  1. Cast on any monster that can't reach you. The idea with Curse training is that you will always get the full 29 mage exp for the cast. It doesn't matter if you fail or not. It's always 29. So wear full armor of any metal type. That's Full helm, plate, legs, and shield. You will have -65 for your magic attack stat. It you want to save on runes then get an elemental staff (Water or Earth) and also wear some green dragonhide vambraces. Now you can go almost anywhere and cast away. I prefer the multicombat areas so that I will (almost) always have a target. I like casting from the key room in the Varrock Sewers across the waters at the 4 zombies in the ladder room. It's a perfectly safe spot since no monsters spawn there and the zombies can't reach you. There are plenty of other places: Port Sarim jail, caged lesser, red monk under the stairs, ducks, white knights behind the screen, etc. The trick is that as long as you fail when you cast (-65 magic attack) then you can keep on casting on the same monster and get 29 mage exp each time. Hope this helps
  2. I suggest any multi-combat place. You could do the white knights in the screen/torture room on the second floor of their castle in Fally. White knights won't first attack you, (the black knights usually do) Just cast through the screen at the knights. It's also close to the Fally west bank. You could also cast from the key room in the Varrock sewers across the water at the 4 zombies in the ladder room. Perfectly safe and no monsters (other than random events) spawn in your casting spot. The advantage of using Firestrike is that you can auto-cast it. The disadvantage is that Curse earns you more mage exp for the same price. You will earn about 18 mage exp for fire strike vs always 29 for Curse. Hope this helps.
  3. Not true If there is a wall, tree, etc to the west of your burn spot then you move in another direction instead. If there is nothing to the west then, yes, you will move west.
  4. IIRC, Body and Earth/Water runes are around 10-20 gp each in the Port Sarim and Varrock magic shops. But you might be able to get better deals in the magic marget forum If you make your own runes then make Body and Earth. Then buy a Water staff and wear green vambraces when you cast. Otherwise you might hit and then have to switch targets. (You could try the caged red monk under the Varrock Palace stairs) When you make your Body runes be sure to use the shortcut on the west side of the Barbarian village. Hope this helps
  5. Fire Strike averages about 18 mage exp per cast but Curse always gives 29 mage exp per cast... Also, the Body altar is closer to a bank then the Mind altar is. I_Am_Me1 advice was very good. You could try casting from the key room in the Varrock sewers across the water into the 4 zombie ladder room. Hope this helps
  6. Are you training for loot or for exp? If loot, then do Lessers, Ice giants, and Moss giants. If exp, then kill monsters much lower than yourself that respawn quickly. You earn exp for each hit that you do and not for the level of the monster that you kill, so you may as well make it easy for yourself and go kill Pirates in the front part of the blurite cave. Other monsters would work well also or course, but the Pirates are nice because there are about 9 that spawn in a small area. I normally don't even need any food when I train there. You could also monsters in the Varrock sewers, Edgeville dungeon, Draynor sewers, Hobgoblins, etc. Hope this helps
  7. I have level 75 crafting in F2P and I can craft everything that a F2Per can make, and, IMHO, crafting in F2P is a money losing occupation. "Money losing" in that it will take a very long time to earn back the money that you will spend raising it. You could try Clay bowls. Everything that you need is in the crafting guild so there's not much walking or buying required. Clay bowls give 33 exp. Hard leather gives 35, Tiaras give 52.5 General store. A player only needs 1 tiara for each altar so there's not much of a market. (I have about 15000 tiaras sitting in the bank lol ) Check the "Crafting" market forum. Even then, I don't think that you will get enough gems fast enough. Your best choice is to probably do silver if you have a lot cash, or leather if you have less, or clay bowls if you have very little. Hope this helps
  8. F2P gems stores don't normally carry any gems in stock. They only have whatever players sell to them.
  9. Well, any monster that you Curse will try to attack you. But the idea is to fail when you start Cursing. You will always get the full 29 mage exp for each cast no matter what. Failing a Curse lets you cast again on the same monster. You fail by wearing a full set of any metal armor, (Helm, chest, legs, and shield), that has a magic attack bonus of -65. If you include green dragonhide (or better) vambraces then you can also use an elemental staff.
