  1. Because you need to stop being lazy and actually do a little leg work to find something so simple.
  2. RuneHQ also uses tons of ads that advertise "RS Gold", which breaks the real world trading rules. Their forum also handles less than half the users Tip.It currently has along side 1/3 the post count. Just because another forum seemingly handles it doesn't mean Tip.It will under twice or three times the load. The same goes for the users liking it. This is a FORUM, not an arcade.
  3. Heheh, no. It is XP with a couple of things tacked on. that'll be vista then ^^ i think media centre is pretty good, if only for the new paint job and the whole TV tuner/recorder stuff XP MCE is NOT Vista. MCE is XP Pro with media software running on top. It's nothing you couldn't already do with free software or other payed for out of the box stuff. It was just built for the people that have no clue what they're doing with a media center.
  4. Jagex only uses javascript on the game pages to redirect direct links to the game worlds. If you're loading it from the world select page, you won't see a different between javascript on or off. If RS is working in Internet Explorer then Firefox most likely just doesn't know java is installed. Reading threw this MozillaZine KB article would be a good place to start troubleshooting.
  5. I do. If you knew what you were doing you wouldn't be here asking for help because there are much better PHP resources out there than this board. Get them the same way you got the game page and world URLs into your "world switcher". If you got that far by asking other people for it, I stand by my first post, you shouldn't be building one.
  6. Had to find my way over here to give props for the drawing. Great stuff. The jagex post definately doesn't do it justice.
  7. This is why jagex needs to create some kind of API or RSS feed for their website information. News and highscores information would benefit hugely from this but they refuse to. :( Anyway, some kind of automated 5/10 minute check for new game update news (like I brought up earlier) on the extended list would leave the mods free for other duties and could be a good reason for "Don't post updated threads" rules and so on if the system works correctly. People would just have to wait a couple minutes for the discussion thread to show up. Best method in my eyes because it becomes completely hands off once it's written and running. It would just be another thread in the sea of posts for the mods to look after. We do this with the IRC bot I work with and it does quite well announcing news to rooms.
  8. If you are here asking for code help, you shouldn't even be attempting to build a "world switcher". If you can't code it yourself, you don't know how to secure it properly or code it to conform to the new rules.
  9. Because sometimes it's just plain faster to do 2 steps than to waste hours searching the net for a program that does it for you. In the 2 hours you waited for these replys you could have shot and cropped 100+ screenshots.
  10. This is for anything computer related, not just RS topics... Anyway, you missed The Gallery by one index row. You'd have much better luck there with the image guys.
  11. CSS

Cruiser replied to insane's topic in Tech and Computers
Everything in the CSS looks good as far as I can tell. I'm no help the ul/li tags since I've never used them for anything beyond learning what they did. :? ------------------------ Which are things just about every serious website on the planet wants done. Calling it useless then telling us exactly what every website worth it's content constantly uses it for kinda voids your argument.
  12. You can find cans of compressed air in Walmart's electronics section and just about every other office supply store you can find. They can cost a few dollars a can sometimes but it's useful. An example (slightly pricey) from Thinkgeek.
  13. Generally a bad idea to be telling lots of computer illiterate people to be taking fans off heat syncs and case mounts. A can of compressed air and a garage/outdoor area will get you much farther than a vacuum cleaner will also, even with the fans still mounted. This won't help newer computers much, especially those that have higher end graphics cards. It can definitely help out older, slower machines though. Decent little cleanup guide overall, I just wouldn't advice taking things apart (unmounting fans, ect.) unless you already know what you're doing.
  14. That CPU temp sounds way off. My dad's P4 runs so hot it heats his office throughout the winter. :? If you're positive that isn't the ambient temperature, I'd be leaning toward bad/innacurate sensors too. My Athlon doesn't even idle that low. :o
  15. What ever happened to the forum automatically down sizing large pictures like that? I have some random memory that something like that was in effect at some point around here...
  16. External HDs or burners are going to run at least $50, anywhere you get them because of the enclosure. Even our beloved Newegg lists their cheapest prebuilt externals at $50+. :? I'd definitely suggest you get your hands on one though if you have 8gb of photo's to back up. As for the Dell question, yes they'll work. Dell's are no different than any other system when it comes to plugging in an external USB drive.
  17. CSS

I've never used @import. Always used: Either way it shouldn't take any amount of time to update after you've saved/uploaded the changes. Tried a hard F5 refresh to force a reload? :?
  18. How much RAM? OS? Processor? The stuff listed in the sticky...
  19. I don't know how often the RS news tidbit on the front page is updated, but tying that into an automated forum post would void the need for mods to start the thread. Modifying the script to post "game update" news in the general stickies for discussion would do the job nicely. This all depends on how buried the PHP coders are unfortunately.
  20. The sticky was put up to keep posts like these from being made. There have been numerous posts asking the same thing over and over. If people would bother to read the sticky, they would see it also lists several other screen recorders in the thread. :wall:
  21. Jagex uses javascript to redirect direct links to the game pages to the home page. Turning javascript off, clicking the link to load the page and turning javascript back on allows the page to load without redirecting.
  22. Right click the little paper, copy link location, you have your link to that specific post.
  23. The sticky was put there for a reason. Go use it.
  24. I think it's fairly safe to say that the RS libraries will never see the light of day outside the Jagex offices. They've been running for 6 years now and theres still no tangible gains for them in releasing any of their code.
