  1. Exploitation is very relative. Pay that seems low to people in developed countries might not be so low in a developing country like China. Especially if the choice the people working there have is between playing runescape for a little money or some food, or not having any money or food. Nobody is forcing people to work for gold farmers. In fact, you could argue that gold farmers are giving people work who otherwise might not be able to buy food.
  2. But they aren't doing it enough, or the autoers would be gone. And if they did do this, they would advertise such a campaign, but they haven't. They need to have more than a few Jmods with instant banning power, and they need to have several per world to clean out all the hotspots. If they are doing this, then they aren't doing it on a wide enough scale for it to have any real impact. If they did this 24 hours a day for a week, the autoers would disappear completely, and any stragglers could be caught by a much more modest team of moderators.
  3. Yeah :-) But how would you track it? same goes for other minigames. There is no way to track how proficient people are in the minigames. That's the thing, though. What about someone with full gold cwars armor? Even winning every single game you play, it takes a total time of almost 900 hours playing cwars to get that armor, and more realistically, closer to 2000 hours. Most 99s probably don't take nearly as much time to accomplish. Does the fact that someone spent 2000 hours racking up 10 or 20 million total xp more impressive than the guy who spent 2000 hours getting full gold cwars armor?
  4. Yep, Bandit Camp is the way to go. It's very convenient, you can basically stay in the wilderness forever if you like, just go back there to get more food when you need it.
  5. Banshees have one of the top 2 or 3 drop lists in the game :)
  6. This is a good topic. I hate it when people say "Oh, it's just pixels," or something to that effect. Because it isn't just pixels - expensive items require a lot of time and work to acquire. People don't feel like they lost something because they no longer have a santa hat to wear, or whatever it happens to be. The feel the loss because of how much it took for them to get something. A better real life example than the ones in the article would be the case of a kid saving up to buy an expensive baseball card. If you really want something like that as a kid, you have to spend hours delivering newpapers, shovelling driveways, mowing lawns, or some other task that kids normally do in the neighborhood for money. Then finally, you finally have enough to buy it, and you go into the store to reap the rewards of your time and effort. Then the next day, someone steals from you. You aren't mad because you lost something of value, but rather because all that time and effort was just wasted. It's the same if, say, someone DCs while wearing a santa and gets killed by a random - they might have worked weeks or even months to get that item - and now because of some intervening event, everything they worked for is gone. When you have to spend time and effort to acquire something, it is of much greater value to you than just its monetary value. It represents that time and effort, and there are few things more frustrating than when your hard work is all for nothing. To give another example, say your boss at work gives you a special assignment to work on. You read, reasearch, and write what you think is an excellent report. You stay up nights at home editing it, working on it to make it the best it can be. Then you hand it in to your boss, and he tells you, "Oh, sorry forgot to tell you, but we scrapped that project and don't need this report any more." You work has no monetary value, but you still want to wring your boss' neck and are incredibly frustrated because your hard work went to waste. That's what sucks about losing high-priced items or a lot of gold coins in Runescape. And why players often feel that they have a right to get it back - because the guy who happened to be standing there who picked it up didn't put in any time or effort. Because of this, it's worth a great deal more to the person who lost it. In other words, it's NOT only pixels, and players would do well to remember that and maybe be a little more understanding about how players feel when they lose those expensive items.

    Smithing

Bolts are the way to go, cballs are way too slow to be worth it.
  8. Are his smithing, mining , and ranged levels also from TOG? If so, what order did he get them in? And, can you get herblore esp from TOG if you haven't done druidic ritual? Or construction experience without buying a house?
  9. A bit northeast of Yanille is the best. 3 rocks right next to each other, and only a few clicks from the Yanille bank. You could also make use of dueling rings and make use of cwars bank and just tele back to the dueling arena. It's probably quicker than Yanille, but of course, you would need 9 or 10 dueling rings to mine 1k that way.
  10. I'm all but certain Jagex said nothing of the sort, and what they actually did say has been totally misinterpreted.
  11. It wouldn't happen. They're not going to create a metal dragon that doesn't drop bars 100% of the time, I don't think, and a rune dragon would make getting runite bars way too easy.
