I take it you missed this very important point? And your tone is moronic. Just because you claim you don't real-world trade doesn't suddenly make all stakers clean. Nor do I really believe you.

20 November 2007 - Duel Arena Tournaments and Changes
kdb148 replied to Aneron's topic in General Discussion
Am I the only person who read the knowledge base article? It clearly says in there that you can run a 2 person tournament, and have entry fees of up to 1 million coins. So while the high-end stakes are no longer possible, it is still quite possible to run stakes with a significant cash prize, and win or lose mils an hour through staking. -
You can still stake up to a mil per person in a tournament, and you have the ability to run a 2 person tournament, with a max stake of a million coins. Not too shabby. So in essence, what they've really done is limited the amount of stakes to 1 mil, and made it so that you can't stake against less experienced stakers. I think that should satisfy most people who like to stake for a decent cash prize. It just sucks right now because the tourny system isn't working properly.

It's pretty ridiculous to assume that this will have a big effect on the community at large. Every time Jagex changes something like this, most of the people affected simply find something else to do - sometimes, it's other in-game activities, and sometimes, it's another game. Stakers are not a big part of the game, and it looks good for Jagex to appear tough on rule breakers. From their point of view, losing some career stakers is nothing compared to making a much larger contingent of players grateful for more aggressive pursuit of rule breakers. As for the effect on prices, this will have no effect outside the rares market. Stakers don't buy anything other than a few weapons. Their money, in effect, has been removed from the economy already, in that it is only transferred among the high-end stakers. There's also the distinct possibility that high-end stakers are much more involved in real life trading than we realize. After all, if you are able to make mils a day by staking, you can turn that into a fairly good real-life income stream. After all, if you already have 5 bil in items, and you win, say, a blue partyhat, are you better off keeping it, or selling it for $1500, or whatever it is worth? It seems to me that players who focus solely on creating a ridiculous and ultimately useless amount of in-game wealth might be very tempted to begin real life trading. And if they really did find a loophole through the duel arena whereby Jagex was aware of their activities and yet unable to stop it because of an inability to get adequate proof, they absolutely had to shut it down. No, I'm not calling all high-end stakers real world traders. But I am sure that some of them were. I mean, if you are able to become so good at staking that you could reliably supplement your income with $500 or $1000 a week through winning stakes and selling your loot for real money, AND to do so in a way that is indetectable, then it is quite safe to assume that some people were doing that. And guess who starts pounding on Jagex' door when they catch wind of substantial income being earned by people through their game? Government tax agents, that's who.
-
Then why don't they BE HONEST and say that? Are they that afraid of their own players? I don't know, like I said, there's not much about this update that makes sense. I guess maybe they were fine with stakers getting rich until the duel arena became a conduit for real world trading. I don't think it's that they're afraid of their players as much as they want to make it publicly known that they're cracking down on rule breakers. I wouldn't be surprised if Jagex came out and told us that we should blame the rule breakers for the end to staking, not them.
-
I can only assume that Jagex never intended for the duel arena to be any more than a way for players to test their skills against each other, with the stake just being a little bonus for the winner, not a way for people to get rich. Why they would wait so long to fix it to their liking, I have no idea, but nothing about the change to staking seems to make much sense.

Wow, you must be really bad at this game. I can get 4m+ xp from 20k ice bursts.
-
Don't do gold bowls - you can't smith them more than 1 at a time, and you can't note them for alching. Use your gold bars for crafting.
-
The only problem with fires is that they are hard to sell. Being a crafter at fast free laws loses tons of money as well. You can make money at w16 after level 66 RC. And the price is now 1k, not 2k, since the price of airs has dropped drastically.

Banshees are way better than chaos druids for herbs, there will be less competition for them, and their other drops are excellent - they drop 13 noted pure essence pretty frequently, in addition to herbs. You need 15 slayer, wear dragonhides, and don't forget your earmuffs. For seeds, pickpocketing master farmers is a good option. Good monsters to kill for seeds are moss giants or dagannoth.
-
Strike spells against lesser or greater demons are your only hope to make money maging f2p. You could maybe do it killing hill giants for big bones, but that would be incredibly slow training with all the banking and competition for spawns, and probably not worth it. You could also use strike spells on dark wizards and sell the natures and chaos that they drop, but again, that would be very slow xp.