  10. Almost anywhere will work. I suggest a multicombat location so that you will always have a target. You could cast from the key room in the Varrock sewers, or the white knight screen room, or the caged lesser in the wizzy tower. Lots of places will work. Hmmm, I'm thinking around 30 minutes. That would be 1.8 seconds per cast. You can click faster then the Curse animation so you can't get too far ahead in clicking on your targets. You can always test it yourself easy enough.
  11. In case you didn't know, the "Rare Tree" symbol on the official Jagex world map shows the locations of all 23 F2P yew trees.
  12. Hobgoblins drop a lot of Limpwurt roots. You can try the edgeville dungeon, west of the crafting guild, and in the front part of the Blurite cave.
  13. No, it's not the same at all. You were writing about the fact that none of the Guides mention using store bought logs for profit and then concluded that since they didn't, it must be a bad idea. My point is that there are sometimes better ways to do things than what everyone else is doing. You just sometimes have to fully consider how to exploit the situation. Just because you can't see a way to make it work doesn't mean that someone else won't figure out a way to make it work. For example, how many players regularly use Death as a free teleport to lumby? Jagex makes changes to the game and the guides don't always reflect these new options. Hence, new approaches to old ideas are needed to fully exploit new game features. Also, many guides are incomplete in many ways. For example, how many Ranging guides talk about Curse spell pulling? Or about wearing full Bronze when leveling magic? Or about how to estimate arrow usage when picking up your arrows? Sometimes a player has to stop reading guides and start thinking about how to best play the game. Glory ammy teleport doesn't need any of that. Hence your profit per trip is about 486 gp So, buying from a store might work best for P2P players. F2P players would have to time the "respawn in lumby, buy in store, run to draynor bank, die, then repeat" method and then compare it to their woodcutting time. For lower woodcutting level F2P players, the store method might still be faster. A F2P player with level 1 woodcutting skill could start making money immediately using the store method. He wouldn't even need to get level 30 woodcutting or buy a rune axe. He could start making money right away...
  14. Sigh, looks like you're not serious about having an intelligent discussion... So, where do new ideas come from? From someone that considers a different approach to something. Careful, with an attitude like that the mods may lock this thread. What's the alternate method of getting eyes of Newt in large quantities? The discussion here basically "chop or buy?" There are a few new things that are available you know. Which is exactly why buying them at a price of only 12 gp will let you make a big profit. Well, how about this method: Get killed and spawn in Lumby. Buy at nearby general store. Tele to city of your choice. Do your banking. Repeat. Or, how about using the Culinaromancer's Chest in the Lumby basement as your bank? Also, using your servant in your house in Rimmington could help with bank runs as well. Yes, which is why buying at 12 gp makes a nice profit. I wouldn't pay that much, but as long as someone else will, you are in good shape. The issue here is really is it faster to chop and bank or buy and bank. Jagex has recently released a new skill, new bank location, new servants, and new teleport options. The merchanting guides don't take these new things into account. It's up to us players to figure out how to use them to our advantage. I think that a timing test for the death-respawn method and the basement-bank method would be a very useful thing to do...
  15. Look at these pictures The Helm, chest, legs, and shield gives you -65 Add the vambraces and the staff and you still get -65 (all pictures by DroolMAN) Hope this helps
  16. rune instead of addy No It makes no difference at all what metal you wear. You just have to wear a full metal outfit. Did you forget a shield? Full metal without vambraces will get you to -65 Green dragonhide vambraces with an elemental staff will also get you to -65 Hope this helps
  17. I you average half of the max possible hit for each arrow type at each level and if you pick up 75% of your arrows then Bronze arrows: 4837 Iron: 4747 Steel: 4256 Mith: 4053 Addy: 3631 Rune: 3014 Hope this helps
  18. I have found that if I have a "slow" rock, then almost anything that I do to "change the situation" can usually help. So, if a monster event caused your mining to be interupted and reset the RNG, then I suppose it could help. I guess that only Jagex knows for sure...
