In my opinion, the 5% was necessary. First, it is definately going to stop a lot of price manipulation. Some people in the past would make several threads with different titles, as to fool the public into thinking he was many different people, and either buy at ridiculously low prices or sell high. This was just one way people scammed, or fooled others into thinking a price had dramatically changed. It was not what I'd calling "merchanting" either; these people were taking advantage of people and using scams(which merchants don't) to manipulate an item(s). Second, this limit will prevent something that may have been even more serious. Imagine several rich players get together and buy off all the santas, let's say, at low prices. Then, when they have a huge number of santas, and the buyers are desparate, they sell them all at once for huge prices. People would be forced to buy them; the rich get richer through scamming, and the poor lose millions of gp when santas start crashing. Also, please respond to my statement earlier, thanks. :)

How do you know that jagex intended for this update to ruin merchants? I don't remember them announcing this, although you can correct me if I'm wrong. Other than that, very good, detailed read. I love your articles qeltar and always try to them all the way through. :)

I can confirm that bank PINs were purely player suggestion. I visited the popular thread many times in the past before the update was actually put into the game. In my opinion, the bank PIN remains one of the best updates in history. :) I'd just like to comment on this also; I see so many players nowdays acuse jagex of not listening to player-made suggestions, when really a large portion of updates come strait from player's heads(maybe with a few tweaks ;) ). Interesting topic. :)

If jagex haven't accepted rares as a vital part of the economy, then I don't know what they've been thinking the past 5 years or so. If they've got half a brain they would know such a thing would cause riots ridiculously huge. :P Tens of thousands of people currently hold rares, if you suddenly drop the price to worthless with one udpdate I think jagex will end up losing pounds in the thousands, possibly ten thousands. :o

That was an awesome trip! :) I lost full rune but almost made up for it with three scim pks and a full helm. :)

Even if they do change their mind, I don't think RC will be that big of a threat. :wink: Our huge opts will absolutely slaughter them if we ever meet a batch of orange capers. :)
