  1. Those 'tracking bugs' are nothing more than cookies set by the website and are harmless. Getting bent out of shape and canceling your $5 membership is a waste of time when there's companies that do far, FAR more tracking than just a couple simple cookies for bettering the game. Have you blocked cookies from Google, DoubleClick, BurstNet and just about every other modern website out there? :? If not, you complaining about Jagex using cookies to track a bit of data is worthless.
  2. I'm sure you read that before replying instead of just throwing out a generic reply to lag issues. Have you tried deleting the .file_store_32 and .jagex_cache_32 folders in C:\Windows to force a complete reload of the game? Doing that sometimes helps clean out junk that could be causing problems. Have you tried different servers in various locations around the world?
  3. Thanks for that, now nobody has a clue what the other replys in the thread are for... :wall:
  4. If it isn't found to be an extention issue (which it very well could be), adding 'config.trim_on_minimize' (boolean type) to about:config and setting it's to 'true' will make FireFox dump it's RAM on minimize. It's just a bandaid solution as RAM usage will start climbing again once you restore the window but it does help clean up the memory leak issues if you minimize it every so often. It's better than having to restart it and having to reopen tabs.
  5. Staff are aware of it. Albosky has been PM'ed here by who knows how many people making him aware of it along with the rest of the staff knowing. It'll get fixed once somebody manages to poke Albosky into getting online. Things still seem to be working for the most part, just a few minor annoyances happening in the background (post count, the errors, ect).
  6. How do you 2 think the "Who's online?" at the bottom of the index works. :P It stores when you hit the forums and updates with each page view you make and drops the entry after a few minutes of inactivity. It isn't bad on the index because it's only in one place and a general 'is so-and-so somewhere on the forums'. Adding that to each and every thread would be a massive waste of resources (as rick pointed out). Edit: The phpbb errors have been happening for several hours now. Don't know if Albosky has been notified about it yet. I know at least one of the mods knew about it on IRC earlier.
  7. Tip: If you're running FF 2.0 or later, disable your normal 'backspace' functionality. It should clear up the dumb kick-outs. If that is the case, it's caused by the banner ad refreshing above the game area, which changes the focus back to the browser instead of the game applet, which would then cause the go-back action if you backspace a typo. There's no option in the general settings for it, gotta change browser.backspace_action to 1 in about:config to turn it off. All a waste of time if this is happening on a members server though because there's no ad to steal focus. We need more info than just "It refreshes itself". We're just shooting in the dark otherwise, just like DV's reply and my added info to it. If you aren't running firefox, that advise is useless.
  8. i concur, although i also like notepad++ ... tough choice. Add a +1 for notepad++. What I use for all my HTML and PHP. Slightly offtopic, but WTF is up with all the rick signature/avatar clones? :-s
  9. Way to jump to conclusions. Dell machines come bundled with customized error pages, home pages and so on. It's what they do. A virus scan and firewall are always a good idea, but assuming he has a virus because Dell of all people customized the error is just straight up wrong.
  10. Alt+0177 = ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâñ Also, your OS of choice should have some kind of character map app you can look at to find various symbols. In XP its in Accessories > System Tools > Character Map.
  11. Easier said than done. Someone that doesn't know what their doing could very easily fry their machine if they tried swapping CPUs between them.
  12. If you had a fan full of dust it could be an overheating issue of some kind. Dust buildup in other fans could be limiting air flow and clogging up the heat sync on top of your processor. Take a can of compressed air (store bought or just an air compressor) and thoroughly dust out the case and all fans/heat syncs. After that if you're still having issues it's time to start checking drivers (make sure they're all up to date or roll back any recently updated ones that could cause issues) and after that point start checking hardware (RAM specifically) for failures.
