  1. 1) It's a beta release 2) There are already a number of reports of Denial-of-service and remote code execution (read 'own your box') holes on top of all kinds of crash reports from various places because of different things not working correctly. 3) It's a beta release
  2. Defiantly could use a RAM upgrade. That would be the most probable reason for RS running slowly. That machine will be rather old too, so there isn't much you'll be able to do to boost performance beyond adding more RAM.
  3. Go to Start > Control Panel > System (On the slow, problem system, not your mom's :P ) Take a screenshot of that window and post it or tell us what the window says. This will tell us the basic hardware you have and will help decide if it's just a slow computer or not.
  4. "Claims" you can't. You need to smack your friend unless he has physical proof that RS doesn't work. :P
  5. That image is not readable. Upload it without resizing and just post a link to the image, not the image itself.
  6. Yes integrated graphics suck, but saying you can't game at all is just plain wrong. Saying it'll eat 70% CPU usage is also nothing more than a number pulled out of thin air. There are plenty of low end games that run very well on integrated chips that will give plenty of people enjoyment. Gaming is not limited to the world of high end graphics.
  7. This isn't true. You can have bad modules on a stick of ram or bad sectors in a module while having a working stick. It's when you hit those bad modules or sectors that causes problems (corruption/restarts). A RAM upgrade would definatly be a good idea, even though it won't fix your restart issues. 256mb is rather low and an upgrade to at least 512mb or 1gb would be a good idea. First off, go to Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced Tab > Under startup and recovery, click "Settings". In the window that appears, make sure "Automatically Restart" is not checked. This will force the machine to display a blue screen and an error code if something causes windows to crash. Next time the machine restarts on you, write down (or take a picture of) what the screen says. It'll help us hunt down what is wrong. Second, try running your virus scans in safe mode to prevent anything bad from loading while you're scanning. Before the windows loading screen appears, press and hold F8 and select one of the Safe Mode options (doesn't matter which). Log into the admin account and run your scans there.
  8. It matters quite a bit, as discussion of piracy is not allowed here along with the fact you can get rather hefty fines for copyright infringement (as hated as it may be).
  9. It'll work according to your screenshots. Even at $52, it will make a rather nice upgrade over what you currently have installed once you get some more RAM.
  10. As the others said, more RAM is a must and the stick you found on NewEgg would be a good choice. WoW's minimum video requirement is a 32mb 3D card. Recommended is 64mb. Both are quite low. Defiantly wouldn't hurt to buy a cheap 128mb video card or better if you have the funds though.
  11. mchainmail and snipersas: What detail level did you use when checking? :-k Should probably mention my numbers above are from high detail.
  12. Adding to what ROBOSRUS said, Elements is a watered down version specifically targeted at quick photo retouching such as removing red-eye and other easy photo tweaking. It's also bundled with a lot of the more expensive cameras. Unless you plan on seriously getting into photo or graphics work, buying either of them isn't worth the money.
  13. That explains that then.
  14. It may very well be that RS just needs that much CPU power to run on your machine. Off loading it on to the GPU isn't an option without Jagex coding that into the game, which is very unlikely due to their play anywhere stance and a lot of computers not having a decent GPU. If the machine is spyware/virus free and not having any other issues, you may just have to live with it until you get a faster computer or someone finds a really off the wall solution for it. Just for comparison, RS idles at 65% usage (top, visible window) at the login screen and runs between 75% and 85% while actually playing on my 2ghz Sempron 3300 laptop. Being a Pentium M, it may be adjusting it's clock speed on the fly to conserve power, causing the usage to go up a bit. Just a thought.
  15. How is this topic breaking the rules? :-s It's discussing a problem, not advertising it. :?
  16. Would be a good idea to update that. Java 6 Update 1 is the latest version, so you're rather far behind on updates.
  17. The URL is being censored by Tip.It. It was more than likely added because it was used to try and exploit people, or it breaks Tip.It and/or RuneScape rules.
  18. http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=478642 The Rules and Announcements forum description says "Make sure you read everything here!" for a reason. :wall: Edit: Looking around the slightest bit would have also shown you the same post sticked at the top of this forum...
  19. That should last well past 3 years when it comes to just doing school work if you take good care of it. Even if it can't run future games a couple years from now, you'll still be able to play current gen stuff and have more than enough horsepower to do whatever school throws at you.
  20. Adding to what Collective said, many hosts explicitly forbid anything IRC related on their servers due to the threat of DDOS attacks and such that can happen. They'd rather not host it than deal with an attack that takes down their services (which is very understandable). Along with sh3lls.net, there is also acmeshells.com and tekneeks.net.
  21. You can log into the forum using the old login page. They currently link to it from the message center login but not the forums for some reason. Just takes a little URL tweaking to get to it tho. I suggest you bookmark the above link until they either add the link to the login page, or the new login applet start working for you. Edit: Looking at the page again, the old login method is linked from the login page. If you do not see a line that says "If you only see a large grey or white box below, click here." above the new login box, try hitting F5 to force a complete reload of the page. Hopefully it will show up again.
  22. That is exactly how I would have it done. It's only one line of html to be added to all of the templates and would help out quite a bit since we seem to get quite a few topics like this one. It would also make it very clear to those that don't know they can report the bad adds that they can do something about them.
  23. No there isn't. You are always limited by either a bandwidth cap, a capped transfer rate, or both. Even if they advertised 'unlimited', you are still very limited by the capped speed of the line and there is most likely a hidden cap in the terms of service that they can point to when they decide you're using too much.
  24. Many home ISPs don't allow servers to be run on the connections. They'll make you upgrade to a business plan. If he doesn't know how/where to buy a domain name, he most likely doesn't have a spare computer laying around and won't know how to setup and use linux as said server.
  25. Hasn't been down for more than a day (due to hardware failure at the ISP) since it was set up. It's more than likely a firewall blocking the ports used by IRC. If you are on a home connection, make sure traffic on port 6667 is not being blocked. If you are trying to connect from a school or work computer, there isn't much that can be done about it.
