Global Warming Solutions
im not even an american, and i can see how much of a burden bush has been on america and the world. the sad thing about global warming is greed - big oil companies - OPEC - only want one thing - money, they dont care about the environment, fundamentally. its a sad fact, but seeing the power that these huge companies have, its hard to see a change of car/vehicle fuel until crude oil runs out.

Global Warming Solutions
Australia (where i live) is very insignificant in terms of greenhouse emissions in comparison with the USA and china for example. If we tackle the problem in just a few key countries such as those previously mentioned, te problem could potentially be halved or better.

Global Warming Solutions
not so long ago i did an english assignment/presentation on global warming.. lets see if i can remember it. personal - install energy efficient appliances/lights. limit shower time, energy use, amount of time spent driving the car. government - steer towards cleaner energy sources - solar, nuclear, wind, hydroelectric. Subsidise cleaner fuels for cars such as LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and hydrogen. Regulate the automotive industry to ensure thier designs are energy efficient(generally happens anyway becuase car companies realise people are now concious of global warming) Invest money into carbon-netural(tree planting basically) and carbon-zero (zero-emmisions technologies) programs. Perhaps even tax industry for thier emissions(this is a tricky one, dont want to scare of industry and therefore lower economy.) ill think of more later..

stem cell research
i dont think youd know if you were.. i resent that you think wanting to cure hundreds of life-altering/threatening diseases is heartless. agreed. good point. agreed. agreed. so, should we never use contraception? because thats potential life down the toilet too. If you think about it, any organic matter has potential to be part of human life.. so dont eat that steak!!. What about a baby who dies of SIDS? they had potenial for life.. moral of the story - life isnt fair.
-
Ok.. this is somthing very strange
can you explain what is so scary, ill agree, its rediculous and wierd, just try and explain it to me because i got bored and closed it.

stem cell research
whoa, slow down man. said i couldnt remember who said it, just glanced over a few things. someone got in A in biology =D> , i agree. yea, the 'bunch of cells' that makes up a human being are superiorly complex when compared to a blastocyst. once could argue that the human body is the most complex arrangement of matter in the universe - tissue, organs, bodily systems and all goverened by a single genetic code, present in every cell of your body (with a nucleus), i find biochemistry/ human biology fascinating. a blastocyst but... absolutely no defined bodily organs or systems, you'd need a pretty expensive microscope to see a blastocyst ('roud 150 cells) too, i rekon. its my belief that a blastocyst is just a piece of biological matter, as is a human body, they have no value and are disposable (they say that 98% of the atoms in your body will be replaced in 1 year with the food you eat) its the mind of the person which has value - makes us who we are. But a blastocyst dosent have a brain and hence no cognitive 'mind.' just another thought.

the key word the more i read the latter stages of this post, the more it becomes evident how the writings of the bible dont allign with present times.

didnt actually know that. didnt do physics in school so most of the stuff discussed from your comment on is kinda new to me, interesting though.

stem cell research
why blame stem cell research, overpopulation is already happening, already inevitable. I cant say i agree with the argument that any healing leads to overpopulation and is bad for the huma race (cant remember who said it, sorry) why dont i agree? becuase Jesus healed people too, and healing the sick makes them better and more able to participate in society. also - your against stem cell research, and i suppose abortion, yes? what if there was no abortion at all, what about no contraception, either. How would the population of earth look then? from memory, i dont believe this is true. the cells you speak of are adult stem cells, they are already partially differentiated which means what cells they can turn into is severely limited. on the other hand, embryonic stem cells can turn into any human bodily cell, they have much more potential.

Technology, is there a point which it is bad for a society?
stem cell research - as long as the donors give consent for thier 'donation' to be used, its ok by me. the potential for groundbreaking medical advancement and the ability to cure heaps of diseases is huge. plastic surgury - kinda good - makes people more self-confident (in a slightly superficial sort of way) bad - put a sociatal emphasis on looking good and makes those who dont 'fit the mould' to get depressed and have low self-esteem. illegal downloads - kinda good - gives the artist wide publicity very bad - severely limits profits for the artist interesting topics, hope this helps.

stem cell research
good news if your for stem cell research and an aussie (like me) just heard on the news the parliment passed a bill for the cloning of embryos for stem cell research.

Time Travel? possible?
according to crrent physics, im pretty sure you cant exist in the same point in space-time twice. know why they call it a continuum? because it keeps going, pretty sure it dosent go backwards.

stem cell research
to spare desperate mothers and unwanted children years of heartache and disadvantage. good point. exactly, if people say that this is 'playing god' then by thier logic, taking a pain killer is playing god, because it 'goes against nature' ... another good point made, it would be interesting to see how a 'pro-life' advocate would react if they had parkinsons and a doctor said that they could cure it with stem cells... its a real possibility with this new technology and where scientists are taking it.

thanks for your input, not familiar with that experiment but, ill look it up now.

Time Travel? possible?
and if people from the future did come back (reminds me of a south park episode - they took our jobs!! ) to warn us of the dangers in future, it wouldnt change the situation for the time traveller's population of people, but if it did and if we were warned and changed our present day action to avoid, say, a war, then, by logic, those from the future who died in the war should come back from the dead  besides, no one can come from the future, because it hasent happened yet, unless theres some super-freaky parallel universe thing going on. i think all the above makes sense, just dont take my word for it  :P

stem cell research
Recently i heard on the news that in the UK, scientists are on the verge of curing the often permanent brain injuries sustained during a stroke with the use of stem cells cultivated from an aborted embryo. I know this is a touchy subject, but i cant help but sigh every time ethics stands in the way of potentailly life-saving science. Is it just me or does the mission of making the world a better place seem to be constantly interupted by those who cant help but stick thier nose in other peoples affairs. After all, its not thier embryo being killed. It should really be the donors choice (and no one elses) to give thier eggs/sperm/aborted embryos to aid in stem cell research. What do you think?

Who here is agnostic?
then your not an agnostic agnosticism is believing that weather a god exists or not cannot be proven either way, and is therefore useless to debate the issue. i am an agnostic.
