  1. There is proof that she was warned to stop showing affection at school, repeatedly broke the rules and was repeatedly disciplined for her refusal to follow the rules. There is NO PROOF that she was discriminated against. You can't site her unproven claims as evidence. And please explain to me how I'm a hypocrite instead of just making a blanket statement. Remember our little debate in the police-SUV driver thread? That is the biggest spin on words I've ever read. In the SUV argument it was a "could have" situation involving the danger of someone's life. This is completely different. And I am not against could have situations, but because what was done was perfectly okay with the school's rights, you can't sue the school for other things it COULD have done. There is no relation in the two. I wasn't referring to suing the school for what they could've done. I'm saying they could've avoided being sued if they had played things safe and not given too much detail into the situation - but enough. The parents are not entitled to knowledge of the daughter's sexuality. Maybe what she did was wrong - maybe her claims were wrong, but the school should not have stated that it was with another girl.

  4. Good stuff ... were you trying to play a riff from a particular song in Day 4?
  5. http://www.aclu.org/lgbt/youth/19925prs20050907.html http://www.queerday.com/2005/sep/13/lesbian_teen_charlene_nguon_sues_garden_grove_school_district.html http://www.*.com/news/article.html?2005/12/01/4 http://articles.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20051202141509990008 Hmm ... They "could" have done a 100 different things. But the whole point is that what they did was well within their authority. Exactly. That entire point has been said repeated times but the defenders of her case seem lack the ability to comprehend it. You can't sue someone because you wish they handled it differently if what they did was legal. What I also don't understand is that the ACLU fights for the rights of sex education at ANY level and in ANY way in schools. So kids have the right to tell their parents their sexual orientation on their own terms, but parents don't have the right to teach their kids about sex on THEIR own terms? The ACLU strikes again - protecting only the freedoms they see fit. I find it rather hypocritical that you're now going against the "could have" scenarios.
  6. Its perfectly reasonable for a school to say "Your daughter was seen partaking in some extreme displays of affection with another girl" just as I have often heard of it being said "Your daughter was seen partaking in some extreme displays of affection with a boy." In this case, it is obviously a very touchy situation. If she was, after all, breaking the rules, then the school should exercise their rights and punish her, and, if need be, inform her parents. However, when a controversial factor such as homosexuality is present, care must be taken, and the school should do their best to avoid invading her privacy. They could have just as easily said it was with another person and not a girl; thus avoiding informing her parents of something they may not know.
  7. Since when are schools obliged to tell parents of every single little punishment? It's the first I've heard of it. And, additionally, there are other ways the schools could've informed her parents - they could've said that she partook in overt displays of affection. If that was breaking the rules, then that's all they had to say. The fact that they specified that it was with a girl suggests that there were some ulterior motives there.
  8. Courtesy of Bash.org ... #166427 +(621)- [X] <@Infinik> Hehe. <@Infinik> I just took a call for the Samaritans <@Infinik> Our phone numbers are one number apart <@Infinik> So this guy was talking to me about some charity [cabbage] <@Infinik> And I interrupted him <@Infinik> "Would you excuse me for a moment?" "Sure." "HEY JULIO! I SAID DON'T LET THE JEWISH KIDS IN WITH THE HUMAN KIDS YOU SON OF A [bleep]!" <@Infinik> He hung up :)
  9. Regardless of age or sexual preference if you're in school and you're school has a rule against displaying affection then you're not allowed to display affection. She wasn't warned repeatedly to stop being homosexual, she was warned repeatedly to stop breaking school rules. She was warned repeatedly to stop and was suspended numerous times for not stopping. When school officials take disciplinary action you can't expect them to lie to her mother. It doesn't matter what "people do nowadays" and it doesn't matter how extreme her displays of affection were. There's might be many ways to break a rule but in the end it's the same thing. She broke the rules. After doing a little reasearch I'm thinking she wasn't discriminated against. It seems to me she's just immature and stubborn. I'm guessing a lot of couples were told to stop displaying affection in public but her and her girlfriend thought they had to make a point so they kept doing it. You can't lobby for privacy of the same thing you made public. And you can't argue discrimination for being punished when you break the rules. Proof for these statements, please.