  19. The issue is not if it can ever happen, (clearly it can) but rather does it ever happen all the time. I can 1 hit iron 95% of the time but coal is never like that.
  20. Well, you can't at level 85 mining. The best way that I have found to speed up mining is to give yourself 3 hits or so and then walk away and come back. AFAIK, this "resets" the random number generator and gives you another chance to get it quickly since you are no longer mining on the same "low probability" rock. Hope this helps.
  21. Two points... Point 1 is that merchanting Willows may not be the best way for you to raise money since anyone looking to buy Willows can do it very cheaply using the Rimmington and Lumbridge general stores. Hence, you may not get many buyers at your suggested price. I wouldn't buy at your price. I would just go to those stores and get them there. Now, any player that is in a big rush to bank a large quantity of Willows might pay your price, but many cost aware players might prefer getting them at less than half of your price. If a player wanted to raise firestarting, then he could buy and burn right by the store, no banking required. Point 2 is that if you do find enough buyers at your 30 gp price then you may be able to make money more quickly by simply buying them at those stores (instead of cutting them) and banking them yourself. If you are F2P then you would have to walk, but if P2P then you have a few other ways to reach a bank. Hope this helps.
  22. There are usually hundreds (sometimes thousands) of Willow logs available in the Rimmington and Lumbridge general stores for 12 gp each...
  23. I earned 1 million in Ranging exp, (and a bunch of Rune meds), by using Bronze arrows against Lessers... Btw, why insult me with the rolling eyes? Do you think that's gonna encourage more players to attempt to offer you useful advice? I always hi-alched any goods drops as soon as I got them. That way you can stay there longer. It depends on what you are willing to spend. But, Curse is very cost effective for F2Pers. I hope that you find this helpful
  24. A few things to consider... Skills all have different amounts of max exp per hour. Cooking is, perhaps, the best example of high exp per hour. Until recently, and maybe still, Prayer was about the slowest exp per hour. So, the power skillers are probably doing the high exp per hour skills. Some skills can be bought. If you have a lot of cash then you can buy your way to 99 in construction, smithing, cooking, etc. But you can't buy 99 mining for example. You must do all that mining yourself. Bank runners can sometimes help. Runecrafting is probably the best example of that. Otherwise, runners usually just make the skill more profitable. To raise your overall skill total you really have to know the skill well. For example, since you earn melee exp according to the hit that you do on the monster, should you train on monsters above your level, equal to your level, or lower than your level? How about mining. Should you mine clay, iron, or mith ore? Or fishing, should your catch shrimp, trout, or lobsters? In general, mid level activities are usually the most efficient in terms of exp per hour (iron, trout, willow, etc). But high level activities (Addy, swordfish, Yew) earn the best cash. Another example, since required exp doubles about every 7 levels, the most efficient conversion of exp to levels is done by training all of your skills and not just your favorite or easiest. In that sense, the #4 overall player is the most efficient player in the game. Hope this gives you a few ideas.
  25. If you want drops then you could try the Lessers on the top of Crandor Island. If you want the Big bones then try the Mossies on Crandor Island. Both places have safe spots on the North side. But where-ever you do go, cast a Curse spell first. That way the monster will walk over to you. Then start to shoot it. That way all of your arrows and loot will be in a single pile in front of you. If you do it this way you will pick up about 75% of your arrows and, hence, can use each one about 4 times before it's gone. I used to range kill hundreds of lessers and never needed any food. If you avoid getting hit then you can last a long, long time. Hope this helps.