  12. He said he only used up 10% of his runes. Which is 12k runes. Which is enough to kill 120 dragons . . .
  13. This is a load. You take what, 100 spells+ per dragon? And you say you've used about 12k strikes so far. Meaning you've killed 120 dragons, and gotten 5 dragon drops and a visage? And 50 rune items? Sorry man, but I suspect you've never once killed a metal dragon. Nice story, though.
  14. What's even more pathetic is the large number of autotypers that do nothing but advertise that they are buying things, usually runes and pots, at well below market value. The fact that there are usually 3 or 4 people in world 18 Edge and 5-6 people in world 2 fally where runes are sold all saying the same thing makes me wonder how they are allowed to do that. Hell, even pmods have the power to mute people - why not silence the obvious autotypers? It's just so frustrating to me that Jagex could very easily get rid of all the autoers, but refuse to invest the time and money to do so.
  15. You can get 100k+ smithing exp an hour at the blast furnace if you have a team of people working it, and continuously smelt and smith plates, and sell them to the store there. You would have to bring your own noted coal and mith ores, and pay the people to keep the furnace running, but with unlimited cash, it would be super fast smithing exp, though it's hard to say exactly how much.
  16. Make sure you use Ahrim's down there, or you will get a lot of splashes. I would recommend 85+magic and magic dart instead of fire bolt. You will kill dragons a lot faster that way.
  17. The problem is that Jagex is way too slow to ban. I mean, you have to cut wood for a day or 2 to get to level 60. Jagex knows exactly where these macroers are going to cut wood. It's simple, really - they have to be willing to give in-game moderators more immediate powers, instead of relying on gathering evidence before banning. When you walk up to a yew tree, you can tell right away, in almost every case, which players are macroing and gold farming. All Jagex needs to do is find a player, and if they look suspicious, check the stats. All they have is 62 woodcutting? Automatic, immediate ban. I mean, they know exactly where to look - ess mines, rune shops, arrow shops, yew trees, crafting guild, and the mining guild on f2p. Start sending moderators around with the power to ban players on-site for macroing. They could clean up the game in a week - nobody is going to take the time to try and macro or gold farm if Jagex won't even allow them to get as far as mining coal or chopping yews. The only reason macroers and gold farmers still play this game is because Jagex lets them continue to exist long enough to make a decent amount of money with a given account before it gets banned. They could hire a team of people on a temporary basis to do this task as needed - adults trained and supervised by Jagex staff whose sole job is to ban autoers and macroers immediately in game. Bam, problem solved. Yes, it would seem oppressive at first, but the game would be so much better afterwards. And frankly, it's very disappointing that Jagex won't do what is necessary t clean up the game. So to answer the question, yes, they are doing something, but there is no hope for it ever being successful.
  18. I think they made drill demons and freaky forrester a lot more common. I got maybe 4-5 of both combined for the first year and a half I played rs. Now I get at least one per day, and usually more.
  19. Gauntlets only affect the burn rate of lobbies, swordies, and sharks. Not monks.
  20. Just craft some ruby rings and enchant them, or buy them from other players for around 2kea. You'll need 72 rings to smelt 10k iron ore.
  21. You could always just catch the chins yourself. Then it's free. I prefer PC because you don't have to muck about with food or prayer. The key to cannoning dagannoths in the lighthouse is to bring guthan's. That way, you can stay down there without food as long as you have the cannonballs. Make your own cannonballs, and it's basically free since you can sell your cannon and guthan's when you are finished, and all you have to pay for is the repair costs on the armor.
  22. The ring of forging melts, so you will need a whole new ring every 140 ores. Smelt in Port Phasmatys or Neitiznot if you can, or al-Kharid if you cannot.