My Mining Goal 74/99
kdb148 replied to Spark_Fearow's topic in BlogScape (Ongoing Progress Reports and Goals)
So is this officially dead? Can the topic starter tell me how many essence he was able to get in an hour while mining? -
Right, but you're also getting smithing XP while superheating, in addition to the 53 mage xp you get per bar. It is an excellent method for getting mage and smithing XP as a free player, and even if you buy your ores and nats, you can easily break even making mith and addy bars. I can superheat 800 addy bars per hour, netting 42k mage XP and 30k smithing XP per hour, while breaking even. Whereas an hour of alching steel plates might get you 65k mage XP if you can do 1k alchs, but you will also lose 100k if you buy the plates 1kea. Total XP from superheating is 70k+ per hour, spread across 2 skills, and total money lost is 0. Better than alching in every way. From a pure monetary standpoint on the mage XP (ignoring the smithing XP), the 65k mage XP you get from an hour of alching will take you approximately an hour and a half to get through superheating, but the superheating will save you 100k. So if the smithing XP is irrelevant to you, you are better off alching only if you can make over 100k in a half hour.

The fastest banking is using dueling rings and the al-Kharid mine. Mine a full load, tele to castle wars, bank, tele to duel arena, run to mine, repeat. Alternately, you could try ardy east mine using ardy teles - mine a full load, tele to ardy, run to south bank, tele again, run up to mine, repeat. You might also be able to take advantage of teles for quick banking in the eastern Varrock mine, or the mine south of Taverly. Without using teles, though, it's definitely Port Khazard mine while banking in Yanille.

Lode's Steel Smithing Guide! With Pictures *4K+ VIEWS*
kdb148 replied to Lodewijk66's topic in General Guides
For much easier mousework during steel smelting, withdraw 10 iron and all coal. Smelt 10. When you get back to the bank, click on the left over iron ore to store it, store all steel bars, and then withdraw 10 iron and all coal, and repeat. It saves you having to go back and forth between your inv and the bank screen. It doesn't save a whole lot of time, but it does save your wrist. -
If you're just after xp, go with the spiders in lvl 3 of the stronghold of security. If you are interested in drops, try chaos dwarves.
-
Silver smelting appears to be giving me 13.7 XP per ore, not 13.5 as stated in your smithing guide.
-
Also, I think p ess is way less than 100ea now.

UNoffical Tip It Clan Chat! Join Channel: Lightning
kdb148 replied to Fudgy999's topic in General Discussion
What if you aren't saying or doing anything inappropriate, and yet still get kicked? There's no recourse here because we are forbidden from naming names, but chat mods are spamming the channel and then kicking people for pointing out their inconsistency. People are messing up the channel, and there's nothing we can do about it because they are chat mods. It is ridiculous. I've been kicked 3 times while not breaking a single rule. It's really getting annoying. The chat mods are totally abusing their position to kick people for no reason. Well, one in particular who is, anyways. -

But offensiveness should be judged by the chat as a whole, not a moderator. It's not a moderator's job to filter out what they personally find offensive, their job is to filter out stuff the community as a whole will find offensive. And if a moderator can't be impartial like that, then they shouldn't be moderating a chat. -

Can someone tell me why someone moderating the chat gets to make up rules regarding what we're allowed to talk about, and then kick people out for asking questions about it, when the topic being discussed is clearly NOT offensive, or in violation of any rules of Runescape? It seems like arbitrary decisions like this are going to ruin the clan chat. We were talking about alcohol. Nothing in any rules in this thread or on Runescape say this isn't allowed. -
I don't think hitting is going to be a particularly common thing for someone with 1 attack.
-
That's not a bad one, just kill the guard dogs around the mansion in Ardy.
-
That's just not true. Buying unstrung bows, stringing, and selling will make you money. Buying logs, making unstrungs, and stringing will make you more money. Both are very fast ways to level fletching.

Yep, that's what burthorping is. I personally find pyrefiends a bit lacking in the drops department, I would burthorpe this one.
