Stumped Teacher.
from memory (just finished yr 12 bio) nucleotides can mis-pair which is what gives rise to mutations in the genetic code and therefore the organism. These mutations are actually the integral mechanism in evolution. (the mutaions which make the organism more suited to its environment/resistant to disease/predation will ensure that that organism is naturally selected, if you believe in the darwinian concept of evolution [the main one]) i find genetics is an incredibly interesting branch of science

defining/catagorizing people, right or wrong?
i understand what u are saying mate, but i cant agree with you on this one. my view is that you are right, what we wear basically puts us into a stereotype, but i dont agree with the resulting ignorant attitude on the behalf of society.

Cricket: The Ashes, Australia Vs. England
dont know really, hopefully, for his sake, its by the next test (melb, boxing day it hink it is) because hes a great cricketer and has plenty of years ahead of him. good luck to him. but for now, Symo is a great replacement, and i hope he gets the nod for Perth

defining/catagorizing people, right or wrong?
its our subjective perception that forms opinions, we all see things in different ways, and hence think in different ways. to say that making stereotypical judgements forms our opinions would mean that we'd have a more conformist society, not less. a police officer's uniform is designed to make u know who they are. Its not so much an assumption you make, as a sign saying 'i am a cop'

Anybody play normal games?
before i start, i just skimmed over your post, i hope what i have to say is accurate. i like to play games of trivia/general knowlege and poker - texas holdem (not on the CPU, like actually with real people) . I rekon its a welcome alternative to the flood of CPU games out there.

Cricket: The Ashes, Australia Vs. England
how about we have a show of opinion, ill make a tally: who would prefer: Andrew Symonds -------------------------------------- 4 Adam Voges (i think thats him) or; ------------------ Brad Hodge (another good option, id suggest) ------ for the no. 4 spot in Perth.

defining/catagorizing people, right or wrong?
i personally hate stereotypes and just people assuming things about others generally. it really defeats the purpose of everyone being an individual and sets up a society of conformity. it makes me  :x  :x :notalk: edit: what especially annoys me is when i was at school, when there was a teacher i didnt personally know, they would just assume, for some reason, that i was a bad person and i was up to no good. But when they got to know me, they knew i was a good person and treated me with respect. I think god himself is crying right now at how cruel people can be.

Why is?
so you were agreeing with me? im sorry, it just seemed as if you were refuting what i was saying. in reference to this, no there is no nuclear fission/fusion or radiation (radioactive decay, living things can still emit forms of radiation) in living things. Yes, our bodies are too stable for it and any radioactive substance is harmful in large doses (some can be helpful in small doses, i.e. radio-therapy). And yes, i believe that carbon-14 in living things degenerates into another isotope (C-12) with a half life of around 5900 years? cant remember exactly. This radiation and the measure of the ratio of C-12 to C-14 in organic matter is the basis of carbon-dating.