  10. But he wasn't a user - he was just smuggling it. Rehab or detox would've had no purpose.
  11. I'm slightly torn on this. He doesn't receive my sympathy, and I think the case has been over-sensationalized by bleeding-hearts with their minds in the gutter. He deserved punishment. Granted, part of the argument is based on speculation ... but chances are, that he would've indirectly caused some deaths there. Perhaps the punishment is a little too harsh - I'd say life imprisonment would be more fitting. Regarding the whole Bali bombing stuff ... that's Indonesia, not Singapore. I think maybe he should've been allowed to hug his mother. But, in general, the whole case has been greatly blown out of proportion - the vigils, the church bells and the amnesty tributes were stupid and redundant, especially when they have so many more things to care about (i.e. people who actually HAVE been wrongly imprisoned). So, yeah.
  12. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/151726 ... lines=true And rightly so, as far as I'm concerned. EDIT: the stars are the censored version of the three letter slang term for homosexuality.
  13. He/she didn't include alternative rock, hip-hop rock, hard rock, industrial rock, euro-pop, J-pop, J-rock or any other sub-genres. Heavy metal is given the title for a reason - it is heavy.
  14. You're more likely to get a mime, gameshow or maze when your inventory is full, correct?
  15. What songs give you that impression?
  16. This may seem a tad fascist of me, but many bands mentioned here are NOT underground. For most underground bands, their CD's must be ordered from Amazon, Ebay or the bands' official site. There are a few levels of mainstream - stuff like Green Day, Britney, U2 - things everyone knows about. Then there's another level of it, that's kinda in between, which a lot of bands mentioned here fit into (Lamb of God, In Flames, CKY, Killswitch Engage, Arcade Fire), and then there's actual underground music - bands that generally don't reach ANY charts, with CD's that in most cases ordered or bought from small independant music stores, and which rarely get soundtrack appearances, tour worldwide or anything similar (unless they're opening).
  17. I really don't think NIN fit the 'industrial' genre anymore.
  18. Well just now I opened the famous chest in taverly for the first time. I received an uncut dragonstone, as always, and three runite bars. Pretty good I think. What are your best? Or all of your other rewards from it?
  19. Still doesn't match up to Downward Spiral. I love NIN (who is actually one guy in the studio), and With Teeth was great but other than TDS, all NIN albums (including Broken & Still) are equal to me. I eagerly await their return to Australia, and the follow-up to With Teeth (which TR is currently working on).
  20. Homosexuality - Homosexuality is natural, and it is not sinful for members of the same sex to lust for one another. However, because members of the same sex cannot marry, all sexual activity amongst same sex members is forbidden. The rules stay the same, marriage is a requirement for sex. God said that those who can control their urges are more favorable. Contraception - Contraception is not forbidden in Islam. Disease - Disease is disease... nothing special about it. Excellent ... thanks for clearing that up. Much appreciated.
  21. I blame myself a lot too ... I'm very apologetic for things and I feel that if something's gone wrong in one of my relationships/friendships, it's always my fault. It seems to really annoy my best friend as well.
  22. Well they certainly aren't underground. I hate them but I acknowledge their 'mainstreamness', evident by the fact that they're headlining the biggest Australian music festival - over the very first punk outfit who have been around since the 60s or 70s.
  23. The White Stripes are in no way underground. They're as commercial and mainstream as you can get in rock these days, as far as I'm concerned. Killswitch Engage aren't underground either, and nor are DFA1979. The latter two aren't mainstream either of course; more in-between. My favourite underground bands: Professional Murder Music Sulpher Coil Tweaker Tim Skold John 5 Skinny Puppy Team Sleep Granted, the last half isn't too underground ... but I'd be surprised if anyone has heard of or heard work by only two of these artists, if any.
