  1. FireFox is patched fairly quickly if a severe flaw is found. There is no set patch day. It's rolled out as soon as it's finished and tested if it's a major issue or rolled up into a larger fix and released a little later (like 2.0.0.2 was).
  2. I'm not talking about 3 year old flaws here. The 8 I'm talking about in my last reply are for just 2007 which, again, yielded 2 brand new remote exploits shared between the IE6 and IE7 code base. Even if you do have automatic updates turned on, you're still vulnerable until 'patch Tuesday' roles around, which could range from a few hours to a full month.
  3. I have Norton and Spybot and the both work fine. Yar. Even after all the issues I've had with Norton, it never had issues with spybot being installed. :?
  4. Please learn to search before posting.
  5. Yet the one thing everyone keeps happening to forget is this is a forum, not a billboard. If everyone cared how pretty your signature and avatar looked, the media board would be overflowing with users. It isn't. No one cares how pretty your signature looks. There are already plenty of amazing looking signatures at the old dimensions before they were ever enlarged. Even the minor improvements suggested aren't needed. If they were given, people can then complain 'but you raised it by 5kb here!!!! why not now?!?!?!' a month from now for yet another increase. They're doing perfectly fine the way they are. Leave em the hell alone. :wall:
  6. Even using servers close to your location could be shooting yourself in the foot because you don't know where your packets are coming back down. You could be using a server 50 miles away while your packets are coming back from sat to some place a couple thousand miles away, adding even more latency to everything. :wall:
  7. I mean it is in literally thousands of very easy to find places.
  8. IE7 has already been patched for several flaws also found in IE6. Simply upgrading doesn't make the IE security holes go away. A quick Secunia search shows 8 advisories, 6 currently unpatched with 2 (the patched 2) allowing system access. Running hijackthis and posting a log for us to look over would be a good idea. Running your virus scan in safe mode along wide adaware and spybot S&d would also be a good idea.
  9. The effort is nice, but this info is plastered in so many places its hard not to find, even for the newbies. :?
  10. Even the slightest bit of looking at the GIMP website would show you a link to the windows page. Sometimes I think people are blind.
  11. Do you by chance have Norton GoBack installed? It had issues with my dad's machine (just like everything else Norton related did :? ) and caused slow shutdowns. Don't hurt me for asking Norton lovers. :P Virus and spyware scans done to check the simple stuff? This utility service from MS might also be helpful. It's been posted in various tech forums to be helpful but I have not used it personally.
  12. Another note, if your ISP is actively blocking services to charge you extra for them, it's time to find a new provider. Just about any modern DSL or Cable line is fast enough to handle live and is no different than you downloading something over that same line. Providers charging based on how you use your line suck.
  13. What kind of connection do you use? Browser/program to download the file? Does it do this in multiple browsers (if you have them)? Is it a single file doing this, or many different files in different places? Getting slightly tired of constantly having to ask for relevant info like this. :wall:
  14. Exactly what I'm saying. It may be punishable to talk about in school, but it still goes on. Stopping talk about it does't change the fact kids still go out and get smashed each and every weekend. Even people that get MIP'ed at a busted party aren't deterred because everyone knows it disappears when you turn 18. I guess the base of what I'm saying is everything that's currently done, doesn't really do anything to stop the problem. It puts a curtain over it. "Look! See! We told them not to talk about it! They won't go and get smashed this weekend!" Wrong. I know plenty of people that were 'model students' in high school in the eyes of the staff. Those same people would get so drunk each weekend they couldn't stand up. Stopping talk about it doesn't do anything.
  15. Much of the 'debunked facts' on that page are only used by fanboys that are just mindlessly promoting the browser. Many of the counter points on the page can also be applied to other browsers or are just plain wrong (the security advisory count is an example). Anyone with any sense of history concerning Microsoft knows the mountain of flaws IE has had over the years (this includes IE7, which has had to be patched for holes also found in IE6 after its release). FireFox is popular because it gained traction as an alternative to the steaming pile that is IE6. Yes IE7 improved, but it still has it's problems. In the end, it's a matter of personal choice. Asking the rest of us to convince you to use it is a waste of our time. Try it, if you like it, cool, use it. If you don't like it, there's that shiny little uninstall button in the control panel. Rather cool concept isn't it? :uhh:
  16. If you're that hell bent on multitasking so much, I think it's time you invest in a second screen if your laptop has a output for it. There is no way I know of to shrink the java applet without actually modifying RS itself (which you can't do without taking Jagex hostage). I think you'll some how survive not being able to do both at the same time. :?
  17. People also don't expect their kids to learn about sex, drugs and alchohol in a school either, but they do, a lot more than more parents will let themselves believe. Keeping it out of a game is stopping little pixels while the things they encounter with people from their own school can and does go well beyond just talk. If these things are such issues, effort should be put into the schools and real places it can have an effect, not a game. I don't want to sound hostile or anything but all this effort in the 'cyber world' to stop these problems does nothing to stop the true issues, it just shifts them.
  18. Did you follow the instructions that came with the Xbox or did you just plug it in and try to go? This KB page may be helpful. This list of help pages may also be useful.
  19. I always remove previous versions. They aren't needed in any way.
  20. Much like this thread. The search button is your best friend.
  21. Except for the huge amout of disc space all those versions and updates will be taking up. Edit for spelling
  22. This has nothing to do with the iPod... ------------------ Your mp3's in iTunes are most likely in AAC format. MovieMaker doesn't support AAC so you'll have to convert the music file to an mp3 or wave so MovieMaker can read it.
  23. Being 'sheltered' doesn't exempt you from the facts of life in the real world. And why exempt 'beers and stuff'? It's alcohol too, regardless of how you look at it.
  24. I think you missed the 'Yes they are.' (refering to the banning of other formats) in Albosky's reply. Try sending yourself a PM with a TIFF or TGA in it, you'll get your original BB code. As for the one word change (which you should have at least marked as an edit in your original instead of changing it outright) won't do a damn thing. Telling people to 'avoid' them (if they even bothered to read the rules) still means the tech illiterate among us can still post them, which will leave huge images all over the place no matter how much you claim that one word will help. We're all better off the way it is now.
  25. They are also not Tip.It. If they all started pushing RS cheats would you suggest that to Tip.It too? You need to think about how it effects this board and the users here, not how it already works on others.
