Preview Sig and Avvy
You could always just send yourself a PM with the signature turned on. This is how I've always done my sig testing. Works rather well.

Get rid of post counts and ranks
/me sighs Yet another post count thread. The huge 15+ page argument about this should have been left here in the forum instead of being removed. Bottom line: The whole 15 page argument boiled down to too many people hugging a number that means absolutely nothing. Low post count users can be very smart and make very useful posts while high post count users can be utter idiots. It has no use but the community complained and it stayed. Another thread on the matter isn't going to change it.

Need help Websense
Websense already blocks well known proxy services and websites (Ex: The ones you find through Google). That's one of it's major functions. Regardless, telling people how to bypass filters has never been allowed here.

Quick question
Using a compressed folder still allows you to view the contents of the folder, just not open the files individually.

Anti-Virus Arguement Resolution
Hey now, I hate Norton for good reason. :P Give a +1 to all of them for me because this thread does nothing to fix the argument over which is best, all it's doing is putting numbers to the opinions.

Improve forum Search
You searched the entire forum didn't you? Searching 1.7m posts for 2 words will return way too many posts, flooded by the market boards specifically. Because there are fewer occurrences (mod removal and so on) and therefore return fewer results. If it's 'completely organized', you should have searched it. Assuming that quote is a typo, asking 'which mining site is best' is a pointless question because each and every mining rock does the exact same thing, regardless of location. If it was asked, you'd be flooded with some 20 different iron mining locations from the opinionated sheeple thinking their location is 'the best', leaving you where you started, with no useful info. Try different locations, use the map to find some close to a bank and use it.

Notes
PM it to yourself, or, better yet, open notepad and save it on your local machine. Duplicating what can already be done with notepad/word/countless other programs is a waste of time.

User's Post Count title now above avatar?
Which theme are you guys using? Moving where the post rank shows up is dependent on where it is in the template, so it may have just been a change in whatever template you use. Edit: It has always appeared right under the username and above the avatar on every theme I've ever seen. :?

What does YOUR computer room look like? Warning large images
If you're going to BS your image, you could at least BS the specs correctly. The supercomputer posted supports up to 512 nodes with 128gb of RAM each (Google the model on the rack doors, you'll find it). That totals 64 tb, not quite 750. It also only uses a 1.9ghz processor in each of its (up to) 512 nodes. Each node is 16 processors. 512 * 16 = 8192 Ghz (still only 8^12, way off 1000^23). The Ghz math is wrong anyways since Ghz don't just multiple out by adding chips. :P You can all safely ignore him.

Need help Websense
Your net admin is an idiot if he won't unblock legitimate research sites. Regardless, talking about how to get around web filtering has always been shunned here because of the other implications it has. Even if we did have way around the annoying pile that is Websense, it probably wouldn't last long with a net admin that refuses to unblock sites for legit work. You're better off just doing the research off site and save yourself the headache.

Laptop Fan Stopped
Taking it to BestBuy will cost you an arm and a leg to have fixed. You're better off just buying a new one and moving your data over. BestBuy and 'GeekSquad' are already insanely overpriced when it comes to basic hardware and will charge you even more for the labor to put the fan in.

It would be nice if people would leave the original thread alone so others can read it...

PRESARIO_RP?
It is the restore partition. Depending on how Compaq runs their restore utilities, it may or may not be needed. My HP laptop can be restored without a partition like that while my dad's laptop needs his. It's nothing malicious, the files are usually hidden to prevent any damage.

Which Internet Security is Best?
You obviously haven't had to deal with it's many flaws and headache inducing "protections". The plain text words that shut your net access off were fun to find on IRC last year. Best. Advice. Ever. Overall, it doesn't really matter what you use. Nod32, AVG, Kaspersky, Panda, TrendMicro (I know, I missed some), will ALL provide you with good security. It's just recommened you stay away from Norton and Mcaffe because of the issues they constantly have and the lack of actual virus protection.

help needed with MS excel.
Select 'Split' in Window to first adjust the frozen area, then freezing will achieve what you wanted to do.

my Fire Fox.....
Firefox is definitely not the problem. It may have been as simple as you using an easily guessed password (something in the dictionary, a name, ect.) if virus and spyware scans didn't turn up anything. Using a mix of letters and numbers is the hardest to crack and will help keep your account secure.

Buying a laptop.
The specs look good. I can't really comment on the price because of AUD to USD conversions. It will definitely do anything basic (school, basic games, ect) and the video card should be able to play most games. It won't be able to play them on high settings but should still be playable. The only thing I would be careful of is jumping into Vista so soon. MS products are known to have issues when they are first released. Vista also has very little software support at the moment, even after a good year of public testing. It will definitely get done whatever you need it to do, you just may have some teething problems getting software to work in the next few weeks since Vista is so new.

It never takes long for pictures with bottles of alcohol to show up (unless those on the shelf are just decorative :anxious: ).

What does YOUR computer room look like? Warning large images
Replace the 17" CRT on the right with a laptop and you have my current setup. The CRT was about 10 years old and finally gave up on me a few months ago. :x

Cleaning PC Fans
Most laptop cases aren't the easiest of things to open. :? Compressed air is still by far the easiest way to clean the dust out, even if takes more than one can. Blowing air both forward and backward through both fan ports will do the best job. It may not get it all right away but it will break it up and still help get it out.

Opera web browser
If you're going to link someone to Firefox, just use the damn Mozilla website. Linking to some stupid IE7 domain is just a waste of time. If you're replying to a thread, you should be trying to HELP, not trying to be funny be linking to a worthless image.

Movies Converted to ipod format
With the converter program you are looking for. I don't know of any iPod converter off the top of my head because I don't need one. Full DVDs takes more effort and telling you how isn't allowed on these boards because of it's questionable legality (and the strong modding against piracy).

Opera web browser
Linking to IE7 is hinting at using Firefox? :? Please step away from your computer and rip the plug from the wall. ---------- Does the fan issues appear on static HTML pages (No flash/dynamic junk)? Is Opera using any funky amount of CPU time after those few hours? :? Flash ads for example running constantly could be using enough CPU time to cause it to heat up. Just a wild guess since nobody else has asked or has any other ideas.

hyper cam?
Whoever moved this here needs to read up (literally up) a little more. I'd think mods would know about this sticky on this...