  13. 1st he must retrieve and parse HTML from runescape website to get just required info like exp, skill levels & etc... 2nd he need learn GLib - is graphical library for php to code all sig creation... Which is exactly what I said. You use PHP (or whatever language you want) to scrape the highscores (download, parse, format into usable information, store for later use), and use to create the images (GD, ImageMagick, ect). Why repeat what I already said? You don't really need a template system. Most sites use the exact same text layout for each signature type and just change the background that's inserted behind it (different character, color, RS location, ect). That means you can just set the text locations to a static number and make the background variable depending on the setting. Lots easier than building some huge templating system. Believing 'serious programers' don't do things like dynamic signatures is just plain wrong too. Coding something simple doesn't automatically make you some kind of lame programer. I specifically didn't list exactly what was needed because the question was extremely broad. He didn't specify if he knows any specific language (if at all) or how indepth he wanted to go with the explanations. Asking someone "How do I use scissors?" generally doesn't involve explaining the physics behind moving them and how the blades interact with what's being cut unless they specifically ask for it. :P
  14. Most sites use php to scrape the highscores off runescape.com, store them in a database and then use php again to create the image with the stats. It isn't too hard to do if you know a bit of php and the concepts behind it. (No I don't have code to give you)
  15. This is rather useless because a majority of the items voted on don't have any effect on F2P in the first place. If you're P2P you can vote in the polls that concern you. When they run a poll concerning F2p content, they run it as such, allowing everyone to vote. Rather useless in my eyes. Mentioning the 'so you don't have to pay $5' just makes it sound like you want to vote just to be voting on something, not because you want to have a say in the content.
  16. Looks like the issue caused by the recent 'stealth update' that MS rolled out to the update systems (which is a just plain stupid thing to do because it breaks crap). Good timing too, since this article hit slashdot just today, explaining that breakage. This MS kbase page should be helpful too, though I haven't tested it on my system with the same issues yet.
  17. The clan chat isn't liked by many IRC users because it's simply a cheap copy that wasn't implemented very well. It's doubling up a system (the irc server) that has already been in place for quite some time now. There's no way for multiple people to control a room, there's no way to permanently ban people from a room effectively because they're free to make as many new accounts as they want. The ban list is limited to the size of the ignore list. It's ultimately controlled by Jagex which means 0 flexibility. There's no flood controls to automatically deal with spamming idiots. You can go on and on. On top of all that the clan chat room you are arguing for was never really discussed before being set up, which resulted in what you see. It was thrown together the day of release leaving huge unknowns, like who will mod it, how do we control it, what timezones are covered ect. Many of the staff here don't even play RS anymore, which makes it that much harder to mod a chat that requires you log into RS. It's a massive waste of time to keep the game active just to keep an eye on a few kids that think it's an awesome system. Instead of telling IRC staff that they're backstabbing people because they've made an informed decision, how about you actually come use the IRC room and its features compared to the clan chat before you go telling us we're flat our wrong to be voicing an opinion. Accusing us of 'still clinging to that kick button in another chat' is still more wasted text. The IRC server is THE official chat of Tip.It, so there's good reason to be clinging to that button.
  18. Test each stick separately, on it's own, without any other RAM in the machine. You've got the right idea, just seems you haven't narrowed it down far enough. If both sticks boot fine with just the single stick installed, you may need to look into how the slots are paired for dual channel ect. I know my board won't boot if I have my matched 512 sticks in slots 1 & 3 instead of 1 & 2. Being a Dell it might be hard to figure out but it's worth checking.\ If both sticks boot and you figure out which slots to use to get them both installed I'd also run Memtest86 (free download page, burn the ISO to a cd) for a while to see if they create any memory errors that could cause problems later down the road.
  19. I wouldn't be too worried about it for the small amount of space you're getting. 1gb of disc and 10gb of transfer is extremely small compared to what some companies sell for just a few dollars now. I'd be willing to give it a shot if that's all the space I need. If it isn't as stable as you'd like you're still only out ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã9.96 if you do a year upfront. Better than eating $60+ for a larger plan that turns out to be unstable.
  20. You could also use a TV Tuner card to run your inputs through, such as this one. Yeah it isn't in HD but you aren't going to get that out of a computer monitor anyway unless you recently bought one. You get the added benefit of another TV too. :P
  21. This thread (although a few months old) already contains some good discussion on the matter. Would probably be a good idea to read through it and reply so things stay in one place.
  22. You seem to be confused. This is office 132a, home of Tip.It. Jagex is in office 302c. Through this door and up the stairs.
  23. It isn't a matter of Albosky not being able to do it (due to knowlege or MODs). It's just a flat out waste of time and server resources. Running through all 2.6m posts (plus PMs) and replacing tags so they work with the changes would take a ton of server resources and just isn't worth the time and headaches it would cause.
  24. Just remove the damn count entirely already. Problem solved.
  25. There is currently no way for the public to track online status in RS from outside the game itself. If there was, I'd have used it for various things already. Actually getting something like that done would involve more work for Jagex than us because they would have to integrate it into the friends/login system, while all we'd have to do is rip a page with the online/offline text on it. I seriously doubt its on their list of important things to do even if it was suggested because of all the other crap they refuse to fix or waste time implementing.
