  1. If people would read the thread, we wouldn't have these problems. An example of this idiocy is the thread in T&C bringing up that XP will eventually be discontinued. The OP was misinformed and thought it would be killed off completely next year, which was incorrect. This was cleared up on page 2 and the thread was beginning to fall into obscurity when someone comes along, doesn't bother reading the whole thread and starts the whole misinformed "OMG TATS NT COOL" cycle all over again. Read the damn thread, or at least skim it for addition information. It'll more than likely save you from looking like an echo and an idiot.
  2. Even simple web hosting could be classified as an 'enterprise purpose'. Most home ISPs don't like people hosting servers on their networks simply because of the security hazards it can cause. Either way, s/he won't be getting a static IP address out of RoadRunner without upgrading to a commercial line.
  3. Most home based ISPs do not allow servers to be run and will not lend a helping hand if you are running one. Many will proactivly shut you off for doing so too. Scimming RoadRunners AUP makes it sound like that's the case too, though it says nothing about getting shut off for it like mine does. To get a static IP, you will have to upgrade to their commercial packages. Untill then, you're SOL.
  4. I can write documentation that says Windows98 is a fortress and no hacker on the planet can compromise it too. Doesn't make it true.
  5. There may be some new wireless interference in the area that's causing problems. Trying changing the channel your wireless is using in your routers configuration. It may just be someone close by using the same channel and causing problems.
  6. Or, you could just use the tools provided by MySQL themselves.
  7. Does RS load in Internet Explorer? Is it just FireFox that won't load RS and these videos? We need more info than just a "it doesn't work in xxxxxx".
  8. You can find them at Walmart and other stores for a couple dollars less than that. BestBuy is generally a rip off. An example being ethernet cables - 25ft cable - $22.99 at Bestbuy, or $9 after shipping off Newegg. Even for $6-10, it's better than not dusting it out and being stuck with a hot, unstable or unusable machine that could cost you much more for a hardware failure. :P
  9. Get some compressed air (compressed air tank, can bought from Walmart, ect.) and blow out any dust threw the fan vents. You can blow it out in both direction (intake and exhaust) and it should clean it out fairly well. If blowing the dust out and setting it on a hard, flat surface doesn't help cooling, you may have some fan problems and should get it looked at by a shop.
  10. 1) That then leaves the donor computer unusable. 2) You will more than likely run into issues without running a repair because Windows configures some parts of itself to deal with specific hardware on the machine. :?
  11. Erm, what is the point in this? A questionnaire is nothing more than a poll with multiple answers and would be abused just like the poll options were when they were publicly available. The poll system in phpbb is already flexible enough for research, multiple answers and the like, its just been turned off for normal users because of abuse. A bit more explanation on the use of these 'questionnaires' beyond what the current poll systems currently do would be helpful.
  12. It may be your lack of punctuation and coherent sentences. Please find the period key and learn to use it. :wall: It's more than likely an ISP problem causing the drops. Call them, ask if they've had any issues. If they havn't, you may want to try testing your modem/router to see if it's going bad.
  13. Invision Free is free because of the ads. You won't be able to remove them unless you pay them for the hosting.
  14. Shorter index > personal demands Personally, I think Tip.It should just scrap the default index and go with something like Ubuntu's community forum index. Much more compact and you can read ALL the forum titles without scrolling (or scrolling very far).
  15. Just slap 'Dedicated Forum Troll' on anyone over 7k. It'll fit the group nicely.
  16. As Merc said, installing WAMP on your local machine is good for learning and testing with. All you have to do is save to the www folder and point your broswer at 127.0.0.1 (localhost) and you're up and running. DreamWeaver is a bit bloated for just hand coding things. Using something like EditPlus or Notepad++ (what I personally use) would be a bit easier because it doesn't include the whole WYSIWYG suite. As for PHP help, php.net's documentation is a good place to start out. Picking up a book might be helpful, but already knowing VB and a bit of C++ means picking up PHP shouldn't be all that hard.
  17. Nope. It's a good idea to leave it on just for that extra protection (unless it's causing problems) but it shouldn't matter if you have all the machines protected on their own.
  18. 1) This is why you don't trust random people with your items 2) It is not the admins job to protect you from your own stupid desicions 3) You will have no proof that the person has scammed you. Screenshots can be faked. Forum accounts can have different usernames.
  19. It updates when you tell it to. If you set it to pulse every 24 hours, that's what it does. If you set it to pulse every 50,000 keys, it'll do that instead. There is no set limit. To update your website stats you need to send a 'pulse'. Right click the WhatPulse icon in your system tray (the big W), and click 'Pulse!'. That will send your current keys and click to the server, updating your stats page. It should update almost immediately if the pulse was successful. You should also look into the 'Pulse Every' box in the program settings so WhatPulse automatically updates your website profile at certain intervals.
  20. No. 1) Because the shortcuts are nothing more than a faster way of opening your browser and that URL 2) You'll most likely be banned from the computer for messing with the router you apparently weren't suppose to touch.
  21. Winamp along with a couple other media players have had the ability to rip songs back of the iPod for quite a while now. I only mention Winamp because that's all I use but I'm sure you can find others with the same functionality. (This is assuming you use Windows, since you didn't specify)
  22. Huh? :-s If you're somehow asking about me having to wait to get to the laptop again, I had to get back over to my dad's house today to use it. I posted on the 16th from my mom's house. :P
  23. It will be a hard drive or USB drive. CheckDisk doesn't run on CD/DVD drives.
  24. Following up on the last post: Test File: 1.19mb .zip file - made up of 6 text files totaling 3.81mb XP Decompression tool - 4 seconds WinRar on XP - 1 second Vista Decompression tool - 28 seconds :-k WinRar on Vista - ~1 second Rather large step backwards from XP's built in zip tools. :uhh:
