write about (you can walk down memory lane only so many times), and yes sometimes you check the forums for inspiration, and sometimes you deliberately dont... Yes, fresh blood is always nice, but to my knowledge, the Times does not activly recruit... I've asked a few of my clan mates, and we got one good writer and one good editor out of it... But the truth is... The Times provides a platform, and not everyone wants that spotlight... I can still play without hordes of random people PM-ing me about whatever article I posted this month, but I can imagine that for other players its a bit different... But if you know someone that you think can write on an interesting level and a once-a-month basis, then by all means, PM me for a time and location to make the introductions and I'll take it form there...
  8. Hmm, some views here that do not entirely match mine... But (and these are spoiilers) I'll incorporate my views on this in my upcoming Times article :D (I know my last one was on bots, but im not done with cheaters just yet)
  9. Its where the news is heard before it comes on here :) And being a 90s product... good or bad thing? ;)
  10. Let me state again... It is a TEXT based browser game... Aka, when you refresh a page, you suddenly have it say that a fleet of ships is coming your way... it doesnt show you the actual footage of the ships, its just a multiplayer excel sheet...
  11. AKA a crappy Sci-Fi themed text-based browser game that has seen a million copies of it, quite a few of which are far better versions of the original... I learned about this because my clan has its channel on the same IRC server as that entire game (and several others) is... So how crappy is this game? My clan is the top active channel ON THAT ENTIRE IRC server, and this game is not even in the top 5... My guess is they just bought it to advertise it to space freaks :) Link: http://www.planetarion.com/news/news/read/295-jagex-purchases-planetarion SRSly, their entire forum is slightly more active then just General Discussions here... Anyone else wanna take a stab at why they bought it?
  12. Speaking of Bill... Anyone found a pic of HIM yet?
  13. Just like full blown blaster mages should, as well as THEIR dungeroneering equipment...
  14. TBH, I can pretty much accept unprofessionalism from Runescape... Every single large gaming investor has turned Jagex down, and as evident, tried it themselves... So far, no game has yet managed to surpass RuneScape... Stick it to the man, Gerhard, their fault for not tagging along the massivly prosperous project that is RuneScape :) But, let's be somewhat realistic... The only TRUE test if Jagex is that much more awesome then Sony, EA, or Activision, is if Stellar Dawn becomes the 2nd most popular free game on the net :)
  15. TS Stormrage likes this... +1 Finally someone explained it for the uninformed in proper english :)
  16. You do need to log in to Ticketmaster in order to print your ticket...
  17. Rofl... never thought about it this way, but you're right. That's actually really crafty... there will definitely be people who would think they'll end up getting their refund and will only pay for that, then, when Jagex don't refund... lulz. :P I disagree. Most of RuneScape might be like that, But I sure hope most adults or older teens with the money and ability to get into this event aren't that stupid. If they are, I'll have my camera ready :D
  18. The "buying for max/min" offers, would dissapear... Manipulation would become very visible, and prices would remain more constant... Also, if the GE price now changes with every order, then it no longer needs to balance out the total exchanges made in the last period to determine the price of the coming period... The price on the GE would become an average of all the outstanding offers, rather then what has been sold (aka an average of current possible trades, rather then an average of previous trades)... I admit I havent worked out the idea thoroughly enough, but one thign I am sure about; once every 24 hours on average is BY FAR not enough...
  19. While that may work on some bots, most of them are "smart" enough to have accept aid turned off, hence not being affected at all...
  20. As a RuneFest ticket (and flag) holder, I can't say I'm sad to hear this. I do understand the controversy, though. But let me clarify something for everyone: The people that bought a ticket to RuneFest aren't rich (I'm not), nor are they all dedicated... If you're not rich, but play RS and happen to live near London, then RuneFest might have been your holiday for the summer. I don't think Jagex is suggesting that now only the most dedicated players will show up. Personally I'm convinced that there were only 500 tickets to be sold, or somewhere around that, which isn't nearly enough for all dedicated players out there. Lets also not forget that a round trip from across the atlantic and back costs about 1500 dollars, so this will be a welcome discount for those people, if any. All and all, there is no such thing as a free lunch. I wouldnt pretend to know what the cost of food and drink at the venue itself is like. All we know is that the cost of the event itself come from the marketing budget, and how big has that been lately... Sad enough are the people that still want one of those lunches, and it are those people that scream now "I would've gone if I knew it was gonna be free"... Yeah, you and the rest of the 5 million people that play. So finally; quit your whining. I wouldnt be surprised if Jagex took the Runefest flag out of the game after that weekend. And people will complain then too about "where their precious little 'unique' item that 'they paid for' has gone to". But I've stopped making my case that there will always be complainers... All that Jagex now knows is that the people at RuneFest were willing to pay 75 pounds for stuff they didn't know what it was, at a location that didn't exist yet. I don't blame them if they call those people committed...
  21. I thought you wanted criticism... I do :) but if people focus on the grammar and spelling, instead of the message the article brings, then you're not going to convince me you've read the article the way it was meant :)
  22. Some people have to be dragged kicking and screaming ino the next century... Be glad that for you "the next century" means the 21st...
  23. And you sir, are one of the annoying nitpickers I talk about in my article, and therefor your criticism is often ignored :D
  24. Fish dropping while Brews rise makes sense... But why did the cooked swordfish drop from 500 to 425 in less then a week time...
  25. Well thanks :) (wuts indomitable?) Just remember, there are other writers out there too who do need to be cut some slack (some of em are new on the job), and rather then full blown criticism, try 'steering' them with advice... ... BTW... I figured, having covered inflation issues on NUMEROUS occasions, I should be able to comment on this rocky issue too... Fact: A one time money shot in the economy is absolutely incomparable to the continuous influx of GP that happens on a daily basis... Let's compare it to a recent event. What happened with the Rock Climbing Boots sudden increase in (alch)value in ratio to the influx of money through PVP Statues is like an oil spill... Only the Rock Climbing Boots can be compared to an oil tanker flipping over, while the PVP money generated is like BP's current oil spill... One drops a lot in a single day, the other dorps less but adds to it day after day after day... You get the picture... Fact: The change may have been needed, I agree that certain stats should have some value... But the current alch value is too high though, compared to the Rune and Dragon counter parts. If its had been lower, somewhere around 5k, noone would care... FACT: If jagex is going to reprise items, all they need to do is relex or even remove price ROOFS... I understand price bottoms, they are in place to protect noobs form buying stuff below its alch value... But take Swordfish for example... If it were not for the recent drop in price since last week, one could argue that it needed repricing too... Conclusion: Some items are bought in the shop for a reason; they are either too cheap NOT to, or its the only way to get more of em... In the former case, you only need to adjust the price and/or supply of said item along with relaxing price roofs... Jagex fumbled on handling this, but the overall result now means that climbing boots wont be in circulation anymore, and people will switch to adamant or rune boots instead... And funny enough, thats the end of that whole panic (srsly ppl, get over it)...