  23. 2 very cost-effective ways to train magic are steel dragons and barrows, both using magic dart. Barrows will make you quite a bit of money off the barrows drops, and you will constantly get replacement runes for magic dart. Steel dragons drop a lot of random rune stuff that alchs for a good amount, as well as a decent amount of bloods. You will also get some level 3 clues, and if you do a lot of them, like 10k+ magic darts, you have a good chance of making back what you spent on the runes from dragon drops. And there's always the chance you'll get a visage. Barrows you could easily do at your level. You might want to wait until you get to 90 magic before you try to mage steels, and make sure to use ahrim's, or you will never hit. Barrows is slow exp because you spend a lot of time not killing stuff with magic, although you will make a significant profit off of it. Steels are iffy, and you could end up with no dragon drops for your trouble and lose money, though you can minimize the chances of coming away emptyhanded by buying a LOT of spells. And the dragons are good mage exp.
  24. Exactly. They want something to show off. Why not be satisfied running around with your ancient's staff? Why is the quest cape so important to you? And? Why should you get to decide what goals are achievable? You always have to comport your goals with the game parameters, and it's Jagex's game. THEY get to set the parameters, not you - why can't you understand that? What if I want a quest cape at 1 farming? Or at 1 prayer? That is just as valid as what you want, but as you can see, it would be ridiculous for me to be upset by the fact that Jagex won't let me accomplish those goals. And I think it's pretty stupid to complain about that. Fine, then I want a quest cape at 1 prayer. I want a quest cape with 1 construction because I don't feel like spending any money on it. YOU DON'T GET TO SET ANY GOALS YOU WANT! And looking at the game, I don't know how you reached the conclusion that it is. Basically, you're telling me that because this is YOUR goal, Jagex shouldn't create the game the way THEY want, but the way you want. In essence, you're saying that your stupid goal is more important than Jagex or the rest of the players of this game. Give me a break, man. I'm saying that because they are successful, you nitwit. They've created arguably the most popular MMORPG available today. Do you know how many thousands of game concepts fail or languish in anonymity, compared to those that are successful? I assume they know better than you because they have PROVEN they are. They aren't just some kid sitting at a keyboard mad because he lost his quest cape. They have meetings, and brainstorming sessions, and hire professional game designers and market researchers. Do YOU have all those things? I feel very comfortable in saying that Jagex has 10,000 times the credibility that you do when it comes to making determinations about what is best for the game. And frankly, you are a moron if you think they're going to let the quality slip. There is too much money to be made for them to let that happen. But your advice only amounts to whinging about not being able to get your quest cape. You haven't made any valid criticisms of the combat requirement, only made fallacious ramblings about you setting your own goals, forgetting that your goals need to comport to the game Jagex gives you to play. You're talking about a VERY small minority of players who are affected by this update. That's not going to destroy the game. I put faith in Jagex when the only complaints I see about their updates are "arguments" like the one you're making. For example, the wilderness ditch - there are a lot of valid criticisms of that update, and it is one that affects a good portion of the f2p, and virtually all of the p2p communities. But this update, it's not going to hurt the game in any forseeable way. If your goal is attention, you don't need the cape - an ancient's staff or legend's cape will serve just as well. If that's your main argument, it's a very weak one. The cape isn't particularly impressive, no more so than other visible signs like the ones I mentioned which you can use to show off your questing prowess. Trust me, a level 65 with an ancient staff sticks out. Maybe even moreso than one with a quest cape did, before Dream Mentor. And this is really what it boils down to, isn't it - you don't like that Jagex took away your method of showing off. But they didn't. Run around at level 65 with your ancient staff and legend's cape - you'll get the attention you want. I don't see why the achivement cape should matter so much. Why not? As I said, you can show off without the cape. Why is the cape so important. Just to complete all the quests? Before the quest cape, did you even care about completing anything besides the big quests that allowed you to show off, i.e. legends and desert treasure? Wow. This shows your ignorance. You're aware that you NEED, for example, 25 ranged to complete Underground Pass? 50 strength for Legend's? 33 magic for The Giant Dwarf? 50 magic for Desert Treasure? There are others, as well. So no, there were already several quests that you COULD NOT attempt to do without a certain combat level. Not only that, but many quests give experience to combat stats that would further raise your level. You HAVE NEVER been able to attempt all the quests at whatever level you want, and Jagex has never intended for it to work this way. Dream Mentor just raised the bar higher.
